Store has a large variety and amount of items to choose from. A couple days ago, I had cabin fever and really needed to get out of my apartment. I really enjoy my down time, but too much down time can drive this girl crazy. A forest preserve is my typical getaway, but on this particular Monday afternoon, it was raining outside. Not the lovely kind of rain, but the cold kind of rain that stings when it hits you and eventually ends up turning into beautiful snow. Being outdoors wasn't really an option. I also had five bucks in my wallet, which meant I couldn't go out to eat or to a store I love because I would be tempted to spend money I didn't have. What to do? Go somewhere where I know I won't spend money. Two places came to mind: a Disney store and Quake Collectibles. I visited both on this particular afternoon. Pop culture doesn't appeal to me. I never played video games. I didn't watch much television growing up. I don't collect action figures. Regardless of the rave reviews from friends about Quake, I knew it wasn't really my kind of store. But I still wanted to explore. I walked into Quake and.... WHOA. It's like childhoods exploded. There are toys and action figures EVERYWHERE -- on the walls, on the floors, in glass cases, and probably some hanging from the ceiling (hmm, I didn't look up). The Simpsons, LEGOs, Pokemon, Star Wars, and other such characters of film, television, and comic books. Some of the toys were brand new in the box and some were used and vintage. Some were giant (like that Chucky doll) and some were really tiny. A small collection of comic books stood on a counter and some vinyl records were in a box on the floor. The space is tiny and jam-packed. Nothing really seemed organized, but I assume the store is set-up in a messy sort of way to encourage people to look around more. The owner greeted me and was happy to show me around and answer any questions I had. I didn't have any questions, which was cool with him, and he left me to explore on my own, only checking once again while blasting some awesome music. I have to admit that nothing in this store really interested me (except this one plastic turkey toy that 'pooped' candy -- I swear, I almost bought that thing because I love candy and I'm immature & giggle about poop, but then I realized I had no money), but as I said earlier, this isn't my kind of place. HOWEVER. It is awesome that such a place exists in Schaumburg for people who like to find affordable and unique action figures from the past. You're bound to have more fun here than walking the toys aisles of Target or Goodwill. Fo sho. Toys R Us ain't got nothing on Quake. read more

Nice vintage collectible toys store. Good oeicws and negotiable. In a strip mall but dont let that fool you

It's a great little find tucked away in the corner of a strip mall. You can see the blizzard of colors inside from the parking lot, it's like peering into a box of fruity pebbles. Inside, the only thing they don't have is a square inch not covered by something. Bins and boxes, old action figures, play sets, Star Wars figures both carded and loose . I had (still have) a pretty decent Star Wars collection. There were figures I didn't even know existed. I walked around saying " I had that! I had that!" My wife and I bought an old fisher price boat, about 10" little people" to go with it for our 5 year old, a few record albums and a comic book, spent $40, but worth it. It's very close to my work, I will have to be careful or ill go broke. One thing to keep in mind, these are used items, some in pristine shape, some beat up. It looks like it mostly comes in right from people's garages or basements and goes right on the shelf. Please don't expect clean, polished items. Those aren't fun anyway! read more

This is a small store with a massive inventory of toys, action figures and vehicles from the 1980s and 1990s. The store has wall to wall, floor to ceiling figures everywhere. It's quite impressive to walk around, browse and admire all of the toys of your childhood for sale here. If you happen to be in the area and are looking for a unique place to shop this is definitely worth your time. The owner is friendly and will even take a list and seek out toys you might be looking for if he doesn't have them, how awesome is that? if you're looking for super hero action figures this is the place to go with tons of Marvel, D.C. and other brand figurines this is the place to go. A good portion of their inventory are brand new figures on the original cards hung nearly everywhere throughout the store. They do have some loose figures throughout and a glass showcase where some of the more valuable merchandise is kept. Overall this is easily the best stocked store of this type I know of in the area. While a few other places such as Alien Entertainment in Lombard, and a place called Reel Art in Berwyn have decent selections of vintage toys. Quake collectibles blows them out of the water. Holy sh!t balls...Santa Claus is real and he opened a store front in Schaumburg. However you can call him Aaron K. For the last 28 years I have had to live with the guilt of never finding the G.I. Joe action figure "Quick Kick". Imagine a husky young Dre age 5 living with the feeling of being blind in a dark room and searching for a door that didn't exist. Well thanks to the Quake Collectibles and Candice G's awesome idea to visit this store, I was connected with my youth. Upon walking in I noticed all the action figures from every genre. Immediately I dove into the G.I. Joe box and like any good partner in crime Candice followed with no questions asked. "Pull all the Asian ones out you find" is what was going through my head as I searched for the 28 year missing piece of the puzzle. No luck though. Out of no where I hear them old school PSA commercials Hasbro use to do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bydlw7KCcwg and I glanced up on a shelf. Cha-ching there he was standing in perfect form, no scratches and geared up. I asked the shop boss to wrap him up. Yes you can absolutely spend hours in this store. If you're looking for toys from the 80's & 90's, Quake is the place! This place is overflowing with toys...to the point where when you try to pick one up, you may knock three others