Glad we tried it, but we won't be going back When we made our reservation online for a special occasion dinner at Quatrefoil, we included a request for a nice chocolate dessert if possible. When we arrived for dinner, the hostess acknowledged our special occasion. The service was great -- friendly and professional. The bread arrived shortly after, including a really nice selection. The dark dense bread was the best, but all the breads were good. For appetizers, we had the Boston Bib Lettuce & La Tomme Goat Cheese Salad and the butternut squash soup. The soup was really amazing (I cleaned the bowl), although it was expensive. The bib salad was disappointing and much too expensive. The lettuce leaves were whole (too large), the dressing was underneath the greens, and the miniscule shavings of goat cheese were few and far between. I would not order the bib salad again, and I cringed when I heard my neighbor order the salad. Be warned about the salad! For the mains, we had the Cumbrae's Beef Tenderloin and the Willowgrove Hill Boneless Pork Chops. The beef tenderloin was well prepared and included a stupendous sauce and delicious veggies. However, the pool of potato puree on one half of the plate was reminiscent of baby food. The pork was well done with a sweet glaze and tasty sides, but not amazing. The dessert was the biggest disappointment. We were handed the usual dessert menu, whereas we had hoped for some type of special chocolate dessert. We selected the Chestnut Mousse. A huge dinner plate arrived with a message in chocolate all around the edges. The plate had a tiny half-dome of hard chocolate, numerous miniature melon balls of frozen pear, and a small dollop of pear sorbet. The hard chocolate crust of the dome was difficult to crack, and the chestnut mousse inside was unremarkable. I'd advise skipping the dessert. But I had a couple of good decaf cappucinnos that were smooth and creamy. Overall, the dinner at Quartrefoil was a mixed experience. The soup, bread, beef tenderloin, and most of the veggie sides with sauce were excellent, but other items were not so great. It was just not worth the price we paid, and we will not be going back. read more

We had a fine meal at Quatrefoil on Friday night. It was excellent. I had the Fois Gras appetizer - Pickerel - Creme brûlée . Really enjoyed the food - nice atmosphere -Friendly staff. There were some nice canopes... the bread was excellent. Right in the heart of Dundas in Hamilton's west end. This restaurant is right up there with the very best. Can't wait to go back. read more

What do I miss most about moving away from Canada? The maple syrup dispensers at every busy corner? The annual comedy show that is the Maple Leafs? Or quitting my job at Tim Horton's to go work at the one across the street? Nope, nope of these. Instead it's Quatrefoil! Simply put, I've never had better scallops anywhere. I've never had better creme brulee (how do I do the accents?). Heck, even their French fries are best damn tasting fries I've ever had. Seriously, you may scoff at ordering French fries at a fancy restaurant. You would be making a terrible mistake, on par with renewing your season tickets for the Leafs. Go for lunch on a nice day, eat on the patio, and order the steak frites. Those frenc fries will change your life. Hopefully in a positive way. This was my birthday treat meal. I could have chosen any restaurant within a half hour drive of Oakville. Q was highly recommended to me by a client who was adamant. I can honestly report that my meal rates among the top five in my memory. Service is expert but friendly. Food is expert but not fussy. Ambiance is chic but comfortable. Go soon! Have the halibut! Impressed...yes! Satisfied...hell yeah! Our experience was just lovely with beautifully prepared and presented dishes, a few surprises (amuse boche and sweet dessert) and impeccable service (waiter was so approachable, warm and friendly). It made a special event that much more special. The scallop appetizer was exquisite with this amazing sweet corn sauce, I grabbed a couple pieces of bread from the basket just to sop up all that goodness and ensure none of it got wasted! My main was fish special and dining partner had the lamb..I liked the lamb better but the fish special had me content. Will definitely make the trip to return! read more

I wanted to try this place for my birthday last year. I've contacted them on their website asking if they were able to adjust anything to accommodate my vegetarian requirements. I heard nothing. There are some occasions needing to be celebrated in the family, others going out and others are just special. This place makes your special occasion actually feel special without really imposing itself. Their first question to you while walking through the door is "are you celebrating something special this evening?". The restaurant is basically a vintage house, extremely well maintained. Its symbol is an old traditional art symbol which sets the tone for the mood inside. The food is exquisite. Presentation, taste and serving are top class. I really can't pick a dish to talk about as they were all very very good. Be prepared to spend quite a bit for this experience. For a complete meal we spent close to $200 for 2 people but I do not regret it one bit. There is only one question left in my mind. Why do we always have to sacrifice quantity for quality? I mean the portions here are good enough to satisfy a 12 year old girl, but are hardly suited for an adult. I am not saying to leave full and stuffed, but this won't happen even if they double the portions... read more

We had a fantastic server, so that started our dinner really well. Kyle was our server and he has great. We started with cauliflower soup, delicious, then sampled their fancy breads. I ordered the cornish hen, done to perfection, and my husband had the veal chop. He said it was delicious. We then had dessert. He had citrus cake, which he said was excellent, and i had brown sugar tart. Everything was delicious. Even though it got busy towards the end of our dinner, the service was still fantastic. I've been to Quatrefoil numerous times, and each time it's been incredible. The ever changing seasonal menu lists dishes that are so good you'll have trouble deciding what to order. There's simply no better restaurant West of Toronto, and Quatrefoil would rank as one of the top restauarants IN Toronto if it were located there. read more

