What started as a free class ended with a commitment to stay on the journey to wellness. I have been attending the pure barre classics sessions for almost two weeks and my instructor, Gabrielle, does a good job at coaching you through the exercises. The staff is friendly, the facility practices cleanliness and I pretty much get into my class and leave to start my work day. I can write a more detailed review after a few weeks as I know most people might want to know if it's worth it-too early to tell. I tried the free class at a few different barre studios around DC and Pure Barre was my favorite, so much so that I bought a monthly membership on the spot. I was a fitness instructor for many years and I am picky about safety and form. The instructor who taught the intro class, Gabrielle, was excellent at explaining proper form and giving alignment and safety cues. I have since taken classes from several instructors and the quality of the instructors is very good overall. I love how they make hands-on adjustments during class--that is something a lot of instructors/studios seem afraid to do, but it makes a huge difference in helping achieve proper form and alignment to get the most out of the exercise (and do it safely). Some of the other barre classes I took at other studios didn't challenge me, but I have been sore from some of these classes and I definitely feel like it is a great workout. I have to take breaks during the abs a lot which is good, it means I'm being pushed! Shoutout especially to Anna R. and Gabrielle whose classes are super tough and they both give great hands-on adjustments! All of the instructors are very friendly and try to remember your name, which is also very nice! I do wonder about the carpeted floor and how well it can be cleaned--the studio overall is very clean and you have to wear socks for the classes (no bare feet), but I get a little germaphobic thinking about carpet in a fitness studio, especially since they don't use mats for a lot of the stuff on the floor. read more

I really enjoyed pure barre and have tried all of their classes! Unfortunately this location is no longer on ClassPass (I think?) so I'm not sure how soon I will be back, but would consider it in the future. The instructors were always really cheerful and helpful which was great especially when I first started going and felt totally lost. My favorite class was the most challenging one in my opinion, pure reform, which involves resistance bands and sliders for a really dynamic workout which will get you out of breath. Pure empower is also a really challenging class that packs a punch in just 45 minutes. The original class is a LOT of planking! Other notes: I like the small class size at this location. My coworker convinced me to attend a class at Pure Barre with her to help shake up my workout routine. From the way she described it, I was expecting a low intensity workout that I would breeze through. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening! The workout at Pure Barre was a real challenge for me. I struggled my way through the workout and I could barely keep up with the class. I was so surprised that such little movements could kick my tooshie in the manner that they did. Even though I struggled, I thoroughly enjoyed the class and will be back! I was in the Classic class with Chandon and she was such a gem! She saw me struggling and she would come over to my section to help with my posture and get the movements right! She was patient, kind, and her energy was amazing. I have been to fitness classes where you can literally see the irritation in the instructors face when you aren't doing things correctly. I did not experience any of that here. Major thank you to the Pure Barre team at Dupont for welcoming me to my first class and not making me feel like an outsider! This is the best barre class I've ever been to! I've done many barre classes through various studios and gyms and have always loved barre but this class and studio are soooooo fun and great exercise!! Real men like to go to the bar... wait scratch that, it is past 12 midnight, and this spell check is not working... real men like to barre... at Pure Barre! I have taken advantage of the new members monthly special at Pure Barre, done some extra classes outside of that, and I have to say that Pure Barre gave me an outstanding workout for my core, thighs, and butt. The movements are small, but you will be amazed at how toned it will get you in a month's time. My reason for giving them a 3 out of 5. As a guy, I will have to say that it is a bit daunting being in a room with women, and to make them feel more welcomed as I try to stare at the nearest light fixture, while they work on their tucking, but as someone who is not coordinated, I just have to look around the room to make sure I am getting the movement down because if you use too much force and don't contract the appropriate muscles, you will not get the intended workout. I needed more one-on-one instruction, but the instructor is nice, and the studio is professional. Kudos to Pure Barre for having a male instructor. They definitely try their best to be more inclusive when it comes to bring in a male client base. In regards to the type of classes you can take, the Pure Barre Classic seems to be the most popular, which uses the elastic bands and rubber ball for muscle contraction. I recommend also Pure Empower which is structured more like your typical aerobics class. Overall, Barre is a workout often overlooked and would recommend anyone to try it. It's a bit pricy as it is one of the gym that tries to appeal to higher-end clientele. If you are trying it for the first time, I would recommend a class with Jessica Bracy, she is very professional and you can tell she has the most experience in the world of barre when it comes to this studio. Personally not for me.. cute studio but I felt as if I was in an 80s aerobics class. Took ballet classes in college (for fun- by no means an expert!) but that being said, I think taking an actual ballet class at joy of motion would target more of those muscles and positive energy /"dance vibes" ... if that makes sense! Have only been to this studio but found them strangely standoffish. I also don't understand their dress code... no midriffs? Really? Are we in middle school? It's 2019 and athleisure is thriving. Stared the intro month, on Nov 14th. So far really great! The hospitality is amazing! The ladies are always smiling, energetic and kind when working with you. I have never done Pure Barre so appreciate the extra attention I get on my form. Can't wait to take the Pure Foundations class to learn better the techniques. It has been 2 weeks and I have done 4 classes a week. I must say I feel my body changing. But visibly, my arms and shoulders are already taking on a more toned form. Okay so if Maddie (her name is Madalaina on the app I believe) the instructor ever wanted to start her own cult, I would gladly be the first member of it. Like when she calls me 'Rach' I'm like FINE I'LL GO AN INCH LOWER IN CHAIR JUST BECAUSE I LIKE YOU AND YOUR SPECIAL NICKNAME FOR ME WARMS MY COLD DEAD HEART. I started out at the Cap Hill location and loved that you can go to all 3 studios in the district with your membership. The noon classes are amazing because they are usually pretty small which means lots of feedback and a better workout because there is nowhere to hide. I unfortunately moved out of the district with some time left on my unlimited plan, but it's worth the drive in and dealing with DC parking enforcement. Book the class, don't be intimidated- this is one of the few barre/ exercise studios that embraces and plans for all different types of bodies. Plan to add a couple extra minutes if you are parking- it can get tricky especially on street sweep days. It can get pretty warm in there too, so plan to layer and get a spot by the fan. read more

