First and foremost, you are here trying to find a landscaper who has incredible knowledge minus the cheese car sales-man Carl showing up at your house, trust me, I know, and it has been a feat. I've used multiple landscapers and I have found they always have a way to "upsell" me. I was exhausted over the pitches, disappointed in the lack of follow up, and questioning their pricing and tactics. Silly grasshoppers.. The grass is truly greener with Acres Landscaping,.. He is extremely detail-oriented, honest, and his follow up is impeccable. His prices are fair, he listens to your needs, and then actually delivers on them. Acres Landscaping is full service. You name it, he'll do it: mow and trim, blow your driveway and walkways (you can't forget about this detail), knock down the spider webs around your front door like a junior fireman with in the web of Spider-Man was chasing him (literally), remove and dispose of thorn bushes, and questionable vines. Mitch, who is patient, listens to the needs of what I see, and guides and gives me feedback on the things I have no idea about. For example; I was looking at the leaves still on my yard after winter ( asking for "spring clean up" ). Totally forgetting how we had prepped with mulch and trimming at the end of fall and feeling so reassured that a quick run over the yard will naturally compost the yard and look beautiful for us!! Next, I felt it was such a 'blade' of delight on how he never pressures me to change things and will guide over time to allow things to fit a budget. I have some bare grass spots, and he had listened to my concerns, gave me wonderful options in a range of price points and reassured me in landing the recommendations in an email for me. Finally, he has always anticipated the grassy needs, while placing the stacks of green aside. Last summer, due to it being so dry, he did not just "stick to the schedule". Instead, he communicated with me, let me know he didn't feel there was a need ( nothing was growing ), and kindly circled back in follow up in the weeks afterward. Could he have charged me? Yes. Could he have stuck to the schedule? Yes. Fact is, he didnt, not for one week, but for THREE. Mitch is the man with the plan. When the…read morewinter storm of Jan 2022, took a tree out, obstructing our driveway, they came over very quickly and made our driveway passible and then returned and took down the badly damaged tree. We have known of them and their good community service for years. We also chose them because they are licensed and insured - and not everyone is. Later, I asked for an estimate about other trees that had been damaged by the storm and by neighbors trees that had fallen on some of our trees. They gave me an estimate that was clear and explained exactly what they would do. It took a bit of time for us to save up to have this work done. When we let them know we were ready, they were here the next day to begin prep work. With their very busy schedule I know we lucked out. From start to finish, they were professional, friendly, efficient beyond measure, and thorough. They were able to get all nine trees down in one day. They even came blew any Ieft over saw dust out of the driveway. During their work here, they checked in by phone (to let me know they'd be back to tidy, to ask about relocating vehicles, etc.) All the men were very polite and courteous. They clearly knew exactly what they were doing. As if that wasn't enough, the wood we had taken down will become part of their charity, Start A Spark, which provides free wood to families in need who heat with wood burning stoves. We will definitely use them again for any and all tree needs. I can't recommend them highly enough!

That time has come and gone - I just reached out to them today (Dec 2nd) - a week later - and they informed me that tomorrow (Dec 3rd) was the makeup day in case the 25th didn't work out. Problem is, WE weren't kept in the loop on any of their scheduling/changes. They responded when I texted, but the response consisted of more apologies, just like the first time when they neglected to keep us informed. We were looking for a partnership to help us manage our tree population. Now we have to go through the research process all over again to find someone reliable, which apparently, Metcalf is not.

Twenty years ago when my house was built, which was long before my time in it, Jim Shreckhise was…read morethe landscaper responsible for creating the eye-sore that is now my front yard. Below I will present the details of his job then, as well as his recent, equally bad, proposed solution to the problems that he created 2 decades ago. I will try to keep it brief so that you can quickly move on to a landscaping company that knows what it is doing. -At the front corner of the driveway: 3 weeping cherries all within an 8-foot triangle pattern. Now huge and unbearable, they have created subterraneous root systems that permeate the yard, creeping under the driveway, which has buckled as a result. Why anybody would put 3 potentially huge trees in such an undersirable location is beyond me, but it is clear that he did not take the future of the yard into consideration. Every year they must be cut back extensively so that I can pass through the driveway. The city, also, has notified me twice that they must be cut back from the street so that drivers could have full visibility. -Flanking the front door: 2 Japanese red maples so close to the house and porch that they constantly have to be trimmed, year after year. -Right in front of my front door: 5 dogwoods in a completely unnatural and unpleasing zig-zag position, so close together that they are now entangled in one another. -The rest of the front yard: DOZENS of juniper, holly, another gigantic oak tree, more dogwoods, 5 barberry bushes, 5 dwarf pine trees, 3 golden mop cypress, and a tri-color beech that now takes up half of the front yard area. In summary, the landscaping now looks like an overgrown forest area that probably cost a fortune for the home's original owner. Two years ago, I thought I would give Shreckhise another chance and asked him to propose a solution to the high-maintenance clutter that he originally created. I had two criteria: it had to fit within my budget, and had to be as low-maintenance as possible. His idea was to rip about 90% of the plants out and plant $6,000 of rose bushes, holly and boxwoods, all in aesthetically unpleasing geometric patterns throughout the yard. How is $5,000-6,000 worth of rose bushes low-maintenance?! Needless to say, I did not call him back about his plan. Shreckhise may have decent ideas at the time, but he does not take into consideration anything that might happen in the future. I cannot imagine how a professional would recommend blocking the main entrance of a home with 5 dogwoods, 2 maples and other shrubbery. When I look around the city, I can tell a Shreckhise creation when I see one. It usually consists of multiple weeping cherries, barberry, dwarf spruces, and golden mop cypress, all of which provide an array of colors, but the zig-zaggy patterns, positioning, and sheer number of items is mind-boggling. Save yourself money, time, and future stress. Please do not allow Shreckhise to landscape your yard the way that he did mine when the previous home owners hired him.
