Here you can do everything there is to possibly do on a riverside promenade; things such as walk, ride a bike, look at the water and...um...well that's about it. I suppose you could rollerblade if you wanted. If it's a warm day and you don't mind the style your hair will be sculpted into by the blustering gales, you can follow the prom and its interconnecting paths right up to the Pier Head. If you don't fancy that, try and unearth the ruins of the 1984 Garden Festival, which lies hidden by tree trunks and weeds. You don't know how overtly creepy something is until you accidentally stumble across a kid's overgrown swing park. I still have nightmares.

I absolutely love the promenade; walking along beside the river with the breathtaking view of the Welsh hills in the background is really relaxing, there's lots of cyclists and dog-walkers around and it's a lovely environment on a clear sunny day. The park which was renovated through the 'Pride in our Proms' project is Amazing. It's a mini world of Big Kid heaven... for me anyway I regressed about 10 years and was on the swings, seesaw and monkey bars, and when we'd totally worn ourselves out running around and taking cool scenic pictures of the sunset we went for a well earned pint from the Otterspool pub which is handily a hop skip and a cartwheel across the park. Go fly a kite, see the sights, play on the park and grab a pint!

All the animals looked very well cared for and happy, there was plenty of room for them to roam within their enclosures. For 7 of those miles the line ran close to the Dee Estuary, diverted there, away from his estate, by a rich landowner. Wirral Country Park - Wirral Country Park Shoreline Steam trains brought townspeople out to Parkgate and the seaside on Cheap Day Excursions; and took back to the cities Wirral's early potatoes, rattling milk churns and coal from Neston Colliery. But by 1962 the line was closed. The seaside resorts had long since silted up, the colliery was shut, the farms were being covered by houses, and the car had replaced the train. For a while the track lay derelict. But in 1973, backed by money from the Countryside Commission, and after a great deal of work, the old railway line was opened as Wirral Country Park. It was the first designated Country Park in Britain.

This is the place that I grew up building dens with my school friends in the middle of the woods…read moreand rock climbing and going on huge bike rides! It's a beautiful place and it really shows off the beauty of Wirral's countryside. Royden Park is gorgeous and there is a pond there for game fishing as well as an old model steam train that children can ride on on certain days! Thurstaston common is home to Thors Rock, a huge sandstone landmark where thousands of people have etched their names and sweet nothings for years on end. It's a great place for a family walk, walking the dog, a jog, a bike ride, or just an escape for a while. There's a campsite down the road for those that want to come and camp on the Wirral near somewhere beautiful. There's also a fantastic little pub about ten minutes walk away called the Cottage Loaf, they serve delicious homemade food to get your energy back up after a long walk!

An unsung gem of the Welsh countryside (you'd be amazed how many people haven't heard of this place…read more- don't remain one of them). Park up at the visitor centre (£1) and take a long relaxing walk along the dam's retaining wall - with picturesque views down across the lower valley - or for a much more enriching experience, park on the access road on the other side of the reservoir, which you'll find by taking the B4501 from Denbigh. Apart from having access to the forest walk, there's a plethora of Bronze Age remains - cairns and burial mounds, and a ritual temple - to be found on the well-signposted archaeological trail. Interestingly, only 20 people were ever buried at this location during a 500 year period. You eventually work your way round to the visitor centre, housing a free interpretative exhibition, with a handy cafe and a toilet complex, attached. Whatever the weather (and we've been there on the wintriest of days) it's a fascinatingly eerie (drowned villages always are, somehow) and beautiful spot.

The roadway around part of the Llyn makes for easy walking for beginners but for the more adventurous there are plenty of other pathways too. A great place to cycle too if that's your bag.

GreenWood Forest Park is a rather unlikely find in the North Wales countryside. It's an eco-theme…read morepark which tries to show that you can have fun without using much power (other than that which you provide yourself). It's NOT a park that pushes the green message at you at every opportunity and this I like. It's that fact that it's understated that makes you think about it. Home to Europe's largest Green roller coaster this place is well worth a visit. The coaster itself works alomg similar principles to the mines, power is generated by people being carried down as the coaster is lifted back up to the start. The coaster then runs down and the next group of people can be taken. Other self-powered rides include a boat ride (where you paddle/pull yourself along with ropes) and a great toboggan run. The other major attraction is the bare-foot walk where you can get back to nature via a barefoot walk through various types of ground including sand, cobbles, mud, water and straw. Immense fun and strangely refreshing. Wash facilities are provided (cold!). Toilets are clean and there is a cafe offering good value basic meals. Wait times were not too bad. I liked the fact that this was a simple park and suited to children from toddlers to about 13 years old. I suspect the optimum age range is about 3-8 years. Unlike the traditional theme parkes queues are minimal (no more than a 2 minute wait for anything) despite our visit being on a May bank Holiday weekend in bright sunshine! Please note - do as the website suggests and if you are using a sat nav start to ignore it when you see the brown tourist signs - if you don't then you end up going through some very steep and narrow roads that are not suited to tourist traffic. It will take about 5 minutes more if you follow the tourist signs but you'll get there in one piece! Recommended.

The Management continue to make improvements all the time, and each time we see changes. If you go three ti,mes or more a year , its well worth joinging the Friends as you will save money. ITs a bit like asmall version of BOdnant Gardens in N Wales for those of you who know it. Edit, visited again 13/3/13 with wife , mother in law and grandauaghter. For the first time we had lunch in the cafe, good quality and well presented food, nice ambience.

I stumbled across this park while wandering alone Market Street in the rain toward the Hoylake promenade. I must confess to taking refuge from the deluge under the boughs of one of the larger trees. This would probably make a good place to have a picnic lunch in the summer time (if it's not raining!), especially if you are spending the day shopping and visiting the beach.

Balls Wood is the hidden gem of Maghull for those who love parks and the great outdoors in general…read more You could walk right by this park and not notice it--in fact I did at first. Through this camouflaged archway lies a hidden little patch of green. If you long for green and trees and fresh air as much as I do, this is a great place to walk, sit, breath, and drink in the natural world around you. I was taken aback, actually, because it reminded me a little bit of the fields across the road from my grandparents' old stone house back in the USA. As you walk through the arch you have trees on both sides of the mown grass, and you have to walk quite a ways before you come to the open clearing. Apparently this patch of land is home to a bit of wildlife as well so if you're lucky and you time it right, you might spot some cunning and adorable critters.