over. They have quite the variety of items, and although I only spotted 1 Doctor Who item behind the counter, they actually had several Doctor Who goodies. So fellow Whovians, just ask & Aaron will help you find 'em. They also have far more used toys/collectibles vs. pristine in the box, but they have those too if you are one of those folks who denies your toys their proper freedom & keeps them cooped up. The owner is very nice & happy to help you locate something specific among the mounds of toys and his prices seem fair to me. I don't want to say I got drunk at 2pm on a Monday and spent an undisclosed amount on a figurine that's a child-sized (meaning the size of a child, not meant for a child) version of Han Solo riding a Tauntaun, because that would be both irresponsible and unprofessional, but I guess I'd have a hard time arguing against that timeline of events. Sooo let's call a spade a spade and get this 5-star review on the road. This business just opened off the main drag of yet another Schaumburg-area strip mall this past March and has somehow managed to go unnoticed by yelpers until now. No worries, though. Just get your bookmarking fingers ready and know that the next time you go to buy your kid or husband or really cool girlfriend or whoever a gift that they probably will only mildly appreciate from Woodfield Mall, you could go 5-8 minutes down the road and get them something really f*cking cool from Quake. Mostly figures both in and out of the box, this store would likely still garner the approval of Comic Book Store Guy with a small collection of not only comic books, but records (see also Return of the Jedi soundtrack), collectors cards (ahem, New Kids On The Block and Little Shop Of Horrors), posters and more. Tons of tiny, little pieces of my childhood staring back at me, the hair on my arms -- maybe even mustache, too -- stood on end in a moment of pure, unadulterated jubilation. When I'd walked in the owner was setting up a battlefield with all the various old school editions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with all the usual suspect bad guys, and a few lesser knowns as well, while U2's Twist and Turn Away played on the system to my further delight. They're definitely heavy on the Star Wars stuffs, but as the back seat of my car (currently harboring said Han riding a Tauntaun figure) will tell you, there ain't nothing wrong with that. And it's because of that, that my apartment now has a new mantlepiece (still sans mantle) with handsome Han and his trusty Tauntaun steed... although my partner isn't quite as keen on it. I'd initially planned on only buying one item (a surprise birthday gift for a friend) and coming back to show my boo the Han item and convincing him on the spot that we needed it, but then when I saw the 'No returns or exchanges' sign on the wall by the register, a devious lightbulb went off in my head (plus I was pretty buzzed from the single beer that I'd drank around the corner at Frato's really fast) and I thought: F*ck it! As I looked into tiny figurine Han's glimmering eyes through the original packaging and decided to buy that f*cker right then and there because I'd mind the getting scolded by my partner for purchasing such an item much less than knowing I was living my life without that giant figurine. And while the figurine might have been more than my partner would've wanted me to spend on a "doll", the look on his face when he saw the ridiculous thing I'd just bought mixed with the sound of him immediately saying 'This is going back' ... then a moment later, "this isn't returnable is it?" was worth every red cent mixed with the natural high of being unnofficially inducted into the retail rebel alliance on a Monday afternoon. Quake Collectibles is kind of like an antique store for figurines and stuff. Mostly figurines, but there's also vinyl records, plush toys, and light sabers. Really random stuff that nobody REALLY needs. Some of it is valuable now and some of it will be worth more in a decade or two. It's a super small shop and quite jam packed with toys and ish. The shop keeper is friendly (if not nerdy). He knows his wares. For example, he told me that ET stuff flies off the shelves. I bought nearly all of his Yoda dolls (two of them) and a Luke. Being a complete action figure collecting dork, I've known about Quake for years. I've visited their downtown location a few times, but unfortunately it's kind of a trek to get out there, especially if you're taking the train. So I was thrilled when I found out that they were opening a suburban location so I don't have to spend an entire day getting to the place anymore. I stopped by recently to check out the new place and it feels just like the downtown one. My problem was probably the fact that I was looking for a particular figure; a Marvel Legends figure, and they didn't have it. They only had a handful of Marvel Legends figures in the whole store, and the owner didn't really seem like he knew much or cared much about them. The organizational system of the store is a lot like a messy garage sale. Everything, while neatly stacked, is completely disorganized. Toy lines are not grouped together and there is just SO. MUCH. TO. SEE. You can spend hours looking through all the stuff they have. There's Batman next to X-Men next to Strawberry Shortcake next to...everything else you can imagine. Problem being, if you, for example, want to look for vintage He-Man figures, you have to search high and low throughout the entire store to find them because they're literally EVERYWHERE. I think they could benefit from a little more cohesion and less chaos. Overall it's cool, especially if you're not looking for anything specific. But to those of us going in with a purpose, it's more pain than pleasure. This location seems to specialize in vintage GI Joe, wrestling, and 80s/90s action figures, with a few sprinklings of newer things mixed about. This location is a joke , the fuy puts prices that if the toy was brand new or near new .. every single toy is damaged and i mean that by saying the plastics are dented and or cardboard peeling come on lol and prices still as if there was no damage to the packages .. and then what cracks me up is he got crappy music on and then even will go into a