I love this place and these people…read more My husband is active duty USAF, and currently deployed since I was nearly half way thru my pregnancy. It's been emotional to put it gently. However, the wonderful women at The Birth Centre of Charlottesville have been by my side during this difficult season. Together, they create a peaceful, safe, and welcoming environment for expecting mommas. I just delivered my 3rd baby, and I'm so thankful I was able to have her here. I have two other children, who were delivered at nearby hospitals. If I could go back and come to the Birth Centre instead, I would. Janna and Millie cared for baby and I so well after my delivery. I'm so thankful for them. I hope more mommas realize giving birth in a welcoming, loving, warm environment like this one, where you are heard and respected, is so much better than most L&D hospital experiences. I'd like to add, the waiting area is also wonderful if you have other kiddos. There are such fun toys for them to play with. I was shamed, manipulated, disrespected, lied to, coerced into making decisions that were not in the best interest of myself and the baby. I felt small, disempowered, unsupported, uncared for, vulnerable, and violated. I have posted a longer review on Google and Facebook (although it seemed they disable the reviews of FB so you might not see it). If I had stayed at the Birth Center, I wouldn't have dilated. My labor stopped progressing and at 7cm I regressed to 6cm because my cervix was swollen but it took begging the midwives to take me to the hospital 6 times before they finally relented. I am certain that if I hadn't gone to UVA, my baby, I, or both of us would have died at the Birth Center. Unfortunately, I am so traumatized by the mistreatment, coercion, lying, belittling, and manipulation that I experienced at the Birth Center that I don't think I will ever be able to trust midwives ever again. It has taken me more than a year to write this review because I experienced PTSD whenever I thought about how horrible they were and how my baby's life was endangered by their carelessness. I hope this helps someone else avoid this experience.

I had hired another doula for my second son's birth and Brittany was my doula's backup person to allow for breaks/etc. At my birth, it was the first time I had met Brittany. At first, I was uneasy because you want your doula there and although I was okay to have my doula switch with her backup - I was at my most vulnerable state. But the thing is, when you meet Brittany - she is the most caring, supportive, loving, kind, and respectful person. I know why my doula chose her to be her backup and I am thankful she was there at my birth. She's just as amazing as my doula. I instantly felt a connection, felt loved and supported and I couldn't imagine my birth with her or my other doula. I was so thankful to have both doulas present during my births. She made it extra special for being there by my side, even though we just met at the hospital. I LOVE Brittany and all of the support she gave me and my doula. Having her by your side is the best decision you can make for you and your baby. To begin with she took the time to truly get to know my husband and I (and even our shy dog). She never made us feel rushed during our appointments and was constantly available to answer questions and concerns. During labor (30 hours) Brittany made the experience truly enjoyable. She gave my husband the guidance and confidence to assist me through labor as a team. Brittany also helped dramatically with pain relief through massage and relaxation techniques. She helped us to make informed decisions throughout what could have seemed like a somewhat complicated labor. Because of Brittany my husband and I worked through labor together and felt very happy with our decisions. Brittany also took some incredible photos during labor that I will cherish forever. After birth she has continued to be a pillar of support for our new family. She continues to check in on me and makes sure that I have everything that I need to be a happy, healthy mama. In November, I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and hospitalized. Due to my condition, I had to deliver my baby early via emergency c-section at just over 31 weeks. My baby is currently in the NICU. I wasn't able to have a prenatal in-home visit due to my hospitalization and was given very short notice of my emergency C-section due to my declining health. After my birth, I was put on magnesium, and my baby was sent to the NICU. My husband and I were both so terrified that the last thing I was thinking about was having my doula attend. I was afraid for me and my baby. I reached out to Shannon after my birth and asked if I could cancel the postpartum doula services because of the new financial strain of NICU costs/my hospitalization. She informed me that if I canceled the postpartum doula services, that both contracts would be void, and all services would be considered rendered. Remember, I did not receive a prenatal visit nor birth services due to my medical condition & hospitalization. The contract I signed stated that if the doula wasn't at your birth, you would be entitled to eight hours of postpartum services. Shannon explained that because I paid a 50% deposit on both services, none of the services were paid in full so I would receive nothing else moving forward. Although we had paid $3050 and the birth doula services were $2100, I would need to pay an additional $900 in order to receive the eight hours of postpartum services. She said I could "take it or leave it" and that she would not move money from one contract to another. I was shocked at her response. There was no solution offered where I could receive any services post-birth for the $3050 we had paid. More money had to be paid. This was literally the worst experience of my entire life, and I received no care or compassion at all from Shannon. She maintained that her responsibility was to her staff/business. During our phone call, I was talking about my hospitalization and she mentioned that all of her clients were hospitalized. I clarified that I wasn't hospitalized because I was giving birth. I was hospitalized due to severe preeclampsia and potential organ failure. Trying to work things out with her made a horrible situation even more stressful and terrible. She refuses to budge and maintains that we will not receive any postpartum services if we don't pay extra. My husband and I feel as though we have paid $3050 and have received nothing. We did not receive a prenatal appointment, doula birth services, or any postpartum care. Please see the last email I received from her.

