I've been in Quest probably a dozen times to look around but I've never spent any money there until recently. I'm currently preparing for a trip in late August so new hiking shoes and some specific pants were needed. I checked online and found the shoes I needed. I also knew they had a variety of pants to choose from so I figured I'd just browse while there. Since I need to try on at least one of those things, I decided to take a quest to Quest after work. As soon as I arrived at the shoe section, one of the workers asked me if I was looking for anything... I told her the name of the shoe and if they had a certain size. Boom! Got them. Tried them on. Done. It was the same with the pants. I've been updating a portion of my gear for this trip but I went ahead and decided to browse the store. While browsing the rest of the store, every section had an employee that asked if I was looking for anything. Super nice staff! I love that this store has a downstairs, upstairs, and middle floor. I do wish it was labeled a bit better. There are obvious sections but then there are other things just hanging out. It kind of encourages you to browse the store every time if you're looking for something specific. I guess that goes with the name... Quest. I'm only subtracting one star because of the prices. Some things I've found are cheaper in store than online while other things are more expensive than online. For that reason, Quest isn't the first thing that pops into my mind when I need new gear. Ultimately, I'm glad we have a shop like this in Louisville. It's handy to have if you need something specific for a trip and can't find the perfect item online. read more

This is a beautiful store with a fantastic selection of all types of goodies. That being said, they also have some of the WORST customer service I've ever experienced. So bad it's comical, actually. I had the audacity to ask a staffer if he could help me find a shirt they had in the window one day. There have been other incidents, too. Again, beautiful store with all the things, but generally sh*tty attitudes from the staff. Poor attitudes do seem to abound in Louisville, though, in all fairness. read more

My parents have lived in Louisville for 25 years and when I visit them I have always shopped at Quest spending a good amount of money (as does my dad and my sister)... including a large expensive backpack within the past year... I do not live in Louisville but am here a fair amount visiting my family... for Christmas my sister gifted me a Patagonia mid weight flannel but it did not fit... I was only here while Quest was closed during the holiday and came on Feb 15 to return the shirt. First he tried to tell me it was bought 4 months ago and I had to explain to him Dec 23 was 7 weeks ago. He then said it's a cold weather item and they aren't taking returns and also their return policy is 30 days... I guess this is what you get in a midwestern city for an outdoor store. People who don't understand outdoor people travel, go exploring, live nomadic etc and if you can't come to the store within 30 days of purchase "Go sell it online" as the guy told me - in my younger more raucous days I would've decked him right there with his snarky comment. Also when I bought my backpack they told me to bring my old one if it's in good shape for the used gear room... so I asked him about it because it was in my car... again a snarky comment "we aren't doing that right now"... THIS IS NOT AN OUTDOOR STORE! I came to buy/swap for a new stove I need and this is why people go to REI and other large retailers over mom & pop local spots... I always shop local outdoor shops around the country and South America and I've never had a return issue or had a little punk be disrespectful like that... Quest has lost my business, my dad's business, my sister's business and my nephew's business... VERY DISAPPOINTING read more

My semi-recent experience with the customer service here was wonderful. My daughter purchased a backpack to use mainly for school. One of the chest clips oddly snapped in half through no misuse, several weeks after purchase. Quest didn't have the exact item to exchange but allowed us to credit for a different backpack. They took the fall for returning the guaranteed item to the manufacturer as with Covid, repairs were taking months and they didn't want my daughter to go without a backpack for that long. I'm not a warm fuzzy person but I really appreciate their accommodating us and being thoughtful during this time when everyone seems to have lost their minds, and when the world seems off it's axis. read more

Easily the best outdoor store in Louisville. Encompassing selection of outdoor products. They even have a dedicated section to fly fishing and coffee shop. Prices are pretty competitive. Service is always great - very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Don't miss out on their sales events. My only criticism is that there is an strong bias towards Patagonia products. Don't get me wrong - I love Patagonia products, and I understand you have to sell what's popular - but larger selection of MH, OR, Arcteryx, fjallraven, etc would be nice. North face is not sold here (I was told because of the outlet mall). On the flip side, they do carry Barbour. read more

