We didn't learn about Vieux Carre' until our last night in New Orleans - big mistake, because we…read morehad been dropping money for mediocre bottles of wine from Walgreens and CVS for premium costs. We picked up a bottle of rosé and picked up some complimentary plastic cups for them. The prices are reasonable and the selection is aplenty. There's also a nice liquor selection, although we had just come in looking for wine. It was tempting. A lot of reviews reference making your own drinks here. This didn't happen for us - but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it existed. I'll have to take a closer look when I'm back. Next time I'm in town in the French Quarter (next week...), I'll be sure to stock up on my alcohol needs here! Don't be surprised to see me here in the next 7-8 days...

In all honestly, this is a three star beer, wine, and liquor store. It's fine. You probably have a…read moreplace like this in your town. Small and dated. Nice people. Reasonable selection, all things considered. It earns that bonus star by having several choices of regional beers sold by the can and chilled for $2.50. Even if you couldn't pour it into a cup and walk around the quarter with your beer, that's still a pretty good deal. Also, I was delighted they sold Herbsaint in small 200ml bottles. I'll confess to bringing my bottle back to the hotel, putting some in a plastic cup with an appropriate volume of water, and using that as my walking around town drink. Infinitely better (and more authentically NOLA) than the frozen slop that gets you sloppy. Anyhow, I'm sure to return to pick up some beverages whenever I'm back in town. It's a recommended stop for sure. Good stuff. Convenient location. Zero pretense.

As I was eating dinner here, my…read morepartner told me he saw an article that Nina Compton is closing this restaurant this coming Saturday (5/31/25). The space was nice. The service was attentive. The food was good enough. Would come back in the future if it were possible.

Nina Compton can always be counted on for tasty and unique flavors of her cuisine, I've dined here…read moremore times to count but I must say I was a bit underwhelmed this visit. The service was amazingly great as always so no issues there. We ordered the octopus as an appetizer which was tasty and flavorful, not to mention how tender it was. For our main entree' I had the Capellini shrimp pasta. It too was good and flavorful and the shrimp were a nice size but cut into bites within the pasta. My partner had the whole gill fish, which I don't recall what type of fish it was. The fish was cooked to perfection. Lastly, we ordered the chocolate cake ganache. The underwhelming feeling comes by way of portion sizes. The fish was just that, fish with a side of cherry tomatoes and the capellini was very shallow in the bowl. I understand with fine dining portion sizes are a bit smaller but it wasn't consistent to what I had experienced here previously. The cake wasn't a slice but crumbs. It literally was like taking the remaining crumbs from a sheet cake and garnishing it with mint leaves, drops of Nutella and a small taste of the toffee bites and ice cream . The waitress asked how everything was and I gave honest feedback. They were nice enough to take the chocolate cake off though not expected or requested but we were grateful for it. Overall the experience was good and the food and service was good, however it was a different experience from what I had encountered previously.
