Small family run pho place that always takes us to our happy place. We really enjoy their broth. For a small shop that doesn't try very hard to sell themselves, they do really well. They draw in a lot of repeat business. Something about the humble restaurant, but yet a very tasty bowl of pho has people coming back. We have visited a number of times and would recommend it if you're looking for a casual bowl of pho. No bells and whistles.
Their Banh Cuon is THE BEST! From texture to filling and their fish sauce. Everything here is actually really tasty and authentic plus super affordable. Only negative thing about this place is that it's very small and not much seating.
This rice rolls of banh Cuon from this place was soooo good, I could just eat the dough without stuffing all day? You enter this small East Chinatown vietamese restaurant on Sunday morning, you see a couple of solo senior Asian ladies all eating this plate of banhcuon. Then you better order the same plate! It was soft, but still bouncy, thin but not too thin, fresh, very delightful to chew. It was so good that I would think it will cure Sunday hangover instantly. Yet, too bad that I was not crazy about Bon Bo Hue and Pho much. Broth was not right and blood cube did not taste too fresh. Sticky rice and mungbean steamed in lotus leaves were interesting just because when I bought it, I asked the lady what was in it, I did not really understand her. I really did not know what to expect inside.
Not sure if I came on a bad day or ordered the wrong things, but I don't get the hype. My wife and I came here for lunch and got vermicelli (one with chicken and spring rolls, the other with beef, pork sausage and spring rolls). Quality of the meat wasn't the best, the spring rolls were weirdly a bit fatty, and the noodles were thicker than usual vermicelli. I guess of all the meats the pork sausage was the tastiest. We also got shakes (durian and jackfruit) and they were really watered down (tasted almost like blended ice with a dollop of syrup to make it taste like the fruit). Service was efficient even if the place was packed. Bonus stars for the amount of food you get for the price (each vermicelli was just $13 and you get a good size bowl). Not for me, but hey, looks like I'm in the minority here.
Que Ling is easy to overlook as it is tucked behind a plant shop off the main road. You have to look for the bright yellow sign peaking out from behind the endless shelves of greenery to find it. Like many of the restaurants in East Chinatown, it seems to be a family run restaurant. They have maximized their space by creating a patio on the sheltered porch and in the garage to allow for patrons to eat on the premises. No indoor dining at the time of this review. You go inside to order and they bring the food out to you. I had Item 25. It was a generous portion of food, filling up the takeout container to the brim. The Bun dish had some been sprouts tucked under a mound of thick vermicelli noodles and topped with grilled BBQ meat, sausage and a spring roll. Two sprigs of parsley and a little tub of sauce rounded up the meal. Since the noodles themselves do not have flavor, the sauce really helped punch up the sweet and sour to balance the salty BBQ flavors of the meat. It was only $13 all in! My friends enjoyed their meals also, commenting that the iced coffee was STRONG but good. As a treat for later, they also got some of the mochi. I've never had that before, but it was interesting. They look liked green hockey pucks speckled with black flecks, with a yellow bean filling. Not a very sweet dessert, more on the herbal side of Asian snacks.
If you are looking for authentic and hearty Vietnamese food, this is the place to go! The service is amazing and they care a lot about how the food taste. Their number 1 is the best. I ate so many. Definitely would come back whenever I can. EDIT: the best bun rieu I've had in a long time. Made me miss my grandma's cooking will be coming back for the bun rieu 150%

A perfect no frills neighborhood spot for amazing Viet food. We went on a Sunday, and there was a bit of a wait. The restaurant was small but packed with people. Don't expect a great atmosphere or great service, but I can guarantee you the food is good and affordable. I got Bun Bo Hue, which is a noodle soup from Central Vietnam with beef, pork, blood cakes, and crab/shrimp balls paired with thick round noodles in a spicy lemongrass bone broth. Amazing for a cold winter day. Bring cash but they accept e-transfers. Would definitely come back whenever I crave Viet food.
Got the Pho with rare beef for takeaway. It was $11 including tax. It was a decent portion (including beef), but not huge like many places. The pho was pretty good, with pretty tasty soup. The beef was supposed to be rare but I got it as a takeaway and 1.5 hrs later when I opened the box it wasn't rare - it was probably cooked by the warm noodles. Had the bahn cuon with meat (Vietnamese rice rolls aka chee cheong fun). They were really good. The skin was quite soft & the stuffing was tasty, with quite a lot of meat (and a bit of mushroom - probably not 'authentic'). They came with some spam too. The small portion was pretty big. The spring rolls were OK. They were smooth skinned, not the net kind. There was quite a bit of meat. They tasted OK & were somewhat crispy.
This is definitely a mom and pop's, hole-in-wall, no frills Vietnamese restaurant. But oh man, the flavours in the this pho dat biet is unparalleled. The broth is so fragrant with the spices dancing on your palate. The spring roll is only okay. But definitely one of the best pho restaurants in Toronto for the quality of pho.

