    Sound for the Dead.
    Martin S.

I really enjoyed the "Jazz is Dead" show that we went to on a Sunday evening. What was the most impressive about it was the size, wow it's really huge. It seems almost square in size instead of being a narrow space, it's super wide where you almost can't see the opposite side. And the stage is equally wide. It's the size of one of those gigantic stages they have for big outdoor events. Unbelievable how many people could be on there at the same time. The lobby is equally gigantic. The ceiling height is massive and there are stairs that lead from the lobby up to a second level that looked to be leading to balcony seats. We asked about that and turns out there's a nightclub up there! The place is so big that you wouldn't even know that unless someone clued you in. The other thing that was equally impressive is the sound quality, probably because of the space, but regardless, I've never heard sound that clear from a rock band, except maybe that high end places like the Glenn Gould Studio. Very clear sound without echoing and obviously capable equipment to make that happen. Security was pretty casual, and we were able to smuggle in flasks since beers are about $15 each so it made sense to bring some of your own in to make it more fun if it's a rockin' type of show. Highly recommended!

Went to Queen Elizabeth Theatre to attend the Scandal Concert back in the summer time. The staff was very organized with getting everyone into the concert. The seats were super comfortable and I was able to see the stage well from my seat.

I worked three different summers at the Canadian National Exhibition in my high school and undergraduate years. I visited and walked by the Queen Elizabeth Building countless times. How come I never knew about the Queen Elizabeth Theatre until I booked ticket to see Erasure at this venue?! I drove down there on a Tuesday evening. It was pouring rain. I saw some staff members on strike in front of the venue. I was also trying to figure out where to park. Finally, I pulled into a lot across from BMO Field's gate 4. I spoke to a friendly woman who said that parking was $12. Credit cards are accepted. I was thrilled. I parked and walked over to the theatre. Apparently, this theatre has been there since 1956 and was renovated as a concert venue in 2010. After you go through security (I opened my purse up and had the security guy peruse), the lobby greats you. It is cozy and inviting. You can grab a drink from the bar and sit down in a comfy chair. The doors to the theatre opened and we all walked in. It was my first time at the venue. I got help with getting to the right row and seats. There isn't a bad seat in the house. The acoustics were great. It's an intimate venue. It does get a bit stuffy when it's hot and humid outside, though. Perhaps the combination of other Erasure fans being there and all of us dancing made the theatre's temperature rise. I had a terrific time seeing Erasure. It had been a decade since I last saw this duo. Although there are roughly eight stalls in the women's washroom, expect a wait. Otherwise, it's a great place to see a show. (289)

Also, I have read the book and movie adaptation many years ago so I didn't remember much. The Outsiders was amazing. It was pretty similar to the book and movie but there were some changes. The music and songs (mainly the group ones) seem have a similar volume to concerts. The lines (non music parts) were understandable. In terms of seating, I would pick the elevated levels (dress or balcony) compared to the (back) orchestra. Entering was straight forward. They don't really check bags. They may check larger bags like backpacks. You can bring and fill empty clear plastic water bottle at the bar (on the 2nd floor). Drinks, snacks and popcorn are your typical staples and are priced similar to other venues.

Note the current theatre name is CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre but be careful not to mix this up with Mirvish's other CAA Theatre that is 20 minutes walk north. You must make a reservation (online or by phone). It's about $82 per adult at the time of posting. Green P parking is available behind the restaurant, but it's paid (I went on a Sunday and it was $15 flat rate). It's a short walk to the front entrance (about 3 min). I strongly recommend you come early, because it's first come first served. The earlier you arrive, the closer to the stage your seat is. Once you're inside, you have to check in with the hosts and pick up your team crowns. You can also browse and shop aound for medieval props and accessories, though it is also available post-dinner. You can also go to one of the desks and request additional add ons, like a birthday scroll and announcement ($18+tax) or a knighting ceremony ($22+tax?). There are no utensils for dinner. Only wet wipes and napkins. Strongly recommend bringing your own utensils if you require them, or disposable gloves like we did. You can find their menu online, but you get tomato basil soup, garlic bread, a drink (Pepsi or water), baked potato, chicken leg, corn cob, and a dessert (eclair). The soup was good, baked potato was dry, chicken leg was dry and huge, and corn cob was sad (mushy). Eclair was also not good (couldn't even finish it). We did have lots of leftovers to take home (mostly chicken legs). The service was top notch and the show was very good. As an adult, you can tell it's very much rehearsed and choreographed, but it's fun cheering for your team and getting immersed. We had some first-timers in our group (grandma included) and they enjoyed it very much. TLDR I wouldn't come here often, nor only for food, but it's a nice celebration once in a while!

And the only thing I've ever liked is the dragons blood aka tomato soup. Chicken is dry and corn on the cob is mushy, etc. There is nothing for me to look forward to; I know exactly what they're serving and the only dish I really like is the soup * the show doesn't change. It's a great show but the same thing over and over. There's no excitement left to be had. Nothing new to discover. I think it's awesome if it's your first time going but when there nothing new happening and the food isn't blowing you away, there's just not much reason to go back. But if you've never been I highly recommend you go at least once to enjoy the unique experience. Parking is confusing; there's only one way in and one way out and they're not near each other. A bunch of people had to turn around, including us. You do have to pay for parking too, but you can park there for a long long time, so me and my friend went on a nice long walk afterwards as it was a beautiful day. Parking was $15.

I have driven by this area many times this year. I did a few times when going to Coca-Cola Coliseum for Marlies and PWHL Toronto (now Sceptres) hockey games. Last night, I passed by it heading to Queen Elizabeth Theatre for a concert. I remember when this space was used for parking during the Canadian National Exhibition (The Ex). It was affordable back in the day. You basically parked on the grass, paid for parking, and walked over to the Princess Gates. Good times. Parking for The Ex is atrocious these days. It's better to take the TTC, mainly because this parking space is gone and it's cheaper than shelling out over $30. If you are looking for parking near The Bentway, you've got a couple of Green P options: - 250 Fort York Boulevard - 800 Fleet Street Paying through the Green P app is convenient. If you need to extend your parking stay, it's easy to do through the app than physically returning to the parking machine to pay for parking. The Bentway is popular in the wintertime. It becomes a skating rink where you can rent skates, skate till your heart's content, and grab some hot chocolate. In the summertime, it becomes a rollerskating party every month. You can rent skates, grab a bite to each from food trucks, and visit a few market vendors. I am looking forward to Dominoes. It's basically a community-building activity of laying down giant dominoes along a 2.5 km path through a number of downtown neighbourhoods. They are cutting through The Bentway. The domino run is scheduled for September 22 (tomorrow). It sounds like a lot of fun! The downside is that traffic is horrible in this area. There was a concert and an Argos game at Exhibition Place yesterday. Cutting through this area to get there was painful. When there aren't a lot of activities in the area, The Bentway is a calming, fun place. Otherwise, pack some patience! (371)
