One thing I loved about visiting Ocracoke, particularly this time of year, and Zillie's was the fact that it feels real...not like a basic tourist trap. The bartender our first night was friendly as were all the locals (shout out to Shannon and Benny!) who regaled us with stories about Ocracoke past and present. The experience the first night brought me back and I about broke the bank because they also have a ton of cute gifts and other goods. If you ever have the good fortune to visit, you gotta stop by. Hey, maybe one day I'll own it if they'll sell it...loved it that much! But be sure to check the hours as they are subject to change...you're on island time.

MOON EGG ROLLS These egg rolls were so deliciously fresh and crunchy. Every bite was full of minced pork, shredded carrots, cabbage and vermicelli. Dipped with their homemade sweet chili sauce, just divine! SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS Rice paper rolled with vermicelli, fresh greens, carrots, cilantro, and shrimp. Dip into the housemate peanut sauce for the best bite. Every bite was so crunchy and fresh, just delicious. The rolls were rolled nice and tight, zero spillage. Very impressed with how stuffed these were. So yummy. DRUNKEN NOODLES We got a medium heat and Thai level hot. Oh my lord these were tasty! We chose chicken for our protein. I love drunken noodles and Thai Moon's style is veggie and flavor heavy, just how I like it. Chewy, flat rice noodles, onions, tomatoes, chilis, garlic and fresh basil leaves; every bite was just an explosion of saucy flavors and textures. In hindsight, we should've just gotten medium because the Thai level one had us SWEATING and chugging our drinks. Delicious nonetheless, but note to self stick with medium if you like spicy, but want to enjoy your meal. Portions are generous, so you'll have enough for leftovers to enjoy the next day. This is ALWAYS our first stop on the island as soon as we get off the ferry. The food is homemade, and the drinks are handcrafted while you wait. The ambiance is everything you'd want on an island: luscious jasmine hanging all over the front door, creaking floorboards under your feet, a homey inside feel, a great outside patio (with more jasmine!) with lots of seating and sunshine. They also have a large selection of canned beers including craft beers of all types including Guinness. They also have sparkling wines and San Pelligrino and sparkling water.
