I have been regularly going to pure and simple for almost a decade. Throughout this time, I keep seeing Caitlyn as my aesthetician of choice because by my estimations she is the best of the best. I tried a few other facials, at different places or within the same pure and simple and Caitlyn is just on a league of her own. She is meticulous and gentle, both in the way she delivers the treatment and the way she interacts with me. Her face massage is second to none, as a matter of fact most aestheticians don't even bother to give a face massage. That's a crime because face massage has so many benefits to your skin. Caitlyn is also a master of extractions, which most aestheticians dislike but according to Caitlyn it's one of her favourite things to do. She uses her hands with some tissues to do the extractions which in my experience is the best way to get extractions done as opposed to the metal tool thing that other aestheticians use. That metal tool always causes me irritations, in contrast I have never felt irritated by Caitlyn's hands. In fact she's so gentle I manage to sleep through the whole extraction phase of the facial most times. As for the spa, it's clean and well managed; so long as Caitlyn works there I will keep coming back. read more

Got myself a deep cleanse facial with a blue LED add-on which left my skin glowing after leaving the store. I revisited Pure + Simple recently and I was pleasantly surprised by my overall experience and the high standard of service here. The aesthetician proved to be knowledgeable and my skin looked glowing (and stayed glowing) for days afterward. I'm already happy with the products I use currently, so I can't comment on longterm use of specific products sold here, but I didn't have a bad reaction to anything they used during the facial, which happens at some spas. I highly recommend the Urban Renewal Facial, which includes a relaxing hand and foot massage. It's quite a treat! read more

This is my second time coming to Pure+Simple Yonge st location & I couldn't of had a better experience! I opted for the pure+simple facial with 2 add ons. Shabnam took care of me the whole time through! She is so sweet and always made sure I was comfortable and advised me of what she was doing or putting on my face. Pure and Simple doesn't feel like a store, nor does it feel like a spa. It's a clash of both worlds and works well together. This place is holistic inspired and only uses natural and organic skincare products during facials. They also sell these products in their store which carries a lot of great skincare and makeup products; the spa area is linked to the back of this place. So far, I've received two treatments from here- the clear complexion facial and lip treatment. The store is clean, has products for all skin types, tea, cosmetics and is well organized. The spa area in the back has a really clean and relaxing look. The rooms are painted in dark purple; the lights are dimmed and soothing soft music is playing. The staff working at the front desk is super kind and efficient. They offer you tea or water before any treatment. Also, the aestheticians here are friendly, knowledgeable and you can tell they're very experienced. The Clear Complexion Facial: (reg. $149) 1hr & 15min- I got this facial in order to decongest and clear up my skin. The first treatment did the job and I was pleased with the results. The major components of this facial are the intense peel, extractions and L.E.D light. Georgeta did this facial for me. I was brought to the soothing dark purple room where I told to undress and slip under the warm blankets of the spa bed. Georgeta asked me questions about my skin and skincare regime. She educated me about my skin and told me what types of products to use to benefit me. I felt like I was at a clash of the dermatology and spa world. My skin was then analyzed, cleansed, a sugar cane peel was applied; I then received a long oil face massage under steam to open up my pores. Then, the painful long part- extractions! The facial proceeded with a relaxing scalp, décolleté + arm massage and some serums and masks. The L.E.D light was psychotic! The L.E.D lights helps with acne, hyperpigmentation, reconstructing the skin and more. I could see bright flashing lights in different colors through my eyelids while I was lying there. I felt like I was abducted by aliens. The facial finished off with more serums, eye creams, hydrosols, moisturizer and sunscreen. The smells of the products used during the facials were such a delight. Also, I thought my face would be blotchy and red after the intense peel and extractions, but I was smooth, bright and super glowy! The only thing I did not like was the fact my eyelashes were falling out for days after the treatment, I don't know why. What I love about the facials here is that the products used during it are customizable according to the client's skin type. The Lip Treatment: (reg. $22) 15min- I needed something to plump my lips after the previous harsh winter that dried my lips out. Janet did this treatment for me and she's so gentle and knows how to relax you. The lip treatment consisted of a facial massage, exfoliation of the lips, hydrating serums, putting collagen and elastin in the lip and upper lip area. The treatment ended by applying