Absolutely horrible hotel and service during our 10-day stay in May 2026! Housekeeping only came once and that was not really an adequate cleaning (they left our room door open that day!). Had to get towels and toilet paper from front desk. Breakfast was hit and miss each day. Reached out to General Manager, Jay Patel, outlining the many issues during our stay. Rooms are dirty, place is a mess, sheets are stained, dirty nasty rooms. Save your money

Be very careful with making a reservation with this hotel, either directly or via ChoiceHotels.com. I had an experience where I made a reservation for one night, cancelled it a month ahead of time, and was still charged for my stay. To make matters worse, the folio invoice for the night I allegedly stayed in my cancelled room indicates that a member of the staff checked "me" out -- even though I shouldn't have had a reservation anymore and I was hundreds of miles away. I suspect there may be some fraud at work. Meanwhile, Choice Hotels is not making this any easier. Their offshore customer service is insisting I had multiple reservations, even though my cancellation e-mail is proof that I cancelled the night for which I was charged. (The phantom duplicate reservation they claim I made was ironically not charged to my credit card and was not cancelled -- and of course I never made it in the first place.) Oddly, my credit card was charged 3 times and refunded twice. Very strange. Choice Hotels is unfortunately giving me the runaround, so I've had no choice but to dispute the charges with my credit card company. This is all very sad, because other than these shenanigans it's not a bad hotel property. The rooms are fairly nice and the staff is friendly. But given the fraud and mismanagement of the reservations system, I don't believe I can stay here again. read more

The Comfort Inn in Grinnell is perfectly fine for what you pay. For $120/night after taxes, I got a clean and quiet room with a comfortable King size bed (though the pillows leave something to be desired). The alarm clock worked well, the TV was a large flatscreen with HBO and limited other channels, the desk chair was cheap but fine, and I appreciated the comfortable couch-like chair and ottoman. The bathroom was spotless and huge with plenty of towels and fine-enough water pressure. I enjoyed my window (that could open!) view from the 3rd floor, although if you're a light sleeper you might want to request a room in the back of the hotel because you can definitely hear car traffic through the night (I sleep like a brick so it was no problem). They have coffee round the clock in the lobby and there were often cookies as well when I went by. The wi-fi works well. I didn't check out the pool, but used the "fitness center" a few times. I put it in quotation marks because really it's a small carpeted room on the first floor with one treadmill, one bike, one elliptical, one weight machine, and a TV. It served it's purpose. Everything worked, they had a little water container and towels, and I enjoyed that I could control the A/C unit. I suppose my only annoyance was that when I checked in I asked for a slightly later checkout, and was told i would have to ask the morning of. I asked the night before and again, the kid working the counter kind-of stared at me blankly and told me he didn't know what to say. It was awkward to the extreme. The purpose of having a later checkout is so you can get some more sleep, so asking me to ask the morning I wanted to check out kind of defeated the purpose. But, ultimately, I called down to the desk at 9am to ask and the woman I spoke with was pleasant and immediately accommodating, so I went back to sleep until 10, got my exercise in, and checked out at noon. Oh, also, there was what looked like a cigarette burn in my comforter on the bed, but whatever, right? If you're traveling for business or visiting someone in Grinnell, this place is A-Ok. read more

My experience with this place was mixed. Overall, it was good, but it was pricey enough that I am going to be critical. For $80+ a night for the cheapest rooms, I expect more than this. This place may be nice, but it gets only 3 stars because of value. The first complaint is that the walls were extremely thin, more so than in other cheaper motels I've stayed in. The room looks deceptively nice but the sound comes right through. The neighboring room had a baby that kept crying, and I could hear it like it was almost in my room. My second complaint is the water. I've had the water elsewhere in Grinnell, IA, so I know it is peculiar to this hotel and not just the town. The water leaves your hands feeling slimy no matter how long you run them under water, and I felt like it also dried out my skin. Also, the shampoo had a nasty chemical smell to it. The decor was also very sterile and plain. The room felt sleek and corporate, not homey and comfortable. I did not like the aesthetics. In my opinion, I'd rather stay in a cheap motel. I prefer the extra $20-30 in my pocket at the end of the day, and I can deal with outdated fixtures in the bathroom and a smaller room with ugly decor, because those things don't make or break the stay. And in my opinion, this place fails on a couple of points that do matter. Honestly I think this motel had the worst decor of any place I've stayed in yet. read more

