Not a student but a guest of the college for an event for my daughter's Tae Kwon Do tournament. Plenty of on-site parking off the street if you show up early for your event. Signage was clear and the staff on hand were friendly and helpful. The gymnasium was able to fit hundreds of people at once for 21 separate rings of competition. read more

I've been a college student here since spring '24 and needless to say my academic experience has been great, however my experience dealing with security for on-campus parking has been a NIGHTMARE; Officer Thompson and Sunshine specifically have heckled me since the minute I arrived. First they started telling me to remove my window tints because the security guards have issue seeing my plate because they refuse to walk 10 feet to look at it. I purchased a decal today to start my final semester of college and I was told to park off campus grounds to which I came back to 2 tickets. After putting the decal on, I'm now told I'm unable to park inside the campus ground before 2pm. My entire experience with Queens College could have been much better, but they are a business and nothing more. If you want to park on campus, you should be prepared to spend some extra money because they'll somehow find a reason to write you up a ticket. Also, this campus has buildings so old and out dated, it really makes you wish you chose another school. I've taken 5 summer classes and have seen nothing but roaches everywhere. I used to spend my time on campus, especially the Benjamin S. Rosenthal Library and Klapper Hall (art building). The campus hasn't changed much. I recently visited the campus. It is still as peaceful as before and it is still clean on the quad. It is about 30 minutes from Main Street, Flushing. The commute is a bit difficult in my opinion because of the construction on Main Street, but there are a couple of buses that go to the campus Q17, Q25, and Q34, to the main entrance. I'm a procrastinator by nature. The simple fact that I graduated in May of 2013 and am only now reviewing my Alma mater in January is testament enough to that fact, but to put the exclamation point on it - I'm 37! Yes, at the ripe old age of 37, I finally received my Bachelor's degree and I credit my success to three things: 1) My determination to better myself and my prospects 2) An amazingly supportive wife 3) The faculty and staff of Queens College. Since I'm not going to toot my own horn (any further) and my wife would kill me if I shared our relationship details, I'm only going to refer to my experiences with the people of QC. From the beginning, QC made success very attainable. Now I didn't say "easy," because it wasn't. It was "attainable" and as long as something is "attainable," it's worth trying. Applying is a simple matter of filing the online application ( http://www.qc.cuny.edu/ADMISSIONS/Pages/default.aspx ), submitting any applicable transcripts and filing a FAFSA ( https://fafsa.ed.gov ). QC has an amazingly broad range of majors with a talented and passionate staff. As an Urban Studies major, I dealt mostly with social scientists: Anthropologists, Sociologists, Geographers, Political Science PhDs, Economists, etc. and there was not a single professor that did not impact me in some way. Several of my professors were even well respected leaders of academia in their related fields who could easily make their way without the trouble of dealing with undergrads, but it's their passion that makes them want to share with us. Your entire academic career is saved and served by the CUNY website, CUNYFirst ( https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu/oam/Portal_Login1.html ). While I constantly heard complaints about it, I LOVED CUNYFirstI I began my college career in 1994 @ Brooklyn College at a time when, in order to register you physically had to go to the school, wait on line and pray there were openings in the classes you wanted. It was akin to an on-site Fantasy Football Draft where your entire year would be ruined if someone else got your second round Running Back or Poli-Sci Class. CUNYFirst makes all things dealing with Registrar's, Bursar's and Financial Aid offices a breeze! With it, you can check your grades, plan your coursework, add and drop classes, check Financial Aid status, and hundreds other things I probably never leveraged it for. Aside from the purely academic issues, Queens College has a beautiful and modern campus. The numerous computer labs made completing work a simple task and the Library is an incredible resource that puts many other campus libraries to shame. While not one of my priorities as a married, "mature" (yes, they referred to me as mature) student, I didn't partake in many social functions, however there always seemed to be some organized event happening with the myriad groups, clubs or Greek Life students. And while I never saw the inside of the new on-campus apartments, their exteriors were beautiful, clean and seemed well cared for. My only real complaint was transportation. Parking is an issue as Parking permits are sparse and expensive and on street parking is limited. Rapid transit is not readily available without a transfer to a Bus, but surface transit has multiple lines stopping near the campus. Highway access is simple as the campus straddles the Long Island Expressway. All-in-all, Queens College is an affordable, academic institution which will give you more than a degree. I graduated from Queens College in 2014, my experience here was fairly good. Firstly, I had great professors, the classrooms in the newer buildings were excellent. the older building classrooms had a scent to them especially in the winter when the heaters were blasting and the windows were closed My goal while here was graduating as fast as I could and that Is exactly what I did cramming two years work into one year. One semester I was enrolled in 5 courses so I practically lived in the library for 3 months. The Rosenthal Library is my favorite thing about Queens College. In fact I paid my alumni dues just so that I can enjoy the privileges of using the library. What stands out about the library is SILENCE. I love how quiet it is and there's plenty of floors so there's ample seating. Being a graduate student at LIU Brooklyn I'd say one thing that's missing is a library like Queens college Library. A library where students know that the library is where you go to study and not socialize on maximum speaking volumes Anyway, an added plus is the student government and their active role in trying to bring more to students experience. Today I noticed food trucks near the lawn area this is an added plus and something that's new compared to when I was a student there two years ago. To all the current student: participate in class, it's never failed in helping me achieve a graduating GPA of 3.52 (all my Cum Laude's represent) professors love it when you engage them plus it's a great learning mechanism. And please do take advantage of all the amenities and perks of being a student there. read more

