I met a friend in Charleston, SC, for Memorial Day weekend. We stayed just across the river from the historic district at Springhill Suites. The price was much more reasonable than over the bridge. The hotel offers a shuttle with two stops in the historic district. There's a once daily fee, less than $10. Full disclosure, I did not use the shuttle. We took Lyfts a few times and other times, when parking was free in the area we were going, we drove. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. We were in a disability room and the beds were so low to the ground and the mattresses was too soft. I prefer a firmer mattress. Although it did not hurt my back or hips thankfully! And if you turned the air down slightly the room smelled musty. Here's the thing, we didn't spend much time in rhe room, so all my complaints were manageable. And bonus, they offered breakfast. When you're out of town and not able to cook, one free meal a day is a win! The pool was nice and I loved the waterfront view from the room and pool! I would consider staying here again. read more

I travel constantly with my job and stay in some very nice hotels. If you are looking for plush, this isn't it. But if you are looking for a place that is clean, comfortable, with a location that works and complimentary breakfast, this place is for you. Our room was on the fourth floor facing the marina. Great view. There was plenty of free parking. Another plus. The lady at the front desk that checked us in was very friendly and kind. Another positive. The hallway had a bit of an odor to it but I believe that is somewhat common in this area. Our room had no such odor. The room was large. It was nice that there was a keurig coffee maker with pods. The bed was comfortable and the sheets felt nice. The room definitely wasn't plush but it had everything we needed. We weren't paying a plush price so we were not expecting that. Comfortable bed, great water pressure, and clean. Perfect. The ladies at breakfast did a great job. And the many offerings were very pleasant. There were waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, oatmeal, grits, cereal, yoghurt, bagels, muffins, yoghurt, fruit, milk and chocolate milk and juices. If you can't find something that works for you with all those offerings, it is your issue and not the issue of the hotel. The breakfast area was clean and they were constantly refilling. Really bad hotel, and definitely needs to be renovated, photos & videos are attached. First of all, I am a loyal long-term Marriott customer and have stayed in Marriott properties all over the world over the last several decades. This property looked amazing in photos and when I booked it I was told it was renovated .... it was horrible. The bathroom is disgusting, the sink did not drain, the shower did not drain, the bathtub and shower walls had major cracks and patched in several spots. The AC was horrible, very loud and didn't respond to the thermostat. Their TV subscription did not broadcast CBS so I couldn't watch The Masters golf tournament. The staff however was very friendly and professional, when I explained these issues to the staff, she was very apologetic and explained that this is a franchise owned property and will alert management to fix the room. This property needs a major renovation and should alert customers before they book, there are other beautiful Marriott properties in Charleston to stay at. This is a very poor reflection of Marriott brand. read more

The location of this hotel is very convenient to downtown. The rooms were clean. I liked it that there was hard flooring in the room rather than carpet. The breakfast buffet was ok-not as many offerings as other hotels. So much of it the food was prepackaged. The hotel does need a refresh as everything thing seems to be worn. read more

We checked in last Saturday for a three night stay. We arrived after 6pm. The front desk welcomed the two of us and acknowledged our Marriott status. I asked about an upgrade. She said none as the hotel was 100% capacity. Based on my hotel profile I got high floor but right across from the elevator. That's the opposite of my request. We entered our room. I liked the roominess. But I noticed crumbs on the floor. And the sticky floor. And overall dusty. It wasn't until today that it occurred to me we didn't get our welcome bag - bottled water, chips, and a snack. One bottle of water. Usually we get two. Nope. Front desk is adamant. You only get one bottle. Pros- complimentary breakfast and free parking on site. Relatively easy access to the highway. Cons: odd hotel location unless you consider a couple of nearby hospitals. And the welcome bag situation. The hotel is situated by a marina. There are tons of boats. read more