Have always wanted to try Que Ling and was happy to see they've reopened for takeout. Part of what had stopped me from visiting before was because I wasn't sure they had a vegetarian option from the images online, but with their menu posted on door, I was thrilled to see they do have vegetarian pho. While noodle soup may not have the rep of being good for takeout, Que Ling bas their packaging figured out. I for m'y pho noodles, sprouts and herbs, with lime wedge and chili pepper in a foam box, and piping hot soup with tofu and veggies in a tub---easy for transport, no spills or accidents for my 20 min walk home. Food itself is so tasty, and I can't wait to revisit with friends when lockdown ends. Overall highly recommended, I walked in spontaneously, got a shake, two of their artemisia leaves cakes, the noodles and everything came to $19 even. The order was ready quickly and staff were happy to show me the size of their sticky rice plus give me tips on how to keep them in the fridge/freezer--very friendly service!
Que Ling Restaurant is a small Vietnamese restaurant that is hidden down a street off Gerrard. It can be hard to miss hidden gem if you do not know what you are looking for. The restaurant is only open until 6 or 7pm I believe so if you do want to dine there for dinner, you'll have to go earlier. Que Ling has that hole in the wall vibe but don't let the interior fool you, this place is great of you want that bowl of pho or that banh cuon. I dined at Que Ling on a weekday evening and ordered a small order of banh cuon and a small pho. The small order of banh cuon had about 6-8 rice noodle rolls a 2 slices of sausage. The pho did not have a lot of MSG and the fresh chilis they had really made a huge difference in the broth. Definitely one of the best pho joints I've had and the banh cuon was great as well. After traveling to Vietnam this past year, Que Ling is definitely on my radar as a great place to hit up for some good Vietnamese food. Will definitely be back for more!
This place looks pretty sketchy from the outside. Lots of random chairs and stuff around the entrance and need to walk up the driveway to get to the doorway. Once you get past the looks, you'll see it's a place where the locals go. It's small, but they've optimized the seating as much as possible. They're known for their bahn cuon, and I love bahn cuon, so definitely got one to try. It's good, but on the simpler side. There aren't many restaurants that do these, so I would have been pretty excited if I hadn't already found my spot for them. They're not served warm and the sides are the vietnamese deli meats. My go to spot for bahn cuon is Linh Ahn (Markham location). They are double the price, but served hot and lots of different options for sides. It was worth the try and if I still lived downtown without a car, I'd probably make a trip every so often. Service is quick. Not sure if this place was cash only as I always bring cash to Chinatown. read more
It's been a while since I last visited this spot since I'm no longer as close as before. However, it's just as good especially the banh cuon, best in the city. I tried something different this time which is their version of bun rieu cua. It's good no doubt though I've had better in other places for a higher price point, but still at $15, I've yet to see one better or on par. Next time, I'll stick to their regular pho, I like their chicken one with glass noodles. It seems like they only serve their pho in one size here. Not sure if it's a recent change or it's always been like that. Cash only. read more
I've been hearing great reviews about this place for authentic home-style vietnamese food and decided to try. I was craving some banh cuon so I got an order with some spring rolls on the side. The interior is small but has decent seating. Right away, we were given tea to start with. There are sauces on each table, including fish sauce, oyster sauce, sriracha, vinegar, and chili oil. The banh cuon was served with lettuce, cha lua (viet sausage), a side sauce, lime and freshly chopped peppers. The ground meat filling was super flavourful and the noodle layer was silky smooth. It came out warm and exactly how I liked it - great deal for $12 a plate! The spring rolls were crispy, but the frying oil tasted a bit old. They also have large bowls of pho at affordable prices and vermicelli noodles. If you plan to stop by, be sure to bring cash as they are a cash-only establishment. We paid at the counter and the prices were taxes in. read more

