Today, class started at 8:30AM, but the studio is open at 8AM. I knocked on the window, was greeted by Beth, then walked through the door at 8AM. She helped me to rent a mat for free because it was my first visit. Then, she informed me about other classes at Pure, as well as a tour of the facility. The free mat was perfect for what I needed. There is an eyelet on the top left side of the mat, and that is where you lay the mat down in the room. I asked if the spots were reserved ahead of time because they do that at other studios, but there is not need to reserve a numbered spot - it just helps with mat placement and ensuring that people have enough room to move uniformly. I love that! I hate a crowded hot yoga room. The studio is surprisingly cleaner than most hot studios. There is a hydration station to refill your water bottle, which is nice because you aren't forced to purchase water. The restroom is really clean. I haven't seen gym showers that clean even at Equinox in California which I thought that the 3 SF Bay Area locations had nice enough showers. You are limited to a 3 minute shower here at Pure, but that's fine for a quick rinse and it's great when you have to share and are waiting for another person to finish, but they are taking forever to finish. The class itself was a nice succinct Bikram yoga class with the same 26 postures in 60 minutes instead of 90. Beth was a wonderful instructor who gave me a little trinket after my first class. I've been regularly going to the inferno hot Pilates class and wow it is the best workout. Low impact but you definitely work up a sweat, it's not for the faint of heart. The instructor is so motivating and upbeat. I can def feel myself getting by stronger. Be sure to take water and a towel!! read more

I joined Pure Yoga Texas about 5 months ago. I've been interested in Yoga for some time, but hadn't found a plea convenient for me. I fell in love with the this place. I then was introduced to Hot Pilates. Since I've been going, my pained areas in my knees, back and shoulder have decreased. I love this yoga. Why this yoga? I feel afterward like I've had a massage and run a marathon. Very hot, very specific sequence, very much patience and focus required. I feel refreshed after class. The inferno Pilates, also offered here, is a strengthening workout on par with any boot camp - was sore for days afterward. Amazing energy in that class. The floors are new and improved - there is no odor. Some people don't like the script but I find it comforting and on days when I've barely got any energy or focus it's like having a Tesla to do the driving for you. I love this studio. I love how clean it is. I love the schedule, which fits mine perfectly. I love that this yoga kind of forces you to be healthy because you have to be well hydrated to survive class. read more

This week I completed my introductory month with Pure. I am new to Bikram and yoga so my review is going to be more focused on the studio itself. I am loving Bikram and the results that I have gotten by practicing. - For "hot yoga", the reception that I've gotten at Pure has been lukewarm. I've only had one instructor that I've connected with in class. Kristen got me into postures that I hadn't been able to get in with other instructors. I absolutely loved her and I have tried to make the classes that she teaches - (Pure's instructors seem to float to all of their locations and aren't at one space consistently.) - but it just hasn't worked out. The other instructors are adequate but like another reviewer mentioned, there's no connection. In fact, I've actually felt awkward, almost hostile, vibes from a couple of staff members at the front desk and in class. It's just odd to walk into a place almost daily and feel unwelcome. Especially when I am on the cusp of paying a LOT of money to continue taking classes there. - Two weeks ago, the heater went out in one of their rooms so they decided to cancel their 5:30 class. A class that fit perfectly with my schedule. I overheard in the locker room from other yogis, that not only was the class not going re-added, but that they were moving to a new location. After some probing, the staff confirmed the news. I understand that they are going through some transitions but the timing of the announcement was not ideal. Just seems disorganized. Anyway, I am still on-the-fence about staying at Pure. I love the class and I plan to continue practicing Bikram. I am just not crazy about the studio. Maybe the new location will tie it altogether for me. I hope so! read more

I did the two week intro deal and truly enjoyed it. There are several locations, and your pass works for all of them. Everyone is welcoming, from the teachers (who all learned my name the first time and recognized me on subsequent visits) to other yogis who chat after class. The 90-minute is pretty standard, and the 60-minute goes by very quickly. Careful - it's shorter in part because they take out some of the breaks! I found those to be even more difficult. read more

