I am concerned because I was scheduled to have a pick up on Tuesday the 28th. So far my bags and boxes are to in front of my door. When I finally talked to someone from the company on Tuesday evening I was told that there was nothing outside my home. (an absolute lie) I have had 10 bags and three boxes outside my door since Monday evening with signs posted and written words that said donation all over them. I am so disappointed. read more

You can schedule pickup online, which I find convenient. You don't have to be home. Just put your stuff out on the driveway by 8:00 am. On rainy days, I have left the garage door open enough to shelter the boxes. They have always left their brochure. I have not bothered to claim anything I sent them on my taxes, unlike Jaclyn B. They'll take TV sets and other working electronic equipment that is more than 5 years old. Most of the places in A2 only accept electronics less than 5 years old. They even take RAGS. I assume that is for fiber recycling. When someone donates to me fabrics which are just NOT suited for quilting, I send them here when I can find no other use for them. read more

Purple Heart Foundation - Community Service/Non-Profit Near Me - Westland, Michigan

They pick up when they say they will. Never had a problem and if one veteran benefits it's worth the effort.

For a non-profit organization with goals of collecting donations, this Foundation is EXTREMELY unorganized and non-responsive. The last two on-line pick up requests were never received/confirmed by them. I sent 3 e-mails requesting confirmation - no response. I called the morning of each pick up only to find that I was not scheduled. Today was the final straw. After solving the pick up issue, I come home to find that the driver picked through everything I left outside. He took the bicycles but didn't take the camera or CD player. He took 2 warming dishes but didn't take decorative jars or relish dishes. There are a lot of other charities out there that would gladly welcome donations and that is exactly what I will do the next time I am I gather items to donate. read more

Wanted to do a good deed by donating. They picked up my items in addition to the items that were delivered to my house that day. I ordered a dress overnighted to be delivered Friday so it could be worn to an event on Saturday. Well Purple Heart took the fedex package "cause it was really hard to decifer it wasn't a giveaway" so they are now closed for the day and are not open on weekends. I even called corporate with no help. I will call back Monday and see if they can find it:-/ read more

My family is in the process of moving and wanted to donate a lot of items, including some relatively new and unused household items and children's clothing. I scheduled a pickup a through donatestuff.com for two days before we needed to be out of our house and received confirmation of the pickup. The day before the scheduled pickup, I received a reminder email, so everything seemed great. That morning around 7am, I hauled 25 bags and boxes to the front of our house for pickup. However, around 4:30pm on the scheduled day, I received an email that their truck was full, and they were rescheduling us for the following Monday (6 days later). Since our move out date was in 2 days, everything had to be out of the house. I tried calling multiple times, and the phone did not connect. After about an hour of calling, I finally got through to a really rude woman who told me that there was no way they could pick up any earlier after I explained our situation. There are no options for dropping these items off at another donation facility (other places are temporarily closed due to COVID-19), and with the short time frame we may end up having to throw a lot of this gently used/new stuff in the garbage. I get that this is a charity and probably has limited resources, but they could invest in some better organization and scheduling to make sure that they can accomodate requests for pickup (and maybe get volunteers/staff that are more sympathetic and not rude). I wish I had read the other reviews before contacting them so I could make arrangements to move these boxes or have them dropped off someplace else. I feel bad for Vets and their families, that are not being better served by this organization. read more

