I think this location recently re-opened just a couple of weeks ago. I signed up for Function and picked this lab for blood tests. With an appointment, I was received on time almost on the dot, quick process and very professional + caring. My phlebotomist Genesis was super thorough and answered all my questions + the blood draw went seamless (better than any recent ones I recall having). I recommend coming here early in the AM, have an appointment, arrive 10-15 min early for check-in and drink lots of water. Parking in the street or Sutter is right around the corner and for $5-$8 you don't have to worry about getting a ticket or missing street cleaning signs. read more

Quite the inept and unprofessional company, at least in their administration. It didn't start well with their online appointment; had to book way in advance, and then when spots & times were availalble and chosen, next screen said sorry, not available. except they were. tried to book a dozen appts, all said not available until I checked my email and got notices for 10 confirmed appointments meaning I had to go back & cancel the extra ones. lame software. next, date was finally here and fasted the night before, got down to Valencia with a "Temporary Closure Notice" for renovation week of 5-24 through 6-2 on the window in the week of my confirmed appointment. did they email to alert me? NO. just a wasted trip. Reading the other poor reviews, renovation seem to be their thing. Sign recommended next closest location: Post St, NOT the closest, then below that 15th st. Went there as a walk-in. No one to greet you except an iPad. Employee hiding in her vestibule unseen, waiting to engage with the computer. If I didn't walk back, who knows how long I'd be ignored. Got my blood drawn by two phlebotomists there and had one 5 star experience and one 1star experience. I will start with the bad one, which was completed by a young male with dark short hair who speaks very loud slow spanish. He absolutely murdered my arm to the point that people were asking me if I was in an abusive relationship or got stabbed recently. If you get assigned this guy, I would highly consider asking to switch. The girl, in contrast, was great and did a flawless job of drawing my blood. She was kind and informative and professional. My first visit here -- had been going to their San Mateo office for years and liked that one very much as well. Had an early morning appointment and everything went smoothly and quickly. My phlebotomist Genesis did a painless blood draw and was a pleasure to chat with. My only complaint is not being able to reach a person when I called the day before to ask about parking -- I only got recordings, with no parking info. I've had it with Quest Diagnostics. I made an appointment with the Quest Lab on Valencia Street on Nov 7. I received a confirmation email with a QR code moments later, as usual. Today (Nov 25) I logged in to my Quest account and discovered there is no appointment scheduled. Quest Customer Support was no help at all. I searched the Quest locations and it turns out that for some reason the Valencia Street location is closed until 12/31, but they did not bother to inform customers who'd scheduled appointments. I needed a blood test on a day I could not predict so I could not make an appointment. When I got there, the phlebotomist semi-scolded me for not making an appointment, then said she'd try to fit people in. Afterwards, while I and another walk in were the only folks in the waiting room, she was no where to be seen for about 25 minutes. Seemed like a good time to take walk ins, but she didn't. Two hours later I found out that I probably wouldn't be seen because lunch was approaching. I was fasting and getting hangry and had another appointment, so I left. Why advertise that walk ins are welcome and then treat them like crap? I don't fully blame her because, as the only employee in the whole facility, I can't imagine she feels supported. However, she could have been more forthcoming and not wasted two hours of my morning. Long story short - abused people abuse people and Quest Diagnostics, especially this location, sucks. read more

This is the WORST location ever. So bad, I am switching doctors. I had huge issues with the place on 4 occasions and the asian girl today was the all time worst. her attitude of self righteousness and power was absurd. I got there at 11:33 and found they close for lunch at 11:30? WTF? The I waited until 12:30 she opened the door for me, no one was there. She said a walk in would have to wait. I explained I had a death and am planning a funeral and would appreciate her assistance. She cleaned the trash cans for ten minutes and did other things and when someone else walked in she took them. I waited another hour, the patient in front of me said I could go. They told her that and she said I did not have an appointment and had to wait. What? Just being difficult on every angle and probably a shitty phlebotomist as everyone of them always are. I come out bruised and it is painful. read more

Even if you have an appt., prepare to wait over an hour in line before being seen. Don't expect to be in and out in 15 minutes like a proper business/blood draw center would offer. It will take 90+ minutes. The walk in service here is terrible. There was no morning appointments open for a fasting blood draw for weeks so we tried to walk in. Were told to expect a 30-60 minute wait. The phlebotomist was incredibly slow - in the 90 minutes we waited she completed only 3 draws. Took a 25 minute break and chose to do paperwork for 15 minutes between appointments rather than help the three walk in patients that had already been waiting for over an hour. I've had a lot of blood draws, but the phlebotomist I had was very rough with me. My blood draws don't usually hurt at all, but he certainly figured out a way to make it hurt a lot. Plus, I'm not supposed to pay anything in copays or deductibles for my blood draw, but they made me pay $110 anyway, despite my insurance saying otherwise. Of course insurance can't get through to make them fix it because there's only one person working there. read more

