I stopped here twice. When I got here I wandered around upstairs and although many of the studios were closed, most or all of the artists had works decorating the walls. The first place I stopped was at the studio of Galen Frost Bernard, because he happened to be opening the door of his studio and welcomed me in. It was really fun to talk to him about his background, his art, some of the elements in his pieces, and learning about a few prints that I was particularly interested in. I ended up purchasing one of them, and getting the name of one of his completed originals so that maybe I can ask about getting a print of it later. He also painted the mural on the walls between his studio and the Art Garden. Next I stopped in Lori Portka's studio, and she was one that I had originally planned to visit. She has really vibrant, joyous paintings, and also has pillows, cards, prayer-type flags, wood prints, and so on. I bought a print of a piece called Abundance Goddess, which I felt an affinity towards because I have similar coloring and it felt really special to see myself in art. I also got a pillow and several cards, because I love greeting cards. Her work certainly brightens up my home. Sarah Faulkner is an artist whose work I saw at Woolworth Walk, and she has a studio here but currently, during the pandemic, is only open by appointment. I stopped by her studio to peek in the windows anyway, and also caught a glimpse of her neighbor's work. When I returned the next day, I ended up buying two original pieces by Elizabeth Carrington Porritt, as well as a small print. I'd love to have a larger original by Elizabeth one day--perhaps a commission--and a work by Faulkner as well. In fact, I already plan to purchase a giclee print of her work 12 Karats to put in my kitchen. I rounded out my visit to Riverview Station by visiting The High Fiber. They make hand-dyed textiles. I bought several flour sack towels; I love the beautiful, vibrant colors that are used in this work. I'd really love to purchase some napkins as well, because when the pandemic started I moved to reusable placemats and napkins. I'll be watching their site and instagram for when they come back in stock (particularly the adorable bear ones!). I didn't get to do all I wanted whilst I was in Asheville--in particular, I didn't get to visit all the artist studios I wish I had. So I certainly expect to return, and I will definitely find myself wandering Riverview Station again. Hopefully with as large a car, and with bigger pockets!

Oddest Clay Works hosted a community event where everyone got to make a tile that will become part…read moreof a larger art installation. It was beautifully organized and such a joy to be surrounded by neighbors, all creating something together. I'm genuinely excited to see our tile incorporated into the final piece. It means so much to have businesses like this that foster creativity and connection--helping to make our community better and more vibrant for everyone. Being in the space was inspiring and see us going back in the future when our baby is bigger to do so more creative projects. So much art to see and all made right here.

The space is large and open with high ceilings. Located right downtown, The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design is a must-visit gallery. I've never seen a one-person show here, rather the shows have a theme, which is great to experience a variety of work.

We had not walked more than a few paces before we were accosted by a super aggressive man who barked "CAN I HELP YOU?" and then literally turned and walked away. I said, "would you like us to leave?", and at first he didn't respond, just stared at me. I asked again. Then he yelled "yes". WTH? My wife is an artist and we have a working studio in St. Pete - I would never treat a potential customer that way. Every other time we've been in there we've had a great experience. This man's** behavior was seriously off and has made us not want to return. You must be well enough off to not care about offending customers. There are enough other studios for you to visit. If you want to avoid being attacked, I'd recommend skipping this one. **this was the studio straight ahead at the top of the ramp.

Located in the River Arts District, It's like an old service garage or something akin to that. And everywhere you go there are different artists creating their craft. Level after level, corner after corner. Come here to explore because you will most certainly miss something if you don't scour this building from top to bottom. Take for example, my friend's gallery. You go in the front door- wend your way to the back, go down a flight of sitars, wend your way back to the front and Viola! Micheal Ebbs Fine Art Photography. I kept going the wrong way on the stairway but it just let me find some other great artists in the place! Love the range of art that is contained in here and the fact that these are working studios so you can see people as they paint their pottery or play with clay. And there are other galleries just up the street so be sure to see all that this area has to offer. There is a small parking lot across the street if you drive, and if you take a cab- be sure you know where you are going- this place must be hard to find as my cab driver, in frustration finally just turned the meter off and drove me around until I recognized the place! They are open Tuesday - Saturday 10 - 4 but be sure to check their website before heading out as they also have several special events that you can partake in. So let me end where I began. It's interesting. Very interesting. And worth the trip out of the central downtown area.