1) Hotel said it had an EV car charger - they don't. What they have is a parking spot that says "for EV cars or hybrids", and has a wall outlet. That's not a car charger. 2) The '3rd bed' (a sofabed) had a mattress no human could sleep on. It was less comfortable than sleeping on the floor. 3) Soap and shampoo dispensers were lying in the tub when we arrived. We called and a technician came to 'fix' them. Later in the middle of the night, they fell off again and scared the shit out of us. 4) MOST IMPORTANTLY: the place is moldy. Multiple rooms smelled moldy, and management could not direct us to a room that wasn't. On my last day I inspected the AC unit and saw mold growth ON THE UNIT, so basically, it was blowing mold spores all over the room, and us, throughout our 4-night stay. Compared to the same SpringHill suites, by the outlets 15 minutes away, this one isn't as nice. The first floor is just parking with covered options. The second floor is the reception and breakfast buffet which is not as robust. They have the usual, coffee (no flavored creamer and no tea options), cereal, grits/oatmeal with toppings, eggs and bacon, yogurt, muffins, bagels and fruit but no make-yourself-waffles. The room was still spacious but not nearly as updated. Open closet (hanging rack and the wooden shelves without doors, two TVs, Balfour curtains that don't go down to the bottom so light seeps in. The ac worked fine (for the hot 70 degree days) but the heater didn't work at all (dropped down to 50s) and only pushed out cold air. No thermostat on the walls like the other hotel. The bathroom was the most dated with old caulking and a sad looking tub shower. The first night they did a nice job cleaning and restocking towels. The second night they must have ran out of time or were waiting for the vacuum and linen cart because it never came. Floor was gross and we had to go downstairs to get new towels (since they took all the ones we hung up to reuse). This one is closer to downtown, (10 min drive) which is convenient but still a drive if you plan on going out. If you own a boat by the port, it's right outside. This is our go-to hotel when we are in Charleston. Since Covid, they have changed their cleaning of the room rules. No room cleaning during your stay. That's fine except we had a visitor during our stay. An unwelcome visitor. Made for a horrible second night's sleep bc I was paranoid the visitor would be crawling on me. Breakfast was nice. The one person working the breakfast couldn't keep up with the demand of all the consumers but she was very friendly and trying her hardest. read more

Very disappointed with this hotel... don't let the fancy lobby photos fool you! My son nicked his leg on these brackets hanging out on the bed frame. The power outlet/USB between the beds didn't work-- so tried to call the front desk--but the phone in the room didn't work! So, I went downstairs and talked with the front desk AND the maintenance person and he promised to come up and swap it out. Well, he never came. Breakfast was super limited-- waffles in a bag, powered eggs and cold sausage patties. I talked with the hotel manager at check out about my stay and what was even crazier was there was a hotel nurse there that heard about my son knicking his leg-- and mentioned she told maintenance about the bracket because another guest had the same problem. Horrible...-- then never heard from the hotel front desk manager again about trying to "make it right". Definitely not a Marriott experience that I'm used to. read more

This is the second time we've stayed here. First time was amazing. This time was pretty good. For some reason it's a little complicated if you use googlemaps to get here. We never have an issue with parking. I loved our room. We had a great view. There was a fridge in our room and it was set at the highest temperature but our stuff still wasn't very cold. The breakfast is pretty good. It's a buffet and it has something different each time. I was pretty pleased with it. Depending on what time you come, it can be hard to find a place to sit but we were lucky enough to always find a spot. They do have a pool and a hot tub. We were at the hot tub just about every night. It's pretty relaxing and it was clean. Overall, I do like this place. read more

Not really a fan. We found insects in our room and while management did apologize and took a little $$ off our bill, it was still - yuck. Front desk staff was very friendly and understanding. Parking and getting around the parking area was challenging due to some work going on at the entrance. I have never had such a horrible experience at a Marriott property. We check in and of course the app never tells me room is ready. Front desk guy was sooo shy and barely spoke but he wasn't rude. Room was dirty. Ceiling had webs and dust balls hanging. No extra roll of toilet paper or tissue. There was a huge storm and our room leaked. No one I mean no one bothered to ask if we wanted another room. We asked for a trash can cause there was none in room. Next day? Still no one checked on us. The power went out then back on. The day of arrival I checked in on the Bonvoy app not realizing that an expired card was set as the primary card on file. I received a confirmation email of my check in and thought I was all set. When I arrived with my family after a long day of traveling I was told that the card didn't go through so they cancelled my reservation and sold my room to someone else. The hotel was completely booked and all hotels in the Charleston area were booked as well leaving us stranded at 1AM with nowhere to stay. i would think if there was an issue with my card I would have received a phone call, text or email before cancelling our reservation. The woman who tried to check in wasn't helpful at all and showed zero empathy for our situation. It was very disappointing. read more