a super moisturizing honey lip balm. My lips were pouty, shiny and super supple looking. I loved this treatment, but the exfoliation was way too gentle to completely get rid of all the chapped skin. Overall, Pure and Simple is a great place to get a facial or buy some skincare or cosmetics products. The products and services can be pricey, but it's worth it. I'd recommend people not to make plans after a facial since your hair will be greasy post-treatment. Also, they ask for your credit card info when you book an appointment. Pure and Simple at Yonge-Eglinton is an excellent spa! It is very down-to-earth and not frilly (I've been to those ones; many are overrated). I personally like that it is a more modest looking spa but has great aestheticians. It is very clean, relaxing and the rooms (3) are very quiet (on a long hallway with a door, protected from street noise). I am very happy this is my regular place to go. I have been here for facials too many times to count now, and it is the only place I will go to. I always make sure I have a regular appt. booked with Mila because she is very busy and it can be challenging to get in. She is amazing! I have also had Georgetta and she is great as well! (On appt. booking, if it's on short notice, staff are very helpful in trying to get you in). As for pricing on the treatments: depending on what type of facial (for example) you have done, it is either quite reasonable or commensurate to other spas. They also have monthly promos. I have been for all types of facials: Extreme Deep Pore, Super Hydrating, Urban Renewal, Salt Microdermabrasion. I always have enough time booked, so sometimes we just discuss and decide depending on what's going on with my skin and the season. My favourite is the Extreme Clean Deep Pore Facial which allows more time for extractions and includes arm, hand, LEG, foot (and scalp) massage. You are getting a mini body massage with your facial and it is a dream! I have sensitive skin. Extractions can sometimes be painful (even when you have the best aesthetician taking care of you) but I really have no complaints about their technique - it is done as painlessly as possible. For any facial I have had, I leave glowing, so content and relaxed! They will recommend products but it is not a hard sell, in my opinion. If you don't want to commit to any product(s) they will put a sample of the real product in a small container to take home and try. I have purchased products here, anywhere from their Pure + Simple line to Martina Gebhardt, and most recently Holistic Vanity. This last is quite pricey but you don't need a lot of the tonic or lotion so it lasts a LONG time. All price points here for products. Some people may think it is pricey (and some items are), but in actual fact I have spent more on popular brand specialty products in Shopper's Drug Mart. I hate being all over the place with products. Some tips if you need them: make sure you know how long the appt. is because they will book accordingly and it could be up to an 1 1/2 hours. If you're doing a full facial in preparation for an event, you want to have it done at least a day or 2 before the event. Although, they do have an 'on the go' facial (no extractions) which is just 30 minutes. Also, don't go with freshly washed/done up hair as you're going to get a scalp massage with some oils. Don't wear your best clothes for afterwards because when you have, neck, decollete, arm (maybe leg) massage, you will have oils on your skin which may get on your clothes. They also have a special facial/treatments for men. I see men here regularly, and not to stereotype, but not "metrosexual" type guys, regular "I don't look like I go for facials/spa treatments but I take care of myself" guys. Enjoy! read more

Here's a revelation - I suffered from severe acne for a number of years. I went to dermatologists, took prescription drugs, smeared creams that stung and burned on my skin but nothing worked. I tried everything skin care gimmick out there from that famous infomercial acne system to Chinese remedies. NOTHING WORKED. After walking by Pure + Simple many times, I did a little research. I found numerous articles and testimonials about how amazing this place was. There was also a mention of one particular aesthetician - Georgetta. I booked an Urban Renewal Facial with her. She analyzed my skin, cleansed, steamed, extracted, masked, rinsed, moisturized my skin until it glowed. While I had the mask on, she gave me a back, arm, leg and foot massage. I was in a state of bliss and relaxation. I didn't even care that I could hear people walking in the hallway or the muffled conversations going on at the front of the spa. After the facial, Georgetta recommended a facial every 6 weeks and some products. It wasn't a hard sell unlike other spas. I bought a package of 10 facials and the products she recommended. After 5 months, my acne was gone. If you think you've tried everything, give Pure + Simple a try. They could very well be what you were looking for. read more

