The two grasses I bought are just beautiful and Gene's regular price was much lower than I expected to pay for ones of their size. The man who helped me was very knowledgeable and courteous, and I just love the country "feel" of the place! A sweet black and white kitty was the first to greet me when I entered the store to look for help. Then, I noticed so many interesting things to look at and buy for the garden. I knew right then that I was going to have to come back again soon when I had time to just browse. Mostly, however, I was impressed by the quality of plant material surrounding the store. All the plants looked very healthy, and the prices were very reasonable. So, I drew a picture of my foundation landscaping for the man who helped me with the grass to discuss my ideas with him and see what he might suggest to solve a challenging aesthetic problem. In just a few minutes, he ended up showing me what I believe will be the perfect solution! In fact, I am going back today to buy those plants after discussing this approach with my husband. Bottom line, I shop for value first, but ambiance and service are just as important to me - and Gene's Evergreens seems to have it all. If you are as fussy as I am and if you love real country places, check out Gene's on Mountain Road. Update 11/14/12: One of the three evergreens I purchased did not make it after about a year, so I went back to see about replacing it. I did not have my receipt, but the owner offered to give me 50% credit toward another one like it. I thought this was amazing since it is likely that we did not plant it correctly and over-watered it, so it was not that the plant was unhealthy or anything.

When the pallets were delivered and my husband started the project and opened up the pallets, what was inside the pallets was rubble, small, and some medium sized pieces. Not many large pieces - maybe 15 in all. When I called to speak to the owner he said he didn't know anything about what was in the pallets. He I saw the same thing he saw. My suggestion to him - let people know before purchasing. Put a sign up. We assume, as the owner of Genes, that he knows what he is selling to the buyer. Now we need to buy more bluestone, and I won't buy from him. I'll go buy from somewhere who deals in stone. I suggested he give us two pallets for free since most of our product was worthless and said - "I won't do that". Oh and lastly - one of the bigger pieces had already been cut around a 4x4 post.

I was looking for liatris and cone flowers and could not find them anywhere until I stumbled upon…read morethis place. I looked for nurseries that were near reisterstown and this place came up. The drive to this place was so pleasant, it was surrounded by miles and miles of farm land and beautiful homes. It had a very small town vibe to it. I didn't get any data service in this area. They had a nice variety of cone flowers. Prices seem to be decent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They had perennial hibiscuses, very healthy looking hydrangea varieties, lavenders, clematis, elephant ear plants and a good collection of other sun and shady perennials along with annuals. Found the most pretty looking sedum plant, forgot to buy it though. All plants looked healthy. They were selling proven winners brand too.

We popped in late this Spring and connected with Vicki, whose knowledge is incredible, and only outpaced by her obvious enjoyment in helping people. She helped us buy the perfect hanging baskets, told us the smart way to take care of them, and cheered us on as we left to take them home! Today, we went back for Fall flowers and she did it again. Really, the whole staff is awesome, helpful, and oh-so kind. You cannot go wrong here. And their prices are terrific. For me, not the best reason to go, but the cherry on top of the otherwise already delicious experience.