Having been to another Barre studio (not Pure Barre) in another city, I can attest to the fact that this is the McDonalds of barre instruction, meaning, just a script they follow with no attention to the students or even a full body workout. I did their into month for new customers, it was around $136 which was not a bad deal seeing as how I went quite a bit. I got stronger, more toned and my "pure barre ledge" was on fire during every class. Pure Barre Dupont seems like it's an inclusive community- they offered events and book club at the end of each class. I liked how the instructors throughout class encouraged everyone (by name) and were friendly the entire time. I wish they were a little bit bigger, it tended to get overcrowded at times. Compared to NYC, DC is a bit of a fitness wasteland. Yoga-wise there's a great community and Bar Method is pretty solid but at times hard to book the most popular teachers, so when PB opened up I eagerly grabbed a 5-class pack. After all, I'd tried the PB in Charlotte, NC and it delivered a solid workout... The workout itself is fine, though they have you do some questionable things (certain ab exercises I just can't feel a thing). My problem is with the instructors. 5 different classes with 5 different instructors and I am completely underwhelmed. The best of the lot was sub-par compared to a brand-new BM instructor and the worst of the lot made me want to grab the tiny red ball and bash my brains in. Very little instruction is given, the teachers don't seem to know anything about anatomy, have very little enthusiasm for teaching and don't bother to ask if anyone has any injuries. They breeze in, start up the music and mumble a couple words and count (sometimes they even stuff up the counting bit). I feel like PB grabbed a random student from another bar class, gave them an abbreviated script and started charging people... 1 star because the workout moves quickly and you can break a sweat if you put your mind to it, another star given cause the front desk girl is always friendly and cheerful. *Fitness gods, please bring Physique or SLT to DC.... read more