I am new to Bikram so it was really important for me to find good instructors as well as a reasonable price. This studio has both with only a $49 introductory fee for unlimited classes for 1 month - that is awesome! I had looked around and this is really a price that you can't beat. I love the location and I guess it's fairly new - I mean the place is completely clean and while I was in a session I did notice some guy come and do a testing on the carpet in the room, to see how clean it was. Which is good I like to know that they are doing what it takes to keep it clean. The instructors are all very sweet and nice, I agree with other review that there are some you are going to connect with while others are just okay. I found that I like 3 in particular and try to stick to the afternoon classes to get them. But I think it depends on your personality on which you will like. The instructors try to explain what each pose is working out which systems in your body which I like since I am new to Bikram. The facility itself is great, like I said really clean. I didn't know that they had mat and towel rentals there and I dished out $75 for a new yoga mat! That was really expensive so please if you forget your mat the first time consider renting one instead of buying one from the studio! It comes with a lifetime warranty but still I wish I had known they rented! They also have showers in the restrooms and everything looks clean in there as well. In the hallway they have one of those cool water dispensing foutains - where you place your bottle and it automatically starts filling it. I love those machines and it works out great I just bring an empty bottle and my mat to class - makes it easier. So I highly recommend this place even for first timers because they are teaching me a lot I really like Bikram and Pure. read more

The new studio is more compact, flows easier and is beyond clean. I'm not sure what the carpet is made of but I think it's made of something that repels dirt and sweat. A complete first-timer tonight. I was told your only job today is to "stay in the room!" After 30min I was so hot, but I refocused my breathing as instructed and completed the full 90min class. So glad I pushed thru to finish - so relaxing and rewarding. Sure I wasn't able to hit all the poses, but received an amazing stretch, relaxation all due to the excellent coaching, support and push from instructor. This is my wifes' review: Ok, let me start with that I've been practicing yoga for almost 10 years with the last 6 being very intense. I've been practicing power and heated vinyasa but having just moved to Austin in February, I was reluctant to find a hot yoga studio that would have the same vibe and quality instructors that I was used to back home. So after googling and yelping 'hot yoga' in Austin, I found that Pure Bikram had a great reputation and it looked like a place I could keep developing my practice in. So decided to do their back to school special and went to a class. First of all, even coming in the door, I felt very unwelcome. The people at the check in desk were unresponsive with one person saying "You've NEVER done bikram before?!" as if to say 'what are you doing here then' when I said I had never been to a Pure Bikram studio before. After I was signed up and all, I went back to leave my things. The bathroom/change are was very clean, spacious and they had nice amenities in case you wanted to take a shower but didn't have your things. Walking into the studio, the smell of the carpet is unpleasant. I understand that they are antimicrobial etc. but just the smell makes you question it, especially after seeing everyone dripping sweat all over it during class. Personally, I like a 105F room with high humidity. I love the feeling of detox and sweat but that was pretty much all that I liked in the 2 classes I have taken at Pure Bikram. The moment class starts, I feel like I am in an army drill. I understand that Bikram is done in a certain way but I don't go to yoga to get yelled at or be scolded by the teacher. I got called out and scolded TWICE for not putting my towel on my yoga mat.(I have the lulu's The Mat, which is designed specifically for hot yoga so it's very grippy and definitely DOES NOT slip when there's sweat on it) But for the sake of cutting it short, I put the towel on my mat and it was an uncomfortable practice. It's my practice, I'm gonna put my towel where i want it. Hostile vibes continued through the class, with not one moment of silence so I could focus on my practice. The instructors almost read from the same script everytime and constantly give you orders (and they don't do the poses with you, fyi) Savasana, they keep telling you to keep your eyes open, not let your mind wonder. They call you out when you're doing something wrong or they tell you to push it and you're not even doing the pose if you're not doing it their way. I just found so many things wrong with it that I cannot being to describe.(I went to 2 classes by the way just to see if I would like it in time) But if every minute of it you're wishing it would be over, then just don't do it. Bikram is definitely not for me. I believe that yoga should be spiritual and different everytime you do it. You should be able to make the practice your own and push your limits at your own time. You should be able to let your mind wonder and ponder, the teacher should guide you deep into your practice. It should NEVER be a hostile environment that you don't want to be in. Bikram has made me see that I should keep searching for the right studio and instructor that will encourage my practice and help me grow. read more

First class today and I was just happy I made it through. The instructor was great and I actually found the class to be well balanced despite the 105 degree temp. The heat didn't bother me as much as I thought it would, but the carpet is so stinky that with the addition of heat, made it very unpleasant. Once you get into the floor poses, the smell is intolerable. I don't know if Bikram is only done on carpet, but if not they really need to get a floor. read more