Quest is great. They have a wide range of quality outdoor gear, a nice store, and super helpful staff all over the place. The fly fishing shop has a good variety of gear, and they have a chalkboard with insider tips on the local waterways. It also happens to have a coffee shop next to said fly shop, which is helpful when I'm done getting what I need and my hubby is not! They are locally owned and give a discount to members of the local fly fishing club that we are a part of. They have fly tying classes that are completely free. Can't say enough! read more

I'm not really an outdoorswoman. My husband loves hiking, camping and all that "fun" stuff. He will get lost here for hours. They have lots of different stuff for everything you can do outside. Bit pricey, but the items are extremely well made and worth the prices. While my husband is spending too much money on "things we need" I am down at the coffee kiosk getting a chai tea latte. Hands down the best chai I've ever had in my life. They use so much chai flavoring that you can't taste the espresso and that's great! read more

Quest Outdoors is a cool shop for outdoor clothing and gear for hiking, camping, kayaking, etc. A lot of the clothing and gear is pretty expensive, but that's to be expected with these type of items. I don't think Quest is more expensive than other stores selling similar items. Most recently we went to Quest looking for gloves, and they had a great selection. We window-shopped around some while there, and there are definitely some items we'll be in the market for when warmer weather rolls back around. I definitely recommend Quest for your outdoor clothing and gear needs. read more

I really love this store! There is a coffee shop on the lower level that is worth a visit! They are trained by and use Quill coffee. I am a staunch Heine Bros. fan and I thought the latte at quest was better! They also had Plehn's donuts!!!! Really, nothing makes me a happier shopper than a coffee in my hand! The service has always been great no matter which location we shopped. We are year round hikers, backpackers, we canoe, fly fish, and sometimes just camp near our car. With so many outdoor hobbies in the family it is nice to have a local store that can help us get everyone the equipment they need. This store is always our first stop for outdoor gear. read more

I'm an avid hiker, however I shop at Quest for my everyday clothing. Brands such as Lole, Patagonia, Horny Toad and Prana are pretty much all I wear. Quest has all of these brands plus more. The prices are the same as online, so I shop here when I know I need to try something on. They also sell awesome jackets, shoes and some work out gear. I love their selection of women's bags, purses and scarfs. If you're looking for quality clothing, this is the place. Quest carries a selection of sunglasses, great brands. I purchased a pair of Smith sunglasses about a year ago and they are still going strong, I run in them and wear them day to day. The staff has always been nice and helpful, I've been shopping here for years, back when then just had the Frankfort Avenue location with a different owner. The only reason I did not give a 5 star is they do not carry much of the smaller sizes. Otherwise, great store. read more

very bad experience. I bought waterproof hiking shoes. Told the sales person i walked my dogs outdoors and needed the best fit due to foot issues. They said, Great, thane them, try them out and return if they don't work. We will gladly refund you if they are not what you were looking for". I wore them once. Outside in dry conditions for less than 210 minutes. Returned them as they did not work. They would not return them and insisted only and giving me store credit.. Seems silly when the sales person clearly knew that I would be trying them outside. Had I known their store policy that was not written down I would never have worn them outside. They also have a great fly fishing shop! David and Dick in the fly shop are awesome. David recently sent me home with one of his own ($800) fishing reels as a personal loaner while they sent my defective reel back to the manufacturer. Who else would do something like this?!?! I've been a loyal Quest customer for my whole life but my experience there a few days ago inspired me to write a review. I was returning a Christmas present and the guy who helped me out was so accommodating, it blew me away. I guess my parents had bought my present at a 20% discount because the item was on sale at the time of purchase, so the employee carried that discount over to the items I chose after receiving store credit, despite them being completely different items. He totally did not have to do that; I never would have asked for nor expected any store to do so. It was really cool of him. This is the kind of service you get there... second to none. read more

