I have been going to Dr. Rivas at PV Smiles annually for the past 4-5 years and find him to be a very professional and excellent dentist. He speaks perfect English, does great work and his facility is as well equipped, if not better, than most in Canada. As a winter snowbird, with pre-planned arrival and departure dates from PV one is limited in getting any second opinions on dental issues and for the scheduling of appointments and the delivery of possible dental appliances. I would recommend that people get a very clear, itemized quote and schedule for any work to be done by any dentist. As it is common for payments to be made in advance for the manufacture of dental bridges and implants etc., this adds an additional imbalance of control. With Canada's new Dental Plan (for those who qualify) I am not sure there is any longer a great cost saving in having work done in Mexico, unless you have American dollars. read more

US native, here. This will be a long review, but I think they deserve all of the recognition. I recently took a trip to Puerto Vallarta with my husband for our anniversary. Prior to taking the trip, I visited a dentist in the US and was told that I needed 6 root canals,etc etc. Even with my insurance I was quoted at 16k. I started doing a lot of research and realized that US dental insurance is not worth it at all and began learning about medical tourism. I started calling around and eventually found White Smile studio and Ari from their office answered the phone. She spoke fluent English, was so incredibly nice and answered every question I might have. I sent over my X-rays and treatment plan and a few hours later Dr.Gustavo had reviewed them and made a tentative treatment plan (pending his own examination of course as he wanted to see me in person to be sure) and gave estimated pricing. His opinion was that I only needed 1 root canal, 6 fillings/some inlays/restoration/etc. I continued emailing with Ari and sent off my X-rays to some other dentists just to see why I was getting differing opinions from my US Doctor just to compare other dentists recommendations. I had a great feeling about White Smile from the start. After talking with Ari, she offered to let me do a video call with Dr. Gustavo so I could get to know him and let him answer any other questions. Dr. Gustavo met with my husband and I and explained everything with great patience and kindness. After this call I went ahead and booked my first appointment immediately. Dr. Gustavo took time out of his own day to talk with me for half an hour at no extra charge. Upon arriving, the office was clean, modern and everything I expected. Dr. Gustavo did his own exam, compared my X-ray, and told me that he now thought I needed two root canals along with the fillings/etc but that one of the other things I needed wasn't necessary after looking and offered to do my cleaning for free! The price ended up being cheaper than he initially thought. I ended up paying less than 3k out of pocket and am waiting on my insurance to reimburse whatever little they will do. They are in this practice to take care of their customers and make sure they are 100percent healthy without trying to upsell. He brought in his own root canal specialist (I regret not recalling his name) and Dra. Tania to do the crowns, fillings, inlays, restorations, etc.He checked in on the work as it was being done also. All of the staff was so gentle, kind, and patient with me during my visit. They took time to make sure I was comfortable and not in any pain and did not hesitate to take more time if I needed them to re-explain something or to make sure everything was as perfect as it possibly could be. I will send anyone I know to this establishment and should I ever need dental work in the future outside of a cleaning, I'll probably plan to visit the absolutely beautiful city of Puerto Vallarta and come to them directly. The last thing I wanted to do was get extensive dental work done on vacation, but I would 100percent do it all over again. Ari is still communicating with me via email to this day assisting me with paperwork needed for insurance (we've probably sent close to 100 emails since this all began and she has been so kind and helpful every step of the way) if you have ANY questions, call and speak to them. It has taken me a while to review because I look SO DIFFERENT that I kept wondering if it was all good or not. My new veneers are beautiful and my bite is good, so no complaints there. But I have had crooked teeth so long that I guess I didnt know what to expect. Over a lifetime, I had grown to accept the snaggle eye tooth that stuck out a little and the sideways way I had to tilt my head to smile and not look cockeyed. So this was a dream of mine - to have beautiful teeth. But I also did not want that perfectly straight look of dentures. I felt like Something About Mary at first...but everyone kept telling me they look great. The true test did not come until I saw my mother at Thanksgiving. She is brutal. Gain a pound, she will pinch it and make a comment. Hair color a little off - she will relentlessly make fun. I expected *some* joke or mean comment at a minimum and was preparing myself to not be hurt and see if I could cut away the jokes and find out if they really were too big or too straight or looked like broken shards of glass (that was a dream I had shortly after getting them) She simply said "oh your smile is gorgeous, you should have done that years ago" she inspected very closely and had nothing mean to say. And I am sure she was looking for one. First, I should probably run find a therapist and discuss the whole thing. But second, she confirmed what I kind of believed but was too shocked to really accept. This doctor designed a beautiful smile for me. I've had them about a month and laugh and smile bigger than ever before. The hardest part has been NOT cocking my head a little to compensate for my former sideways smile. My smile is still my smile, a little higher on one side. But to me it is much better and we are always our own worst critics Prices were 1/4 what I would have paid in Los Angeles. 1/3 what I would have paid in a less ridiculous American city. I am super pleased and will be visiting this dentist again - it is cheaper to pay for a flight and vacation than to try to do my dental in America. He is awesome. An artist. read more