She took her time to explain each step and what was going on with ease and comfort. Her hands are magical. This is what a facial and spa experience should be like. After doing extensive research, I went to Pure + simple yesterday to pick up new products for my skin. I'm a super saver so spending $200 on a skincare regimen was a bit painful. But the experience wasn't. The staff were really friendly. Not pushy at all. Someone asked if I needed help. I told her I came with a list and she left me alone to browse and select what I'd gone in for. The products were displayed in an easy to find manner so it was quick. The girl at the checkout asked if I'd been there before. I told her no. She glanced at my face and the products I'd chosen and said I had really done my homework. The best part is the results. I suffer from hormonal acne on my chin. After using my new regimen ONCE, a cyst came to the surface. I honestly felt like I'd tried everything and was at my wit's end. Thank you, Pure + simple! I came across Pure + Simple in or around 2009. I first read about them online and decided to give it a try. I went to the King Street location and saw Amy. It was the best facial I've ever had. Ever. I have since recommended it to four friends. All four came back to me and said: "I loved it". What makes Pure + Simple the BEST place to get a FACIAL in TORONTO? Quality care. The staff are knowledgeable and experienced and their services are reasonably priced. One could always argue that steep fees at haughty places such as Stillwater are for quality service and the ambience of a so-called "first-rate" spa, I would say you are wrong. Inferior service is everywhere, and snobbish personalities run rampant anywhere. Pure + Simple proves that quality shouldn't come at a premium. The attention and care you receive far exceeds the money you pay. They also have monthly specials - how can you not love a sale? Pure + Simple does one thing and they do it perfectly. Very happy I came here! Will absolutely return. Most importantly my aesthetician, Caitlin, was very informative about the skin products being used during my service without aggressively pushing products on me. She also kindly answered all of my questions about the trendy beauty products I was considering. I had the pure and simple facial with a peel and hydrating mask. After learning about my skin Caitlin selected and prepared an at home skin care regime sample kit. I've been trying the products for the past couple days and will be purchasing 4 of the sample products for my daily skin care plan. Overall great experience, upon arriving all staff were extremely kind, my aesthetician was amazing and my skin genuinely looks much healthier 3 days after my facial. I rushed in for a facial, late, wet (it was raining) and super-stressed from a long day. In short - very grumpy. I got on the table, the aesthetician (very nice, don't remember her name) looked at my skin, DIDN'T tell me how bad it is (it's actually normal, but I find that aestheticians tell you all your flaws until you feel like, What's the point? I'm a monster-face). Instead, she gave me information that I'd never heard before (how to tell if your skin is dehydrated - little criss-cross lines on the forehead that women mistake for being the onset of wrinkles - they're not! you just need more moisture!). Then....I fell asleep! I vaguely remember the arm and neck massage (did she massage my legs? don't remember!). That's how relaxed I was. At the end, I woke up, kinda embarrassed and said, "I was sleeping!" And she told me that when she saw how stressed I was when I walked in, she thought to herself that she was going to try and get me to sleep. And she did. It was some kind of awesome voodoo. I came here based on the awesome yelp reviews and because I couldnt get an appointment at the top rated one. I was really pleased with the service and the treatment I got. When I first walked in she gave me the info form and immediately asked if I want water. The form itself was a pleasant change. Questions included how I felt today and what I like most about a facial. The rooms are no frills but still nice with candles and painted purple walls. Relaxing music from the speakers and big heavy blanket to keep me warm. I like how the place isn't really a spa but simply a place to get my face fixed and pampered. I had Aga and I liked how she seemed really knowledgeable about my skin and asked me questions. It was like getting a diagnosis without going to the doctor. I told her I was looking for facial cleansing stuff and I likednhow she recommended things for me after the treatment as not to wake me up. First I used some facial cleansing products from the Pure + Simple line: the cleansing milk and collagen elastin plus toner were both soothing on my skin and I felt very happy to know that they were made free of harmful chemicals used in many mass-market beauty products. Then I went for an Urban Renewal facial at the Yorkville location. The hour-long treatment was so soothing and I loved the massages to my hands, feet and scalp! The selection at Pure + Simple is likely what draws most people there - they carry the widest selection of natural high-end beauty products in the city. The lines they carry are amazing and garner great reputation around the world. The staff are (usually) very knowledgeable and helpful - able to problem solve and find the right product for whatever you need. One star is lost because the Canadian / U.S. pricing is way off - identical products are significantly cheaper bought south of the border. In fashion most retailers have amended their pricing to reflect the now-consistent close exchange rates however I am not seeing this practice applied at the Pure + Simple store and as such will continue to source product either in the U.S. or online. Pure + Simple is a great resource to examine several product lines to really get a sense that you're purchasing the best possible product for *your* skin. read more

