The store is BIG, bright and generally organized by sport. The store seemed to be well-stocked BUT they didn't have the size of field hockey stick that my grand-daughter needed. We were forced to order it online. It's been a while since I had to shop for kid's sports equipment but I had some sticker-shock at the prices. This isn't a bargain store of any kind. I bought a pair of HOKAs but wasn't able to use the $20 discount coupon that was provided by dicks if you sign up for their text messaging for a coupon it should be honored. As far as I'm concerned, this is probably the last pair of HOKAS I buy at Dick's because the company shouldn't offer a coupon and have a disclaimer on a completely different page and in the sub sub print. This event occurred While checking out on Tuesday evening, 4/24. The Manager was very rude because I questioned why the coupon didn't work. Last time I shop at Dicks for a long time. I shopped at Dick's Sporting Goods in Thousand Oaks, California for about seven years and was very pleased with their product lines and service. Moreover, their staff was knowledgeable and helpful Then I moved to Louisville and went to their Oxmoor location at: 7900 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40222. That's where this story goes VERY badly. My wife and I entered the store today (03.05.2024) around 4/4:30pm in search of some new workout clothes. The first stop was Under Armour. A young woman arrived to presumably assist us, but she knew very little about the product line. Moreover, when I asked her what other brands they offer, she told me she only could assist me with Under Armour. I should have know then that this was only going to get worse and not better. So, my wife and I began a search for the usual brands, Nike, Adidas, Puma etc. No one, I repeat no one stopped us or asked us if they could be of help This was remarkable due to the fact that the store was virtually empty. At that hour most people are headed home for the day. This was only made more onerous by the fact that we saw no less than 8 personnel standing around and talking among themselves and certainly not helping patrons Finally we found the Nike section and on our own selected several items to try on in the Dick's dressing room. The Dick's dressing room features a button outside which when pressed, summons a sales person to open the door. We pressed that button several times without anyone arriving to open the dressing room door. My wife finally spotted three saleswomen no more than 15 feet from us who could barely respond to my wife when she asked them to assist us. Their answer was, "Well, we never heard the bell." Once they came over they noted that the bell was dangling from a wire within the wall. They gasped and said, "Good Lord, someone should take care of that!" Really? They never once asked, "did you find everything you wanted or can we help you with this purchase?" Reluctantly they opened the door. I went in and tried on the garments my wife and I selected. I came out to show my wife how one of the items looked and the door to the dressing rooming immediately slammed shut and locked my pants, shoes, wallet, house keys and car fob inside. So, we began again to search for someone to open the door. A young man stood in close proximity, but when asked to open the door, he said... I don't have a key. He didn't say, "I don't have a key, but I'll get one. Or "I'm so sorry, I'll get someone to help you right away or can I help you find some other items?" At long last another young woman came and opened the door. She, too, did not ask how she might help us or that she was sorry for the inconvenience. I put on my pants and shoes, picked up my wallet and keys and car fob and left. When I got home I went on the Dick's website. I asked for the store manager's name and telephone number. The chat on Dick's site was beyond infuriating. Apparently, they don't know who the manager is of their store!!!! Their going to email me in 48 to 72 hours. Really? I urge you to avoid Dick's at the Oxmoor locationg. Given the dearth of buyers in the store, it would appear the word is already out about their lack of service and limited selection. Ok, ok. If you're a runner, sports or outdoors person, chances are you've been to Dick's. They are Oxmoor Mall's face facing Shelbyville Rd. Dick's carries something for everyone-- North Face, Columbia, Nike, Under Armor, Adidas, Yeti -- if it's a major sports or active-gear brand, chances are, they've got it. Want a kayak, a weight bench? Tents for camping or new lacrosse sticks? They've got it-- and the price tags that go along with it. Here's the thing though .. 1) good quality gear, though expensive, is worth it. This gear with last. I bought a pair of Timberland hiking books here 10 years ago and I still use them today! 2) they have a rewards program. If you buy a major item; you're likely to earn some money to spend. 3) though they are big and corporate, I've found that their lines move quickly and most staff are friendly and knowledgeable. 