Everyone was attentive not only to my daughter's needs, but the father's and mine as well. I expected to be seen as an intrusion or a distraction; I couldn't have been more wrong. There were no nurses bustling about, no strangers coming and going, and no smell of disinfectant. Jeanmarie was never alone in the room, one of the midwives was there at all times. Sometimes offering advice or encouragement, sometimes sitting quietly in a corner, sometimes reminding Jeanmarie to loosen her muscles or breathe deeply or have a sip of water. It was all about my daughter and her baby, not about fetal monitors or updating her chart. (Everything was charted, but quietly and not in lieu of tending to the new mom.) The room was warm, comfortable, and clean, and there was an atmosphere of calm anticipation. Jeanmarie chose the position most comfortable and productive for her. She was encouraged to vocalize during contractions. She was encouraged to nibble and sip during labor, which shocked and thrilled me. (My first labor was 36 hours. I was not allowed to change position or get out of bed, and taking a bite of cracker or a sip of water was strictly forbidden. What a fantastic difference from Jeanmarie's compassionate caregivers!) I was concerned about the 'what-ifs' - what if she starts to bleed, what if she loses consciousness, what if her birth canal was too small? They have a plan in place for anything unexpected and are watching everything more closely than they let on. Their priority was Jeanmarie's comfort, progress, and well-being. Thank you, Brookhaven staff. Forgive me, I've already forgotten your names but I will never forget how pleased and impressed I am with my only daughter's first childbirth experience. Grandma R.

I did see another review where a customer allegedly felt Faith made some between-the-lines implications for leaving a review and I see where they would think that as Faith reached out to me about this review in a very threatening manner, stating they are noting this record and it may violate Yelps content/ privacy standards and apparently has asked for its removal. Yikes! *END EDIT Absolutely avoid this business at all costs. They have you pay your entire contract upfront - which is almost unheard of. The rate is nonrefundable, even if they do not provide you services. I'm out over $2k because we cancelled our contract early after 8 no-show night nannies. 8 times their employee either didn't show up or cancelled hours before. The last night nanny that called out day of service even contacted us saying that if we get a refund, she doesn't get paid. The company lied and exaggerated issues for no shows to make it more justifiably (as seen in the text attached). The nanny called us night of the accident saying she was fine AND she was on a flight for a trip the next day. Faith called it a "near deadly accident". Disgusting business dealings. Not only are they lying, but also putting them in such a desperate situation where the nanny is forced to reach out to the customer and guilt us to not taking a refund (second pic). We've since found another company to work with and they have been amazing, reliable, and professional.

Leaving this review just so people know the agency believes they can't confirm vaccination status of its providers or require that providers be vaccinated. The founder said very few people get the flu shot anymore - big red flag! Edit: Since leaving this review, the company has contacted us implying that our negative review might come to the attention of our employers. I'm curious to see their response! What an experience. Buyer beware. Edit 2: Their reply here says they never said they'd contact our employers. Here is what they said, verbatim: that we would "receive a public response from us where it's discoverable by your employer and anyone else that may want to help your family in the future." At 37, I was overjoyed to see that long-awaited result. After reading many positive reviews, I chose August Healthcare because they offered the services I needed and accepted my insurance. My first appointment was at eight weeks, despite my high-risk circumstances, including being of advanced maternal age and overweight. The ultrasound revealed no heartbeat, and my progesterone levels were low. A midwife coldly told us that things like this often don't work out, and when we asked if anything could be done, she bluntly asked if I was upset. I held it together in the office but cried all the way home. My husband and I had been trying to conceive since we met, experiencing two miscarriages and four years of infertility. After finally getting pregnant again, we thought we had received a miracle. But the midwife's words crushed us, and we left feeling hopeless. Three months later, I became pregnant again. I contacted the clinic immediately, and though nothing showed on the ultrasound, my progesterone was low. I requested progesterone supplementation, and they prescribed it. Despite my age and weight, the pregnancy progressed without complications, and I was instructed to come in weekly for fetal non-stress tests due to my high-risk status. However, things became stressful. They told me if I paid $250 upfront, everything up through my child's birth would be covered, I later found out this wasn't true. Each week, I drove over three hours to the clinic, and the table was positioned far back, making the tests uncomfortable. One week, the baby's heart rate dipped twice, and I was sent to the hospital for monitoring. After two hours, everything was normal. I was reassured, though the uncertainty weighed heavily on me. The following week, there was another dip in the baby's heart rate, but the doctor dismissed it. Trusting the midwife, I agreed to an induction, even though my husband and I had previously doubted it. I didn't fully understand the risks, and I later learned inductions are often pushed because they're profitable, especially for women like me. I had been clear about avoiding a C-section, but my induction didn't go as planned. I arrived with no dilation or effacement, and my baby was in a "sunny-side-up" position. The odds of a successful vaginal birth were slim, but no one explained this to me. After three days of induction with little progress, I was 9 1/2 cm dilated when I was finally ready to push. The midwife and doctor weren't present for most of my labor, and when they arrived, they decided a C-section was necessary due to baby distress. I was unprepared and terrified. The C-section itself was quick, but when my son was born, there was an eerie silence. My husband later told me my son had inhaled meconium. Despite the trauma, I didn't get to hold my son for skin-to-skin contact, and none of the birth plan I had hoped for was honored. My son was fed through a tube for almost a week, and I later learned the heart rhythm they monitored was actually normal for a newborn. Induction, which was recommended to me, may have stressed his heart further. The hospital kept my son in the NICU for two weeks, claiming he wasn't eating enough, however they were only supposed to treat him for the meconium inhalation. He was a completely normal weight. The billing situation was another nightmare. Despite paying $250 upfront, I continued to receive bills for services I thought were covered. Even after signing up with a repayment agency, I received a letter from a collection agency about outstanding bills from August Medical Group. I'm sharing my story as a warning to others. If you can avoid this hospital or healthcare group, do so. While they may be suitable in emergencies, if you're having a healthy pregnancy, be cautious. Induction can lead to unexpected consequences, and you may not leave the hospital with the outcome you expected.
