I am a nervous wreck when it comes to dental work, especially something as invasive as an extraction, but Dr. Dourmas made me feel comfortable as soon as she walked into the room. I told her about my nerves and she was very kind and patient in explaining my situation, treatment options, and the potential side effects. Stephanie at the front desk was also very helpful, as were the two women who performed my X-rays and scheduled my follow-up appointment (I unfortunately didn't get their names!) I left with a great impression of the office. Even though surgery was ruled out for the time being, I'd feel fully comfortable and confident in moving forward with Dr. Dourmas and her excellent staff if that becomes necessary in the future. read more

I was referred to Queensboro Oral Surgery & Associates by my dentist for a consultation about replacing a tooth I had extracted. I've been putting off getting an implant for a while because I wanted to carefully weigh my options, especially since implants can be expensive. I finally decided to schedule a consultation, and the process was very easy. The receptionist took my insurance information over the phone and scheduled me for the next available appointment. On the day of my visit, I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. They took a panoramic X-ray and thoroughly explained the implant procedure, what to expect during surgery, the healing process, and the long-term benefits of replacing the missing tooth. Since I already know that missing a tooth can cause surrounding teeth to shift, I appreciated how informative they were about preventing future dental issues. I was also very upfront about being nervous. I've had root canals, wisdom teeth extractions, fillings, and other dental procedures over the years, and dental work has always made me anxious. The staff was kind, patient, and reassuring, even though this visit was only a consultation. They explained that local anesthesia would be included with the procedure, while IV sedation would be an additional out-of-pocket expense since insurance doesn't cover it. Before I left, the secretary came over to my chair to discuss my insurance benefits. She explained that my primary insurance would cover 50% and my secondary insurance would cover the remaining 50%, which led me to believe the procedure would essentially be covered in full, aside from any non-covered expenses like sedation. Because of that, I felt comfortable waiting for the prior authorizations before making my final decision. A short time later, I received an email from my primary insurance showing what they approved, and it listed that I would still be responsible for $1,117.50. I wasn't overly concerned at first because I assumed my secondary insurance authorization was still being processed and would cover the remaining balance, just as I had been told during my consultation. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because of what happened afterward. When I called the office to ask about the secondary insurance authorization, I was surprised to learn it had never been submitted. Instead of acknowledging the oversight or apologizing for the delay, I was simply told they would process it and that it would take about two more weeks. That was disappointing because I had specifically explained that I wasn't comfortable scheduling surgery until I knew exactly what my financial responsibility would be. I don't think patients should have to call back to make sure paperwork that was promised is actually being completed. At this point, I still won't schedule the implant until I know exactly what my out-of-pocket costs will be. Overall, my consultation experience was excellent. The oral surgeon and staff I interacted with during my visit were professional, informative, compassionate, and made me feel at ease. My only complaint is the lack of follow-through with my insurance paperwork, which unfortunately delayed my treatment. I hope this was simply an isolated oversight because my experience in the office itself was otherwise very positive. read more

Sloppy, dismissive, and dangerous. Beware of this practice (Dr. Ochs) especially if you are a cancer patient also receiving bone drugs. Dr. Ochs thinks he can override the requirements of an oncologist and risk causing a patient a serious condition called jaw necrosis. Didn't even ask which arm to put a line in which is important for breast cancer patients, to avoid another terrible condition called lymphedema. Also as others have stated, he has the sensitivity of a sledgehammer, causing alot of pain. You will go round and round with this shlub, he is just dense and even corrected the first time, does the same thing the second time. AWFUL. Stay away. The office is a 5 minute walk from my home but I will never go back there. read more

I was treated by Dr. Ochs who is rated a 5 star professional with many years of experience. howevet, I observed and endured that the Office staff was disorganized, the tech was incompetent. I was placed in what looked more like a storage room than a treatment room. the treatment chair was broken. Dr Ochs extracted the root and disapproverà. NO ONE came to ask if I was ok, Evidently, The internet professional background was not real. I certainly will not recomment this place or Dr. Ochs to anyone. read more

Dr. Ouchs has been very professional and skilled in implant surgery. I had multiple implants in both lower and upper arches, Dr. Ouchs and Dr. Lenchner worked together to device a treatment plan and surgical placement of implants. He explained to me what to expect as far as the surgery and placing implants, IV sedation, how my recovery and how much post up discomfort to expect. He was very efficient, skilled and I must say he underestimated my expectations. I had less pain than he predicted and healed very nicely. I highly recommend Dr. Ouchs as a oral surgeon both for extractions of teeth and implants!!! read more