I love Pure Barre and I had a really great time at PB DC. First my thoughts on PB and their techniques. When you come in for your first class, you will surely get your ass kicked and you will question, "Is this actually doing anything to my body? Really?! you want me to use 2 lb weights when I can lift at least 30 lbs at the gym?" Trust me, the PB technique works and you will feel and see differences and changes in your body after 10 classes. Not only do you improve your flexibility but you will also get stronger and toned. You will work your core/abs, whole leg, arms, butt...basically everything! You will be tested, you will shake and I promise you it will be worth it. It's recommended that you only do PB once a day and shortly after you stick with it you will want to do more and more. It becomes addicting but in a good way. Unlike other PB studios, DC PB has carpet and it works as long as they vacuum. The music always changes. Some classes will be packed to the brim and others will have 3 or 4 people max. Cancellations require a 4 hour advance notice or you will be billed $10 (way better than the $20 they charged!!). If you like PB, I would definitely recommend opting for the new member package which is 1 month unlimited for $125. Make sure you really use it, I came in 4 times a week! Not only can I run better and faster, I am way less stiff, my legs look awesome, and am more energized in my daily activities. In regards to the instructors, if you are new I would highly recommend Annie because she pays close detail to your positions and is eager to help you fix your mistakes. If you want an intense work out, Shaye is best. I've taken classes with almost all the instructors but Annie and Shaye are truly the best and you can really feel the workout even seconds after you leave the studio. Calla, who works the front desk, is super sweet and helpful (the others are just blah)! They also provide free water that you can grab from the fridge, sell clothing, and also sell gorgeous Lily and Laura bracelets ($12 each or $30 for 3) that are fair trade and support women in Nepal. If you are new to PB, welcome. Don't be intimidated and stick with it. Come to class 15 minutes early so that you meet the instructor and learn the basics. You need to wear pants and personally, I like to wear long sleeve tops as well because not only do you sweat more but because your muscles are insulated, you will work them more. A lot of women/men are intimidated because you will walk into a studio surrounded by mirrors and women dressed from head to toe in lulu lemon. It really doesn't matter what brand you're wearing so come with an open mind and ready to lift, tone, burn. PLEASE wear socks!! There are times when newbies come in and they are not wearing socks and not only is it unsanitary and disgusting, but you also won't be able to get the support you need. I have friends that have RAVED about Pure Barre/Barre3/The Barre Method, so I decided to give Pure Barre a shot. Pros: I instantly felt welcome by the staff. Calla (front desk) immediately walked me through the procedures and introduced me to the instructor (Krista). The instructor was wonderful. Krista took her time to explain the terminology. She was adamant about proper form, which made the class more about learning than about competition. The workout was about control. I describe it as a Pilates/Yoga/Ballet infusion. It's not about how fast or hard you do the movements, but how well you do them. I did get the "competition" vibe as I have had from other types of workouts/classes. It also takes the view of dance: if you are not in control of your core, your not in control of anything. The workout space and the studio is bright and clean. The Cons: It is expensive. My dance studio charges $17/class and my yoga studio charges $20/class (both 90 minute classes). This class is $25/class for 55 minutes Lack of diversity. It seem like every one in my class was a sorority girl from GWU, with that type of attitude/stereotype. No showers in the studio. Overall verdict, this exercise will definitely work as a fill in for dance, but I rather be in the studio learning choreography. Try it and make conclusions from there. read more

I have to give Pure Barre 1 star purely for lack of customer service. I purchased the one month introductory unlimited package and was really excited to use it. My first class was difficult but I stuck through it and the instructor was helpful. When the class was over I go to collect my (new) jacket, and as I put the jacket on it feels quite snug. Hmm, didn't think it was possible to GAIN weight from an exercise class! I take off the jacket to inspect, and realize it is not in fact my jacket. It is the same jacket, but a size smaller and at least 2 years older. My jacket was a week old and not an insignificant amount of money. I speak to the woman at the front desk who says she will leave a note and speak to the manager. So, I leave my first class quite angry, and upset since I was hoping to feel euphoric after my class, not bummed out. I go home, write an email to the manager as a back-up, and she responds telling me she will do everything she can to find the jacket. I come back for my second class, again ask the receptionist who doesn't even know what I am talking about, and still no jacket. Later that week I come down with a horrible respiratory illness and I am subsequently out of commission for the next 3 weeks. Aka I don't make it to another barre class. I also never hear from them again. Not about my jacket. Not about the fact that I had signed up for 12 other classes that I ended up cancelling. Nothing. Clearly they didn't care about me in the slightest. Recap: I paid $125 for the classes that I ended up using twice. I paid $150 for a jacket that was stolen after having been worn 3 times. I paid another $150 to replace said jacket. NOT HAPPY PURE BARRE. *Update: Changed rating to 3 stars as a manager contacted me (2 and a half months later!!) and offered me another month of Pure Barre to make up for the fact that I wasn't able to take advantage of my full month. I appreciate the sentiment, but likely still won't go back. Also, still never heard about my jacket which is just rediculous. Again, the class itself is great, but it just isn't worth the headache. Had a great time at my first class here. The music was great, the studio was clean, well-lit... really great overall. My one qualm is that the instructor didn't seem to have any time to explain the "tuck" method or any other routine. She's incredible at learning names and making you feel like you're "a regular" even if this is literally your first class ever. My first barre class was at pure barre, and I fully understand the hype. I've been to Pure Barre Dupont 5 times now, and genuinely love going--even when I'm all TUCKered out. ...great okay sorry enough Pure Barre puns. I've tried Barre 3; MINTbarre; flyBarre; and PureBarre at Cathedral Commons. I really like Pure Barre Dupont. The baseline of this class is a good workout but the excellent workout definitely comes from pushing yourself within the pulses and trying to either sit deeper into a posture/tuck or raise higher on your toes. They switch up the class structure/the workout every few weeks, so if you go once, and come back within the same cycle you'll feel yourself focusing more on getting into the posture, rather than worrying about what you're "supposed to be doing" like I've found with other studios. read more