I had high expectations going in given the great reviews and I was not disappointed! I went in for a regular 60 min facial which included - Cleanse + toner - Steam with facial massage throughout - Gentle extractions with high frequency treatment after - Mask + decolletage massage It was one of the most relaxing facials ever as at no point, did I feel unattended and was given the most wonderful, gentle relaxing massages! I bought a package of facials and will be back. I will also say I was really impressed by the friendliness of the reception as well as how welcoming they were. I am a huge fan of Pure + Simple! I have been going to the englinton location since last December. I am going at least once a month, sometime two to three times. And my skin is getting better and better. I had a lot redness and also acne problem at my first visit. After several treatments, there's less redness also less acne! I could never go out without make up, now I can, feel great! I have done couple of their facials. All fantastic! My favourite is the Unban Renewal Facial, no doubt! Start with analysing skin, then cleaning, facial massage, exfoliation and then two masks with arm, foot and scalp massages. It feels so relaxing and fresh up every time! The receptions are so friendly and not so pushing, they tell you what's good for you but all depends on you with very good attitude. (Not like some places, they ask you to buy everything from them with arrogant attitude) I highly recommend Caitlyn, very friendly and professional! I had one time with Vera, she was very judgemental for whatever I am doing to my skin, Ugh. Caitlyn is very gentle when deal with skin and good at controlling pressure for massages. Love it! I had my first facial at the Midtown location, where I chose to come here based on the good reviews found online. However, I found my experience to be disappointing, mainly in the fact that I explained this was my first facial and was not certain of what to expect before, during or after. Otherwise, I felt relaxed and enjoyed my aesthetician, until I came home and realized what my face looked like. I absolutely do not look fresher and more rejuvenated, as many facials claim I should. My skin at this point, my face looks and feels worse than when I came in, and I am extremely worried about scarring post extractions. I am currently extremely red and blotchy, with no instruction on what to expect or how to care for the skin in the next few days. Nothing was explained to me by staff, which I feel is an absolutely minimal expectation for new clients, regardless of whether or not the client has questions at the time. I paid nearly 200$ and am tearfully disappointed, where I am now left to deal with worse skin than I came in with. read more

I had my first facial at pure + simple today by Julia. Check in was great, friendly staff. Greeted by julia right on my scheduled time. The facial room was comfortable, not overly relaxing but cosy. The esthetician began her facial without asking any questions about my skin but probably assumed I would like to relax(which I did) she had a good touch, gentle but firm. I have extremely sensitive skin so I'm always a little on edge about the products being put on my face but she used all extremely gentle products that felt and smelled really nice. The extractions were thorough but gentle. The facial was for an hour and she didn't cut anytime. She did a lovely job! read more

Pure + Simple is the best spa I have ever been! I've heard lots of good reviews about this place, so I decided to give it a try this Monday. I tried Urban Renewal facial, and guess what? It's really the best spa experience in downtown toronto. First, they began with cleaning and extraction. I felt really relaxed by the gentle and soft facial massage during cleaning, and more importantly, the extraction is not painful at all. One of the employees Sophie was extremely knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. She genuinely cares when she provides excellent customer service. She was never pushy in trying to sell anything, but rather wanted to educate on skincare regime and help me understand the products are suited for certain skin types. My first experience here was lovely. I originally was going to get the Super Hydrating Facial however after my skin specialist Shabna took a look at my skin she suggested I get the deep clean. I was so self conscious of my black heads on my nose but after the facial my nose was clear... And i mean not a blackhead in sight. My skin was glowing and I felt relaxed. The prices of their products are a bit much but if they're a good product I don't mind paying the cost. Their product line is extremely gentle yet effective to skin and I love how they would do monthly specials (it keeps me coming back). There are a few products I'm not a big fan of..this includes the Pure and Simple