I made two appointments here for a wisdom tooth removal. The first time, I wanted to verify the insurance payment because I had started a new job recently with a new plan. Before I could ask about it they started preparing me for the removal so I immediately pressed my issue. They insisted that I was covered and that all I would have to come out of pocket is the copay. They pushed to continue so I had to insist for a later surgery date so I could get days off from work. They gave me my quote and I left. The next appointment, They say the same thing, the same amount that I'm covered so I go on with the surgery and pay the copay. A month later I get a letter in the mail for $1000 bill from them saying my insurance didn't cover anything. so of course I call, explain the situation and the lady on the phone says (AT FIRST) we reached out to your insurance and they told us you were cover but then the paperwork came back and they denied the claim. I told her I called my insurance and they said they never got any claims from them at any time that I came there since the first appointment. Then she says we made a mistake but you still have to pay. If you have any other insurances we will try to contact them but it's they also deny it there's nothing I can do but pay the bill. A few months go by and more bills keep coming in the mail, I called each time and the same thing happens. No one knows why my insurance isn't being checked properly or why the company isn't getting the claims they "sent" out. I explain the situation over and over again just for them to retake my other insurance and tell me that I need to pay regardless. A couple weeks goes by and now my old insurance won't take the claim because I need a referral which I already had on file in my dental record. Overall a terrible experience. This place is full of liars and scam artists. Don't come here! read more

Dr. Ochs did a great job with my two top wisdom teeth removal surgery. He was patient and explained thoroughly the best and least harmful option for my teeth. I had virtually no pain after the operation and the area is healing well so far. The staff who took my x ray was also efficient and professional. I just wish I received after care instructions from the doctor but he had just disappeared after the operation. I was just handed a printed manual and felt I needed to do research on my own. It would've been nice if the costs were explained before my operation but I was just handed a receipt after and told the amount I immediately owed. Also there was a staff member who approached me before the surgery and asked if I needed a translator and basically assumed I didn't know English because I'm Asian :( Besides these hiccups my visit was overall positive. read more

REVIEW FOR DR. HOWARD A. OCHS... WOSRT oral surgeon I have ever experienced in the past 60 years of my life. He was in a rush because I overheard he had a tennis match and extracted my tooth without letting the novacaine set in. I have had extractions before and I have never experienced this much pain, I even jumped out of my seat several times during the procedure. He didnt even use oral gel numbing agent before the novacaine needle was incerted into my gums. This doctor is inconsiderate and lacks compassion and empathy for his patients. Dr Chen was nice but the staff members are unprofessional. They do not know personal boundaries. I was brought by two people, a female and a male, for an x-ray. I was told to close my eyes and stand behind this new X-ray machine. I did follow what I was told then suddenly I heard screaming. Apparently the people who worked with me are trainees, then suddenly I felt a hand grabbed my head from the back and pushed it towards the machine as I heard the chin area was pushed down. Then she grabbed my arms towards the front. I opened my eyes, and I saw a female Trainer yelling at the Trainees. She kept yelling at them with frustration. She was disrespectful to me, their patient, and to the other staff. I think I was assaulted!!!! She seemed to hate me and working with people. This is unprofessional and should not be allowed in a dental office. I wanted to leave because I felt unwanted. But I was told I need to stay. Then at the dental chair, people just keep grabbing my arms without asking if it's ok. I have been to a number of dental office but this is just plain unprofessional! Thank goodness Dr Chen is kind and a good listener. I wonder why they deleted the other bad reviews? Bad customer service. read more

I had oral surgery and was somewhat disappointed in the level of care I received. First I sat for a long time in the chair. I wasn't given any numbing meds before getting the novian. Also I am surprised not to have received a follow up call after my surgery. Although the procedure was done quickly one the shot took affect I thought a little follow up care would help. read more

I used Dr. Dourmas to get a wisdom tooth pulled. She was wonderful. Besides being so nice and pleasant to put me at ease. She was very gentle. I did not have dental insurance so opted to have the tooth pulled without anesthesia. She just numbed the area with Novocain and gently removed the tooth. PAINLESS. It healed very quickly and cleanly. I would recommend her. My daughter used her with anesthesia and had a similar painless experience. I've never used Dr. Ochs. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait in the office because they take emergencies. read more

