When I first walked in I felt a little uncomfortable because a lady met me at the door (you know the feeling you get when a sales person comes up to you wanting to sell you something) and I started to feel like she might have thought I was there to steal something. But VERY soon after that she made me feel very welcome and she explained the set up of the store. As we walked around we started to laugh and joke. I wasn't there to really buy anything, I just haven't been to there new store since they had moved and wanted to check it out. I ended up spending $116.00 on yarn. That store and service was amazing. I got all kinds of information about upcoming events, websites to check out, a discount because I had already signed up for their program when they were at the fairgrounds, and a very cute hot pink reusable bag with their logo on it. I could have spent all day there. And I had recently bought a spinning wheel in a yard sale and was wanting to start spinning and they helped me out with questions about it too. I first found about Friends & Fiberworks from a billboard on the interstate. We travel in that direction occasionally so on the next trip I mentioned it to my husband. We asked for directions and found the store easily. I was amazed at the selection of colors and yarns available. I am not a knitter. My obsession is crocheting but I have knit in the past and they provided me a pattern and gave me advice on the project. Recently my best friend and her husband came to visit us at our condo in Gatlinburg. One of the trips I had planned was to bring her to Friends & Fiberworks. Where I crochet, she knits. I believe she fell in love with the store the same as I. I always take a good ribbing for not knitting and then am reminded it takes far more yarn to crochet than knit a garment!! read more

Local yarn shops are SO hard to come by! They close many more than open. That's why I'm so excited to find this LYS in the neighborhood of my sons in Asheville!! Makes a visit with them a must drop by Friends and Fiberworks! It is everything an LYS should be: warm, inviting, lots of people sitting around knitting, most of them young women! And so helpful! One young woman showed me her stitch fixer she had made out of a machine knitting needle with a resin epoxy handle. After showing me how it worked, she sold it to me! OOAK! Oodles of great yarn you can touch and feel. They let me use one of their computers to pull up Ravelry to find patterns. I have enjoyed every single visit to Friends and Fiberworks. They always have everything I need, mainly because there is so much. I have always felt welcome there, even though I am not a local. They have a frequest buyer program so I can get a discount, the more I buy! I am saving up so I can go on one of their fabulous cruises, too! The colors and the samples are amazing and there is tons of inspiration and lots of fun & laughs every time I visit. The clothes they carry in addition to the yarn & needlework supplies, are the best and hippest outfits I have ever seen. Friends and Fiberworks is hands down the best place to shop for all things yarn in western NC. I've never seen so much gorgeous yarn in one place! Oh, the possibilities! I always find exactly what I'm looking for to complete a project, whether it's yarn, needles, hooks, or buttons. If you prefer working from a kit, they have a huge array to choose from. There's a section devoted to weaving and felting, and another area for clearance yarns. Need help? There's always a sweet person there who will be happy to sit down with you and work through it. I live in Raleigh, but we visit Asheville often. Every time we drive west to the mountains, it is a requirement for my family to drop me off at Friends & Fiberworks so I can shop. On our last trip, my husband and kids found a family arcade nearby where they spent the afternoon so I could have several hours to shop and knit. It is, by far, the friendliest stop-in-and-knit shop I've visited. The staff is warm, friendly, and helpful without being overbearing at all. Even in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Lisa has her shop up and running, sending out online orders quickly. I don't live close by, so mail order works great for me. Lisa called me when one of the yarns I ordered was out of stock and I picked a replacement from the website while I had her on the phone. I've placed two orders this week, the first came next day and the second is out for delivery today. Lisa and her staff are always very helpful and very friendly.....I can't get to her shop often, so I am happy she has her shop online for mailorder. I was more than satisfied. I am 82 and recovering from a stroke. I not only received first class service but I feel like I made some new friends. I might not be so good at walking now but knitting is terrific therapy. I am thrilled with my purchase and am making great progress on a beautiful shawl for my sis who lives in England. I will definitely return to F&F again and again. I'd especially like to thank the 2 ladies who sat me down at the table and brought me a beautiful selection of yarns. This is an awesome store with many varieties of yarn and notions. The people working there are super friendly and welcoming, and always ready to help you with selecting yarn for a project. If you can't find a pattern you like, they even help you find one online right in the store! Our knitting group does a day trip and drives over to the store where we are greeted by fun-loving staff with a great sense of humor. We do a lot of talking, laughing & buying yarn. I love this shop and make it a point to go in there everytime I am visiting my parents on the East Coast. It's a little jumbled(so much yarn!!!) But for all the fiber overflowing, it's actually pretty easy to find stuff. They have a beautiful selection of great yarns(like practically every color of Malabrigo!) And the women working there have always been super friendly and nice and helpful. I've never gotten a "snobby" yarn shop vibe. What a wonderful yarn shop! Besides the fact that they have the largest yarn selection in the southeast, the employees are so very helpful and knowledgeable. It can take hours just to really look at all that they have there.......... from economical yarns to the most luxuriously tempting silks and cashmeres and exotic yarns. I shop there at least once a week and often stay and knit for a while. If you have any questions about knitting, crocheting or weaving, there is almost always someone who can help you. I have been to the new location for F&F and love it!! So much yarn and so little time. The entire staff has been most helpful and quick to aid me in selecting the perfect colors to combine in any given project. My knitting group on Thursdays will be gathering at the shop to not only sit and knit but to explore all their yarns this Thursday, 8/26/21 from 10:30 to 12:30. I first visited Friends and Fiberworks while visiting our son in Candler. I could spend hours in this place! There isn't anything a fiber enthusiast of any kind, knitter, felter, Weaver, spinner, or crocheter, couldn't find or wouldn't love. Add to that the kind, knowledgeable staff and this place reads like a warm hug. I've been to this shop a few times on vacation, and it's wonderful! There's a huge selection of yarns, at lots of different price points. Each time I've visited I've found something special for a souvenir. The staff has also been consistently friendly and inviting each time I've popped in (as a male knitter, I don't take that for granted). Love this store! Helpful staff who let you "poke around" freely and knowledgeable to ask any question of. Very friendly and inclusive. Genuinely interested in my finished projects not just selling yarns. I'm not a regular but get there 3-4 times a year. Lisa and staff have the nicest yarn store in NC. Best selection, great service and help is available at any time. Lisa is easy to work with as the workshops organizer of the annual Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair (SAFF) and has made that event a huge success.