rejuvenating eye gel (too watered down) and algae serum (too sticky and oily for my skin type). I really wanted to like Pure+Simple. I was won over by their holistic lean and was inspired by the entrepreneurship of its founders; I even read Kristin Ma's book on holistic beauty. I was ready to buy a package of facials, thinking for sure this is just what my congested skin needs. Luckily, and I mean, thankfully, the kind girl at the reception advised me against jumping the gun and trying it out first. She was also kind enough to explain to me which type of facial I should choose and the differences between them; I left the spa feeling quite warm and excited for my appointment. It's now been two months post-facial, and I can safely say, I never want to step into this spa again. It has taken me long to write this review because I was initially too upset to write in a fair or coherent way. I am incredibly disappointed in my experience for the following reasons: 1) Upon an inspection of my skin, my aesthetician preemptively chastised me for my poor diet and dehydration. I give her credit for seeing that my skin was dehydrated, but as for diet? I eat a plant-based diet, steer clear of dairy and drink little caffeine. I could have done without the diet shaming. 2) Throughout the facial, my aesthetician expounded on issues, such as growth hormones in our dairy products and meat, why illness is rampant among our generation, how children are so vulnerable, and how what we eat affects our health. These points of discussion are all well and appreciated... outside of a facial. I mean, at one point, I thought, is this an episode of The View? I came to this spa to relax and help my skin; I did not want to be lectured or have somebody's opinions spouted into my face! She was so indignant at select topics that she even rattled the bed by slapping down on it repeatedly for emphasis. She remained oblivious to my cues at disengaging from the conversation, while I cringed whenever an errant drop of spittle hit my face. 3) Do you know what it feels like to slowly realize something horrible is happening in real-time, except not before your eyes as cucumber slices are obstructing your view? Well, ladies and gents, it feels like a whirlpool of pain, slight shock and newfound fear of your aesthetician, who clearly ignores that you have sensitive skin. My aesthetician ignored her own advice to steer clear of an area with a deeply clogged pore, and aggressively rooted around it like a dog digging for a bone; the damage was done within seconds. Post-facial, I had anticipated a purge of sorts, but I was in no way prepared for the onslaught of incredibly deep, painful acne that erupted in a rash across my cheeks and chin and nose. Worse yet? Each breakout that occurred as a result of the facial, has left a darkly pigmented or pitted scar on my face. These scars are the ones that take years to fade, so I can look forward to costly laser treatments in the future and constant reminders of my experience. A week after the appointment, I received a follow-up call. Upon hearing about my dissatisfaction, they wanted me to come in for a more advanced skin treatment, which I immediately declined. I know that I shouldn't judge the entire spa with the actions and conduct of one aesthetician, but the whole brand is ruined for me as even when I walk by the spa, bad feelings and memories surface. Thank you yelp for Introducing me to this place!!! I went to have my first facial (urban renewal) and *sigh* I can't describe how relaxed I felt. From the moment I walked into the place, i felt welcomed. I was offered water and they took my coat. I also filled out a little questionnaire asking how I was feeling today, my medical history and what products I already use. Mila then came up to me and introduced herself and asked if I needed her help with any of the questions, which was nice of her. She then led me into the room where I was suppose to have my facial. She always made sure I was comfortable. Throughout the facial and massage, she explained what she was doing and the products she was using and how it helps my skin. It was also nice how she knew a lot about eczema and told me how to deal with it. But yeah, I loved the facial!!! And I can't describe how heavenly the arm, leg, scalp, upper back and neck massage felt!! Then, it was done =( boooooooooo!!! My favourite go to place for facials. I have very problematic acne scars from my teenage years that I've been insecure about. Been doing AFA gel peel and clay treatment and just recently combined it with Dr. Ma's micro needling treats once a month and my scars are noticeably lightening. Going to combine salt micro abrasion treatments to correct textures but I'm quite pleased with the results. Feeling more confident to go without makeup which is also helping my breakouts and treatments. Best place to do facials after much research. I'm a regular customer and the girls know me by name. I read another review that has prompted me to share my similar story. First of all, I have had 2 truly great experiences at P+S, and absolutely LOVE the products that have been recommended to me. The estheticians that I have enjoyed have genuinely helped me resolve my adult acne issues, and I continue to be a customer. I have 1 experience though, that