I booked this stay a few months back using a complimentary Marriott Certificate I had earned. The front desk personal was super friendly. The gentleman gave may a welcome gift local treat and a bottle of water. He also me offered another 2 beverages and a snack from the marketplace store. My room was located on the top floor and had a outdoor balcony and a view of the harbor They offer a shuttle here twice an hour to the downtown area if you don't have a car which is great. They also offer complimentary breakfast daily, although I didn't eat here. Overall I was happy with my stay here and would return again in the future. read more

This hotel is not good. The staff (for the most part) was amazing expect we did have one lady tell my group that this hotel isn't a "full service" hotel so they can't give us any more toilet paper. Unless you are willing to spend a lot of money to get a bigger room you will end up with a room that has little to none outlets, no shelf to put your clothes on when you are taking a shower, etc. The hotel room I am in also has a lot of damage in the room. The couch has big stains on the seats, the lamp shade looked like someone took a knife to it, etc. I am not one of those people who expects that a hotel to do everything for me but it would be nice if they came in to take out the trash or give you more towels and toilet paper. read more

This is the place to stay in Charleston. Not only were the rooms clean, the staff was very friendly, and breakfast was excellent. My wife accidentally left her purse at breakfast one morning and 10 minutes later I get a phone call from the front desk alerting me to this mistake. I went to the front desk retrieved her purse and brought it back to our room where my wife checked her purse only to find all of her cash was still there and her cell phone and all of her credit cards. This place is very dated, but the rooms are huge. Ours had a fridge, microwave, sink, a pull-out-bed couch, two queen sized beds, and two TVs - one for the living area and the other in the bedroom. Breakfast was included, which was a plus. It wasn't an amazing breakfast, but it served its purpose of filling me up. There were cookies available throughout the day, as well as coffee and juice. The staff was pretty friendly, too. It's not very conveniently located - there is nothing much to do within walking distance, and downtown Charleston is about a 10-15-minute drive away, before having to find parking. Overall, it was a decent place to stay, if you can forgive some of the oldness of it all and realize that for the price, it's a solid deal. read more

Wonderful large rooms. Clean and neat. Lobby is on the second floor but there is an elevator to take you up. Friendly and helpful staff. Free parking. Free wifi. Free hot and cold breakfast buffet. Free shuttle to the historic district. Free cookies and hot drinks at night. Right on the marina with some great views and photo shots. Only negative so far? No restaurants within walking distance but they do have menus for delivery options. I was able to get a good price on Priceline of132. Reasonable for the location and items included. SpringHill Suites Charleston Downtown/Riverview is one of my favorite hotels in the Charleston area. This is a great place to stay that is minutes to downtown, but much more relaxed and quiet. The location is perfect because it is close to everything, but not too close to everything if you want to be a little bit removed from the city. The hotel is very nice and well maintained and offers a very relaxing and chilled out stay that is close to the water and the river. The staff here is great and does their part very well to make sure that everyone has a great visit and has everything that they need. I have had a really great experience every time that have been here and they have never disappointed. read more

I really enjoyed my (brief) stay at this property last week. The king suite was a great value at $103+tax! My room was modern, clean, big enough, and had a small balcony. Front desk staff was friendly and honored my only two requests prior to arrival (high floor room and room far from elevator). I wasn't able to take advantage of some of the amenities such as the complimentary shuttle to downtown or breakfast, but it was nice to know they were available. If I return to Charleston again, I hope I can be a guest here again. read more

