I'm a new patient looking for a primary dentist and was hoping to schedule an appointment. However, I wasn't sure if my dental insurance was accepted, so I asked the receptionist if they could help look it up for me. Unfortunately, I was told to figure it out myself through my health insurance provider, and they refused to assist me further. This was very surprising and disappointing, as I've never experienced a dental office turning me away simply because I didn't know my insurance details offhand. In my experience, staff are usually willing to help clarify coverage so that patients can receive care. This office came highly recommended, so I was really hoping for a better first impression. I had a horrible experience at Redlands dentistry, so I came here off of a recommendation from a colleague. It's been 3 years, and I can't say enough about how great Dr. Vines and his staff are. I've had a couple of fillings replaced and done here, and Dr. Vines is always gently and makes sure he checks in on how Ii'm doing every step of the way. It's hard to find a good dentist, especially when you have had bad experiences, but I have no qualms about going here for anything dental related. The lobby is nice, with refrigerated water and comfy leather chairs. The staff are friendly and helpful, and appointment times are kept within 5 minutes of the scheduled time. Even after the appointment, the payment person who helped me was clear about the charges, insurance, everything. The rooms are clean, each with its own TV and comfortable dental chair. Our family started seeing Dr Vines back when he was across from Smiley in the old house. He was the closest dentist on our insurance and we lived in Yucca Valley. Since we are a family of six, we visited Dr vines office quite regularly, and began to look forward to sightseeing around town as well. When it turned out we needed to relocate, we knew right where we wanted to move to. That was about 16 years ago, so I guess we have been his patients for 20 years, give or take. I just returned home from my zillionth dentist visit. I'm getting older now. I having more dental problems. I usually see Dr Kwong the past few years and this visit was just as prefect as all the other visits I ever had to Dr Vines office. If I could give zero stars I would! The staff here like many people have said before are very rude and inconsiderate when it comes to issues that they are responsible for. I was wrongfully informed that my next eligible cleaning would be on a certain date, only to late find out that the front desk was wrong, and I was charged, despite this being their mistake. In addition, I was charged for a service that I did not ask for, but instead something that they had forced on me, even though the dentist barely glanced at my teeth, claiming they had thought I needed periodontal work when I have never been told that before, and I take very good care of my gums and teeth. My teeth are in very good condition and I make sure that I go through all the routine cleanings that I need. I see that other people have had the exact same problem of being charged for services that they did not ask for or have experienced horrible customer service like I have. Look elsewhere for a dentist!!! Please take my advice and avoid this place. It seems very nice in the beginning, but they are deceitful and rude people. read more

This was our third visit for orthodontics treatment and so far everything is great! The dentist, Dr Hawkins, we knew was great but the staff (front office and hygienist are awesome too). Everyone is friendly, and explains what they are doing to my daughter as well as myself. Dr Hawkins always has a big friendly smile! He spends time with my daughter talking to her. Service is great. The building is OLD but nice. I really like how the ortho office is decorated- surf / beach feel...very relaxing. The insurance portion has no been any issues. I love the back office and the staff, but just had a really negative experience with the front office. My daughter who has been suffering for two days just called the office to say she would be ten minutes late for a 1:40 appointment. She is a nurse and was having a hard time leaving the hospital. I've had work done by both Dr. Vines and Dr. Kwong and I find them both to be very professional. I am someone who is terrified of any dental work and I put it off as the last thing to do. I have read some of the other one star reviews and I am surprised to see that they have experienced similar problems as I have, meaning this must be a recurring issue that they have. I was also the incorrect next time that I would be eligible for a cleaning to be covered by my insurance, and only later did I find out that the lady at the front desk had made a mistake. However rather than taking responsibility for the mistake, they basically told me, too bad, this is your responsibility and that they had done nothing wrong. I was charged for the cleaning meaning that I would have to pay out of pocket. What do they think I pay for insurance for? I explicitly asked to know when the next date that I could schedule a cleaning for that would be COVERED by my insurance. The manager Carla is very rude and unhelpful as well as she also said that it wasn't their problem and that they act "in the best interests of their patients" but honestly, I feel that they are in it for the money. This was my first visit to this dental office. My expectations were surpassed! I was seen by Dr. Erin Stephens. She was great! What a professional! I was treated with kindness, and caring. The best part was the cancer screening exam which felt more like a comfy neck massage. I don't have dental insurance so I pay out of pocket. I went to this dentist 6 months ago and had xrays and a cleaning. I went today for a six month cleaning, which is usually about $100. When I paid, it was $175. The receptionist said it's an extra $75 because the dentist checked my mouth (for literally 30 seconds). They didn't tell me about this extra charge. As a cash patient, they should let you know beforehand what the fees are, especially when I didn't have to have the dentist look at me for a cleaning. When I spoke with the office manager, she basically said It was my responsibility to stop them before the dentist opened my mouth. That it's not their