Like a couple of other reviewers here just be careful about your damage deposit. We rented a motorbike there May 21 and I put up the $300 safety damage deposit. The lady working that morning said it could take up to 7 days. I said cool no problem. We return the bike on time and my cousin said they did not say anything about damage because nothing happened to the bike. I see that the money was taken out on May 23. May 31 comes along I email them and they promptly email me back saying it takes 7-10 business days. June 9th rolls around I still don't see my money back in my account from Quadstop so I call Tim. He promptly picks up and tells me he will call be back in the morning after getting my name and last digits of the card. Next day no call. I give them the weekend and on June 13th I email them and left a message on their voicemail. No response for a couple days. If you look at the timeline I have been more than patient. Now the last straw was not communicating back with me. Don't need to hear excuses I just want my money back. Now I can't even hear what excuse they have because they won't reply back to me. As stated be careful renting with them. Probably be better to give them the damage deposit in cash and have them give it back to you when you return their vehicles. Update: So they do read the reviews on Yelp. I got my deposit back on June 19th after receiving a message from Tim. As stated, just be on top of your deposit if you did not damage their vehicles because it could take a while. Besides that fiasco, the bike we received was in good working order and their location is literally across the street from the riding area. read more

Do NOT rent from this place!!! (Unless you want to lose your deposit!) I rented 4 quads on May 29th and had to give a $1,200 deposit ($300 per). I was told I would get my deposit back within 10 days. I returned the quads in the same condition as I rented them. No damage. On June 9th I texted owner TIM inquiring about my refund. He said he would look into it. So I waited. On June 15th TIM said that PAYPAL confirmed I should see my refund back within 3 - 5 days. Again, I waited patiently. It is now June 22nd and this company still hasn't returned my refund. I see other reviews where people have had the same unfortunate experience. Shame on me for NOT researching this company before I rented. Today I texted TIM again about my refund. I will update my review of this company as I hear from them. Update as of June 28th, 2016: Tim made it right and refunded my deposit back. Aside from that, everything was good. My recommendation is to follow up closely on your refund. read more

Jeremy was super helpful getting us set up with a rental. My dad was the one renting, but he also offered to add air to the tires on my own quad as well as borrow a whip as mine had gotten ruined. They have a wide variety to select from but I would recommended calling in advance to reserve the exact one you want. If you don't have gear they have that covered too. read more

Tim's a laidback guy, and that's probably the right attitude to have out in Ocotillo, the last place the government will come when taking away your guns. Anyhoo, Tim got us going on our paperwork, brought out some semi-auto's for us because he was worried the 100 degree weather would overheat the auto's, helped us size our helmets, gave us a map with some suggestions for a route, and set us off after a quick orientation...I'd argue that the orientation was *too* quick for first-timers like me and my friends, but we figured it out. The ride through the reserve was nerve-jangling but in the end, it was super fun. In lieu of Tim's short orientation, let me provide one for you Yelpers looking to ATV for the first time: - Bring driving gloves - weightlifting gloves will do too. That will help you avoid the blisters. - When picking out a helmet make sure you pick one with a visor, to provide extra shade - Wear shorts at your peril. Actually you should be fine in shorts as long as you don't try to drive over the shrubs which have thorns. - Bring a compass to avoid disorientation - ALWAYS BRING SUNSCREEN AND APPLY OFTEN - You can't start the engine until you're in neutral - the green light will signal neutral. Just press the ignition and you're off. - If you've stalled, get back into neutral by pedaling down but you should move your bike a bit - like trying to shift gears with a bike without moving, it won't happen. Moving the ATV will get you into the desired neutral gear when the engine cuts out. - To climb the sandy dunes, accelerate on steady land and don't hesitate otherwise you will get stuck in the sand - There is no shade until you get near the Gas Dome, if that is your destination. - The shop next to the cell tower is an excellent place to get ice and other cold drinks. Careful you don't get brain freeze! - Use the buddy system - don't go at it alone. It's easy to get disoriented when there's very little signage. - HAVE FUN!! Some things to still figure out: - How to go reverse - When and why I would ever use the front brake - How to not to have that ringing pain in my arms after a choppy ride. read more

I called shops in the area, and The Quad Stop was the only place that told me they rented fully automatic. The other places only said they rented semi-automatic or manual quads. Since this was my first time, I knew I wanted as few hurdles as possible, so I chose an automatic quad from The Quad Shop. Tim was great. He was professional and caring. We actually went a week after the initial reservation. He called me the day we originally were supposed to go to warn us of high winds and dust. So we went the next week. The quad was ready to go and in great shape. He took the time to help me pick the right helmet and show me how to use the quad. The shop is conveniently located across from the Ocotillo Wells airport and a few minutes by quad to the ranger station. It's very easy to get on your quad (or dirt bike or dune buggy - they rent those too), cross the street, and start your journey. The area around the airport is a great place for beginners to get comfortable on a quad. (I label myself as mechanically challenged, so I appreciated that.) Then it was a short ride to more challenging areas. Note for beginners or people new to riding in this area. It's easy to ride around and get back to The Quad Stop if you want to refuel (though I didn't need to with the quad) or get some food. If you want to take food or water with you, bring a light backpack. There are no places to store gear on the vehicles. Oh, and by the Ranger station, there is an enclosed track for children 12 and under. You can rent kids quads too at the Quad Stop. I saw a lot of children and young adults in the area. I would highly recommend Tim and the Quad Shop when you want to rent. read more

