After a full eight days and nights, as Hurricane Florence continued to pose a serious threat -- she really never made her presence known. We thought it wise to set for higher ground, battening down the hatches. Our room was what one who stayes at mid priced hotels would come to expect, minus the packaging. The minus -- four days with no eggs for breakfast, leaving only old and cold cereal, cheap breads and the highlight that lost its light quickly, waffles. Eggs come in a bag, your not hand picking them, get it together and order ahead. I never opted for room service as I'm into clean space, but it was very on schedule thru it all. The fine folks that worked for the hotel all wete five star employees in my book. Plus, I got barked at for throwing the big dog in the pool for 1 quick in and out.. nobody else was there, an employee told me it was alright, as I asked first. read more

The room was dirty. The bed covers were dirty and stained. Glad I didn't have Gordan Ramsay's black lights to check fluid stains! The floor obviously had not been mopped or cleaned in a very long time. Would have asked to see a different room or gone to a different hotel, but this was the one my employer booked and any changes would not be reimbursed. It's been a year since I stayed here. My room was comfortable, which is quite a statement since the area was experiencing heat indexes of 105+ while I was there. The staff is very pleasant. I had a envelope tucked under my door and addressed to me. Inside was a thank you card with the manager's business card. I stay in Choice Hotel properties most of the time, and this note was a first, and very appreciated. If you are vacationing in Charleston, you will find better rates vs being in Charleston if you stay here. You will be 20-40 minutes away from most of the tourist attractions though. read more

Stayed June 26 and half the nite June 27. Hotel is located next to a railroad crossing so expect to be woke by the train or the fact it's a pet friendly hotel and we found out the hard way. Comforter had what appeared to be blood stains that I didn't notice til after the spider the size of a quarter in my bed Sunday morning. See pics of spider. I took the spider to the manager in an ice bucket. No discount , no refund. We went to the beach Sunday, took showers that nite and drove home. At first site the room and location seemed to be okay. I was gone most of the day but when i came back, I went straight to my room and did not leave back out until morning. The room was modernized in terms of the bedding and furniture. The shower had great water pressure. But I took showers with the light off cause the noise of the fan connected to the light was so loud and annoying i couldn't stand it. We i came back to the hotel Friday night there was a large crowd of people at the other end of the balcony which was fine. Around 9. But it was never ending. There were what i assume we're kids running up and down the balcony around 11 pm for at least 15-20 minutes. Then there were people outside my room talking loud and fooling around until mid morning. Oh, and the train. Each night the train went by at least four times. It was time away for business and from my family where I absolutely did not get any rest. read more

Front staff was great, but one downside is the train is very loud when it passes by. It really bothers when it is night time because you are trying to sleep. (It isn't the hotel's fault). Here is another thing that bothers me, we stopped by our room to change our clothes from a graduation.... We saw that housekeeping cart thing outside our door, first, we thought we should wait until she was done and well we didn't see any movement or hear anything for a while.... The housekeeper left our door open/unlock but had door holder slit in. When we went in the room she was not even in there. We were there for good 10 minutes then left. Anyone can go into our room and we don't even know how long it has been like that! (Very uncomfortable) read more

If i could give 0 stars i would. 1St of all we checked in for 3 days. roof was dirty. when i put a towel on floor after taking a shower i noticed the towel was filthy from floor. when i checked in they ran my credit card and said it didn't work so ran it again. then i noticed i had 2 charges on card. 2nd in morning the so called free breakfast was a joke. Old dry biscuts, NO fresh fruit. 3rd we notice there were numerous hookers going in and out of rooms. we also talked to numerous other guest there some of whom stay on a regular basis for business and they even said they are there all the time. Police came through parking lot and my wife talked to him and he even knew about them. wanted to check out after 1st night but front desk said only manger can give any refund and would bein in morning. when i went to front desk next morning and afternoon there was no manager so we had to stay a 2nd night. finally on 3rd night manager was finally in and would only give us partial refund eve though i booked reservation directly through choice hotels, not a 3rd party site like priceline. I am so sad! The room was filthy!!! There are hairs in our beds, the tub hasn't been cleaned in forever, the toilet had dried poop in it, the floor was disgusting! I paid for 3 nights and wouldn't be able to get a refund, so I drove to Walmart and purchased cleaning supplies! I was approached 2x by random people asking me if I had weed- really? Another conversation with other guests indicated this is happening frequently here! I'm so sorry I wasted 400 bucks for 3 nights here! The breakfast was good at least. read more

Two stars would be a stretch. I stayed in room 101 behind the office. The room had recently received a new floor furniture and some paint but a lot was just covered up. *The hair dryer and cord as well as the ceiling tiles were yellowed and you could smell that this had been a smoking room at one point that had been covered by paint. *The AC smelled when it was turned on. *Mold around the base boards in the bathroom. *The shower fan was loud as hell. *No WiFi signal in the room. *Train tracks are close enough to shake the bed, literally, and they run all night. *This is not a good area. I'm guessing the parking lot is lit up by 10 million watts of lighting at night for a reason. I'm usually a diamond member for Choice hotels by February every year so yes I stay at plenty of hotels and this one made the companies do not use again list. One night and gone to a Holiday inn and won't be back. read more

We booked this hotel through booking.com. We were traveling to Charleston for vacation. Having said that, I would like for people to understand this is not a good area. The photos do not match what you find when you arrive. The room smelled like Clorox. It was if someone had cleaned up a crime scene. It gagged me and my wife. I nearly threw up from the stench. There were people all over the parking lot who appeared to be intoxicated. As soon as we saw and smelled the room, we went back up to the desk, turned in my key and left. We got a refund from the hotel and booking.com. This hotel should not be listed on booking.com or any other hotel website. It is obviously long term housing for people with drug problems. Based on professional training I could immediately tell something was wrong. Please don't stay here. read more