policy to explain charges and I'm out of luck. She then explained that I'll also be charged for the dentist fee next visit as well because it will be one year. I asked if she could credit the $75 for this time and she said no. I told her I wouldn't be back. She didn't care. I guess they don't care about customer service or customer retention. You just lost a potential lifelong customer and got a bad review. My daughter and I had a really bad experience here. I rarely write reviews, but my daughter had an appointment at this dentist office last week and we were greeted by a very polite blonde young lady, "Tanya". She was very kind, as my daughter explained that she is fearful of dentists. She took the time to reassure my daughter and eased her fears. There's a dark haired woman that works there, Carmen? Karla? This dark haired woman was so abrupt with us. The blonde gal was working quickly and with such a genuine and warm smile from the moment we walked in until we were at the front desk and discussing what the dentist had recommended and discussing my daughter's potential next visit. The dark haired woman sat beside the nice, helpful blonde lady as she was helping us to understand what the next visit would entail and she (Karla/Carmen) barely looked up at us... she was too busy belittling, speaking down her. Maybe she was training? If she WAS training, she was speaking in such a demeaning manner with the blonde, so much so, that it made us feel uncomfortable. She embarrassed this lady and she clearly knew that she was embarrassing her. It was clear that this carmen/Karla woman was just trying to rush us out while Tanya was taking the much appreciated time to make sure that my daughter (and I) felt comfortable and informed. It made my stomach uneasy to see someone so kind, helpful and informative be treated so badly. We observed her treat other patients like cattle...she was very abrasive and quick to shove papers in front of other patients, basically, "here, sign this", here's your next appointment and not even a smile. We did see her very preoccupied standing near the desk on her cell phone texting then discussing her personal business out loud in front of us and other patients with other employees. The dentist we saw was very nice and thorough, we liked him alot, but we definitely won't be returning with the way that that dark hair woman treated us and treated the sweet gal that made us feel so welcome. The office is nice, clean and the dentist is very good, but I hope that the owner and management at this office realize how downright mean that woman is. She's bad for business. It is a busy office, but she should spend more time being friendly to the patients and their families. I have seen other reviews on here about the same thing, that she makes patients feel like all that is important is collecting their money. She's so abrupt. I run my own business and if one of my employees behaved like her, she'd be gone. Who stands around in front of patients on their cell phones then rambles on to coworkers about their personal business?! As much as we like the dentist and the lovely "ASSET" Tanya, we won't be returning to this office. Go in, sit back and observe how uncaring and rude she comes across. We called the office last week and told Tanya why we won't be returning... she tried to get us to come back in. We appreciate it, but the level of unprofessionalism on that woman's part is UNACCEPTABLE and we will be calling and/or going in and speaking with the office manager and the dentist why we won't be returning to this office. Our neighbor who referred us here recently stopped going to this office as well due to the same reasons. The new dentist uncovered some really shoddy work performed by Dr. Vines. It was so bad, the new dentist even wondered if Dr. Vines was intentionally allowing the problems to go from bad to worse. I recently ended a long journey of dental work with Pure Gold and I have to say that my experience with BRIAN W. KWONG, D.D.S. and the amazing staff made it enjoyable! The fact that I can say enjoyable may come to you as a surprise considering I had severe resorption and had to have 3 of my front teeth taken out and implants placed! I was so nervous about the whole procedure but Pure Gold pulled in all the doctors to assess my situation and tackle my case together, which made me feel amazing and really well taken care of. Dr Kwong was so sweet and friendly and always positive and patient with me and the best thing was the day I had my extractions, which was very painful, he called me personally on my cell phone to check on me that evening! The Girls at the office became my besties (9 months of working together) they were my cheerleaders and so wonderful and made the experience that much better! I can't say enough about the professionalism, the amazing chair-side manner, the laughter we had, the moral, emotional support and most importantly the results! This used to be a great place but in the last few years Dr Vines does less and had Dr Kwong to all the work, Lucky me needed upper dentures. Dr Kwong put them in and it has been nothing but a painful night mare. After the first set was sent to the lab for final alignment and returned they didn't fit and was told they were the same ones. I know my mouth, they were so reshaped I could'nt even close my mouth. I was sent out to try to adjust for a few days. When I got in the car and looked at them I marched right back in and demanded new ones. I had to threaten to call the Operating Eng union who pays them and they agreed they were wrongly made and made me new ones. The new ones are no better and I had to go constantly back and forther to there office for so called adjustments, which by the way they charge the union for every visit. I told Dr Kwong they didn't fit right I have constant blisters in my mouth and his last remarks to me were you picked them. I have been going through this for a year and they had the nerve to charge me my co-pay for the year. I was told to come in again and I said so you can charge the insurance again and was told all visits are included when adjusting the dentures. So I went in and that's why they are charging me a new year co-pay so they can charge some more. There work quality has gotten poor and their atutitude is no better. read more