still weighs heavily on me, even though it's been about 6 months. When I went for my first facial (excellent experience), the woman recommended that next time I come in for a sea salt microdermabrasion to help with scarring. So, that's what I did. I spent the ~$200 to come in for a treatment that I believed was the best one for me and my skin. Only to be chastised by the facialist for choosing a service that was too harsh for my skin. She muttered things under her breath, and when I asked if we should do something more gentle, she said "It's too late to change it now" and proceeded to do the treatment. Low and behold, she was right. It led to some of the most horrific breakouts of my life. P+S offers a facial option where you can get assessed by a facialist on the spot, and they will recommend a treatment to you. How was it so impossible for her to change the treatment? Especially if she knew that it would be detrimental to my skin?! I still have scars. During the facial, she passed constant judgement on me and my life. Telling me how to eat, sleep, drink, and work out. Blaming my hormonal acne on diet choices, poor hydration, etc. I am a fully vegan, nutrition student that teaches yoga; I care very much about my health, wellness, and hygeine. She would have known those things if she had asked, but she didn't. Just assumed that I was constantly consuming dairy and sugar, not washing my sheets, and not washing my face after working out?! Come on. I was upset by this experience, because of all people, a facialist should have a thorough understanding of the profound impact that acne can have on one's self-esteem and sense of self-worth. I felt as though I could cry at many points during this treatment. I am a little bit older, more mature, and have dealt with acne for over a decade. But I often wonder how that experience would have felt to a teen? Or someone who has never had acne and is feeling ashamed? There is enough judgement from people who don't understand skincare about the hygiene level of people with acne. I do not also need it from my facialist. I take pride in my appearance, and left feeling very poorly about myself. The facialist did express surprise when I told her my age, she thought I was younger. I wonder if that was the reason behind the scolding and judgement? Not that it matters. I think that younger people may be even more vulnerable to the emotional impact of treatment like this, and a quality experience should always be given, regardless of age! Anyways, that's my story. I do recommend their services, but recommend that you go in with a thick skin and ready to speak up for yourself. Again, this is not my experience with every facialist. read more

I love the products here. They are high quality. Especially Martina Gerbhardt and Naturopathica. The Pure and Simple line is also really good, especially their toners/cleaners and the Collagen Serum. The reason why I am not giving this place a glowing review is becuase my skin broke out after every facial that I had here. Maybe my skin is super sensitive but extractions are not for everyone. Love the products here. Truly natural and organic skin care lines from around the world (including local products made in Toronto). I've had facials with Mila, Vera, and Caitlin and they were all fantastic. I showed up 15 minutes late once on a Sunday evening and Caitlin still took the time to provide me with a thorough treatment well into closing time. The staff at the Yonge location are noticeably friendlier and more accommodating than those at the King or Avenue spots. If you want quality skin care products and treatments at reasonable prices, skip the downtown hotel spas and go to Pure + Simple! read more

I had called pure and simple at Eglinton after reading many of the wonderful reviews. I tried to ask for one of the estheticians that were mentioned in the reviews. Tough luck, they are all booked weeks in advance. Despite my impulsive nature I decided to book the facial for some 3 weeks in advance, with Mila. I chose the Clear Complexion Facial, which has a bit of everything, including some LED treatments I was curious to try. I was overall happy with the entire treatment. Mila was thorough it seems, there were several masks, oils (these guys LOVE their oils), steam, some extractions (she steered clear of the of the deep, under the skin pimples I have, which I would have liked her to extract, perhaps with the use of a needle. I mean, this is why I am here, I can take care of the blackheads too) LED treatment, and she finished off with A LOT of oil. Note: If you plan on going somewhere after your facial, think again, You will be dipped in oil, your face and hairline will be oily, oily, oily. But, not red! The place itself is very simple, almost austere looking. Everything seems basic. Very clean too. Definitely not a fancy looking spa, but they do a good job. Why not 5 stars? Because although the treatment itself was good, for the price you pay ($150) you would expect a "treat" - a zen-ish environment, something better looking that a walk-in clinic, which is exactlywhat the place looks like. I will continue going here for my facials, but for the "technical" aspects; this is not the place to go to be pampered or to treat youself to a luxurious spa day. read more