It was my first time here today and quite frankly I was kinda embarrassed about the way I handled myself. I was shaking, nervous, and probably mumbling a lot by the time I was done- and I wasn't even sedated. They took their time and made sure I was okay before I walked out the door. Dr. Ochs was quick and patient with me. Definitely made me put my anxiety about dentists at ease and I now have a lesser degree of fright when it comes to dental procedures. I am petrified of the dentist. I am heavily traumatized by extreme dental work done to me at a young age before they discovered that novocaine doesn't work on me. When I found out I needed all four wisdom teeth extracted I searched high and low for a maxillofacial surgeon (NOT DENTIST) to perform the extraction under sedation. I went to Dr. Ochs after he extracted my little brothers teeth. My brother came out of it smiling and laughing - if a child had a good experience than you should trust it, children have no reason to lie and scare easily. To date Dr. Ochs removed all four of my wisdom teeth and more recently an adult tooth which had cracked into the gum line. He also placed the dental implant for it. Both experiences were better than expected. His staff were always highly informative, helpful, and comforting. Billing costs were discussed prior to the procedure and his staff allowed a love one in to hold my hand before I went under. The assistants were all so lovely and made it much less scary than it felt like. I hope I never need any more invasive dental work, but if I do its comforting knowing where I can go. I highly recommend Dr. Ochs and this practice, especially if your insurance covers sedation. read more

Hello everyone, So i had to have 3 of my wisdom tooth extracted. I went to dr Maria D. I have been referred to her by a close family friend. She is beyond amasing. I fear dentist and in general have a hugeee fear. I had to go- under anesthesia, and i was supper scared. Dr maria and her staff did an amasing job keeping me calm, her prices are soo great and reasonable, considering she has so many qualifications, and awards and years of experience. Not many dentist are like this ladies and gentleman.! Now to say her staff was amasing, patient, and Dr m made sure to answer all my questions and gave me her advice on my procedure. They made sure i was fully comfortable before begining anything!! Remind you guys i was so confident in her i went in to do this procedure two days before i wed. I came out. Bled from my tooth maybe an hour didnt even have to change my gauze. And best of she was sooo great and gentle i have absolutly zerooo swellling even after 24 hrs. As if i never hAd any tooth pulled. For future i will absolutly go to her again!!! I loveddd the customer service, they are on time with appointments, Dr really know what she is doing, and they have state of the art, xray machines3d. My daughter and I came here to get our wisdom teeth removed. It is located in a busy location. They don't have parking but there is meter parking on the street. When we entered we were greeted by the receptionist. She was very pleasant. We were called in to take X-Rays. They have modern equipment and it helped to get quick x-rays. After taking them, you are called in to discuss your options to have your procedure done. If you want to be put to sleep or opting to stay awake for the procedure. We opting to be put to sleep. They also talk to you about what your insurance covers and your out of pocket payment. After those items are completed, they prep for your procedure. Once the procedure is done, they let you let you sit until you are ready to get up. They give your paperwork and send your prescriptions to the pharmacy. They actually assisted us in getting my daughter to the car because she was really drowsy. I really appreciated the effort they put forward. For this reason, anytime I need dental work done, I will visit them again. read more