I love this school. And I only feel this way right now because it is my first semester here. The staff on the campus are very friendly and helpful. I havent had any trouble with them at all. The professors are nice , some of them havent really caught up to the technological changes , but in due time they will have no choice. I spend most of my time in the Queens Hall because that were all my classes are held ( linguistics major). It is very clean and quiet. The cafe in that building has very fairly priced items. Queens College at its core is an okay school; this is specifically a complaint towards the Computer Science program at this school. The only decent professor is in the intro course, but after that, you have professors that don't teach you any coding and strictly ramble about theory. It's ridiculous that the only way for you to pass these computer science courses is by ALREADY being extremely knowledgeable in the field. I wasted a lot of time attending here and I'm glad I transferred to another school to learn how to code. read more

I spent three years at Queens College, having graduated in 2017. It was a fine institution that I didn't fully appreciate during my time there. I didn't take advantage of everything it had to offer, and I was an underachiever who took it mostly for granted. The heart of the campus - the quad - is beautiful. The world was bigger back then so I used to not like having to walk, sometimes from opposite ends of the campus to go to class. But if you're bringing in an outsider, you can be proud to show off your school to them. The student body was diverse during my time there. I didn't make friends, but my girlfriend did, as she joined clubs and peer counseling. If you wanted to, you could make friends if you tried. I did meet some weird people: one time, this girl "broke up" with me because I didn't have time to hang out with her outside of class. The funny part was we still had to cooperate on a group project together. Also, one of my least favorite aspects about the students is that a lot of them are turrible drivers. I once witnessed a girl lose her bumper off a curb while doing a simple u-turn. Because I changed majors a few times, I guess you could say I was exposed to different departments. For the most part, the faculty was okay and I can't remember a turrible professor whose guts I hated. From memory, the English department has some inspiring people in their arsenal, such as the memorable Professor John Weir. I also liked some of the professors in the Psychology department, some of whom were cool and laidback. I had some personal problems that I took up with the English department, and I remember getting much needed help, especially from a Professor Balthazar Becker, who I'm very grateful to up to this very day. Some complaints off the top of my head: an outdated website that misled me and swayed my decision to attend this school only to find out that the program I was interested in doesn't exist, free parking that could be hard to find, encountering some people who seemed miserable with their lives, taking a Buddhism class that should've jumpstarted my journey to become a future Buddha but the professor was a narcissist who wanted you to buy her books (now I remember), long and lonely walks underneath the sunset, and... hmmm... I probably repressed the rest. But I do remember many good memories as well... like sitting in one of Professor John Weir's classes and hoping I'd make it out alive, the helpful English department who guided me to the right direction, retreating to the extensive library for a much needed (or unneeded) break, seeing the fine people at Shah's Halal in the cafeteria and eating one of the best halal food I ever had at the time (I wrote a Yelp review on them), watching the amazing Catalyst Quartet in the auditorium, volunteering to be a Junior Marshal at my own commencement and finding out at the last minute that I was going to hold up a banner and lead a line somewhere and not knowing wtf to do, going to my girlfriend's graduation, etc. If I could do it all again: I'd thoroughly research majors and I'd stick with one (I could've been an honor student if I never switched). I would've joined a club and I would've tried to make friends. And finally, I would've attended my own commencement and I would've tried to enjoy it and take it all in. All those moments were fleeting and I never realized until now. If someone who is as miserable as me could get away with some decent memories at Queens College, chances are you would too. If you're looking to attend, best of luck to you. read more