Que Ling is a Vietnamese restaurant in East Chinatown located on Boulton Ave just off Gerrard St East. It's a house that's been converted into a restaurant and the living room has been converted into the dining area. I have been going to East Chinatown for the past 15 years every few weeks to get my haircut and as a child my family and I use to go to Pearl Court for dinner every Saturday night. The area has changed a lot and is a neighbourhood that's quickly gentrifying. In 10-15 years, there might not be an East Chinatown, the way the area is gentrifying. There are also more Vietnamese restaurants in the area than Chinese restaurants and Que Ling is one of them. I have eaten at Que Ling over the years or have gotten takeout after getting my haircut. Que Ling in the Vietnamese community has always had a reputation for having one of the best banh cuon offerings in the city but their other dishes are just considered okay but at the same time they are probably one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in East Chinatown overall. I had dinner there recently by myself and ordered a large pho dac biet ($8.00 plus tax), deep fried spring rolls ($3.50 plus tax) and an avocado shake ($3.50 plus tax). The pho was just okay, broth was decent, noodles were cooked right, quality of meat wasn't too good. Overall, just a decent bowl of pho. Deep fried spring rolls were good, good balance of stuffing ranging from pork, taro and shrimp. Outside shell was cooked right. Decent fish sauce. Overall, Que Ling is very reasonably priced and a good option for Vietnamese food in East Chinatown. The dish where they really stand out is their banh cuon, their other dishes imo are just okay. read more
A very small hole in the wall type of Vietnamese restaurant located on the outskirts of downtown Toronto, east of the Don Valley Parkway. Situated in sort of a back corner on Gerard street behind a flower shop, it can be a bit difficult to find especially since the signage is on the smaller side. Once you enter you'll notice the restaurant is actually an old town home which was renovated to accommodate a kitchen plus sitting area on the main floor and washrooms in the basement. Order: 1)Bamboo Shoots and Duck Noodles in Soup 2) Avacado Shake Meat portions were on the smaller side and the soup flavour was a bit mild. Bamboo Shoots not my favourite, but overall ok. The Avocado shake was not very good, tasted watered down. *****For the size S order the bowl that they give you is too small for the amount of soup that they pour inside. Eating out of that bowl is a spill disaster waiting to happen, be prepared to have a messy experience if you're not careful. They are stingy on taking napkins too so this can be a problem.***** read more

Truly authentic Vietnamese flavors. This place is a hole in the wall and they have great prices. Hands down my favorite dish is the Bun Bo Hue and I think it's the best of the town! Love this place and frequent it weekly. read more
Walking through Broadview Chinatown brings back so many memories as much of my childhood was spent here where I lived. Over the years the area has gentrified with the old Asian stores and restaurants replaced slowly but surely by more hip and modern establishments. Que Ling still has that old school vibe as its a family run joint located in an old house just off Gerrard Street. Here they serve simple Vietnamese fare from pho noodles, vermicelli and rice dishes but the real reason you must come is for their every so popular Banh Cuon aka Rice Rolls. A thin crepe like sheet made from rice flour that is wrapped with a filling of ground pork and wood ear mushroom. These ever so delectable rolls are served with slices of cha lua (vietnamese ham) topped with fried shallots and dipped in nuoc cham (fish sauce). If you are only eating one thing, this is well worth the trip down here. I've yet to find a place in the GTA that serves this better. All the other dishes here are very good too but the stand out is the Banh Cuon. Price point everything is in the $7-$10 range so this place offers excellent value with the portions on the average size. The place is very small so will be slammed during lunch and dinner rush. Solid 4/5. For the Banh Cuon alone they are a 5+!! Yum!!!! read more

My fave pho in town, hands down. I grew up in Toronto and all the pho around town all have that fake universal pho-restaurant taste, which is never like homemade pho. The pho here is flavorful and hearty and tastes like the broth was simmered properly with proper ingredients. read more

What a bargain! You can't get viet food at this price any where else. We ordered spring rolls, banh Cuong and bun bo hue with a durian milk shake. The bill was $22!!!! I liked the texture of the banh Cuong, it was smooth and soft however I wish there was a bit more filling inside. My husband's bun bo hue was very flavourful and tasty but we noticed there wasn't a lot of meat. I really liked the springs rolls because there was a lot more veggies than meat but to each its own. The durian milkshake was more on the icy side then smoothy side which would have been my preference. This place is really small and a bit dirty so despite the value, I won't be making a trip just to eat here but if you are in the neighbourhood, it's worth dropping in. read more

My husband and I walked at 9:15am this morning, and they welcomed us in even though they're just prepping to be open. We were initially waiting for another brunch place to open, but we wandered in to Que Ling for their Vietnamese steamed rice rolls. Their rice rolls come in large ($6.25) or small ($5.31). It's really good, and economical. The delicate rice rolls are stuffed with minced meat then steamed to perfect goodness. It's paired with a dipping sauce composed of fish sauce, garlic and chillies. It's our go to dish at Que Ling when we're craving it. My husband and I loved the fact that they welcomed us instead of turning us away when they're not really open. read more