back door of some sort and come back out and start convos and popping peanuts in his mouth while chewing and talking at the same time . Very cool store however , there is not a lot of room to move around , there was an older gentleman I assume to be the owner who was a jerk . Was talking to his employee about punching women in the back of the heads if they knocked over his toys and how women complain men can't hit girls . He then proceeds to his employee ( while myself and my family are in the shop looking around) about kids who knock over his toys and was mocking a parent who's very young son pulled a toy from the bottom row . Very unprofessional and seemed liKe a complete asshole. You do NOT speak that way in front of customers . He basically didn't give a hoot we were listening. A good assortment of cheap-o records to scour through and more classic records to think about dropping a few extra bucks on so that you don't have to go to 4 more garage sales this summer looking for it at slightly more affordable prices. I used to like this place until I was scammed by the Owner Aaron. I recently set an appointment to do a sell some things consisting of unopened GI JOE merchandise that I already researched and found it valued at over $750. Aswell as over 62 good condition vintage Gi joes that I know would sell between 5 to 10 a piece at Quakes, so value would be atleast 250 to 300 dollars. I conversated with the Owner to set a meeting for the products to be seen. Unfortunately I am handicapped so being mobile is limited, so I had a family member meet with Aaron to conduct business. Which it was discussed that Quakes would give me $300 in cash and store credit or more depending on researched value of products. I have already done the research and total value was $1,105.00. The owner Aaron lied to my family member saying the agreement was only $300.00 . No mention of store credit to my family. I used to think this was a nice store but now I see, it's very dishonest, and takes advantage of minorities, women,mentally and physically challenged people. I will take my business else where. It's pretty cool to find a shop like this in the 'burbs (there is a Quake in the city too) that's got a ton of merchandise in stock.The staff is knowledgeable and know their product very well. I went here a few weeks back, and everything was super cool. It's messy, but a good messy. You can still find everything since it's decently organized by type. The issue I have is that I was tricked, lack a better term, into buying a Joker action figure. I'm not stupid, but I don't know every single thing that's out there and he seemed pretty confident in his words. He told me that the masked version was different than the regular version of said figure, so I obliged - even though I already owned the regular version of the figure. I started asking my nerdy Facebook groups, and apparently the mask was Scarecrow's. There's 25$ down the drain. Moral of the story, do very thorough research before purchasing from here. So I don't normally post reviews. Quake in Schaumburg is the exception. First, and to make this quick, all the five star reviews are spot on. It is a truly cool place to shop. I went there to find some vinyl records for my brother and the selection was perfect. But another Yelp reviewer put it more eloquently... It was like I had just stepped back into my childhood in an amazing way. So it was dreary and snowing outside and I walked in the Pixies was the first thing I heard. I looked up to see every toy I could have ever imagined owning as a kid and I just smiled. I let the owner know what I was looking for and with pressing me he just pointed me in the right direction. Quake has a collection of vinyl that isn't huge, it just represents the 60's-2010's nearly perfectly. And he just left me alone to look. But here's what else happened. There was another customer who I presume was a vintage toy collector in the store. As I was looking through what I wanted to purchase, I hear the following exchange with the owner... Sir, feel free to step behind the counter to get a better look. I'm here to answer any questions you have, and then he throws on a Joy Division song and leaves the guy alone. No one does that in retail, and I have been in the biz for 20 years. The atmosphere is chill to say the least coupled with the excitement of seeing items from your past that will absolutely blow you away. So by the time I had picked out my records the owner and I had chatted and I let him know I was a bit on a budget. And this is where I was blown away. I had picked out 10 albums in differing price points. He looks at 5 of the more spendy ones and gives me a huge deal. I didn't ask for it, he just knew and that made my week. And the 11th album I picked made us both laugh so if you know anyone into vinyl he told me he had a few more. COMPLETELY worth calling the store to grab..... If you are in to cool vintage toys and vinyl, take the time and shop at this store. The owner didn't know I drove 2 hours to get there, but I can tell you it was worth the trip. read more

Quake needs a bigger place for their huge variety of toys. Things were all over the place and stacked on top of each other. I felt I couldn't even touch anything in fear something would fall with all that was around. I was thinking something different when i went in, thinking it was an all new store which i was wrong. It was a nice blast from the past to see all the old toys/items as well as some new items. I am sure if there is a an old toy you are looking for or an old McDonald's toy, they would have it. My wife and I have lived in Schaumburg for 10 years and just found this awesome collectible shop today!! As soon as we walked in I knew this place was special because there were carded and loose action figures all over the walls! It was like walking into a maniac collector's private collection room which had a little bit of everything! I told my wife that this is a "honeyhole" for collectors and curious onlookers who want to see pop culture in the form of action figures layed all over for all to see and buy. Highly recommend for anyone looking to pick up a rare loose or carded figure from the 70's to 2014 and the great thing is it's free to walk in and gawk! read more