This review is regarding Queens college gym facility. I am not a student here, nor have I attended college here before, but this gym is convenient located and therefore, was the ideal choice for me. I paid for a one year membership ($330 for gym only). If you want to do both gym and swimming, that I believe is approximately $500 for the year. The gym is small but does have all the machines that are necessary to have a good workout. As a result of the gym being too small, the machines feel very cramped and when the gym is busy, it feels like there's no room to walk sometimes. One comment is about the machines that require metal pins to operate and lift the weights, they seem to always be short on those. Shouldn't all machines have their own individual pins?? It doesn't. You'll have to grab a pin from another machine, but if somebody is using that machine, you're just forced to wait. Do I recommend this gym? For $330 for the year, its decent and I would sign up again. read more

Very bad billing and bursar department. i attended Queens College back in 2011 and 2012. I had lost financial aid, which they never told me. I found out in 2013 when I got a bill for 2,300 dollars. Instead of giving me a opportunity to pay it, they sent it to collections agency with added on collection fees going to Queens College. I am still struggling to pay it off since they never told me I owed money for 3 semesters. Watch out for any billing issues read more

Not the greatest College for it's value in my book. I feel like they purposely make things inconvenient for students so they can earn a quick buck in this school. English classes for ESL students for example is a rip off. The amount they charge for full time english courses, you can easily just be a regular full time student earning college credits instead. On top of that, the professors for the ESL courses give you no breaks with the text books either. All of the material can easily be xeroxed or posted online through blackboard or whatever but they insist that you buy the book. And to make matters worse, they don't even sell used books... By the way, I'm not the ESL student. I'm writing up this review on behalf of friends and relatives whom I helped register for this school. I did attend QC myself for summer courses a few years back so this review isn't bs. One thing I do find a bit hilarious is when I hear people complaining about the parking. Seriously? This school is surrounded by residential housing, there's nothing but free parking if you're willing to take a 5 minute walk! The laziness of some of these students amaze me. The most laziest are students who commute from Long Island. They prefer parking at meter spots along the school when they can park 2-5 blocks away instead for free. Schools like La Guardia, now that's a school that has virtually no free parking plus hard to find meter parking. I hear the same excuses for students who attend Queens Borough Community College. It's really not that bad if you'd just walk a few short blocks. Kids today are such whiners. Also, finding a computer lab to print out something seems like a real pain in the ass. You already pay a ridiculous amount for tuition and they don't even cover for paper. You have to register for some kind of card, deposit money into the card and then you can print. To me, all colleges are nothing more than businesses just like every prison across America. It's all about who you know that can help you get through your time. read more

Dude, I actually did have a good time here and learned a thing or two. - I learned that being pre-med wasn't right and I should instead get my deg in Eng Lit. Not a really sound career path as it turns out, but I never had to "study." - I learned how to get to the roof of Kiely Hall. - I learned how to navigate the underground warren that still exists from when the grounds housed a disciplinary school for boys. - I learned to use a rotary saw and tile a wall. - I learned that the weird 5th floor at Klapper was perfect for naps. I actually do believe that a CUNY education is still one of the best you can get in this city, especially for undergrad. QC ranks right up there with the best of them. And yes, you can take that with a grain of salt. read more

