Seared scallops with purée cauliflower mixed with wild mushrooms and asparagus
    Shahanaz B.

In the middle of the week, I went to Noble Bistro as a surprise dinner. The restaurant was practically empty. It is a big restaurant with simple wooden decors with few arts on the wall. When I was reading the menu... I couldn't figure out what type cuisine this restaurant offers. When our waiter came, my yelping mode came out. I started to ask questions about this place. Information: Their cuisine is Chef inspired Farm to Fork cuisine, and chef of this restaurant JohnRoss Woodland, who is named one of the best 30 chefs under 30 in Chopped Canada. Impressive!!! The waiter was impressed with my inquiries, so he offered a tasting menu and each dish would be a surprise and he asked me if had any restrictions. I did have two restrictions, and he said no problem with it. First, my beautiful looking appetizer comes with a white wine (based California); I get seared scallops with cauliflower purée mixed with wild mushrooms and asparagus. It was so delicious, i heard myself making noises ...hmmmm! Second, my main meal was Black Sea bass with black pasta, grape tomatoes and pesto purée. It was perfect portion and every single bite of dish was heaven; it came with another glass of wine (based New Zealand).Third, my exotic looking desert, deconstructed strawberry pistachio shortcake, on the side strawberry sorbet with limoncello; it was an absolute delight. Best of it, it wasn't too sweet. I just loved it. What an awesome service we had! What a delicious surprise was this tasting menu. This place is a gem for Oakville residents!

I got very sick from their Caesar salad about a month ago. I called them the next day in order to let them know that I was the only one who had the salad, and that everything else was shared with the rest of the table and that everybody else was fine including my two year old. They took my name and number and hang up saying that they would follow up with me. They never did. Not even a sorry call or an apology. I thought maybe it was some dairy stuff in it and that they maybe forgot about it, whatever I didn't want to make a fuss about it. Until today when i found out about the E. coli outbreak in romaine lettuce on the news. Now it all makes sense, they simply do not wash their salads! It is sloppy of them, especially a fine dining restaurant, and I am very disappointed because my previous experience was beautiful. Sad..

So excited that a nice bistro has arrived downtown Oakville! Warm welcome by the hostess who took our coats and seated us. The place was approx 3/4 full, not too noisy. Warm decor with dark wood tables and neutral colour scheme. Our server offered us water and gave us time to peruse the menu. Good variety to please most palates. Ordered the daily soup - roasted tomato and the organic salad to start. Both starters were delish. Fresh salad greens with pear and goat cheese and big chunks of walnuts. Wine and old fashioned were both good. Chicken and mushroom gnocchi and lobster fettuccine for mains. The gnocchi was the star with light fluffy dumplings that had been browned so they were crispy and a creamy funghi sauce with chicken. The lobster fettuccine was ok. For the price $32 I expected actual chunks of lobster but it was more of a ragout of tomatoes and bits of lobster. Fettuccine was cooked perfectly but not nearly as good as that gnocchi. Desserts were the baklava cheesecake and chocolate mousse. Both were okay as I've had a better quality mousse elsewhere. Service was friendly and attentive. Our server forget to bring the sugar for my cappuccino and we had to ask someone else to bring it. Same server had to be asked to top up our sparkling water. I do expect service with a bit more finesse but those are things that are easily fixed. The evening ended with coat check confusion. We had a tag, he hands us one set of coats, nope not ours, tries again, nope still not ours, 3rd time's the charm. Thanked him for showing us the contents of the closet . Definitely worth a repeat visit!

Chef Johnross has opened what should be an amazing success in downtown Oakville. The menu is terrific The staff are friendly & helpful The environment is great Noble offers private dinning & private function facilities The wine cellar is constantly growing My new regular Hang out when in Oakville

Reading West magazine this week was the story about this newest restaurant in downtown Oakville and my Bride and I decided to try something new. We had a 6pm reservation. The place was full by 7:30pm on a Saturday. From the moment you are greeted ( thanks Karen) it's a place you want to stay. The decor is nicely done. The staff is quite knowledgeable and very friendly and the food simply stated, is very good. My wife ordered the salmon and it was cooked to her liking although I didn't see couscous on her plate. Regardless, I tasted it all and it was perfect. I ordered the Foie Gras appetizer and it was splendid paired with the suggested Pinot noir. Then came the duck that was truly extraordinary. I don't think I've had a better duck breast entree in over 20 years. John Ross ( The Chef) donning a Jays cap, even took a few minutes to talk prior to the busy period. Super nice guy. Our waiter Warren was super. He and all the others made the experience special. Oakville deserves a great restaurant like this and I wouldn't be surprised it goes to the top of everyone's list of good places for dinner. We are already planning to bring friends and family soon. Wishing them great success. They clearly know what they're doing here and it shows.

Delicious pork chop with spaetzle. Bonus: the pork is raised ethically.

Very good seafood place, and they serve oysters. The staff were friendly and attentive as well. It is a little pricey though.

My limbs, hands, nose, etc. were ice cold 30min into our dining experience. I could have used a heated blanket or snow suit to dine this place. We brought it up to staff and they basically brushed it off and said they were hot so "too bad." Ordered oysters and they came out completely submerged underwater. No joke, my oysters were floating in a pool. I think they let them sit in the kitchen for a while before they came out. Considered asking for a fresh order (and they offered) but was worried they would just replate them. Asked for them to be removed from the bill. Not in any hurry to come back... like anytime in the next 8-10yrs. If there was a manger around (never saw one - bunch of kids working), maybe it would be better? Who is the adult in charge at this place? Don't waste your time or money. I hope I don't have the double dragon tonight when I get home.

