The GG front desk staff are great. The GG trainers will not look you in the eye, much less say "hello." The housekeeping staff is always friendly. The posted rules for the fitness floor and the (mens) locker room are not enforced. I mentioned this to the outgoing GM whose response was "oh, well." The rules that are mostly ignored are (1) talking loudly on a mobile phones, (2) using cameras in the locker room in front of the mirror, (3) using fitness machines and locker room benches as lounge chairs to fidget with a mobile phones and (4) dropping weights to create the macho appearance. The attachments for the cable machines are never organized in a place where you expect them to be. The machine maintenance is "run to failure," with no apparent preventive maintenance being done. I reported a noisy pulley on a cable machine that was blessed off by the staff as "so what, it works." The mens showers are missing handles and shower heads. The spa is never expected to work again. The parking is ample, and access to Wade Hampton Blvd and Locust HIll Rd is easy (heading south toward I-85 is tricky). Regardless, I renewed my yearly membership because the rate is reasonable, and GG is only 3.5 miles from my home.

Seems there's a problem and the teachers don't know when to show up or what they're teaching. They're changing the schedule and although there's a schedule online, that's very clear, the teachers don't seem to be aware of it. We show up for the classes and the instructors don't. One instructor always shows up 10 minutes late. I've spoken to other people who take our classes regularly and this one instructor is always late. One instructor, Katie, is great! She shows up early, she's prepared for her class. She instructions really well and she gives very clear instructions. The instructor that shows up late, her name is Angie. She's enthusiastic and a good teacher, but being chronically late is really wrong. Instructors need to show up early and be there before the class starts. Not walk in after the class should've started and first get set up. And today the third instructor didn't even know that she had a class to teach. She showed up for a class that doesn't exist anymore and then didn't show up for the class that does exist. Sadly, those of us showed up for class and had to keep going up to the front counter to find out what was going on. And no point did anyone come into the class and explain that there was a confusion on the instructors end and there would be no class, we all had to keep going up to the front desk. 20 minutes after the class should have started after asking the manager she said no there is no class today due to the confusion. But again, no one bothered to come into the room until all of us waiting around for a class to start that it wasn't happening today. One of the class members said she's looking for a new gym. I know I'm switching gyms.

When I was 19, I started doing yoga in my bedroom off of YouTube and as you can imagine, these two worlds are intertwined. The wellness community has been talking about the health benefits of sauna and cold plunge for a long time and recently I finally "took the plunge" (I had to, sorry.) Sauna House was my first experience with a sauna/cold plunge, and I am here to tell you it is truly life changing. As a physician, at times life and work can feel overwhelming; the hours and the stress can be hard on the body. Sauna House has been a sanctuary for me where I can slow down and remember to take care of my body, so that I can continue to take good care of other people's bodies. I can't fully speak to each of the precise mechanisms and pathways through which these treatments work, but I believe it involves improvement in vascular tone with the alternating vasodilation/constriction, reduction in inflammatory cytokines, largely through the effects of cold shock proteins, and there is some domino effect, which leads to a large increase of dopamine in the brain which probably accounts for the rejuvenating "high" one experiences after the cycle. It's good for muscle recovery, inflammatory pain, and mental health. Needless to say, it is a complex but scientifically based stress reduction medium. I absolutely love how SH has built an infrastructure for this type of treatment, from their dry changing rooms, private showers, to lockers. They really thought about the flow of this space (Greenville) and it is so intuitive and welcoming. They have also made it accessible for many people, with 2 hour drop ins to their public saunas and plunges under $50, cheaper than a manicure at many places. The effects it has on your body must be experienced firsthand, I can't describe it any further and I've run on too much in this review already. PS - When plunging, go all in! It makes it easier. Oh! And order the chai tea for after the plunge. Thank me later.

The owner is hands-on, always present, totally invested in their client's progress. The nutritionist, trainers and yoga leaders are the best, consistently there, again, invested in your journey, coaching you through to health and happiness! The cost is nothing compared to the benefits! I am actually saving money by living a clean, healthy lifestyle. The amount I am saving on "bad" food and medical bills is far outweighing my NFS costs. The gym, equipment, bathrooms/showers, sauna, and yoga studio are CLEAN, well maintained and beautiful. Everything is provided including towels, mats, bolsters, blocks, straps, etc so all you have to do is get there! During my 5 months with them, my physical body age (based on body composition of fat, muscle, bone density, hydration) has gone from 73 (which is older than I am) to 52 (which is younger than I am)! The facilities are really nice, the staff was friendly and professional, but the reason I'm not rating it well overall is because of the actual float experience. The temperature of the water was not what it was described to be- it was way colder and I was shivering for the last 20-30 minutes. Even with the earplugs, I heard noisy pipes and the water system doing its thing, music, doors opening and closing. There was too much ambient light creeping in through the pod lid. I just was not able to have that nice sensory-deprivation experience and float without a care in the world, and without sensory input. There was way too much input and the temp of the water was ridiculously low and it was overall hard to enjoy.

However, the service was extremely unprofessional and unorganized. I called the previous day to schedule two 45-minute massages for me and a friend. When we arrived 10 minutes early, we were told that we would have to go separately. Okay. That's fine, we can take turns and be patient. But then my friend went back at 4 and about 10 minutes later, the masseuse came back out to the lobby to me and asked me if I was there for a massage. I informed her that I was and I was supposed to go after my friend was done because we called and scheduled an appointment. She told me that couldn't happen because they were "too busy" today and already had 2 people scheduled at 4. And I had to tell her that I was the person that called and scheduled an appointment for 2 people. I was the second person. She took my phone number and then never came back to talk to me. She finally returned when my friend was done and told me that she could only give me a 30 minute massage because she had an appointment at 5:15 for 2 other people. Even though I had paid for the 45 minutes I was only given 30 minutes and she told me when I came back I could have a free extra 15 minutes.