Queens College reminds me of the saying about how all things that glitter isn't gold. I graduated on time (no thanks to them) from the college May 2018 with honors. I admit that I was a transfer student so I did come to the school with expectations that maybe someone who went here the whole 4+years didn't. The college is beautiful but what's the point of all its beauty if its not functional? Meaning access to computers and printers is very lacking. In my previous community college the library wasn't as nice but there were multiple computers and printers available. Yes, queens college has a computer labs but I think because they are student run, they are not open on time and printing in them sucks because its only 1 sided printing so that eats up your paper money. The wifi in campus was spotty too if you bring your own laptop and it was hard to find a place to sit with a desk/table and do work. I also implied earlier that they didn't help me graduate on time. What I meant by that is that there are certain classes you have to take and they don't provided them to suit the needs of their students. Who pay tuition I might add! Their scheduling suits their tenure professors. I could go into detail, maybe I will later but the point is, I didn't feel they really care about the students needs especially working parent students like myself. The only good thing about that school is the professors, at least the ones I had. read more

Professors are extremely knowledgeable and genuinely want to teach you and help you succeed. Many of them are leaders in their fields, and will sometimes even appear on TV. Lots of different academic majors and minors are offered here. The curriculum is challenging but well-written. However, administration is cold and uncaring. As a tip, any and all paperwork that you submit to the registrar should be submitted in triplicate, to ensure receipt. If you're a veteran and/or have CLEP credits for transfer, do not be surprised if the school does not accept many of your credits. The campus is large, green, and the grounds are well-maintained. Parking is extremely limited and parking decals ($250ish) are given out by lottery. Public transportation is also a hassle; there are no subway lines close by and the bus lines that serve the school are chronically overcrowded and late. The surrounding neighborhood lacks, well, everything. There's some halal carts, a pizzeria, and a dunkin donuts. The worst part about this school is probably the student body, which consists of commuter students that tend to gravitate towards their former high school cliques. There is no school spirit beyond the occasional advertisements and banners hung from lampposts. You'll get a good education from this place, but don't come if you're expecting that "college experience." read more

Did my grad work here, though was required to take several undergraduate courses. I'd have to say my overall education was pretty worthwhile. The campus is beautiful and actually quite homey feeling. I didn't mind running across campus to make a class. Most of their faculty I felt were knowledgeable and helpful, though the ones that weren't were quite full of themselves and wanted to see their students do poorly. Some staff are a bit lazy and will deny they read something of yours when they said actually did. The best classes were held during the summer session; truly the most dedicated staff found during this time. Biggest problem: the registrar's office. Quite efficient when it comes to transcripts and actual registration, but when it comes to enrolling there and graduation auditing they are terrible. They told me I was ready for graduation in May of 2005, but that was a lie; my degree never came and apparently there was a hold they missed. Because of their mistake I had to spend another $700 to maintain my matriculation so I figure out why I never finished. Then the staff member working with me took too long to respond and it took me an extra year to clear things up. I was supposed to have my degree in May of 2005, but I got it September of 2006. That is just ridiculous. Another problem: some of their programs won't take you if you are from NY. I tried to do a second masters there, but was rejected because I was from NY and I already had one degree from there, even though I was overqualified in the other areas they required. They didn't just do this to me, but many people and when I spoke to all of their counselors about some of their grad program they gladly announced that Queens College doesn't take too many of their own or many from the State itself. Does anyone not find that biased? The point is, that like all schools there are negatives and positives. Having both worked and gone to CUNY schools, I'd say that Queens is the one of the best ones out there. read more

This college is located in a nice area. I like that they have student parking garage underground. it is my saving grace during horrible weather. The chairs in the class rooms need some serious cleaning. I'm saying these chair are GROSS. most of them have dried up blood right in the middle of them. YUCK. so look down before you sit! PLEASE! The café is a tad pricey. especially for students who may be struggling. a meal will cost you 10 dollars easy. Not to mention they are closed on Fridays which is soooo odd. I spent the first half of college at a private university (Hofstra) and then midway through I decided I needed a change. I transferred to Queens College and can I just say that I WISH I spent ALL 4 years here! I've seen a lot of public colleges, and honestly Queens College was the absolute best there is. QC is such a bargain and it is totally worth every penny. There are some outstanding professors and some not-so-good ones, as with any other school. The only real downside that I can think of is that they need to provide better support for their recent graduates. I graduated in 2011 with a degree in Economics and looking back I felt as if I was dumped by the curb and left to fend for myself. Their Career Center is of little use, and perhaps that's just a sign of the times, but still. I remember when I was at Hofstra there were career fairs and constant recruiting (the school's career center initiated this....that's what QC needs to do too!). I know for sure other schools have a better placement rate for graduates. read more