Pure Barre is a chain - which to me is great because I normally know what to expect. Pretty pricey for a work out place, but on par with any other barre studios. They offer a variety of class times which is great for my working schedule! Each class is different, depends on the instructor. But it is structured basically the same way. Sometimes pure Barre is a little too slow for me - but all in all I love it! This studio is small. No shower. One restroom and a few changing rooms! Front desk service is also always very friendly. Such a fun workout. The instructor Annie was great and the girl at the front desk (Calla?) was so nice and welcoming. I took my first class and it was HARD. It flew by though which is always a testament to a good class. Newbies should definitely arrive 10 minutes early and bring water. You can wear socks or buy their special ones at the front desk. I bought a pair because they were so cute. The only thing that takes away a star is the cost. The classes are expensive but in the end no more so than soulcycle, solidcore, or any of the other boutique gyms. I'd definitely recommend Pure Barre to anyone who was looking for a class to tone and strengthen. Go with girlfriends on Wednesday and get wine after class! read more

Jade is a fantastic instructor! I was amazed at how she can remember students names and provided me encouragement and support throughout the class, even though I was constantly the weakest link. I exercise regularly but this workout is super hard and I thought about quitting after the first class. The morning after my first class my abs were sore. For someone who never tones her abs, after one month of barre I lost 1 inch off my waist. The classes vary but I would also take different teachers to get a different spin as well. All of the staff here are friendly. Their website drives me crazy because it takes multiple clicks to figure out how to get in to register for a class. Their reminder emails about your upcoming class which underline the no show charge if you don't cancel within 4 hours does not include a convenient link to do so. I wish their site told you which classes are full before you try to register for it. This would come in hand should I decide to change classes and can see before I cancel a class if I can't book a replacement class. I would prefer if my class reminders came the morning of, not the day before. See I take evening classes so if Monday morning I get an email reminding me about class at 5pm I assume it's tonight, not tomorrow. Then I have to look up what time tonight's class is. I think the 4 hour cancellation window is too big because I can be called to stay late at work at the last minute. The Bar Method only has a one hour cancellation window. My yoga studio sends me reminder emails the morning of my evening class, in fact the email says "your class scheduled Today". They have a water cooler but no cups. I'm already carrying my purse, gym bag, and don't want to add the weight of my heavy water bottle as well. Is it a big deal to have free paper cups? I wish there were more hooks in the changing rooms as I need one for my jacket (which I can't put away until I enter the studio) and one for my purse and gym bag. So I'm balancing 3 items on one hook, I'd rather not put it on the floor. The bathroom also doesn't have a hook on the back of the door. The toilet paper roll dispenser at this location drives me crazy as it's so hard to get a continuous roll of paper out. I wish they'd use the same system as their Capitol Hill location. The students here are oddly enough primarily made up of married women in their 20s. I like wine down wednesdays! read more

