AO Structural Engineers - Serious Wood Rot!

    AO Structural Engineers

I called AO last minute looking for an engineer to assess the columns at our new property. The (4)…read morecolumns were in bad shape and we wanted to understand what our options were for repairing or replacing and to gauge whether these were all structurally needed. Grace greeted us on time at the property and was an absolute delight. Her energy and enthusiasm for the property was so refreshing! Don't let her age fool you - Grace was bright, confident, and extremely knowledgeable about the process. After spending about 45 minutes on the inspection, she promptly followed up with details from our report. It was great getting to work with Grace and AO! Highly recommend!

I recommend avoiding this company at all costs. From the first interaction, Nick Allen has been…read morenegligent, ineffective, and callous. We hoped to remove some low-hanging beams in our home, and the first time that Nick showed up, he was completely unprepared and said that he couldn't evaluate anything until we cut holes in the ceiling ourselves. We cut the holes and rescheduled a second visit an entire month later (what a waste of time). Nick drew up shoddy architectural plans that multiple contractors told us wouldn't work after demo-ing my family room. When I asked Nick for my money back, he was cold and dismissive of the multiple contractors' genuine concerns about fire hazards and safety risks in Nick's Plan B, after his Plan A was deemed completely infeasible. At this point in the saga, we have spent months with a torn apart family room, paid for bad architectural plans, paid to have the family room demolished, and now have to pay to repair the room to its former state without anything to show for it. I was surprised to be gaslit and put in such a stressful financial position by this company - I hope you can avoid similarly wasting thousands that you won't get back.

Turner missed a couple of deadlines, shared my Google photos without my consent and without an explanation. As a stay-at-home Mama, I'm desperate to recoup my losses, and Bill Turner didn't follow through on anything he promised. He's untrustworthy.

I heard about Bill Turner from my Newport neighborhood emails search for a structural engineer…read more Bill of course came highly recommended, even well versed working with historical homes and the city. We conversed briefly over email and I felt he understood my ideas! I believe we spoke once on the phone, he was professional and seemed genuinely interested in the ideas for my 2nd story build. It was exciting to brainstorm with someone like Bill who knows the rules. A few days prior to our scheduled appointment he confirmed the date, fantastic! I arranged a meet up with a contractor, the historic preservation rep and Bill we looked all around the premises. The entire appointment could not have gone better, I would have been seriously lost without his help. Questions were asked of me by the historic preservation rep during the meetup and Bill was my voice. He was a complete asset! He's 100% the person that you want especially when you have an idea maybe outside the box. Bill said he looked forward to putting my ideas on paper and once plans were submitted to the city if issues he could likely resolve! I feel his costs were very reasonable too. I look forward to working with Bill!