This college is falling apart - despite a new building - most of their facilities are run down and former houses. Not really friendly staff either. I've been to BMCC - a community college - have much better facilities and staff. A lot of young kids here, whom are not as serious in school. Limited weekend schedule for adults. Not recommended for people with jobs. Lack of subway transportation. Buses are overpacked and limited. Alot of students just drive to school(good luck with parking - they do have a lotto for indoor parking but it's not cheap per semester, and you don't necessary get it) Queens College's property also houses a high school - Townsend Harris - a unofficial specialized high school. But a lot of teenagers sometimes crowd the college. read more

Went here for all 5 years. I loved it. The people are a hit or miss sometimes and so is some of the faculty.. But that's everywhere and not everyone is going to like you or even want to talk. This post is waaaaayyyyy overdue! This is my first semester at Queens, I transferred from LaGuardia, and I must say that it is a huge step up. The campus is huge! I had trouble finding my way around; however, I found the Queens College iphone app to be very useful when navigating the campus. Two huge negatives: 1- Parking is scarce, unless you want to pay $200+ a semester to park on campus. 2- the vending machines do not take debit cards! They take Qcards that you can put money on and use as a debit card. REALLY?! That is just plain stupid. Other than that, I am pretty happy with my transfer. read more

While there worked as a Tutor at 'The Writing Skills Workshop'.After receiving my Masters' from Columbia University, returned to teach.. Yes, there were some not so great individuals: Former Chairman of the ESL program ("Continuing Ed) who did not respect his staff + whose professional judgements were unprofessional .. However, to study w/ 'The Poet Laureate of Queens', to be inspired + enlightened by a Transcendentalist Scholar who became a mentor/friend..to become aware of ones' own intellectual abilities surely outweighs any negative.. read more

I took a couple of classes at Queens College in 2005, and I enjoyed them thoroughly. The professors were dedicated to their work and my fellow students seemed to be enjoying themselves similarly. I discovered curly fries at Queens College 8 years ago, so I pray that they still have them.. they were part of my initiation into adulthood. It was super expensive to eat at the cafeteria, but the gym facilities were unbelievable! With an ID, anyone can go to the QC gym. Pros: QC has an actual campus, a somewhat active student community and a location in the best possible borough (I'm from Queens!). Cons: It's disconnected from the rest of NYC, somewhat difficult to get to, and it's not the easiest campus to navigate. QC really does feel like a residential campus without residential life. read more

This school has been my home since 2008. I started my undergrad there and I will be completing it there in May 2012. I will be continuing my education though grad work at QC. I do wish there were more full time faculty, but I will always have awesome lasting impressions of this school. There are many opportunities for students to grow into adults. My biggest advice to any entering freshman is to get involved with student life. It is through this that I realized my true passion in life and even landed a job on campus. Parking may be an issue for the students that drive. Freshman normally don't receive decals. Street parking is available, but try to park a couple blocks away. read more

I am one of those weekender/summer class people at this school and I must say that they offered some very good courses. I had such a good time in my nutritions course which turned out to be a basic cooking course. I learned so much about the science of food and how ingredients come together. Take that Alton Brown! I took an English LIt course here that was just delightful. My Medical Billing courses were informative and so useful. The instructor is really working to make you into a viable candidate to get a job as a medical biller and coder. Parking is horrendous and I walk from far to get here. The cafeteria is... well, expensive and a little greasy. The views of the city are remarkable. How can we see so much if we are actually so inland into queens? Amazing. I will continue to invest in courses here if they keep thier costs down. Definately the best priced college. read more