I drop off at the Westland location , they always help unload my car .They are always super nice and friendly and hardworking to move all those boxes around in the truck all day , this isn't a glamorous job but they really care . I'd rather donate to them and help veterans then goodwill which is a for profit company but also close to drop things off . Its weird to me that people would leave a bad review. This is a non profit that you can donate items to , you literally get to get rid of stuff you don't want for free . People now a days take everything for granted and get all upset their junk wasn't picked up during a pandemic , seriously you people should be ashamed of yourselves. If you want to get rid of your junk that bad throw it out or put it on the curb and and make a Craigslist post , people will come pick it up . If you actually want to help Purple Heart , make a cash donation or donate good items and drop them off your self. It should be us helping them not the other way around. People have their purposes and priorities all backwards . We are living in such a selfish society that people gave their lives for us to be here! I actually feel bad about rating a charitypoorly-although it has such a good mission, they struggle with execution. My husband and I combined two households when we got married. Plus we got a lot of bridal shower gifts. And then we got a lot of wedding gifts..... we had a lot of good, slightly used stuff. We were hoping to get some money out of it- so we had a garage sale for three days and then packed up everything we didnt sell and set it out for purple heart two days after the sale. I was really excited with the timing of it! Perfect. It seemed simple enough, set up for a pick up online and done. We took inventory and packed it all up- and it took 5 hours but felt relieved that we could purge so much "stuff." We had about 30 boxes for them! The next day after work, I went to the house to get the receipt for our taxes and to my surprise- nothing was there. I was confused because that is their process. They pick up, give you a receipt, you claim it on your taxes and the world continues to turn. Simple enough, right?! WRONG! I looked EVERYWHERE for the receipt, around the bushes, side of the house, thinking it may have been blown by the wind (even though, it was a very still day). I was disappointed- how does this work? So, the next day, I tried to call the line to see if I could get a receipt sent to us. I waited on the phone for 22 minutes before someone picked up and then that person accidently hung up shortly after.... Seriously people?! I wasnt in the mood to call back that day and wait ANOTHER 20 minutes... so I waited until the next day. Same thing. I called again during my lunch hour and it took 17 minutes this time before they picked up. The lady wasnt overly friendly or apologetic about it and said we should have it in 4-6 weeks. Ha... just enough time for us to forget about it. Overall, as a non-profit you rely on people to give you items for your charity. You should run like a business and not act as though people are important. I am not saying they have to throw a parade but treat people with respect. With that said, we will be picking another organization to donate to next time. read more

Hate to give a charity a bad review but these folks are deserving. I spoke with someone they "Said" was a supervisor a few times and could not get them to stop calling me. Repeatedly I was told they would stop, but the calls just kept coming. I set up a day for them to pick up donations and they never showed up. I spent a lot of time gathering tons of stuff and hauling it all out for them to pick up and they never showed. They left me a porch full of stuff to haul back down to the basement. When I called to check on why they didn't come I was on hold forever and they really didn't get the problem. Just do it again and in a few weeks, we can come back out. Fool me once..... read more

Google: William Ellison and Value Village/World. All of your Purple Heart donations are sold to Value Village/World and purchased for pennies by the pound/truck whatever, and sold for profit. Mr. Ellison's thrift shops are the most successful in the US (it was, and could still be world). They have an F rating as far as charities are concerned. This is NOT the method to use to aid veterans. It is a disgraceful misrepresentation of a military honor. read more

I am not impressed with Purple Hearts at all. They called me (I did not call them) last Tues. October 18 and asked if I had anything to donate. I said yes as a matter of fact, it was time to go thru my upstairs. She apologized for such short notice and said have it out by 8am on Fri. October 21. I worked very hard on Wednesday and Thursday and had everything out by 6pm on Thursday evening. I just now tried to call them but hung up after being on hold for 15 minutes. I will be calling Salvation Army on Monday and will be saying no to Purple Hearts from now on! Oh ya, NO ONE ever showed up! read more

I have donated to Purple Heart twice in the last 6 months. On both occasions no receipt was left in the mailbox nor in the door. I had to call to get a receipt and was disconnected twice. Although this is a charity service, it should not be a difficult task to receive the receipt as promised. I will no longer donate to this charity and will find another charity which is better organized. read more

I have people call me from out of town phone numbers saying they are from Purple Heart and I have no way of telling who they are or if this is real. They do not leave a receipt at all and it is always different people calling me. I will not be donate anything any more to the Purple Heart. read more

This was my first experience with Purple Heart-I am new to the area and a couple of my new friends recommended this organization for my donations. I called them on a Monday afternoon and was told they could be here next Wednesday----- I whined a little (just a little!) and asked if that was really the soonest they could be here-the very friendly girl said she would check with her supervisor- she then said "how about tomorrow"!!!!! I was thrilled!! The truck was here by 8:30 am -the driver was very nice and friendly-he handed me the receipt -loaded up the truck and was gone in about 10 minutes!! I will definitely call them when I have more to donate!! read more