Nice place to stay overall. Very convenient shuttle to downtown starting at 5pm till 11pm, the drivers are all friendly, knowledgable, and great at engaging you during your trip. The room had 2 nice sized TVs, a clean king sized bed, and roomy bathroom. The room also had a large window, and plenty of lights. My only negative about the room are the pillows, may want to bring your own, mine were way to soft. Breakfast in the morning is fantastic, a huge variety of food, and everything I had (grits, corn beef hash, turkey bacon, bagels, and muffins) was a delight to eat. We had ants EVERYWHERE, the tv wasn't hooked up (and the one time they sent someone to look at it was 8am when our infant was sleeping) and we couldn't get room cleaning service when we asked for it, not ONCE during a 4-night stay. Breakfast was lousy, and the in-room coffee maker was broken. Is this what you define as an acceptable room for $180 a night? This hotel needs a maintenance overhaul! There were so many little things in our room that needed repairs. Ex: bathroom faucet leaked, sections of trim were missing from the walls, scrapes all over the floors, metal ring around shower head was hanging, metal ring around shower handle was hanging etc... We had daily issues with housekeeping: empty toilet paper not replaced, left us no towels, empty tissue box not replaced etc...The futon/pull out couch was extremely uncomfortable. Couldn't sit on it at all. The floors in room were always dirty. When breakfast ends @ 9am promptly they never leave any coffee or water out for the guests to enjoy throughout the day. The breakfast staff never checks to see if items are running low. You have to seek them out for refills of items. The ground level door is supposed to be locked at 10pm & only accessible by room key. We came in every evening well after 10pm and the door was always open. Front desk staff was neither friendly or accommodating. This hotel doesn't live up to Marriott standards. We recently stayed at this property while attending a wedding in Charleston. I stay at Marriott's often, and understand the radical differences of Marriott Suites depending on where you are in the country. that said, this is an older Marriott that really needs updating. 4:3 TVs are the first thing that need to go. The desk is well set up, but you have to go crawling underneath to plug something in. BUT...the wifi is free! The beds are comfortable, but this Marriott uses the older A/C units that blow cold air directly at you. That should be addressed. The bathrooms are fine, but this property uses REALLY cheap curtain hangers that are pretty bent up and unclipped. The breakfast (included) is a bit more robust than some of the other properties I've stayed at, and includes the basics as well as eggs, sausage, "make your own" waffles, etc. The location is conveniently on the water....great ambiance. Also, they do include a shuttle starting at 5pm running to/from downtown. Parking is free...always a nice touch. Overall, I'd probably stay here again, but would definitely appreciate an upgrade between now and then.... read more

The customer service was great, the location was splendid, HOWEVER, finding a cockroach in our restroom ruined the experience for us. We were getting ready for bed and as skin as we walked into the restroom there it was. We smashed it, of course. Being from the south, we're used to them but finding one in our "clean" room just isn't acceptable. read more

I checked in online, got a Mobil key. Upon arrival, we entered the room to find a musty smelling room with a syrup packet on the floor by the bed. The desk had not been cleaned, with obvious water rings on it. There are not outlets by the beds so no phone charging, laptop, etc. I went to the front desk to ask for an extra room key , and was greeted with a rough "what do you need" (despite a Marriott rewards member). The room is in need of updating with tears in the carpet and a broken lamp shade. During our 5 night stay, we asked multiple people times for our trash to be emptied, toilet paper replenished, and for an occasional fresh towel. Each time we were met with hostility , and told that this hotel is not a full service hotel and to put our trash in the hallway. We were told we could go to the front desk and get toilet paper. We saw a maid once and gave her $10 tip and asked her to empty our trash and provide TP. It was done one time. The night clerk was a sweet young man, he was the redeeming factor of this stay. The pool and work our room are good, but other than that, no redeeming factor. read more

I was on the 4th floor and it smelled like warm mold in the hallway. I turned the ac as low as it could go but it could hardly keep up to keep the room cool. The room I had is a bit chopped up so if you can't fully turn the tv to watch from the bed. Also if your using the office desk your starring at a wall and can see the tv at all. Sofa was dirty with stains all over it so not useable. The good was the view and the ac works in the lobby nice and cool there. 3 stars for the view other then that I would pass on this one. read more

I have booked a room at this hotel 3 times in the past year. Each time the experience got progressively worse. The latest booking was for 24 October 2018 , with a confirmed , prepaid reservation. Upon arrival the hotel informed me that the room had been cancelled, they were having maintenance problems and were outsourcing guests to other hotels. The Reception Desk Attendant Morgan was rude, unprofessional and condescending-- a very poor representation of quality customer service for a brand like Marriott. This hotel has poor management and is unreliable for guests. As a 20 year event planner throughout the nation I would not recommend this property and for those who choose to stay you may want a back up plan in case your room is not available. This hotel was going through renovations when I checked in. No fee for parking on their lot but you need to take a very slow elevator to the first level to check in. The room was older in appearance than other Spring Hill Suites and hopefully the outside construction will eventually lead to upgrading all the rooms. I stayed in a suite but the TV facing the beds went off line within 2 hours. After calling the front desk, a reboot from the network did not work. The other TV in the lounge area worked. The fitness center was a bit outdated, having 10 + year cardio machines and several TV screens were not working. Their breakfast was marginal, using egg mix vs the real thing. The location was convenient for me, needed to be close to downtown during my stay. If you make a wrong turn, coming or going back to this hotel, the roads are not forgiving so rely on your GPS to guide you especially at night. read more