I love Pure Barre Dupont Circle! The staff and instructors are great. During my first visit, my instructor, Andrea took me through all the motions. It is important to note that it takes about 10 classes for you to really get the hang of things, but whether it is your 1st class or your 101st class, the instructors will provide hands-on corrections to ensure proper form and will offer modifications if you are nursing an injury. The exercises themselves are low impact (a great cross training workout for runners! Hello, knees!!) but intense. Though the format of the classes are all the same (warmup, arms, thighs, seat, abs), the movements vary from class to class, ensuring that your muscles are always challenged! The music is sometimes hit or miss but of course that depends on your personal preferences. That being said, I always end up downloading at least one song from class. I would definitely recommend Pure Barre to anybody looking to lift, tone, burn, and have fun!! read more

Pure Barre Dupont is my addiction. I started taking classes here a year and a half ago, when I decided to transition to a freelance career. I was looking for a way to start my day, get me out of bed, and get me motivated. Check, check, and check. I've never been a "fitness" person. Hated gym class, don't go running, don't do yoga. My first few classes were beyond difficult. I was so sore the next day. But the last thing I'd tried, aerial hoop, was freakin' impossible for me. I could sort of see myself getting better at barre. And that is (eventually) what happened. It helped that the instructors and folks at the desk were all so welcoming and so good at explaining the moves. My experience has always been that the instructors come over to you pretty discreetly to correct your form. The workout itself is adaptable - it never gets "easy" because you can always modify things for a bigger challenge. On the other hand, you can also modify exercises to avoid certain trouble spots. I injured my shoulder a while ago and I got tips to avoid making things worse. As a freelancer, I know after I've gone to Pure Barre that I've accomplished something for the day. Pure Barre isn't cheap, but for me, that feeling is priceless. I'd definitely recommend this studio - make sure you commit to a few classes to get a feel for the workout. I've been doing pure barre off and on for the past year or so both at the DuPont location and the newer Cathedral Commons location. The pluses: It's a really effective workout! It's a good compliment for runners (my reason for doing it)! They offer a lot of classes and the wait list really works for full classes. The minuses: Some instructors are more friendly and helpful than others. Form is really important in barre and some instructors don't offer corrections during class. While some instructors will introduce themselves to students before class or give overviews of the moves to new students, others seem to limit their interactions to those they already know. The music...sometimes is not motivating. It's often heavy on the techno or softer music that isn't super exercisy. It would be nice to switch it up and maybe add some more current music or music with a beat. Oh and the cost. I don't do it regularly because of the cost but I initially took advantage of the new client special (definitely recommend!) and subsequently have bought other promos that have made the classes a bit more reasonable. read more

You will definitely get a good workout at this place, I just wouldn't recommend it for beginners or anyone starting a new workout regimen. I've done barre classes before (not at pure barre) but it had been a few months, so I let the instructor know ahead of time that I was a beginner. She introduced me to the class as a first timer, which I think was supposed to be welcoming but was really just kind of embarrassing. As anyone who has done barre knows, the first few classes are killer and your muscles will shake a lot. We didn't do any stretches ahead of time and at one point I started to feel like I was pulling a hamstring, so I knelt down and tried to stretch it out. The instructor called attention to me and said "it's your hour, and up to you how much work you put in!" I get that some people respond well to that and go to classes because they want someone yelling those sorts of encouragements, it's just not for me and again I felt a little embarrassed. Also the music was so loud that you could barely hear what she was saying, which stinks because form is really important for this kind of class, and I know mine wasn't exactly perfect. I felt silly and didn't feel like I was able to ask questions because I didn't want to slow down the class. The music was also pretty terrible, very generic techno beats put behind old, already-bad pop songs, so that didn't help. I'm giving it a few stars because I was really sore the next day and it was a great workout. Just not really my style. read more

