I suppose you could rollerblade if you wanted. If it's a warm day and you don't mind the style your hair will be sculpted into by the blustering gales, you can follow the prom and its interconnecting paths right up to the Pier Head. If you don't fancy that, try and unearth the ruins of the 1984 Garden Festival, which lies hidden by tree trunks and weeds. You don't know how overtly creepy something is until you accidentally stumble across a kid's overgrown swing park. I still have nightmares.

I absolutely love the promenade; walking along beside the river with the breathtaking view of the Welsh hills in the background is really relaxing, there's lots of cyclists and dog-walkers around and it's a lovely environment on a clear sunny day. The park which was renovated through the 'Pride in our Proms' project is Amazing. It's a mini world of Big Kid heaven... for me anyway I regressed about 10 years and was on the swings, seesaw and monkey bars, and when we'd totally worn ourselves out running around and taking cool scenic pictures of the sunset we went for a well earned pint from the Otterspool pub which is handily a hop skip and a cartwheel across the park. All the animals looked very well cared for and happy, there was plenty of room for them to roam within their enclosures. I would say to take a picnic if the weather is nice and sit up towards the shetland ponies or outdoor train set - and enjoy the view!

It's a beautiful place and it really shows off the beauty of Wirral's countryside. Royden Park is gorgeous and there is a pond there for game fishing as well as an old model steam train that children can ride on on certain days! Thurstaston common is home to Thors Rock, a huge sandstone landmark where thousands of people have etched their names and sweet nothings for years on end. It's a great place for a family walk, walking the dog, a jog, a bike ride, or just an escape for a while. There's a campsite down the road for those that want to come and camp on the Wirral near somewhere beautiful. There's also a fantastic little pub about ten minutes walk away called the Cottage Loaf, they serve delicious homemade food to get your energy back up after a long walk!

On a good day, when the tide is far out, you can walk to Hilbre Island and the Little Eye. You can also walk alone the sand dunes which I've found my children really enjoy. During the summer months there are ice cream vans/shops. Morrisons is nearby and they have a wide range of food/drinks/products to buy. There is also a car park which you have to pay for, but I feel that it is worth it as it seems secure. I really love this place and can't sing it's praises enough!

The lake itself is totally enclosed, mainly non-tidal, offering water sport activities for all to enjoy. Extremely windy and can tackle windsurfing to kayaking. Private craft can be admitted by purchase of daily lake license, annual or seasonal license. These are really good value and i recommend them heartily if you have your own un-powered boat. Wirral Sailing Center is based at Marine Lake offers water sports activities which include - Kayaking, Canoeing, Windsurfing ,Sailing, Light boat sailing. Wirral Sailing Center is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association apparently which lends it a very good credit when moving on to another club. As mentioned above there are stunning views and when the tide goes out a gigantic beach to wander on. However unless you get a sunny and still day, unideal for most activities, will it be nice on the front. Wind whirls in off the irish sea quite literally like daggers of cold even in the middle of the so called summer. Bring gloves to watch people wander up and down the promenede. Good hot food can be found in morrisons.

GreenWood Forest Park is a rather unlikely find in the North Wales countryside. It's an eco-theme…read morepark which tries to show that you can have fun without using much power (other than that which you provide yourself). It's NOT a park that pushes the green message at you at every opportunity and this I like. It's that fact that it's understated that makes you think about it. Home to Europe's largest Green roller coaster this place is well worth a visit. The coaster itself works alomg similar principles to the mines, power is generated by people being carried down as the coaster is lifted back up to the start. The coaster then runs down and the next group of people can be taken. Other self-powered rides include a boat ride (where you paddle/pull yourself along with ropes) and a great toboggan run. The other major attraction is the bare-foot walk where you can get back to nature via a barefoot walk through various types of ground including sand, cobbles, mud, water and straw. Immense fun and strangely refreshing. Wash facilities are provided (cold!). Toilets are clean and there is a cafe offering good value basic meals. Wait times were not too bad. I liked the fact that this was a simple park and suited to children from toddlers to about 13 years old. I suspect the optimum age range is about 3-8 years. Unlike the traditional theme parkes queues are minimal (no more than a 2 minute wait for anything) despite our visit being on a May bank Holiday weekend in bright sunshine! Please note - do as the website suggests and if you are using a sat nav start to ignore it when you see the brown tourist signs - if you don't then you end up going through some very steep and narrow roads that are not suited to tourist traffic. It will take about 5 minutes more if you follow the tourist signs but you'll get there in one piece! Recommended.

We'd sit in the bird hide for a good hour and then buy some postcards and posters, badges or stationary. Some very good childhood memories of here. The rangers are really good, they clearly care about the area and the wildlife and take pride in their job. I visited recently having strolled along Caldy shore; it hasn't changed a bit! There's still the same poster stands and baskets of erasers and pencils, the dog shaped donation box and the room full of taxidermy! I think it's great that it's unchanged, however perhaps a little modernisation would encourage more visitors. The country park, the trails and the visitor centre are so peaceful, it's just lovely.

Not only is does it have leaflets and displays on every kind of tour and natural beauty spot within the Wirral, but it's also staffed by three or four full time rangers and park staff that share a wealth of knowledge of the area and it's species and countryside. I'm not sure if they still do, but they used to run a course for kids called 'Junior Rangers' every Saturday. This was great fun, I went for years and really enjoyed it as a way to see the woods and countryside and make new friends. They did a range of activities ranging from pond dipping to dungeon visits and rock climbing. If this is still going I would fully recommend it for children!

I would strongly recommend this for age 7 - 10 though smaller ones are able to come along too, height restrictions do apply to certain parts of the adventure courses, so to avoid disappointed I would recommend you go onto their website and check first. This place is all about fun and fitness for the whole family. They have a massive high wire forest adventure course; which is set within the countryside and developed to encourage you to get moving, and trust me by the end you the adventure a good cuppa and sleep is what you'll need, though if it is for the family then keeping the kids active by getting them tired then Jungle Parc is the place to bring them. It is a very safe environment and with all the proper equipment it is very enjoyable. The X-plorer course is for anyone over 1.35m in height and the Adventurer course is for children from 4 years old and with minimum height of 1.05m. The Jungle Parc is situated in Croxteth Country Park which is only 10 minutes from the city centre.

There are 40 amazing activities to enjoy as you glide through trees on rope bridges, zip lines and cargo! It definitely sounds exciting as it really is. Adults are just £20 and Juniors £15. Prices include full training and all equipment to make sure you are fully prepared and safe. Not bad at all for an adventourous day in jungle like surroundings.

Through this camouflaged archway lies a hidden little patch of green. If you long for green and trees and fresh air as much as I do, this is a great place to walk, sit, breath, and drink in the natural world around you. I was taken aback, actually, because it reminded me a little bit of the fields across the road from my grandparents' old stone house back in the USA. As you walk through the arch you have trees on both sides of the mown grass, and you have to walk quite a ways before you come to the open clearing. Apparently this patch of land is home to a bit of wildlife as well so if you're lucky and you time it right, you might spot some cunning and adorable critters.

There are acres and acres of lush scenery to peruse through as well as a pond for fishing in and a golf course for all those aspiring golfers. It's just a shame because it's set on the back of a few housing estates and occasionally you can get a bit of trouble as you walk around. So be warned, it's not a place that I would let my children go to play unsupervised! Other than that it's a great walk, I used to job through here fairly frequently and never got any trouble. It's a good place for groups of friends to go and play football as well as they have two football pitches that can be used. There's also a nice pub called the Cherry Orchard which you should try if you get peckish after your walk!
