After ten minutes or so the hostess seated us at a very nice table. The ambience is upscale with linens and well dressed polite staff. That would count for little of course if the food did not match the setting. It did not disappoint. We had lamb korma, chicken jalfrezi, rogan josh, mushroom rice and of course naan. The portions are generous and we intentionally order enough to take some home with us. It was that good. The price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. We each got a drink and found a table without a reserved sign on it (they had pub trivia starting about an hour and a half after our arrival, but almost all tables were empty but reserved...I am still wrapping my head around the reservation thing at pubs!) and settled in to enjoy our drinks. A cider for my Fella, and a spritzy cocktail for me. Both lovely. We considered staying for trivia, but were just too tired. I started finding myself annoyed at most pubs and restaurants we went to where the mens toilets were on the ground floor, but the womens were up or down a flight of stairs or more. And the womens toilets here are upstairs and well away from the main area. It was so empty upstairs, I almost thought I was in the wrong place, too. We kept getting strange looks from another patron which made us speed up finishing our drinks and leaving. Despite being Americans, we were not being loud or doing anything other than chatting having a drink, but it was really strange and made us a bit uncomfortable. So we downed the rest of our drinks and went back to our hotel. I did like the general feel of this place though and it would likely be a nice place for a meal.

We buy all our meat from here and they also stock Pieminster pies, organic veg, New Forest ice-cream and lots of yummy deli stuff. The bacon is sublime and the sausages..and the steak.. The staff are really helpful and really know their foodstuffs. I ordered a 2kg joint of gammon for a family party and it was amazing. I was a bit late ordering it, but they bent over backwards to get it for me. The cafe has tables inside and outside, where you will be surrounded by curious and comical exotic chickens.