I've always wanted to try a Pure Barre class, so when the opportunity arose last week, I took it. As someone who has taken A LOT of barre classes, I was eager to check a Pure Barre class off my list, especially to compare it to those I've taken at other DC studios like the Bar Method, Barre3, the Dailey Method, VIDA, etc. What I liked: I really liked the attitude of the staff working there. Since it was my first time the instructor took me into the studio and explained the "Pure Barre lingo" to me. I thought this was a nice touch, especially for those who are new to the workout. I also liked that this studio seemed to have a sense of community. They have a monthly book club which is an ADORABLE idea, as well as comment cards in the bathroom. Love both of these elements as they are two things that I haven't found in other DC barre studios. What I didn't like: Okay... not to sound like a total negative Nancy, but I actually just really didn't enjoy the class. It had absolutely nothing to do with the teacher, but more so the pace of the class, the annoying AF straps, the teeny-tiny balls and some of the exercises. While I appreciated that the class felt like more of a workout than other barre classes, the lack of instruction on proper technique baffled me. Although I got a lot of attention from the instructor, it seemed like half of the studio was doing one thing, while the other half was doing another... pure chaos. All in all, I don't think I'll be back. Not because I hated the teacher or the studio (both were great!) more so because Pure Barre isn't for me. read more

I was really nervous, because it was my first barre class ever. But they are so friendly -- they learn your name right away, and if you are new the instructor will talk to you ahead of time to show you the ropes. The receptionist was so friendly and so was my instructor, Annie. Even though there are a lot of people in the class, it doesn't feel too crowded and the instructor gives everybody a lot of personal attention. They seriously know everybody's name, it's awesome! I first visited Pure Barre DC a few months ago, and after just a few classes I could see and feel my muscles changing. It has been difficult to find a workout that I can stick with since I broke my ankle badly a few years ago, but Pure Barre hasn't caused me any issues (and I go almost every day). The teachers are all so knowledgeable and are able to give each person attention to ensure proper form, which always amazes me in some of the larger classes. Additionally, everyone who works there is so enthusiastic and friendly that I feel like I'm going to hang out with my friends every time I arrive at the studio. read more

The class is 55 minutes long (for the standard class) and works your arms, thighs, seat, and abs. You leave feeling like you got a killer workout without killing yourself doing cardio. I had a great experience at Pure Barre DC! A Pure Barre DVD my 3L year in an attempt to quickly tone up for my wedding was my first introduction to the barre, so it was really neat to take a class at the actual studio that started it all. The studio is located in Dupont Circle a few blocks away from the Metro. I took a class after work with Danielle. The young lady at the front desk wasn't very attentive, especially being it was my first time at the studio. She was a little too busy chatting with some regulars about sorority functions coming up, instead of checking people in or telling me what equipment I needed. I get the community feel, but you still need to do your job. Once I changed, she went on and on about how I needed to wear pants, but if she would've actually paid attention and looked up, she would've seen I was in fact wearing pants... Moving on, Danielle is fan-tastic. She asked me had I ever taken a barre class before. Yes, a few. Okay 20+. She asked if I knew what "tuck" means in the sense of barre class. Good question to ask someone. Yep, I'm aware. She made a point to introduce herself to everyone, went over what to expect, and then we began. I loved this class. There were people of all sizes, ages, and abilities. Everything seemed to flow much more naturally than classes I've taken at other studios. The plank series wasn't as crazy intense as I'm used to at my local studio, but I enjoyed the abs sequence at PB much better. It was way less tweaky on my low back, which I can appreciate. The moves were challenging, yet fun (considering how fun one can consider the intense shaking!) Danielle was great at pacing, giving corrections, and had an awesome playlist to get us through it. The stretch sequence was relaxing as well. Danielle gets 5 stars! The studio is beautiful. This was my first time taking a barre class in a carpeted studio, and while I thought I would be grossed out, I wasn't. It provided much more cushion for my joints- geez I sound old, but I promise I'm still in my mid-twenties! I loved the lighting, the neutral color scheme, and how clean everything was. Also, the PB squishy mats are the most comfortable mats I've used in a barre class so far. There are two changing rooms, and a bathroom. No showers. The schedule boasts classes all dang day long, so no excuses ladies and gentleman! When I was getting ready to leave the owner took the time to ask how I liked it, and if I had any questions. Because that front desk girl was obviously too preoccupied talking to her friends to be bothered. Sadly, that's why I can't give the full 5 stars. When I'm paying $210 for 10 classes (yes, it's pricey to get fit in DC!), I expect a bit more front desk service. Now the owner has some common sense, because she realizes she does have a business to run. So, I appreciate her taking the time to check in with me! I've been attending classes at this location for about 3 weeks now. I signed up for the unlimited new customer special and it was so worth it---I've been going every day and I love it. Here's a break down: Instructors: I've been able to try a class with basically all the instructors and they're all fantastic. Although I only see some of them once or twice a week, they each take the time to say hello or ask me my name if they don't remember. And more importantly--they're all great at improving form. I'm pretty terrible at some of the movements but they're not only encouraging but also extremely helpful. Every class they adjust something and I'm so grateful, I get a much better workout. They also have great energy, sometimes I want to give up (this is hard stuff!) but they keep the energy and pace fast moving. The workout: I already see improvements in my shape--I lost about 50 pounds over the past year and I wanted to start toning and I knew I needed something to change it up. This class is perfect, clothes already fit better and I feel stronger. It's great. Variety: at first I was worried it would be the same workout over and over again, its not--each instructor has their own workout and it changes enough that I never get bored. Advice: I know you see this all the time, but the stick socks are 100% necessary. Also, you're gonna sweat (A LOT) in your first few classes, don't be embarrassed, embrace it. Don't be scared away by the idea that "everyone" must be good at it, honestly, no one even notices the other people around, we're all struggling to get through the class we don't even have time to look at each other. Plus, who cares! You're gonna look great when you're done! Overall: I've really enjoyed my experience at the Dupont location. Everyone is so friendly (and genuinely so) and I've gotten a great workout. Yes, its expensive, but its 55-60 minutes of a hardcore workout, and in my opinion, 100% worth the price. read more

