That's right! Danish hot dogs are a tradition when walking on the streets of Copenhagen. You'll see them everywhere. Each hot dog stand may be a little different in that they use different brands of sausage or maybe different sauces. All I can say is that you can't go wrong with any of them.
This particular stand is located on the corner of Churchillparken and Esplanaden. It's across from the Museum of Danish Resistance as you're walking towards the Gefion Fountain. You can't miss it. There's always a crowd of people around it waiting to place their order.
We basically knew what we wanted. It was just a matter of deciding between the French, roasted, or boiled versions. The brand of hot dog served here is Steff Houlberg. We decided to go with the roasted (ristet) one. The man who I believe is the owner was very helpful. He told me to get a bunch of napkins. Not because it's a mess, but I'm pretty sure it's because it's given to you hot (like red hot off the grill). Lol! I thanked him for the warning. Haha!
We took our hot dogs over to a set of benches in the park near the museum. I'd say the ambiance was kind of nice as you're hearing the Gefion Fountain in the background and looking toward the beautiful scenery all around that area. The hot dog is exactly as described on travel shows. You get the crispy fried onions, remoulade, ketchup, mustard, chopped onions, and those sweet & tangy pickle slices. I'd put the Danish one right up there with a Chicago or New York hot dog any day. It may even be better. I didn't get to try any other stands to compare them, so I can't say this is the best Danish hot dog stand. You'll just have to try it for yourself. We found it at the perfect spot before heading to see the Little Mermaid. The timing was great. I wouldn't hesitate to choose this spot again if we ever find ourselves visiting this beautiful city in the future. read more