I'm taking psychology courses from QC, and I realized our school is getting better and better each year. the variety of different courses are fantastic, you don't have to pay a huge amount of money to pay for your education here. And most of the professors I'd taken courses from were intellectual, and reasonable. here's the paragraph I cited from our welcome back letter from our president: "Two may be Queens College's lucky number this year. I got my undergraduate degree here in psychology and communication science disorders. FOR THE PRICE AND FOR MY MAJOR this place is great! Staff is relatively well educated. I also dormed here the dorms are extremely modern and spacious with a nice layout. With financial aid I only paid 10k a year to form and take courses which is half Of what I was paying at my private catholic university. It took me an extra year to get my undergraduate degree after transferring which was frustrating but I wasn't paying much so it wasn't too much of a set back. I am now at Adelphi getting my masters in SLP I would've went to grad school at Queens College but it is so competitive since it is such a great program for the price. Anyways, overall I enjoyed my three years at Queens College. It is inexpensive and a good education. The layout of the dorms were great although campus life sucks, cafeteria food sucks the area surrounding the campus sucks but it is safe. Also, ubering into the city or taking public transportation is definitely do able so don't be scared to branch out! Oh biggest complains is that parking sucks during the day. But I didn't pay for a parking pass all three years I just parked on the residential blocks and walked 5/10 minutes to campus. Nice college with a campus but not as great as some other one's. Much larger and could get a bit confusing to locates compared to some. Most guiding are pretty new and clean. Sometimes security walks around the campus too and there's a cafeteria and a couple food carts. All walkable distance and close to bus stops. All the buildings look very different by colour, style, and material like they were built by different architects and it's really quite awful as a visual representation. Professors in the computer science department and mathematics department are great. Really qualified, all have phds from top 10% universities in the world (if that matters). Oh, but everything else sucks. Service, offices, web page, student life... every single thing. If you have no choice but to come here, know that you will be intellectually stimulated but do not expect more than that. Unorganized as the underworld. I once emailed the head of the computer science department and got quite a fast response, "The computer science department of Queens College is the biggest in New York. I can't be answering each single question that comes my way." I think he did not even read my email and had that automated message. Let's say you want to email the financial aid office. Good luck trying to find that email in the QC webpage. CURRENTLY the email they have in there is outdated, it bounces. It makes me wish I accepted my NYU offer and got drowned it debt. Well... not really! Academics are A+. Forget about student life here, or the shitty offices and webpage, and lack of events. Focus on you free or almost free education. You can find parties online in facebook and a lot of places where students from other universities go (fordham, nyu, columbia, pace,fit, the new school, manhattan college). If you are lucky maybe you will find a person from Baruch College or Hunter College in one of those, because no CUNY has student life in general. We graduate debt free and know the same things a graduate from Columbia knows though. By the way, I had a coding battle against a friend of mine from Columbia. I destroyed him. Oh! another by the way, I am competitive and I like to defend Queens College (academically). But you will not find a lot of people like me on campus. No one will stand up straight defending Queens College, or wearing that QC hoodie cold or not. Nope. I was once in a conversation were some buds and me were talking with this girl from Temple University. My bros were like "oh yeah cool, you must be smart." Me though? I get furious. When someone says their uni name I am like "well i go to queens college b*&Y how 'bout that, you wanna see who's better? Don't hold me Tommy." Yet the common reaction of students in Queens College when they meet people from other college is that simple "oh nice, you must be smart." I do not know... as if you were not smart by attending Queens College. +Cheap. +Good academics. -No spirit. -Shitty offices. -Shitty services. -Shitty student life. -The freaking library opens later than a movie theater and closes earlier than a business with some type of monopolistic power. read more

Coming from NCC Queens is a breath of fresh air. It is clean for the most part except the bathrooms. The campus buildings are old but the library is pretty modern. The way the buildings are named and set up is confusing for new students but practice makes perfect. The most confusing building is Queen's Hall. You would think it would be front and center but it's kind of off campus. Most of the buildings have a cafeteria/lounge areas that are good for napping and catching up on studying and homework. My only other complaint is that the clubs seem nonexistent hard to find what which ones they have and when they meet. read more

Came by to look at the pool and the entire campus was actually very nice. Kids swimming available during certain days.