3.5/5 Most of the instructors are helpful and friendly but there is one (who I will not name) that was quite rude and impatient with me even though I was a beginner. She told me that she didn't want me to waste my money. That really turned me off from returning to any classes here. The customer service is pretty good--I received an email asking if there was anything they could do to resolve my issue but I'm just not comfortable with paying to be patronized. Overall, it's a nice place to get a challenging workout but it really does depend on the individual instructor. read more

I was introduced to the Pure Barre through Summer Fitness in the Park events. They had such friendly staff, the women there were from the Friendship Heights studio, that I had to try it out. I took advantage of their free intro week at the Dupont studio and really enjoyed it. It's a close knit family where the instructors know your name. As a new member I had the the support of staff and attention whenever I had trouble executing a move. The Staff are super helpful and friendly. My favorite class is Empower. It's the best. I only wish that classes were more affordable. read more

I was going to leave a much worse review after my first visit to Pure Barre (where the customer service I received was really disappointing), but the addictiveness of the workouts has brought me back up to three stars. Unfortunately, now that my one month new client special is up, I won't be renewing for these reasons... -Incredibly repetitive choreography. I'm used to other barre studios where the arm and ab routines change daily; at Pure Barre, they seem to remain the same for weeks on end. It takes some of the fun out of class when I can anticipate exactly what the next move will be. -The barres are all the same height, and don't accommodate taller people. I can't actually put my head against the wall during flat back exercises. -Definitely not enough correction/explanation from instructors. If I hadn't been familiar with barre moves already, I would have been completely lost when I started here. -I would have signed up for more classes, but when the GIlt City deal for three months of unlimited classes came out, I was informed it was absolutely for new clients only. On to try Bar Method or back to Lava Barre it is. read more

I've found that specialized barre and yoga studios are sometimes a bit intimidating and snooty, but the staff at Pure Barre were so kind that when I first stepped into the door I immediately felt welcome and excited to work out! The instructor really makes the class, and Jade is a fantastic instructor. She made an effort to know each student's name, and even though there were over twenty of us- and I have a weird name- she remembered me and provided encouragement and support throughout the class, which made me feel extra inspired. Barre is a really tough workout and Pure Barre's method works every muscle efficiently and rigorously. I will definitely be back to improve my skills! read more

I got a classpass membership late last month and began coming to Pure Barre Dupont shortly after. Since then, I've been hooked. I cancelled classpass so that this coming month I can open a membership exclusively at pure barre instead. So far I've had class with three different instructors and have loved each experience. Everyone there makes me feel welcome, and I always leave feeling like I worked really hard. The only con is the price-- it's a bit much, but they have a new-member intro month and other promotions that help make it a little easier. Prior to starting, I was worried that I'd feel judged, or that I wouldn't feel welcomed, but I have not experienced that AT ALL here. Plus I just learned they have a book club, which makes my nerdy self very happy! I would definitely check this place out if you are looking for a fun, challenging workout. read more
