I've lived in the area for years now, so when I saw an artisan pizza place pop up it definitely grabbed my attention. I absolutely had to give this place a try. When it comes to atmosphere this is a barn/shed off the side of the road on some gravel. No indoor or outdoor seating just a bench outside and a few chairs against the tin wall to sit and wait. You can either pick up your pizza or conveniently have it delivered for $2 if you're in the area. We got a large three topping pizza for $18. It came out hot and fresh loaded up with cheese and fresh toppings. With the generous fresh toppings, two slices and I was full. Definitely better than driving into Abilene to grab Dominos/Pizza Hut/any other to go pizza. I will say that this isn't like the artisan pizza experience that we have in Downtown Abilene, but definitely impressive for Tuscola, Texas. Excited to have a new place!

Pepperoni, black olive, green pepper. Looks good! Let's eat!

The...BEST...pizza I've had in a long time! I can't say I've ever had great pizza from a chain store. It's all edible, and even good, but just not great. To have great pizza, extra effort is required, and this place delivered in spades. When you arrive, it's just a metal building on the side of the highway. There's no dining room. It's take out only. When I walked in, I was greeted by Quinton, the owner. But I was 20 minutes early, their not open yet. I went back to the truck and was about to leave when he came out in the parking lot. "Don't leave, I'll make you a pizza." What a guy! He took my order, I went an ran an errand, and then went back. When I stepped inside, I could see my pizza bubbling in the big brick oven. Glenda and I have the same favorite pizza, pepperoni, black olives, and green pepper. When it came out of the oven, I fell in love. This was no chain pizza. It was beautiful! Am I sounding slightly crazy! Nope, I'm a foodie! As soon as I got back in the truck, I sat in the parking lot and ate a piece. DELICIOUS! After months of so-so pizza from so many different places, I have found Utopia! At least for pizza. I can't wait to try his Supreme, to experience true pizza gluttony. So, $18 will get you a large 3 topping pizza. Tuscola, please keep Quinton busy so he will stay in business. I'll certainly do my part. Thank you Quinton! I'll be back!

If you want a brick oven style pizza and homemade with the best sauce I've had in a long time, it's worth the drive from Abilene to see them.

We have been to Vagabond's numerous times. We are never disappointed. Highly recommend. By the way, their bread and butter is to die for. Hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

The last stop during my Abilene day trip was the wood-fire pizzeria Vagabond. We arrived at…read moreVagabond exactly at 6:00 pm, impressed by their cork decor outside the shop. We were immediately greeted by the server and seated just as quickly. The place was pretty busy, as one would expect on a Saturday at 6 pm, so it was great to be seated right away. The table was already set with two water cups, two plates, two sets of silverware, and two napkins, so we didn't have to set the area ourselves. Our server came shortly after with a large glass bottle of water and took our drink orders. My girlfriend got a bottled Dr. Pepper while I stuck to water. I also noticed they serve plenty of wines as well as a good selection of craft beers. They have ten different specialty pizzas, and we settled on their most expensive: the Carnivore. I say most expensive, but it was $20 for a pizza that fed two. It took about 10-15 minutes before the pizza came out, which is impressively fast. All pizzas are about 12 inches and are sliced into sixes. If you're hungry, consider an appetizer or a dessert, but to us, it was a perfect size with plenty of meat. The crust is thin and crispy, as one would expect from a wood-fire pizza. It was really excellent. For dessert, my girlfriend and I ordered their Saturday Morning Cartoons, which is a panna cotta with Fruity Pebbles that I enjoyed but she adored (I let her eat most of it). All in all, the meal was around $30 plus the tip I added. We were in and out in under 40 minutes, which was quite impressive for a sit-down pizza restaurant. I highly recommend this to anyone living in or visiting Abilene. P.S. My girlfriend wanted my Yelp review to note that their women's bathroom has hair ties, bobby pins, a Tide pen, and other items that you never know you'll need until you do, which gives Vagabond extra brownie points for going above and beyond. RIYL: An affordable meal for two.

It's time to update my review again. Brick Oven has made me really go back and forth on my opinion…read moreof them over the years. Is it the best pizza I've ever had, no. Although, it's a unique spot that a lot of people enjoy. A crisp, crunchy crust with fresh toppings! I still love their quesadillas! Really happy with their salad portion size and the almonds as an addition to the house salad. Price for the portion size and quality of their pizzas is still out of range in my opinion. I've had a lot of mixed feeling about their food over the years, and usually don't feel inclined to go back. Our waitress brought our check at the beginning of our meal and to go boxes as well, which is proactive of course, but we felt rushed and confused. We never got to even state that our checks were separate, not together. Our appetizer was brought after we received our meal which was stated to be a mishap with a new chef, but we were not asked if we even wanted it at that point. We were also charged the full price instead of the lunch menu price for it as it should've been. Honestly, it would've been honorary to not be charged for it at all under the circumstances. It was just strange. We all have our off days, but it just added to my distaste for Brick Oven. I wish I had a consistently great experience with them! Here's to hoping for better experiences! Maybe it's just not my cup of tea.