On 05/18/19 we were group of six people; We rented late afternoon around 2pm and needed couple hours desert good times with our buddies who already camped, we rented 2 ATVs, 1 four wheeler we came 30 min late while returning and we were charged not in the books money. While renting almost full price saying that "half day rentals are not encouraged". Also, noticed a bumper frame crack and enormous claims for fixes and took extra money for late arrivals. We took our kids (6 and 9) to ride quads for the first time this past weekend. My husband made reservations ahead of time for four quads. He tried reserving at the place next to Quadstop first, but he called four times and wasn't able to get a hold of them. It was easy to find - they're located right across from the airport (dusty strip of land is more like it). We had to wait a little while due to a line of people, but it wasn't very long and then they brought our quads out for us. The gentleman helping us was very thorough and took the time to explain to my kids how to use their quads. Soon we were all up and running and having a great time! I would have given them five stars, but the quad my son was using kept stalling whenever he stopped and it was very hard to get the quad to start again. Luckily, my husband is mechanically inclined and he was able to adjust the choke as needed to get it running again. We would definitely use them again - maybe next time we'll try the dirt bikes. read more

My wife and I came here for our birthdays. We showed up early and had no issues getting started right away. We had the morning 4 hour ride package and checking in was quick and simple. Tim gave us a brief demonstration on operating the ATVs, a map, and even suggestions on places we should stop for fun riding and nice views. There are so many acres to explore that half a day's ride is not enough. I wish I had chosen the all day package and do suggest it for any future riders. When my flag broke off we rode back to Quadstop and Tim was quick to replace it and send us back on our way. We are very pleased with his customer service and will definitely be back soon! read more

After the rental place next door turned us away, rudely saying they had no more rentals available for the day even after we bought vouchers and promised they would have plenty of ATVs available (no reservations), David understood our predicament and offered our group the same price we paid for the vouchers. We couldn't refuse this offer, since this was the third and final activity of the surf-snowboard-atv bachelor party. David gave us a quick brief on how to operate our ATVs. Had the greatest time with my daughter and her friends this weekend. Rented 6 Quads from Tim. He had the Quads ready to go when we arrived. The whole process went smoothly. I told Tim we were newbies and didn't know the first thing about riding. Tim provided easy to operate automatic Quads that were clean and easy to use. I called several rental places in Ocotillo to find a quad to rent. All the places had a voicemail and some did not call back. The owner of the Quad Stop called back right away, provided pricing and set up my rental on the spot. When I arrived to pick up my rental, it was all ready to go, on a trailer, and waiting for me. The owner set me up with helmets and all the information I needed. I had some trouble with the quad when I got to my campsite, but when I called the owner, he took care of the problem right away. I was referred here by a friend who had a great experience. I called about 10 days before my VERY FIRST trip to the desert and definitely wanted to rent a quad. The reservation process was very easy and the gentleman I was on the phone with was polite and answered all my questions. You tell him what you are looking for and trying to accomplish and he will set you up with just the right piece of equipment. Unfortunately I had some family stuff come up and I wasn't able to rent the quad anymore. I did have it reserved and I called him with plenty of heads up before the rental. After we discussed his policies we were able to work out an agreement and I will without a doubt rent from him next time I am able to go to the desert. When you call to book, ensure you understand all the rental policies such as not being able to ride them at night and his over night rental policy. They will work with you to ensure your trip is nothing short of amazing. Its a bummer I wasn't able to go. I was really looking forward to it. I love the very personal service you get with Quadstop. It really felt like I was renting from a friend and not someone that was just out for money. They will earn your business and believe me. If it is within his power he will work with you to make it right. Complete shit! Guy didn't have goggles or gloves with the rentals. Didn't check the bike for gas before renting it out to us for 2 hours and on rider ran out of fuel. When the remainder of the party got back to the Quadstop. Manager didn't even put forth an effort to make it out to the location we told him our less fortunate friend was stuck without fuel. As the sun set below the horizon he gave us a pamphlet to call the rangers to get him. So we jumped on one of the quads with a gas can and after 30 minutes we were able to bring him back. Safety, before total darkness came. Then the guy had the nerve to threaten to charge us for the time the bike was out there with no gas and the use of the quad to go give him gas. If we didn't give him 5 positive reviews on social media. The guy was a total price of work!!! Go elsewhere to rent dirt bikes or quads. I came in about 45 minutes before the store opened and was greeted by the owner who set me up with a great atv. We were in and out in under 15 minutes from showing up and out riding by 7:45am. Beware of this shady place. they will keep your rental deposit. when i checked my credit card statement a month later I found the charge for the rental deposit for 2 quads- $623. I was furious! I just let my credit card company take care of it for me, so I don't know if they ever got paid. And the helmets they give you are disgustingly dirty and stinky. No gloves either.They are super nice to your face but don't trust them as far as you can throw them. It must be their little scam to keep the rental deposit, so the customer doesn't know unless they see it on the credit statement. A lot of people don't look at the statement and just pay it. First time I rented from this place we checked in to rent our quad and the owner.. Tim didn't have our bike ready.. Even though we had a reservation. Second time giving the shop a second chance due to the location of the shop I referred a friend to rent there again and the quad would not start while we riding in the desert (several miles from where we were staying. We were stranded out in the desert. When we went to ride again later that same day after taking the quad to back to the shop the quad wouldn't start again! Overall this is poor quality atv's and poor quality customer service. When we went to address the problem with the owners I felt that we were treated rudely and without respect. read more