The place looks like a home that was converted into a restaurant with parking in the back but once you enter, you feel like you are going into one of your Auntie's places for an actual home cooked meal. And they did not disappoint! Each dish was made to order and took a short time but you could tell it was prepared by a chef with a lot of experience and care--just looking at how the veggies were chopped/diced you can see they put their energy into each dish. The flavors were really superb and not at all overpowering and one major bonus--nothing was over salted or over oily as you might think typical Chinese food can get. Our party of 4 loved every bite and finished all our dishes, no leftovers. As you can see in the photos, they make an excellent meal. Prices are also very affordable and competitive with anything near the touristy areas. So if you want a solid, great meal prepared by a true mom & pop kitchen that feels like a home cooked meal, you really gotta try them out. I asked them how business was in summer vs winter and they said it's tough when it's winter (less tourists) but they make it work. It's also nice and quiet/intimate so you can have an actual conversation with your group rather than try to talk over some loud music at a chain restaurant! ----TL;DR---- Pros: excellent Chinese cuisine at very affordable prices and great portions. Not too salty or oily. And super nice, friendly owners who provide great service and great food. Cons: not easy to walk to from the main strip but if you have a car it's an easy drive. Skip the touristy places and come here! Bottom Line: it was the best meal we had in Niagara Falls and everyone was full and satisfied. I'd definitely go back again.

Nestled along the shores of Lake Ontario in Vineland, this storied establishment, housed in a structure dating to 1867, has become one of those places that quietly lodges itself in the memory and refuses to leave. We made the drive -- well over an hour -- for a Sunday brunch, and not for the first time. It is the kind of restaurant one finds oneself recommending without hesitation, not as a curiosity or a seasonal indulgence, but as a benchmark. The setting alone would justify the journey: a sweeping, unobstructed view of the lake from the sunroom and patio that shifts in character with the light, the season, and the mood of the sky above. On a clear day, the Toronto skyline is visible on the horizon -- an almost implausible grace note. But Lake House does not rest on its scenery. The kitchen demonstrates genuine culinary ambition with a menu that draws from Mediterranean traditions while remaining grounded in local and seasonal sensibility. The salmon crab cakes -- a pairing that sounds indulgent and delivers accordingly -- arrive with a pineapple and mango chutney and sriracha aioli that balance richness with levity. The Great Canadian Burger is a study in considered indulgence: brioche, peameal bacon, sweet bacon jam, and spiced maple aioli achieving a harmony of sweetness, heat, and savoriness that lingers well past the last bite. The service matched the occasion throughout. From the welcome at the door to our server Rhonda -- attentive, warm, and precisely calibrated in her pacing -- to the supervisor who moved quietly through the room ensuring that every table was well attended, the floor operates with the kind of seamless, unhurried care that is too often mistaken for effortlessness. It is not effortless. It is practiced and deliberate, and all the more impressive for it. Lake House Restaurant is a destination that justifies the drive, rewards the return, and -- in a dining landscape where so few establishments manage all three -- that is no small thing.

If you enjoy condiments the semolina crusted calamari ($26) comes with four dipping sauces:…read moresweet-curried aioli, sweet chili, basil pesto aioli, and sriracha aioli. It would've been nice if at least one packed a bit of heat, but they're all tame, adding flavour without overpowering the squid. Thankfully, the semolina crust was excellent - crunchy, light, and not oily at all. The portion is generous and easily shareable between two or three people. A newer addition to the menu is the short rib sandwich ($34), and it's a good one. Large chunks of tender, flavourful beef are topped with sautéed mushrooms, crispy onions, arugula, and brie. The cheese adds a creamy richness that makes the sandwich stand out. The menu notes a horseradish aioli, but any zing from it gets buried under the slightly sweet braising sauce, which was too sugary for my taste. I would've preferred it kept more savoury. The sandwich is already quite saucy, and yet more sauce arrives on the side. Good for fries if you choose to switch the salad to spuds. After hearing plenty about the Great Canadian Burger ($29), I couldn't resist splitting one, though I ultimately wish I hadn't. The short rib sandwich is better. The burger is hefty, with a thick beef patty that's overly dense and heavily mixed, giving it more of a frozen-patty texture than the crumbly tenderness of a good homemade one. The potato bun also struggled to hold up against the avalanche of toppings: grilled peameal bacon, cheddar, onion, tomato, arugula, pickle, and two sauces. I'm not sure why the kitchen insists on sweetening everything - the burger comes with caramelized onion bacon jam and a maple chipotle aioli, both quite sugary. If you enjoy sweeter savoury dishes, you'll probably like it. Otherwise, I'd skip the handhelds. On our weekday lunch visit, the restaurant was well staffed and attentive. Even though we never felt rushed, we were in and out within about an hour. If anything, the service bordered on overly attentive... during that hour we were interrupted six times by four different people checking if everything was okay. My suggestion: let the primary server handle most of the check-ins, and only have others step in if things get busy.

Highly recommend that & the black forest roll as well! They also have a great seasoning selection, definitely a wider variety than your average spot and their ponzu is so much better than your standard brisket sauce!! Service was friendly, efficient, and attentive. They did a great job at keeping our table clean, waters topped up, and grills changed when needed. Seating is ample and comfortable. Also LOVE that they had Melona as one of their dessert options even though we were too stuffed for anything sweet towards the end. 4.8 stars but I'm still giving 5 only because they didn't have beef belly (BRUH) which is a KBBQ/JBBQ staple ;-; and my personal favorite, otherwise would be a solid 5.