HONEST? ZERO PAIN? Patient and Understanding??? I have found a unicorn in a forest of greedy wolves! After a dentist cracked my tooth without telling me while filling a cavity, I was having a lot of pain. I went to two other dentist/oral surgeons in my area. Both "highly" recommended a root canal with assurances that the tooth could be saved. With over a thousand dollars at stake, I decided to get one more opinion. Enter Dr. Maria Dourmas of Queensboro Oral Surgery. She took X-rays and patiently examined me. Then she showed me the detailed X-Rays, showed me how the tooth was cracked in several places, and explained that there was no way this tooth could be "saved". She explained that I would be spending hundreds if not over a thousand on an obviously useless root canal, and the tooth would have to be pulled afterwards anyway, thus costing me even more not only in money, but wasted time and pain. Now HERE is an honest doctor who cares about her patients and is not motivated by greed. I made another appointment, and she pulled the tooth. There it was, my poor tooth in pieces in front of me. She was right. Not only that, Dr. Dourmas was above and beyond gentle. I felt nothing (and I usually feel everything and need more pain killers than the usual person because I'm a baby). No pain AT ALL and I wasn't even put under. I was given pain killers for later on, but never felt anything besides a slight swelling, and didn't take them. The front office staff is very friendly and efficient, and the office, waiting room and bathroom were very clean. Dr. Dourmas is kind, caring, funny (!) and professional. UPDATE: Dr. Ochs did an amazing job putting my implant in. He told me it would not be very painful and he was right - I barely felt it! Only the shot of Novocaine caused any discomfort, and after that the procedure was very quick and painless. Thank you Dr. Ochs! Great Job! FROM 1st PROCEDURE: Dr Ochs did an amazing job extracting my rear molar. Virtually no pain at all! I had less discomfort than with getting a cavity filled! I had several consultations with other oral surgeons and Dr Ochs was much better. For example, Dr Ochs used a 3D scan of my teeth so he knew exactly where the roots were for a better idea of how to do the operation. The other Surgeons did not have that capability in their offices, and do not use that approach. Dr Ochs also gave me really good advice about what anesthesia to use. The other Doctors offered either local (novacaine) or general (being put to sleep) anesthesia. While Dr Ochs also offered those options he went the extra step of letting me know that for an extraction such as mine, most of his patients would choose local. That helped inform me to decide to use only local. Now having had the procedure I am so happy I did the local, since it's so much easier of a recovery. Dr Ochs's demeanor is very calm, confident and professional, as is that of his staff. This helped put me at ease and everything went great. I'll admit, my initial reaction was: 'Queens?' (I live and work in Brooklyn). But, now that it's all behind me, I would've taken a trip cross-country to have had my oral biopsy performed by Dr. Ochs and his skilled and friendly staff. From Dr. Ochs, to Rayda and Jennifer at the front desk (and another lovely young woman), and two surgical nurses, I couldn't have been referred to a more compassionate and professional team. First, Dr. Ochs actually spoke with me on the phone directly before I even set up an appointment. The morning of my biopsy, he was so calm and kind, he immediately put me at ease--much needed before a procedure I found terrifying. Dr. Ochs explained everything patiently to me and I knew exactly what to expect, before and after the biopsy. It was a painless and quick procedure and I felt well-cared for and nurtured. When I called with follow-up questions, all were kind and responsive, including Dr. Ochs--so generous with his time. Returning for results, I was lucky enough to hear the word, 'benign,' to learn my condition and that it was 80% healed. On my way out, I happened to pass by one of the surgical nurses who smiled and said, 'Good news, right?' It's a very busy office! That she remembered me, a new patient whom she met briefly 2 weeks prior, was knowledgable re: my results, and took the time to reach out--speaks volumes about the character of this office. This is the worst dental office I've ever been to. The front desk staffs are incompetent, uncaring, lack communication skills and are lazy to do the necessary follow-up for their customers. The dental services are fine, but overpriced. We went there by referral, the staff did not inform me that they were out of my insurance network. They stated that I needed to pay upfront and then they would submit the claims for my reimbursement. After they charged my credit card, they didn't do anything for two months. I called them and my insurance company several times to finally have the dental office submit the proper claim form. They charged me $100 for consultation, and $1000 for extracting 4 baby teeth. My family dentist charged me nothing to extract one of my sons' baby teeth. I should have waited until my regular dentist was available rather than go to this dental office. I will never - EVER - go back to that office again! read more

The front desk staffs and office managers are unhelpful and simply incompetent. They struggle to navigate the insurance database to check patient's eligibility and lack basic knowledge on types of insurance they accept. They informed patient that they accept insurance and later changed their answer and asked patient to pay for it at once. Financial responsibility was definitely not discussed ahead of time. Office manager refused to show invoice that indicts service charges and to send a copy to patients' addresses. Patients didn't request and provide consent on treatment plan before services were completed. More importantly, they threaten patients that the bills will go to a collection agency and they can't control it when patient's credit is ruined. I agree with previous reviewer that this practice is very questionable and their staffs are uncaring. Corporate culture training and further training on Patient's Bill of Rights are recommended for staffs. read more

I've been a patient at this office for over ten years. Dr. Ochs is an extraordinary Oral Surgeon and has a heart of gold. He was recommended to my by my Dentist and I am grateful to him for that. He is very knowledgeable with any mouth issues, is a gentile surgeon and takes time to listen to your concerns before doing anything. His staff is very friendly, always greet you with a smile and will answer all/any of your questions too.
