We were ahead of schedule to end up in Illinois, so we booked an overnight stay here. We've been staying at truck stops and on BLM land, so this was a welcome change. The amenities astounded me! This is officially my first "glamping" experience! Full hookups, fishing pond, grassy, shaded dog park, 1 mile trail and 30 miles of adjacent trails, laundry, showers, and so much more. We reserved a site specifically with a patio that had chairs and a fire ring but realized that the sewage setup was encased in tall concrete and not ideal for our RV. They let us change sites and still use the patio, which was very generous as so few sites had them. We didn't do KOA earlier because we couldn't make the check-in windows of operating hours (office closes at 5 pm). However, the owner told us we can arrive at any time and there is an honor system to pay: we can leave our credit card info or pay in the morning. Unlike most other KOAs, this one doesn't have a gate code to get in. It rained and thundered while we were here, and it was beautiful. The ground is covered with rocks and grass, so paws and feet did not get muddy. Overall, I was so pleased with our stay that I downloaded the KOA app for the trip home. Pros: - full hookups - AC in shower room - super friendly - very dog-friendly - kid-friendly too: game room, outdoor toys, jump pad, swimming pool, basketball courts, playground etc - app for reservations - inexpensive (we paid 75$ on 7/23/25) vs a hotel for 3 adults and 2 big dogs - wifi - regularly mowed trail - camp store purchases can be charged to the site - large trash cans Cons: - a bit close to the highway, some noise - sites are very close together (separated by a strip of grass) read more

Positive and negative thoughts: Nice enough place for a KOA. Genny was friendly and very helpful checking in. Escort was fine. Larger than it looks. Easy on/off Highway 80. Clean... have active ground keepers running around. Pool was open, small store for forgotten supplies. Fishing pond is a good size as well. Looks hilly upon driving in, but gravel spaces are level. The hook ups are reasonably placed towards the back end of Coach. Some spaces have larger yards. Our space (#37) was a little close to neighbors but we had no trouble with our 43 ft Class A in a pull-thru. We were on the last row and the negative would be... the Highway noise. It's constant. Day and night. Don't sleep with your windows open ! Other than that....nice place. read more

They will charge your card without your permission over and over again for Random shit and if you don't LOOK like you have money they will kick you out making excuses about not allowing more then 5 days to camp even tho we saw multiple people there longer then us and came back and looked the next day and they were still happily camping there also booking allows 14 days and then extended stay ... working on a law suit for money they also refuse to explain they took out during the time we had our card on to use it elsewhere the coowner Jeff said he would email me back about and has been almost 2 weeks and still have heard nothing read more

Very well maintained. The family sites back right up to the playground, which was very convenient. Staff were friendly. Beautiful campsite. I'm surprised this is considered a Journey KOA because it definitely has all the amenities. The only negative was that it sits right next to the freeway, so you hear the noise from the road. My experience at this KOA was terrible. Would never stay here in the future and would discourage other as well. Here's why: The manager or host at this place is horrible. I arrived late night but she didn't bother to contact me about where I can find my site details. We couldn't get to our campsite and camped at another site. The manager seemed racist and disrespectful. She would also smoke all the time, even while in office talking to you. Apparently, KOA is supposed to be non-smoking place. In COVID times, she was not wearing mask at all the time. There was no trash can anywhere. The WiFi was not working. Overall, this KOA managed to screw my vacation up. Technically, I can sue this KOA but who would waste time dealing with such a pathetic people. Basically, stay away from this place if you want a pleasant experience. read more

We are traveling from CA to OH and had to stop for the night. We called and they obliged us right away. There is a specific breed dog policy and do to this we usually have a difficult time finding resorts to take us. We were only staying one night and I explained the training my dog had had plus was willing to abide by any restrictions they wanted to place on us. The manager made an exception and we were able get a beautiful end spot by the dog park under beautifully matured trees with lots of shade. I love parks with large trees. I would recommend this KOA. Great people and friendly They love dogs and it shows. We are very pleased and appreciate their trust in us. read more

We stopped for an overnight stay on a cross-country trip. The grounds are very nice; amidst the pandemic, the bathrooms/showers are available and very clean. The staff is great - we're very thankful for the service. Our site was a gravel pad with grass and picnics table on one side. Many sites have tree shelter, which is fantastic. Tips: I can't underscore the noise from the interstate road traffic. We kept our windows closed and fan on in an effort to abate, and we still heard it all night. Be aware. Also, even though the sites are hard-packed gravel, we still needed quite a few leveling blocks to level our trailer - come prepared. read more