I checked in on 11/19/17 by the manager Jay. I was given room 101 because it was a pet friendly room. When I went to unlock the door the deadbolt was locked to keep the door open as if someone was already in the room. I went back to the front desk to ask about this and Jay said the cleaners had just left that room and they must have left it unlocked. (It was 6ish at night.) Shortly after check in I noticed that the corner of the bed had been pulled up though the rest of it was made perfectly. It seemed out of place and again thoughts of someone having been in the room prior to me crossed my mind. I went to bed and at 1am woke up with bed bugs on me! My thoughts are someone was in the room before me and noticed them, which is why the door was open and corner of the bed disturbed. I captured one in a tissue and called the front desk. The woman working didn't know what to do and explained she would call the manager (Jay) to see about refunding my money. I quickly showered and left the hotel in the middle of the night. I was told Jay would call me in the morning to arrange my refund and to speak with me. I left my name and number with her prior to leaving. I never received a call about my refund or offered any type of apology by management for the bed bugs. I had booked through hotels.com. The ratings on this hotel were good. Hotels.com called the Quality Inn and spoke to the woman working the front desk. She confirmed my story and explained that for any refund I would have to speak to her manager in the morning. I frequently use hotels.com so they refunded my money spent on the room without waiting to speak to the manager, Jay. I had paid $15 cash when I checked in for a pet fee. Since this had nothing to do with hotels.com they did not refund this and it's the responsibility of the manager who won't return my call. Beware of this hotel! It has bed bugs and the reviews online are not accurate. read more

One recommendation, if they are all out of non-smoking rooms don't go into the smoking rooms, the smell is horrible. This might be obvious but it's really bad smelling lol. Other than that we've had great service from the house keepers and staff! Pillows are comfy ;) read more

Terrible experience here. We stayed for 13 days and upon checking out at 10am, there was a note at the desk to call a number since nobody was at the desk. We called the number and were told to leave our keys along with email address and we would be checked out. We received an e-mail and found that we were charged an extra day. We called to ask why and the manager, Jay, became very angry and said that he would not refund the money. We called choice hotels and hotels.com and both agreed that we were overcharged. Both called him and both told us that he yelled at them and hung up on them. We spent a lot of money there and did nothing to deserve being treated this way. Besides that it's a dump. Just ick. Booked through travelocity and the pictures are deceiving. Looks nice, but as soon as we walked in the front door, I could tell this wasnt the same place I saw pictures of. There was no one else in the place, it was 6 pm, the front desk clerk saw us walk in and didn't bother to greet us and made us wait while she screwed around in the back room. Finally she came to the desk, again didnt greet us, but just stared, waiting for me to tell her what i wanted. Got checked in and went to our room which was disgusting. It smelled like mold and mildew, was freezing, and when we turned on the heat, the most awful smell came out. The ceiling was caving in in two places, and I was seriously scared we would catch some disease or be covered in bedbugs from the place. The staff here are amazingly wonderful. Ashley from the front desk is an absolute Sweetheart. The room was clean. I booked my stay via Trivago and Hotels.com on the same day as traveling. So, I only paid for a single standard room, but stayed in a suite with a king size bed for the same price as a single standard room. The establishment is full, but all very quiet. The pool and hot tub are well maintained. They also have access to a washer and dryer if need be. Free breakfast is also included. I would stay again. read more

Horrible management and service.. they say one thing and do what's best for them.. the customer is always last. I was passing through this town and I was tired.. I ended up getting a room at 8:30am... but before I got the room they told me I was early to check in but if I paid an early check-in fee I would be good.. I told them it's fine since I was Soo tired... I was charged $80 dollars.. I couldn't sleep much since their was noise all over but noon came around and I was getting a call and someone was at my door, asking if I was staying an extra day ???... I was shocked at what was happening and why I'm being woken up after 3.5hrs of me being there.. the lady tells me that I would need to leave or pay for another day, and I was being charge that amount since I signed off on a paper that said I would leave that morning.. 3.5hrs later ??.. mind you I was up for 24hrs and I wanted to sleep.. I tell her I would never pay that much money to stay somewhere for 3.5hrs and she kept telling me oh well you signed the paper and we are charging you... I tell her why would I pay an early check-in fee then ?? And she didn't have an answer... I tell her that it's not acceptable to treat customers like that and that I've gone places before and me getting there early or late didn't affect things if you had rooms available... I told her "if I checked in that room at midnight they wouldn't of charged me half the room price since I didn't get the room for the full day??.. she kept defending her stance and telling me that she would of paid $80 dollars to stay somewhere for 3.5hrs... I was definitely unhappy with the experience and how the manager had no resolutions and she only kept wanting to fight the situation.. all I wanted was to sleep.. I didn't get to sleep and i literally didn't touch anything in that room besides the bed. read more

If i had to summarize hotel experiences this was probably one of my least pleasant hotels stays. Our room was humid and hot due to no working AC and there is no place at all in the hotel to get drinking water besides ice and the faucet. We came as a team and I had teammates complain of lingering bras from other guests in their room when they came. There was even a complaint about a bug being found in someones room. read more
