Chelsea greeted us and welcomed us in. Full disclosure. I had a cold, and was not feeling my best. Somehow, Chelsea made me feel like she would make sure I got what I needed. From bringing extra wasabi, to creating an appetizer that wasn't on the menu, she and the kitchen staff made us feel special. Hubby had the steak, 10/10. Same with the fried oysters. I had the tuna tataki, and with the extra wasabi I could finally breathe lol. My daughter had the chowder and a crab cake. She wasn't feeling well either but the chowder was so good she took it to go. Highly recommend if you're near Oriental NC.

I ordered a clam chowder and a burger w/ sweet potato fries. As someone who lives in New England I am happy to say this is a delicious chowder. To my liking; a thick broth and the right amount of fixings of clams, potatoes, and other ingredients. I would recommend not using the saltine crackers, not needed. Ordered my burger rare and it came out as I ordered it. Sweet potato fries were good too. We ordered a key lime pie for the table and was very good! For one of two restaurants in town I would recommend making reservations to be on the safe side.

Went here for a birthday party and all my boyfriend and I could order was the fries side and salad with basically no toppings. Probably best to just find somewhere else if you're plant based. It's a great mix of casual and slightly upscale without feeling stuffy. It can work for a family dinner or a casual night out. There's just something familiar and comfortable about it. We've both dined in and ordered takeout several times and the service has consistently been wonderful. Our servers and everyone handling our takeout orders have always been incredibly sweet and kind. I will say the hostess experience wasn't the best during our first couple of visits, but thankfully that hasn't reflected the service we've received otherwise. The burgers are AMAZING. I've tried the Bear time Burger as well as the blue cheese burger, which is definitely rich but still so good. The ribeye was absolutely delectable. We've also had the crab dip, which was really flavorful, although a little mayo rich for my personal taste. I'm not crazy about their regular fries but I love that they offer sweet potato fries instead and the cinnamon sweet butter they come with is so good. I also love the croissants they bring out instead of regular bread. They're always warm, delicious, and nearly impossible to resist. Overall, Morgan's has become such an easy go-to for us. The menu has enough variety that it's especially great when we have visitors because everyone can usually find something they'll enjoy. Whether we're dining in or just grabbing takeout, it's one of those places I'm always happy to go back to.

Cypress Hall - The pork dish was a bit "one note" for me. I wish there was the same complexity as other dishes of theirs.

Saturday was the best day of my taste bud's life because of this rice. Chef Daniel, I'll remember this meal for a very long time. We were in no rush and our waiter (Beckett) was very accommodating with our pace. we ordered drinks and settled in on reviewing the small menu. Drinks were fine but I thought my beer (Sexy Cool Hazy IPA) was a little flat. We asked if there were any appetizers that would lend themselves to sharing. The only two, deviled eggs and pimento cheese, were not anything we were interested in so we passed. Surprisingly, there was not even a salad option as a starter. Two of the dinners had the NC catch of the day, golden tilefish. It was nice but a very small portion. One had the shrimp and clam purloo. It was a generous portion and was reported to be good. I had the braised pork cheeks. They tasted good and were not fatty at all. Looking back on our dinner, the food was fine but nothing exceptional. Also nothing "fresh" on the menu; salad, fresh vegetables, nothing. Also the lack of something other than the very pedestrian offers to share is something to consider. For what we paid, I would expect much better. PS - Our waiter, Beckett, was very good. Attentive enough but not too much. Also, why do restaurants of this caliber charge more for a credit card. Who is going to pay cash for a $300 meal? Just crank it into the price of the food and stop rubbing our noses in your cost to do business.

There were a few restaurants but MJ's stood out amongst the rest for the photos and reviews. MJ's is located in downtown New Bern. The restaurant is not very big but the wait (20-25 mins) was worth it. We ordered the Admirals Platter which had oysters, clams, shrimp, and crab legs. The oysters were steamed to perfection, the clams were not dried out, the shrimp was perfectly seasoned with Old Bay and red onions and the crab legs were not dried out. What I am trying to say is, the seafood was fresh and not pre-cooked. It was cook to order. Our waiter was awesome. Even though the restaurant was packed full, he paid attention to our needs. Our glasses never got empty. He kept our table cleared by replacing the shell bucket without asking. We really appreciate the customer service. After dinner, we decided on dessert and had the lemon blueberry pie. I highly recommend it ... deliciousness!!! Thank you MJ's for a special time with delicious food. If we are back in New Bern, you will be a definite choice for seafood.