Was a bit nervous about booking a room after seeing the reviews and the outside of the hotel. Was EXTREMELY pleased when we walked into the office and was greeted by the nicest guy! He helped us out with our questions about reward benefits. When we arrived into our room, it was beautiful. It looked to be newly remodeled, with wood flooring. The bed and furnishings look nice and new as well. As with a Quality Inn, rooms aren't the biggest and bathroom is lil tight, but for the price, we were very happy! read more

Stayed here last week (7/15 to 7/20). DO NOT STAY HERE. At 11:00 PM, we heard extremely loud banging, over and over. At first, thought it was next door. Turned out to be maintenance in the ceiling. I was changing clothes and the exhaust vent in the bathroom popped down with a man's face looking into our bathroom. I am female. Needless to say, we were beyond upset at this violation of privacy and ridiculous intrusion. Manager very unsympathetic. Lied to me and said he'd seen my fiance come out of our room and had talked with him, which he had NOT. In addition, there was always trash around the premises - on the breezeways, stairs, parking spaces and perimeter. First night, a bunch of people (probably 10-12) congregated with beach chairs on the breezeway in front of the stairwell so you could not get by or use that stairwell. No one from the motel did anything about this. Shower handle had screw sticking out, which didn't see until tried to turn it. Toilet loose from the wall, so when you stand up, it bangs the wall. Floors so dirty, had to brush off feet when getting into bed. They didn't change our sheets, but just made the bed. We did not request this. Not all towels replaced every day. Someone's wet underwear was on the breezeway - probably blew off the railing after swimming. TERRIBLE BREAKFAST. Powdered eggs, no sausage, very few pastry choices. Went 3 days without tissues being replaced in room - had to ask for them. TACKY and not worth your money. read more

On a business trip, only days after a catastrophic flooding event in the immediate area. I travel often and have a hard time finding decent, hotels with an affordable price. I typically have extended stays which force me to go to the lower priced hotels and motels. This place was recommended by a work friend who had arrived prior to our group. I had looked online and called around but unfortunately availability was limited. I was a little skeptical when we pulled in only because typically when you go in to a lobby it is extravagant and the rooms are horrible. This place was the opposite. The lobby is nothing special which gave me a red flag. When we opened our door to our room we were very shocked. It was clean, it wasn't outdated and spacious. I anticipated a nightmare but pleasantly surprised! Night one is great so far. Don't let the lower price scare you. We paid $69 and it is hands down better than the room we had lastnight for $99. read more

I booked my room August 24 for a 4-day stay beginning October 8. They put me in a smoking room, so as soon as I stepped into it and smelt the overwhelming stench, I turned around and went to the desk to request to be moved to a non-smoking room. The lady at the counter claimed they had recently been booked solid and had no place to move me, but to check with her the following morning at 11am to see if anyone had checked out to where I could be moved. I checked the following day and was told there was nowhere to move me. Being a non-smoker, I found the room overwhelming with the smell of cigarettes. The walls, lamps and power cords were turning yellow from the smoke. (The smell of the room was so bad that when I unzipped my luggage after arriving back home, the clothes packed inside still reeked of the room.) There were cobwebs in the upper corners of the room and being an older place, the fixtures were rough and the drywall in the bathroom was showing damage from years of exposure to moisture. One evening I found an uninvited guest in my bathroom, but I couldn't identify what the six-legged insect was, though it was roughly the size of a small beetle. Every time I stay in a hotel, I immediately place the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door so I can sleep in without the maid interrupting, however, at this place the maid pounded repeatedly on my door the following morning until I dressed and answered the door only to tell her I didn't require maid service; she took a note on her notepad without any apology and moved on to pound on the next door. While I recognize her enthusiasm, I was dumbfounded at be awakened so disrespectfully. I wasn't expecting a high-end place, however, I was expecting to be placed in a clean non-smoking room at the least since my reservation was very far in advance of my stay. The evening I checked in, there were practically no cars in the parking lot so I suspect I was intentionally placed in a smoking room since I had pre-paid via Priceline (therefore had little recourse) and they were saving the non-smoking rooms for guests that were expected to arrive the weekend, which is speculation on my part but it is my perception nonetheless. Had i not prepaid, I would have left that first evening, so I learned a lesson this trip for sure. read more

My room stunk, it was filthy, the bathroom faucet was coming off the sink. Just an awful stay - I couldn't wait to leave in the morning. I will say that Cannon (I think that was his name) was very nice and professional but the hotel was very very disappointing and it wasn't inexpensive either. I can honestly say I probably will not stay in this hotel again, even with it being a reasonable price. The room was ok, not the greatest but it did look like it had been remodeled recently. The pool was almost a green color (could have been due to the recent hurricane) but even if that's the case. It should have been closed. While staying here for the one night that we did. I found a needle laying in the grass & not a sewing needle. When I told one of the employees he simply just picked it up and threw it away no apologies & clearly very unsanitary That's disgusting and was my first sign that this was clearly a drug environment. After only being in our room a short amount of time we saw a lot of suspicious activity and I even believe there were a few prostitutes by the way they were dressed and the short amount of time spent in and out of at least three different rooms on our floor. I was completely astonished how obvious it was and how nothing was happening to stop it. If you have kids I do not suggest staying here. read more
