They are very pleasant people, but not easy to deal with. Additionally, they are expensive. They charged me $140 to produce a single 1099-MISC, that I supplied all information for! Their new system and their demands became too difficult to deal with. Their questions seemed like audit questions rather than tax questions. And questions they should've asked about my taxes, they NEVER asked. They assume you know what should be submitted to them, and don't ask you any questions about what wasn't submitted. For example, in 2024 with the Mountain Fire in my neighborhood they should've asked about catastrophic losses. They know my address and know I live in the middle of many houses that were burned to the ground. They should've asked but never did. Fortunately, the question was asked for my 2025 return. Lack of competence or lack of leadership? Not sure which, but glad I switched.

Not only does he do all my personal returns, but he also handles the business for my office building in San Diego County, and he has always been the family CPA, for the past 25 years, more if you count his father, who was my mother's CPA before Michael took over. The most impactful episode with Michael was when I had to go through a 6-month IRS audit because we changed form of the office bldg from an S Corp to an LLC. Rec'd audit notice 2 weeks later!! Michael took us through the 6-month audit without it costing us one penny more to the IRS. Bring 3 years of back tax returns with you when you go, because Michael will probably get you some money back. There are no promises, of course, but Michael got refunds from $11,00-60,000 for people who had their returns done by accountants and even banks. He constantly attends seminars, and is up to date on the latest info re deductions and tax preparation. And he can also be your business manager. But be prepared: Michael is very frugal in his own life, and is totally into getting you to be more careful with your own expenditures. He may be on the high end with regard to fees, but remember that old saying: "You get what you pay for." You are paying for his very advanced knowledge and skills. You are not being taken advantage of; you are paying for the best. In any industry, there are A+ professionals and everything below. If you want A+, you want Michael. Caveat: Michael specializes in complicated or high-end returns, not lower end returns.
