I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the unacceptable delay and poor service I experienced at this facility 11525 Brookshire Ave Downey, ca. 90241. This excessive wait time for a stand by patient significantly disrupted my schedule and resulted in stress, and medical needs. It seems like if they don't want walk-ins and felt completely ignored. I waited 3hrs and was still not called. As a patient I value my time, but this is for sure my last time going to this particular office, it's simply Horrible and bad service. I did end up going to Lab Corp as a walk-in and they treated me well, I was out in less than 30min. Hope they will stop wasting patients time and I would rather have them telling me that they don't accept walk-ins... I would have understood. I will never go back and will not recommend this office. Perfect, as long as you have appointment. I missed my appt by 15 min and had to sign in as a "standby". Worst choice ever. 11 ppl before me and I waited 3 hrs!!!!!!!! There are signs that welcome walk-ins but it is nothing welcoming about it. Idk how the standby line is managed, clearly it is not. A staff member also mentioned to standby patients that their service is not guaranteed if they are not called by 4pm. Walk-ins should not be welcomed, it should not be an option. Walk in provide a time to be seen, be advised that may not happen for hours. I don't know why they would even give a time. I got there at 7 am & the kiosk gave me an approximate time of 9:40. I spoke to someone there and was advised I could not be told if o would be seen soon or for hours. When you're fasting and ill you can pass out. Be advised! Yup, read the terrible reviews for this place! With an appointment, you still have to wait an hour or more! I had an appointment for my son & I for 10:30am and I didn't get seen until 11:30. My son closer for 12. There's no front desk or ANYONE to talk to, you literally just have kiosks and you wait. The person who drew my blood was nice and quick so that's why this place gets 1 star. She didn't hate her job. It just could be way better. I know if they had someone working with people face to face, that person would get so many complaints about the wait times. If I could give negative stars I would, this place Sucks with a capital S. I've been here twice before and both times I had to wait over 2 hours to be told that they probably would be able to get to me before they closed. They strongly encourage you to make an appointment because people with appointments take priority over walk-ins. When I had the appointment I don't know why it takes so long to get to each person? All of the information they need is in the computer and all they have to do is stick the damn stickers on the viles and/or bags. At my old doctors office there was one lady doing the same job and she had you in and out in 5mins. This place has at least 4 people doing the same job. I would like to know why they have you make an appointment then make you wait 45 minutes before they call you. They didn't have enough parking either. They have two kiosk when you walk in. I noticed some people were confused about how to register. There's no one to help. They need a better system. This was my first time using this location. I'm not sure if I would come back. read more

You sign in on the mini computer, but don't see a person if you have questions. Many people confused. Tv was blasting. When they finally call you , the phlebotomist had an attitude. Prior patient was told that if he didn't have his lab order that he would have to call his own dr, and get back in line...Didn't offer any help from the front desk that was hidden behind a wall . 1 hour later , he was finally seen, then I had the SAME issue, had my dr fax my order, they still didn't have it. The facility is a bit run down, maybe it makes it looks worse because the lighting is dimmed. The rooms where the blood is drawn feel cold and kind of dirty. Staff is pretty rude too. They didn't want to assist two people waiting. Not sure if it was on of those "I don't get paid for that" or "learn Spanish." (Both people were Spanish speakers. There's no staff outside helping with their computerized check in, so make sure you do not send out your elderly relatively alone. read more

I scheduled my appointment ahead of time. Well it didn't make one difference what so ever!! So very frustrating , everything is automative . So, once I checked in through their touch screen w/ my code of confirmation for my appointment time of 2:10pm . It did NOT make one difference. I have gone to multiple quest and never had this issue I only came here today because I wasn't able to get to the Long Beach location which it's a minimum of 20 min wait and you can arrive 20 min before their closing time and they'll still take you only because we arrived before their closing time. This has to be the worst place ever to get a blood test. I heard that the quest diagnostics in Whittier is good because they actually have a front desk where you can talk to someone. This place in Downey has no front desk to speak to. You have to manually check yourself through the computer that they have over there. This place needs a receptionist. Nearly everyone coming in is unable to use the check in system. The phlebotomist are unable to help and look very impatient with the patients. I overheard many people who came in were fasting too. Last minute they added a person to the top of the ( walk ins) not the appointment list and moved everyone down who were waiting for 3 plus hours. To top it off there were people who attempted to check into the system but apparently did not complete the check in and had been waiting hours. They asked the health worker for help and they just blamed the computer and said they couldn't do anything. A couple stepped out to the restroom and informed a worker who was at the front. They got taken off the wait list. An elderly lady who raised her hand when called from the wait list raised her had and she got taken off. I suggest they get additional workers at the front this computer system is not working for anyone. Jim Barriga, this needs to be addressed. You can't have sick people fasting for so long not to tend to them because of a new check in system that is faulty. Also get more bilingual staff. This place is horrible. I was given an estimate of 30-60 minutes to be seen and it's been over two hours. Looks like they only have two or three personals working. Just go somewhere else. I was a walk in at 3:30pm. At 4:38pm someone came out saying they close at 5pm and they still have appointments. I was first on standby and they had 2 more appointments. There was a total of 4 standbys. They could have taken us. They stopped coming out calling people. There were enough of them in the back who could have taken us. A girl walked in 2 mins before 5pm. My appointment was at 10:40, granted it's only been 10 minutes past my appointment but many are complaining that they have not been called, there is a patient who's been waiting since 10:00....something is going on or some change has been made where they are not on time in calling them in.... I usually have not to pleasant experiences with quest, but the Downey location was by far the best. It was very clean, FAST, they got me in and out. I have deep veins and sometimes its hard to draw blood, but the staff named Haylee had a great up beat attitude and she drew my blood on the 1st try. I recommend this location read more

