I'll attempt to explain why…read more After a night out drinking, we were a bit too 'happy' to be able to drive back home, so decided to stay here for the night. After a certain time, you can pay via credit card and get a room key without desk staff being on the premises, so we got a few rooms between six of us. Bunk beds.but that was ok, we just wanted a bed for the night. At around £25 per room per night, I suppose you get what you pay for. It didnt take long though, for us to realise that most of the 'ladies of the night' of Peterborough were also using the hotel to get what they paid for, which made for an entertaining night in itself. It served a purpose, we were up and out at around 8 the next morning, and it was preferable to sleeping in a ditch and cheaper than getting a taxi to take us the 30 miles across the fens and then catching the train back to reclaim the cars, but its not the kind of place to consider staying at if you're even halfway sober. Apparently it was recently taken over by Metro Hotels, so perhaps its now a little classier. Do your research ahead of time if you're considering it.

The End House is a beautiful and tranquil place to stay for your visit to Cambridge. It's in a…read moregreat location, just about a 15 minute walk (partially along the forest path near the River Cam) south of the city center, which also makes it more convenient to walk to Grantchester village if you want to visit the Orchard Tea Gardens (which you should do!). If you are arriving at the Cambridge train station a cab is only about £6 as of 2014 if you don't want to drag your luggage through the forest, which we found out the hard way. Jonathan is a very kind and helpful host, and everything is chosen with great care, from the modern yet functional fixtures, to the clean and unusually large beds compared to other beds we encountered in the UK, to the beautifully handpicked furniture. Jonathan also buys groceries early every morning, so the fresh fruit and local sausage and bacon he serves are outstanding. He also makes perfectly cooked eggs, as well as delicious homemade fruit smoothies! I would definitely stay here again.

This small B&B used to be, surprisingly, the…read moreStation Master's house for Rowsley station, and the house itself was designed by Sir Joseph Paxton, built in about 1850. The couple who run this B&B are incredibly friendly and just lovely people to have a conversation with over one of their trademark HUGE full English breakfasts! They have a wealth of knowledge about places to go and things to do in the nearby Peak District National Park, and are also authorities on the local pubs! The rooms are not big but very cosy and homely, with small en suite bathrooms in every room. The beds are out of this world comfortable, and are so high and well-stocked with pillows that it is a struggle not to think that you may have been coronated some kind of monarch between coming through the door and sitting down on the bed! Rowsley is peaceful and very pretty - a stereotypical Peak District village, and my girlfriend and I always look forward to our stays here.

It has to be said the choice of venue could not have been better. It is a welcoming and friendly family affair. Indeed the current owner actually built the accommodation and associated buildings himself. My room was spacious and well appointed it was clean and functional. TV, tea making paraphernalia including biscuits as well as complimentary shower gel etc. The bed was divine and a great nights kip was had. I was even given a early morning knock as I had forgotten my alarm clock. You would have to be the type of person that wants to be disappointed to find any faults with the room or its facilities. They also have a room with a bar and a large screen TV. Breakfast, well.all that I can assume is that Mr Mears must be a former lorry driver (said in the nicest way) as it was plentiful and delicious. Cereals, FULL English, with all the usual suspects bacon, sausage. hash browns, tomatoes etc etc. toast and jams the lot. Fruit juice, tea or coffee and it appeared to me as though you could drink as much as you wanted and eat toast till it came out of your ears. All in all the B & B is the tops. I have to say at £50 for a double room, this is fantastic value and the host and hostess are really very nice a nothing too much trouble. We kept Mrs Mears up until 0140hrs!! and it was not a problem.
