I have visited El Salvador in Central America and loved the pupusas, so I was happy to discover Pupusas To Go right here in the RGV. The building, located on "I" Road (Veterans Blvd), in between Eldora Rd and Sioux Rd in Pharr is not large, but hard to miss with the bright yellow color. There is private parking in front. Once inside you find a clean, pristine dining room in the colors of the Salvadoran flag, white and blue. You can order at the counter if ordering take out, or sit at a table for dine in and the lady will take your order there. Their menu offers more than pupusas. They also have tamales, empanadas, plantains, breakfasts with eggs, and more. But I wanted to try their pupusas, and two were big enough to make a meal for me. If you are really hungry you may be able to eat three. The pupusas came hot to order (you choose the filling you want), and were delicious. They are freshly made from scratch, so it may take a few minutes, but is worth the wait. The pupusas come with a side bowl of "curtido" (slightly pickled cabbage slaw) which you put on top. They also brought out a very mild tomato salsa and some green hot salsa. I loved all of it. The prices are very reasonable. The staff was very friendly, courteous and efficient. This restaurant is family friendly. There was a TV playing a telenovela, but not too loud. Because seating is limited, I would not recommend dining in for large groups, but their take out would certainly be a unique and delicious option for large groups. Pupusas to go looks like a hole in the wall, but don't underestimate it! The Pupusas are very tasty! I had some cheese, loroco, and chicharrón Pupusas, and each was better than the last. Most Salvadorean joints make their chicharrón filling flavorless, but these were perfectly seasoned and hit the spot just right. I also had some Yucca and Chicharrón which was warm, fried and crispy. Lastly, their plantains were sweet and the crema that accompanied them was salty and nicely complemented the dish. 1st time ever trying pupusas. Came here on the recommendation of fellow Yelpers. I went in person to order to go & informed the waitress I had never tried this. She explained they are basically gorditas just larger & flatter w/no opening & minced meat instead of chopped. Apparently they don't have the combos anymore so I ordered 3 pupusas & actually ended up sharing w/3 other people as an appetizer. There's a lil wait for your food but, only cause they make 'em fresh to order (who doesn't appreciate that?). The slaw is ok but, better when you get a piece of jalapeno in it. I remember the first time my husband and I came to eat at Pupusas To Go. We were kind of second guessing ourselves because the building is nothing to write home about. We are both so glad that we decided try it. Because we had never eaten Salvadoran food, we were unfamiliar with the menu. The lady at the pick up window was very helpful and offered suggestions. She was also very patient and we never felt rushed when ordering. I ordered a cheese pupusa and my husband ordered 2 with meat, cheese and beans. The pupusas come with salsa and a pickled slaw. The food was very fresh and the flavor was savory! The price was also very reasonable at about $4 a pupusa. We will definitely be back as well as recommend this establishment to others. read more

A friend of mine and I ate lunch here. The food was delicious, the pulpusas, the cabbage relish, and the dessert we tried. I had one of the pulpusas stuffed with cheese and beans. My friend had one with cheese and some sort of flower. The cabbage relish was perfect. For dessert, we both had ripe plantains stuffed with a type of crema, raisins and topped with cinnamon. Wonderful! The was friendly, but our waitress only spoke Spanish. Fortunately, my friend was bilingual. Later, the manager arrived, and he was very nice, helpful and spoke English perfectly. Saw this place on here and had to give it a try! This place serves mainly food to go but we enjoyed our meal outdoors on the patio. They did take awhile but are made to order so it's to be expected. I ordered a pollo con queso pupusa and a revuelo with chicarron, queso and beans. They were served hot and very good! We ordered their combo A at $6.99 which isn't a bad price! While we waited the "Manager" or man in the front talked about other customers in a negative way. I got tired of his negative remarks about every customer that order or came in previously. When we got our food the Masa was uncooked. There was no flavor at all. When we were ready to pay I asked the man my total. He said "cash or credit" I then asked for my total again. Come try this place! It's awesome! Mostly to go, although there are some tables outside. This is pretty much just good Salvadorian street food. I love that the valley is finally expanding it's culinary horizons (who doesn't love Mexican but for a long time we didn't have anything else. The pupusa revuelta is awesome and the pastelito de carne is amazing. The combos are good deals, basically 2 items, slaw, chips, and a drink. Yes this place is amazing! There's two ladies that run this joint and they don't speak English but thankfully yo hablo poquito espanol. Anyhow, my go to pupusa is the chicharrones y queso. They are made fresh so be prepared to wait! At 3.25 a pop they're pretty affordable and one can fill you up. They also have meals where it's a bit cheaper but they come with drink and chips so I only ordered a la carte. Anyhow, definitely worth a visit read more

I recently stumbled upon Pupusas to Go and I come to find out it's still a new restaurant but with the quality of food I expect it'll be around for a while. Been here three times and on my last visit this past Saturday I ordered two tamales salvadoreños and three Pupusas. The tamales were big and the masa was flavorful and the chicken was nice and tender, by far the best food I've tasted in the Valley. Ohh yeah the Revuelta pupusa is the highlight all day long. You will wait a bit for them since these are not frozen and are made when ordered. The price is pricey in my opinion.. A pupusa is normally 1.29 to 1.50 at the highest,. They're priced at 2.99 each here. They make the pupusa pretty big so 2 should fill you up.. I also bought the empanadas de leche which were delicious!! This is should be a quick stop to great food, but it is not as quick as you'd like. That's due in part to the food being so delicious you can't want to eat it! It's the only place I know in town with authentic popusas. The owners are very friendly and prices are reasonable. Portions are really big! The building is definitely not anything fancy so don't expect waiters in tuxedos.