Excellent restaurant with interesting and changing menu options. They use high quality ingredients and the meals produced are outstanding with attention to quality down to the small details. Even the breads brought before the meals and the small sweets brought with the bill are made with care. I have been and taken guests many times and the quality is consistent. The only time I have been disappointed was when we were there at the same time as a large group in the private dining room and our meals took an extraordinarily long time to come. The excuse was given that there was this large group there but that made us feel we were somehow less important than the group, and that management of booking numbers and staffing hasn't been figured out well. Staff are consistently pleasant knowledgeable and interesting with excellent service aside from this one glitch. Wine list is good. read more

Excellent service .. yet I feel was subpar to most high end restos. Went as 2 and both actually felt upset stomachs after. Tried their tasting menu. 1st dish, panseared scallop with garnishes with squash puree and grilled piece. Scallop was overdone. Squash elements were seasoned well. 2nd dish was awkward... a dish with prosciutto, figs, blackened bread and gorgonzola drizzled with a sweet vinaigrette.. something I can put together in my own kitchen but plated well for value I guess?? I would ask the chef to take it off the menu. 3rd was the best dish. The arctic char. I'd recommend ordering the full entree for this dish as their fish station just knew how to cook fish. Pan seared perfectly and sauced well. Simple cooking done excellent. 4th dish was a striploin.. a cut of striploin plated beautifully.. yet.. all the elements of the dish just spoke saltiness and more saltiness on each different garnish... overbearing all the carrots or shiitake that came with it. They didnt cut off the carrot stem either. It wasn't unbearable in saltiness but the dish was just designed with way too much salt.. big mistake! Desserts were great. I've been twice and was quite happy both times. The good: Amazing atmosphere. The appetizers (the Scallops on one occasion specifically) are beautifully presented and delicious. Excellent wine and cocktail list. Service is easily the best in the city. I'd start this section normally as "the bad" but that would be unfair as it is more the "not as good as the good": Desserts were a bit of a let down and the main portion sizes I found to be way to big. Odd complaint I know but if two ounces were left off the size of my lamb it would probably be the difference between walking out the door and waddling out the door. Conclusion: On the expensive side but well worth the price. It wouldn't be my every day choice but if you are looking to impress this is the place. read more

This is the most sensational restaurant in the area. My family considers it our go to place for special occasions. I took my father there for Fathers Day lunch. They were very busy and a bit short staffed. It took much longer to be served. I brought this to the attention of the Hostess/Manager and she was very apologetic. When our food did come it was sensational. I was very impressed by the professionalism of the staff when I brought this issue to their attention. I have absolutely no hesitation recommending this Restaurant to family and friends. We will be back. read more

We went to Quatrefoil restaurant for a rehearsal dinner of my friends sons wedding. The cocktail hour was hosted outside on the patio and was fine. Then the restaurant asked for everyone to come inside to the dining room to be seated. There was a prearranged three course dinner menu with limited choices as this was a special dinner. The staff promptly took everyone's order and brought some bread to the tables. After an hour, truly one hour, the mother of the groom, approached the staff to ask why it was taking so long. They assured her the meals would be out momentarily. After another half hour, some more bread came out but still no food. Not even the first course of salad had come out, so now it was getting late and extremely noticeable. The restaurant obviously could not handle leaving the upstairs part of the restaurant open to regular dinner guests, while they had a closed party in the main floor dining room. Once the food finally arrived, it was very good, but the dinner lasted very late to accommodate this mishap from the restaurant. I was thoroughly embarrassed for my dear friend that was hosting the evening. This was meant to be a very special event and was not handled well at all by the restaurant. For such a special evening , it's truly inexcusable that this happened. As I mentioned, the food was good, but that doesn't make up for the mishandled dinner. It was not the staffs fault, I think it's the restauranteur's fault for not knowing that he could handle doing anything other than normal dinners, where perhaps the timing is more staggered for the kitchen. read more

Recently had an outstanding dinner at Quatrfoil in Dundas with my wife, sister-in-law and her husband. We'd all been aware of Quatrefoil for years but had never eaten there before because it is about an hour drive from where we all live. Not exactly a convenient distance for dinner with wine. We made a day of it visiting Hamilton and wandering along the Dundas mainstreet. Dinner, service and atmosphere were all excellent. They have a lovely dining room as well as a terrific outdoor patio. Service was attentive and professional. The food was excellent. For starters we sampled the soup of the day, seared scallops and sweetbreads in a truffle sauce. Each was wonderful. Sweetbreads and scallops were perfectly cooked. The mushroom soup was rich and tasty. For mains we sampled duck breast, sous vide filet of salmon and roasted haddock. Again, each was perfectly cooked and accompanied by a taste sensation sauce. The owner/chefs both used to work in my favourite high-end Toronto restaurant, Scaramouche. Quatrefoil is on a par with Scaramouche. That's the highest praise I can give any restaurant. Well done! Well deserved! Quatrefoil is worth he drive to Dundas. It is expensive. But worth every penny. read more

The most amazing service and FOOD is absolutely divine!!!! They bring out free appetizers just to try, and was surprised that they also brought out free dessert as well.
