I have contacted Mr. Lester in person, via texts, and via email, and Mr. Lester has made appointments with me and never following through, ultimately costly me leave time at work. My wife, a disabled Army veteran, has fallen multiple times over their shady molding job, worsening her knee injury. I just want Mr Lester to have the same energy to finish my project correctly that he did when he wanted me to pay him initially. If he completes the project properly I will no longer have any ill will towards his business. This flooring project was supposed to be the highlight of our 2020, as we had saved and budgeted awhile for it. They are helpful people and showed up to my door step one day to inform us that a previous contractor we had hired to build a 48x40 garage with a full living quarters above had ordered the floor and roof trusses from them back in December (6 months ago).... but never paid for them. I want to leave Roberts Components a good rating because they are working with us to try and resolve this problem. But I would like to inform people who are looking for a contractor to build homes or remodel homes or needs roof work.... PLEASE DO NOT HIRE KEVIN EARL MCGHEE / McGhee Construction. He is a rip-off contractor originally from Hogansville Ga he now resides in the LaGrange Ga area. We paid Kevin McGhee approximately 105k in written checks for our garage build that was contracted for a total price of 125k. When our retaining wall cracked one month after it was built we got concerned and called to verify his Alabama Home Builders License only to be told by the state he is NOT licensed to build homes in the state of Alabama and he can not continue the work. I also called and verified at that time he did not hold a Home Builders License for the state of Georgia either.... We had to stop all work with this man and when we asked for a refund of our unused portion of our money approximately 80-85k we were told by Kevin McGhee he had spent all our money on our project and had no money to refund us. However the floor and roof trusses from Roberts Components were NEVER PAID FOR .... totaling approximately $13,000.00. Those were unpaid .... he had the money at the time they were ordered (December 31, 2017) to pay for them but he didn't..... I'm not sure where the money went..... He said to me that my money was out in my yard in the dirt and in the wall. I will attach pictures of the work preformed by Kevin Earl McGhee of LaGrange Ga / McGhee Construction so that you can see what we got for $105,000.00. We had several inspections done and the work he had done for our job totaled approximately 25-30k range.... not $105,000.00. This man has also ripped other people off in the past and even was sued. He has a criminal history and several bankruptcies, he has no assets that we can find and he is very hard to find as he only uses PO boxes for addresses.... Josh came by and gave us a competitive quote for the flooring, taking time to answer any questions. We had other quotes, some cheaper, but none of them matched the customer service of Cleveland Carpets. We waited 8 weeks for the install because we wanted to have Jim do ours floors, and he was booked out. We used Jim before to install floors upstairs, so we knew his work was top notch. Jim is a one man crew, who moved every piece of furniture himself, and put everything back in the exact same place. A few weeks later we had a door installed downstairs, and the contractor had to take up some of the carpet, which left a puffy area by the newly installed door. We called Cleveland, and Josh sent out a tech to reinstalled that area correctly. We asked how much and they said it's no charge. Who does that nowadays.