Prices are equivalent to retail prices, everything is cheaper if you purchase online. With that being said I don't mind paying extra when shopping in an actual store. It has its advantages. The reason for the poor review is this: I purchased an item with cash. I was told if my significant other did not want it I could return it with no problems. 6 days later I returned the unused item with the original receipt and was told I could not get cash back even though that was my method of payment to them. That I find unacceptable!!! Like I said I don't my paying a little more when dealing with a brick and mortar establishment but when you take away some of the reasons to do so I will just shop online and save about 30% doing so. The item I returned was around $25 so it wasn't even a substantial purchase. It is a shame because you have a really nice store with tons of quality stuff. read more

A store associate said a 20% sale would apply for the next day, July 6, so the next day I returned a previously purchased item to Amazon (I made a trip to UPS Store) and came back into Quest for the 20% sale. When I was paying for the item, the manager said the item was not included in the sale. Yet yesterday an associate said it would be included and even initialed my receipt with the information so that I'd get the 20%. The manager would not honor the sale discount. This displays poor customer relations, in my opinion. Needless to say, I will not be shopping at this local merchant any longer. read more

Quest is Louisville's outdoor recreation store that's a true gem. I basically keep their payroll going with the money I've spent over the last few years here, and for a good reason. The employees are all avid hikers, climbers, cyclists, anglers, or kayakers. They know the products they sell, and only sell the best. Yeah, it's no REI as far as selection, not far off though. Not very many cities can say their local outdoor store could even compare, Quest certainly can provide a full outfit of gear and apparel for whatever adventure you want to take next. It's well balanced on the sales floor with gear/apparel with a section for gear for your dog too, adventures are always better with a furry four-legged friend. Yes, you might be able to find a slightly better deal, (I'm calling you out Carol!) but its not about that. You get the honest opinion and assistance of a team of enthusiasts who own the same gear and can point you in the direction that will make your recreational activity and the memories that go along with them last a lifetime. They are always having an excellent sale going on (for example, I picked up an Arc'Teryx jacket for 40% off!) Be sure to sign up to receive their promotions. read more

I went to Quest the other day to look for trekking sticks to help me with my walking. I would like to highly commend Sean who helped me. I have a mobility disability and the trekking sticks were on the 2d level. Sean went out of his way to find me a place to sit on the first level and brought a wide assortment of sticks for me to choose from. He did the same when I also asked to look at small sized back packs. He was knowledgeable about the products. He also followed a basic customer service principle - "just ask - just listen." I went her for the specific purpose of looking at Chacos as Quest was having a Chacos event where there was going to be extra styles in the store and gifts with purchase of them. As it was a special event day, they were pretty busy. It seemed like they had extra staff working in the shoe section only to accommodate the extra business. I was able to get someone to find sizes for me in the pattern/style I wanted, but after the gentleman dropped off the boxes/shoes with me, I was on my own. I had not purchased or ever tried on Chacos before so I did not know how to adjust them myself or how to tell if they fit properly. He did not ask, and did not give me chance to ask about them. I was able to figure it out eventually after trial and error and was able to grab someone to get me a slightly different size that ended up working out. The cashiers were speedy and made sure the gift with purchase (free shirt) was the right size before sending me off on my day. It was an a-ok store and I would have no issue going back here again, their store would cover any of my outdoors needs and I understand it was much busier than normal, but it didn't blow me out of the water. read more

We stumbled across Quest Outdoors in Louisville today. Went to the store at the Summit and we were extremely impressed with the customer service. William took his time explaining the different features in different products. We left there satisfied with our purchase and a lot more knowledgeable about the products that were demonstrated. I would recommend this store for anyone interested in purchasing good quality equipment. Sales staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable!