Booked a process with P V Smile Dr. Rivas. When we booked our procedure we expected the entire process to take a couple of visits within a one - two week span. Never did we expect the process would be delayed over and over again extending to the end of a 4 week period. Between the multiple visits to pv smiles office, I believe them to be at least 12 visits, the days spent in pain and discomfort, the better part of our vacation was literally taken up due to many factors affecting the process. We literally did not get to use our vacation in a normal fashion and can say that we probably did not enjoy many of the days in Puerto Vallarta. We had booked a three week vacation at the Resort and were excited to find a dentist close enough to the resort where we could walk to. At the end of the three week vacation, when we were scheduled to leave, we were notified that the teeth were not completed and more work would need to be done. While this was disappointing, it was nothing short of inconvenient as we could not stay at the Resort. We were fortunate that our daughter was also vacationing in Puerto Vallarta and she offered us to stay with her at her resort. Not without complications as she had only a single room and it could not accommodate two extra individuals. Fortunately she was able to upgrade her stay to a two bedroom unit at an additional cost but at least we had a room to stay in for the next week. This change came with an additional cost which we had to pay amounting to $1000 for the week. Then we had the issue of our flight which had to be confirmed for the following Saturday - another distraction and process we were not counting on for this vacation. Overall, the length of time to do the dental work cost us the majority of our vacation time and additional costs. I understand that much of the delay was blamed on the lab and the work they did, but nevertheless these delays should not have been so numerous that they ate up our entire vacation. It's hard to believe that the lab issues could not have been mitigated somewhat, with better attention to details, thereby reducing the number of delays and getting the task completed in a timely fashion. Additionally, we noticed on arrival here that a portion of the bridge has broken off and there is a hole between the bridge and the gum. A cost to repair by our dentist here which is very costly hence the reason we went to Mexico in the first place. We contacted Dr. Rivas and we were less than pleased with his acceptance of the problem. His recourse was for us to have the bridge removed and sent to his office whereby he would consider a 30% refund of monies we paid. This is totally unacceptable as we would have to have this done by our dentist at a cost that would exceed what Dr. Rivas is proposing and we would have to have the entire process redone here. We cannot give this clinic a decent review because of all the complications we experienced and the clinic's reluctance to make any reasonable restitution. Bill Rose read more

Once upon a time, I had a toothache. I am currently a seaman (hehe) and I spend most of my time on land in the amazing city of Puerto Vallarta. I found Dr. Noel Rivas using Google. Called and got an appointment a week later. Dr. Noel was friendly, kind, and knowledgeable! He's been practicing dentistry since 1976. He is gentle too. No pain dentistry. Turns out I had a cavity. I got an x-ray, novocaine, and a filling for only $50!!! What in the what?!? A cleaning is only $55!!! Oh, and I'm about to make it better, it's 10% off if you pay in cash! Dr. Noel's office is clean and modern. His staff of two girls are sweet and helpful. Needless to say, I'm having Dr. Noel take care of all my dental needs. read more

Que Bueno! My husband needed a crown replaced and we did our research. We'd heard good things about Dr. Rivas so we contacted his office prior to our annual trip to Puerto Vallarta and set up a consultation. My husband was immediately impressed by Dr. Rivas and his staff and scheduled the crown while we were in PV for the week. The procedure went so smoothly and everything was done so professionally that it was the same as if he'd done it at home. The cost was less than a third of the cost our California dentist was going to charge and the crown was replaced within the week. My husband discussed having an implant done in the future with Dr. Rivas and he plans to have it done in the spring. We would recommend him to anyone who needs any dental work! read more

Nice people but very poor quality work. I must be one of the unfortunate ones. Sadly... I trusted these people and I am in much worse shape than when I arrived to them. They still have my money and I gave them many hours and now have to pay thousands to fix what they did to me. In short, they lied about the materials they used in my mouth, left me for days with sharp objects that sliced up my tongue, tried to get away with the wrong sized abutments for the crowns and tried to cover that fact by using foul cement which still tastes bad 2 weeks later. Within days, one crown fell out, the other is so loose but has to be drilled through to remove properly and they left me with a non functional bite overall. I do not recognize my own mouth and am in personal distress and now have to go to someone to fix this mess. Additionally, they did not properly afix an onlay and the new X-rays show that they caused me more damage than good. Please sit in their chair at your own peril. Insist that they show you their plan and their materials and they they take post X-rays that requires them to stand behind their work. PLEASE... make sure they remove everything from your mouth, even if you are numb. Again... nice people (he came to my hotel to try to help) but something has gone wrong here and while I'm sure they had a good reputation, perhaps they are now taking advantage of this and are using cheaper materials and are not careful, leaving us to suffer. I'm sorry this happened and that I have to share this but I would not feel right if someone else got hurt like I did. I hope this can prevent anyone else from suffering by reading this and taking proper action. read more

I give FIVE STARS to PV Smile as a terrific dental office. Dr. Rivas is an excellent dentist, uses state of the art equipment, and the office is clean and friendly. Everyone speaks good English. I was given a thorough check up and deep clean by Dr. Alheli Gutierrez and the entire visit was absolutely budget friendly. She gave me all of my options and carefully explained everything I would need to go through if I wanted braces. I never felt rushed and I was in and out in 30 minutes.