I have been here before and try to avoid because of the long lines, the five stars is for Juan the phlebotomist I have gone to three different places and they were having a hard time getting blood from my baby. Came here not only did Juan receive us with a smile he knew how to handle my baby with care and was great. He was great in and out in ten minutes. He was able to get all the labs we needed on the first try, will be coming back just for Juan. read more

The first phlebotomist was able to get the vein without my child flinching but she wasn't holding the needle at the base wile switching tubes so it popped out of my child's arm and they had to poke her 2 more times with no luck. Both I and another phlebotomist were holding my child's arm still yet the phlebotomist Rosa who missed the vein blamed my child for moving her arm(she didn't, two people holding my child's arm firm, come on!) . I asked how long they've been working there, this was the third poke and yet Rosa got defensive and started arguing and said she wouldn't put on a band-aid on my chid anymore, Rosa was rude and unprofessional. hire competent and kind staff, please! read more

SYSTEMIC INCOMPETENCE! I've been there twice for the same specific test. Each time they said THEY RAN OUT OF THE TEST! I had made appointments each time and my appointment card specifically said which test I was to get. I asked why they would run out when they knew what kind of test my appointment was for. They said their system doesn't tell them what kind of test my appointment is for. After the first time, after waiting 40 minutes despite my appointment, I asked if they would let me know when they have the test. They said yes, took down my phone number but never called. Two months later, I made an appointment again, waited 30 minutes, to be told they didn't have the test. I asked them to call another Quest to see if they have it, but was told they don't have phones to call each other! Their system is nuts - how hard would it be to program it so when a patient comes in for a specific test, the facility would know to have those tests there for the appointment? And to have NO PHONE SERVICE at all is crazy. I couldn't even call ahead to ask if they had the test before driving down there because THEY HAD NO PHONES! Horrible communication. I called yesterday to ask if they take walk ins for x-rays, the employee said yes; to arrive before 4pm. I did. They told me they are not taking walk ins for the day. When i called prior to make sure i dont waste time or gas. Okay, i just made an appointment for the next day at 3:35pm. I caught traffic driving there, i called the office about 4x and no one picked up. I wanted to know the tardiness courtesy since i believe i was going to be 7 mins late. No pick up. I got there and they said it was a 5 min courtesy wait not the usual 15min. Which they failed to mention when i made the appointment. I needed that x-ray done TODAY, not Monday for personal reasons for school. It would have been nice to see the phones actually busy when i walked in. But only one was being used. Ignoring calls? Have been to the Patient Service Center on Brookshire several times over the past years, and most recently on April 2021 Facility/Staff: The medical building has ample parking, and there's lots of street parking available. The facility is on the 4th floor so you'll need to take the elevator, check in and wait for several minutes/hours to be seen. The check-in staff isn't the most cordial or welcoming, but they see 1000's of people a day so bedside manners are not to be expected. 3 of 5 stars The Wait: This facility isn't the most efficient, even when you have an appointment you could wait up to 30 minutes. Prior to COVID, the waiting room would be packed to the brim with over 50 people waiting in the queue. On my most recent visit (April 2021) I made sure to come early, and with less than 15 people in front of me, my wait time was of 30 minutes. 1/5 stars Drawing Blood: I have been fortunate enough to be seen by phlebotomists that are gentle and find my vein on the first try, so I cannot say I have had a bad experience when drawing blood. 4 of 5 stars Covid protocols are in place, face masks and social distancing are required.