Staff was extremely friendly and helped change our reservation to a day earlier to accommodate us. The campground is a bit tight, so campers are placed very close together to maximize the number of sites. As a business own I'm sure this is a tough balance to make money, however the next door neighbors picnic table was only 2 feet away from our camper (see photo). It wasn't that close because they had much of a choice, the sites are just very narrow. The patio sites are equally as narrow, and have a brick patio area, however they could use some refreshing. Additionally the patio sites do not have the typical gas grills that most have. These sites do have an upgraded fire pit, but in my opinion not worth the extra money. The grounds are well kept, there was a nice playground, a pool, and bounce pad. Showers were clean as well. The campground is located next to the highway so expect highway noise. We were in a pull through site about 40 yards from the highway, which was a bit closer then I would have liked to be. Even in a very well I dilated Motorcoach, it was extremely loud. If you're looking for a quick overnight, don't mind crowded sites, and a bit of road noise, you would find this acceptable. read more

Stayed here for the weekend and kinda mixed on how I feel about it. First, as many have posted, the pool is being repaired so call ahead if that's your thing. Two, as many have posted, you are next to Highway I80. There is noise but we're in a small RV and didn't find it bothersome. There is a wonderfully maintained 1 mile trail through the woods and a large pond for fishing. Today, there was free breakfast but we didn't know about it until 9:30am and had already eaten... I don't think they do this each Saturday so ask at checkin. The small store had lots of fun stuff. And loads for kiddos - bounce pad, playground, water castle and train rides around the park. Yes, all the staff we encountered were super friendly. There is also 25 cable channels and free Wi-Fi. The restrooms are OK. There was one mens stall shower. Then another two open side by side like gym class. You are super close to Newton which has about everything you could want. The drawbacks... it's expensive at $72 (with tax) a night... and the worst... you have literally 4-6 foot glass strip between campers. We are hoping to not get neighbors as our awning would touch their RV. The KOA in Waterloo runs about $52 for the same hookup. Not many campers when we stayed but it fills at night. I suppose from overnight travelers. I just don't see us coming back due to the cost and closeness. Oh, BTW, great open tent areas. read more

Very friendly employees, clean laundry room with good working machines, small store but had just the things we needed. I loved the playground they had for the kids there was so much for them to do. The camp ground however was near the highway and we could still hear the highway sound at night with the air conditioner and fans on. At first it bothered me but I eventually got used to it and slept well. If his bothers you take some ear plugs and extra fans and you'll be fine. read more

Beware big rigs, motor homes and Fifth wheel travers. Newton RV Park in Newton Iowa has new sites that are "TOTALLY NOT READY FOR USE". LET ME EXPLAIN 1. Sites are not level 6-8" lower at one end. The low end is where your front Door and steps are (front of coach)You will have a 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 foot drop to the ground from your bottom step. 2. Crushed rock for road and sites 1-4" diameter. Not easy to walk on. The sites are new and it had rained. My HWH levelers Sunk 4" into the rock and mud 3. No grass 10" tall weeds and mud we'll be cleaning for 3 days 4. The lower level sites are typical KOA Gravel and grass "acceptable" 5. The office staff is very accommodating Just no answers to the problems 6. Worst $57.20 nite we ever experienced read more

While this place has a great staff, many amenities, and is close to a great small town full of restaurants, bars, and shopping,, you are right NEXT to the freeway! Even in a back lot I do not believe the noise would be muffled out. Otherwise, nice park. read more

Well, we've been traveling across the states, going to different campgrounds, national and KOA grounds and tenting it. Most of the KOA's we've gone to have been good, if not great. This one, not so much. It's run down, a bit overgrown. Kinda in a bad spot right next to the wonderful noise of the freeway. Play yard for the kids was dated and rickety. Felt bad for my son, but he made the most of it, and the old broken toys lying around in the overgrown sandbox, and had fun. The "game room" only has a foseball table in it. Nothing else that the picture shows. The worst was going to take a shower and finding that, not only did it take forever to warm up(and it was cold outside), but when i turned the water on, the "shower head", squirted in two opposite directions, in two spray like misters! Awe man. It was so hard to wash myself and my 3 year old son. Again, I felt bad for him and probably still had soap in my hair from trying to wash us off completely with two little streams. The pipes were clogging, so the water was stopping up and rising in the shower. Bad enough it's a public shower, but dirty, hairy, AND the water is creeping up your legs as your trying to get "clean". Will not recommend this place. They need to give it a face lift and tummy tuck in all areas! This said from someone who does camping with outside showers at times. It was pretty yucky. read more