Well my wife isn't an easy person to please & if she's happy, you know this place is good. The instructor was very patient, and easy going. No pressure or negative vibes when a specific exercise was difficult to perform. The cost was reasonable and the entire experience was just as pleasant as can be. Very upset. I had quite a few classes under yoga groove that didn't expire until 2017. Apparently they have disappeared or pure bikram gets to pick and choose what packages to honor when buying out a company. Pre paid unexpired classes disappear and I am supposed to be OK with that and just by some more..I dont think so. I will be spending my money elsewhere. read more

I previously wrote a longer review here about my first experience with Pure Bikram after it bought out Yogagroove. To make a long story short, they did not have a record of my Yogagroove pass, and I got pretty upset at the woman at the front desk about it, because I was going to lose 5 classes I thought I had. She did eventually give me credit but after my making a very un-yogic-like scene. (Let's just say maybe we were both having a bad day!) Of course, this did put a bad taste in my mouth about Pure Bikram, but I was hoping this was just an anomaly and not indicative of negative intentions on the part of the owners. I've started taking classes there and enjoyed them, and the vibe seemed to be much better than that first experience I had. I liked to see them offering a donation class to benefits Pets Alive and even better, to see one of the doggies hanging around the studio like from when it was Yogagroove. But I still had some concerns in my mind about the direction of the studio now that Pure Bikram bought it out. Well, I accidentally left my yoga mat at the studio this weekend and stopped by today to see if it was still there. I recognized (from their website) one of the co-owners, Jeff, who was hanging out in the lobby, and I had a long talk with him about my experience. He seems like a super nice guy, and I am glad I ran into him. It definitely made me feel better about Pure Bikram as a business. I won't get into all the sordid details, but he told me all about their difficulties integrating systems and apparently it's all been a bit of a mess. Also, apparently Yogagroove being really generous with passes and expirations maybe didn't help the business in the long run. OK, I get that as someone who has run a small business. Maybe some things could have been handled better but I think the intentions are good. Now what was really fascinating was to hear him explain the technology they are putting into place in the new studio they are building next to the Northcross WalMart. Special air circulation with germ-killing UV filters and anti-microbial carpets that don't soak up sweat will supposedly make the room a lot more bearable than the one at the old Yogagroove location. BTW... I've been pretty sick from mold/dust allergies lately and was having a hard time exercising as I was getting allergy shots that temporarily made me feel worse. After a break of many months, I finally dragged myself to Bikram two weeks ago and took it really easy in the room (only one repetition of each pose) and left with a screaming headache. Once the headache left, I felt like a new person. This weekend I had no headache, and my allergy shot today left no swelling or redness like it usually does! And I feel a lot better. Coincidence? I don't know. But I'll continue to go regularly and see how I feel. It's tough for me...I tend to overheat and must pat myself with a frozen washcloth to last through the class, but it seems to be helping my health overall. I just wish there was a shortened 1 hour hot yoga class. 1.5 hours for class means I need to block off 2+ hours for prepping and showering afterwards. I might go more if they offered some shorter classes (which I know is a no-no if you are an official Bikram studio - oh well). PS After reading another review by yet another Yogagroove student who was denied their pass by the front desk I'm lowering my stars here from 4 to 3. I just don't get why they think that treating people this way is going to get them more business in the long run. It seems like there are fewer people attending classes now (not that I go all the time, more sporadically, but still). My pass is running out and I will probably still go to some of their classes, but I am also going to check out Sunstone Yoga, which is also pretty close to me. I still want to give the owners the benefit of the doubt...but it seems in the least they have some staff they've hired and kept on who are rude and unhelpful, and they need to do something about it if they are going to get any sort of long-term loyalty from me. I'd hate to think how they might treat me in the future if heaven forbid there is some sort of computer problem with my pass info. read more

Great instructors & nice facility! I'm new to Bikram (practicing about 3 months), but the entire staff at Pure Bikram made me feel so welcome and quickly calmed my nerves and intimidation. I really love that the instructors float between all locations! It's great to meet and experience the different staff, but it also gives me a great feeling to know I can go into any one of their locations and more than likely already know the instructor! They run great specials... I first joined with their new student package (unlimited month for $49... how great is that?!!). Bikram itself is just an amazing practice.. I can't even call it a workout; that just doesn't describe it. It's truly a meditation, healing practice, preventative practice, medicine, and a great cardiovascular workout! For anyone scared to give it a try... GO! TRY IT! It doesn't matter if you're an experienced yogi or new to yoga, it's designed for all levels. I am so glad I found Pure Bikram Yoga :) read more