Now I will need to get this rescheduled and my cardiologist appointment rescheduled as well, since I needed this test. BUSINESS IS CLOSED. I had an appointment here which I made several weeks in advance. I was emailed a confirmation a few days before my appointment on 10/21/24. I also received a text the morning of my appointment. When I arrived the door was locked and there was some bootsy little sign saying this location is now closed. I recieved no text, no nothing and the bloodwork I needed was fairly important, around a debilitating illness. I called their customer service and they didn't seem to even know the location was closed? Very bizarre and completely unprofessional. A corporation worth $16 Billion can't figure out how to contact their customers? Also, I filed a complaint and they told me the manager of the site was going to call me and never did. Go elsewhere for bloodwork (https://www.labcorp.com/) and encourage your insurance company to terminate funding for this lousy company that doesn't care at all about their patients. The phlebotomist that works at the location on Valencia Street is FANTASTIC. I've been using Quest for probably 25 years and he really is the best they've ever had. Whether you have an appointment or not ( but PLEASE do youself a favor and make the appointment) he is kind, professional, talented and caring. Quest Corporation, if you're reading this, why have you always understaffed your locations. It's unfair to your employees and your customers. It's obvious by all the reviews that you are aware of this concern yet you do nothing. If anyone out there knows of a job opportunity for an excellent phlebotomist go talk to the guy at the Valencia Street Quest. Oh my god. Never again. Sonia is THE WORST. she pokes me in my right arm, not giving me a choice. The blood comes out slower than normal, so she wiggles it around under my skin to see if the pressure changes. Nope! I mention that last time I donated blood it came out slowly, and she comments that I should've said something earlier--like it was my fault. Dude, how am I supposed to know my blood comes out slowly?! Pokes my left arm and it comes out quicker but I leave with both arms sore. The folks that work there are great....IF...you can get in. Good luck making an appointment within a few weeks....probably not going to happen. Used to be that if you couldn't get an appointment you would do a drop in, and get called in a reasonable time 20 minutes or so. Needed to get blood draw for annual check up and tried to make an appointment for this week, a few weeks ago. They had zero appointments anywhere close, unless you want to drive to Concord or San Mateo etc. Had to get it done so went as drop in around 9:30 am, and was told I could come back at 1:30. (I was fasting as requested by doc, and so that wouldn't work). Was told I could wait but it might take and hour or two. I left and just went to St Mary's where my doctor works and got it done there. Anyway, like I say if you can get through or make an appointment that works for you the staff has been generally great...but their online system, and getting an appointment in general has gotten ridiculous. read more

I told the gal I was afraid of needles and she assured me she knew how to do it properly so it wouldn't hurt. She didn't believe me when I told her "it hurts" after putting the needle in my arm, hurting the entire time blood was drawn. I thought maybe I was being a big baby, psyching myself out, scared of needles and all. That is until I saw the bruise that took about 2 weeks to heal which hurt for awhile. She was actually very nice and professional. She did ask how it hurt but I just didn't know how to explain the pain other than saying "it just hurts". I've had some issues with this Quest. They never input my information correctly in the computer system despite me giving it to them over and over and have made errors with my lab work. Also, they spilled my pee. They left a message for me Friday five minutes before closing informing me they had important information about my lab work to discuss with me but were closing so I'd need to call them back Monday. It made me nervous so I called back immediately and was able to catch them before closing. They informed me there was an "accident" with my urine sample and I'd need to come in and give a new one. I was like, "well, what happened?" They (an air-headed and also not very friendly woman) explained, "those cups are just so slippery." read more

Sonia who seems to run this location both times I have visited, is TERRIBLE. Both times, students initially were going to perform my blood draw, which is just not that comforting. The first time, Sonia - "the veteran" - actually ended up drawing the blood and it was SO PAINFUL. I literally yelled out in pain. The 2nd time, yesterday, the student started and it was EVEN MORE PAINFUL!!! When the student called Sonia to take over, I panicked (because don't they say that the definition of insanity is believing that if you do the same thing, a different outcome will occur?) and told her that I wanted to do the blood draw at a different location. Sonia seemed offended and said, "No one has ever complained, people actually come far away to have me draw their blood." She conveniently forgot how I yelled out before in June. I literally ran over to the Castro Quest location on, thinking - maybe I'm just a baby, maybe I have tiny veins, maybe I'm extra sensitive. NOPE. Gina at the Castro location did my draw and it was like BUTTER. I literally asked, "Did you put the needle in?!!" I was so grateful, especially since I had 6 blood vials to be drawn - so blessedly pain-free. Avoid Sonia - and the poor students who are forced to train with her - like the plague!!!! read more

I wasn't very impressed with this location. It's terribly understaffed with one person doing everything: receptionist, paperwork, drawing blood. I went during the late morning and there was minimal wait because I made an appointment. She saw me right away at the appointment time as promised but given the fact that it's a one woman operation, there's seriously high probability of error. I would prefer going to a fully staff location that separates the front office duties as it's more efficient that way. Also, I was quoted an incorrect co-pay that was hundreds of dollars more than what my insurance charges and I had to pay this on a credit card. Only after submitting my claim did the charges get reversed. Not sure who's fault this was but it was the first time I ever had to prepay for services with my insurance plan. Walked in without an appointment, was seen within 5 minutes and seated for blood draw right after. Sonia took *6 tubes* of blood from me, and all the while she was friendly, caring and gentle. She made it seem like no big deal and kept me calm ~ no easy feat since I hate needles and never look when they are extracting from my arm. Went here for a standard blood test. Made an appointment before and showed up 5 minutes early. They saw me on-time, with minimal fuss. Only downside was that there was only one person working. I'd like to add to the poor reviews of Sonia at this location. I'm an ER physician, who's seen thousands of blood draws and IV insertions. I accompanied my wife for a blood draw as a walk-in patient. We had to wait around 45 minutes, since there was only one person working there. Sonia was clearly frustrated when she met my wife and was very rude when speaking with her, interrupting her when asking for information. This frustration carried over to her blood draw. My wife felt that Sonia had intentionally "jabbed" her Right antecubital fossa (the fold in the arm between forearm and bicep) not at an angle but directly perpendicular in the arm. This immediately resulted in a painful bruise / hematoma. The technique was NOT standard of care and I'm almost positive that Sonia knew better and wouldn't have treated her own family this way. If you're looking to avoid rude customer service and a painful stick resulting in a big bruise, look elsewhere! read more