4) they have a price and fit guarantee. Story time kiddos... I got a north face vest for Christmas. Like the grinch's heart, it was 2 sizes too small. The staff directed me to the north face area, but alas, they were out of large and xl (probably due to the day after Christmas sale). I went down and asked if it could be ordered and shipped to the store. They said they'd do me one better and ship it to my house. (Wow!, I thought) He said it was simple, they'd refund to a gift card and help me order a new one online. Cool! I then realized the vest was probably on sale when it was purchased, so I worried if the gift card wouldn't cover the cost of the new vest. Andrew, the return guy, said that wasn't a problem -- they'd price match to make sure it was covered! He sent me back to Neil (I think), who helped me get it ordered. It's set to ship next week. As a bonus, I ended up with an extra $2 on the gift card (not sure how.. maybe today's dec 26 sale was an even better price than originally). I used the credit toward a new lid for my yeti coffee mug. It cost me $8 with the credit -- it's $20 on amazon (yes, I checked before I bought) I was very impressed with the return process, and thought I'd likely visit Dick's and window-shop and dream during non-sale week's anyway, I am even more likely to return knowing what great customer service they offer. From a slow walk through the store it honestly looks HORRIBLE. Like a slew of minions came through and basically trashed the place. Literally trash on the floor, clothes unfolded, gives you the ick walking through there. Selection is probably the same as any other DSG. Odd thing was that there were plenty of employees to keep the place looking decent, so not sure what's going on. read more

Really? I don't even remember checking in here! I do not like the employees. I like all the awesome stuff in the store. I have met one helpful employee here in the years that they have been in operation and I am sure he got fired for actually being HELPFUL!! Constantly disappointed by service here. The last time I was in no one seemed to want to check me out at the cash register at the entrance to the mall. There were two employees right there, one being a manager, whom just IGNORED me. I asked to be checked out and they were like ummm... sure and then walked away. What???!!! I do get that they don't need my money for a simple $30 pair of running shorts but that was rediculous! Thank goodness the Nike outlet is down the road. (Yup, got shorts there instead. Sorry Adidas!) Dick's was already a best in class retailer, their selection and merchandising alone give it a solid 4 stars. I've not ever had a bad experience running in and the loyalty program helps take the edge off the sometimes high pricing. However. After my last customer service experience at the Oxmoor location we've now bumped Dick's up to 5 stars. Because, really, isn't customer service what differentiates good from great? I went in looking for cold weather gear - supporting a deployed soldier while temperatures are dropping, it was critically important that I knew what I was buying and that it would work because I wasn't going to get a second shot at getting it right (not to mention that stuff isn't cheap, buying extras would hurt!). Gabrielle, a sales associate, quickly stepped up to the challenge. She asked me questions, explained how their gear worked and the differences between brands, took me up to skiing for specialized gear and didn't leave until I knew exactly what I needed and was comfortable with my decisions. I work for another retailer (not a competitor) and have for over a decade. I know from both sides what good customer service is - Dick's at Oxmoor has got it. If you are a sports beginner, an expert looking for new equipment, or a specialty case like myself, I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

I used to never go in this store. Then I started running & found it to be helpful for a few things. Then I started hiking/backpacking & while it's not the best place for everything... you can pick up some things cheaper than what you find at some outdoor stores. Many of the Dick's that I see are usually standalone stores, but this one in particular is connected to the mall. It makes things ideal while also allowing me to hit H&M, Gap/Banana Republic, & Macy's. This one seems to have a wider selection for every department as compared to the other Dick's Sporting Goods. I am counting off one star for the random employees in the store. Checkout employees. Always nice & fast. I've been in there more than a few times & the employees that walk around the store to help; I've felt like an inconvenience to them. If that's the case, I'd rather you not ask me if I need any help. One other note about this location. I love how they always have sale merch & new stuff right as you walk in the doors. Sometimes it seems like too much clutter, but it also invites you into the store. I always feel out of place when I walk into a store & there's too much wide open wasted space. I believe in speaking with my money. I always have. There are multitudes of businesses I don't support because they go against my morals and beliefs. I go out of my way to support businesses who do the right thing as well. Today was one of those days and judging by the amount of people in the store I'd say others do too. I've been in need of new tennis shoes. I wear mine constantly; everyday for work and whenever I workout as well. My arches have been killing me lately. So today when I decided I'd had enough, I decided to check out Dicks first. Al, the guy helping me out came across as attentive and friendly despite the fact he was being pulled in many different directions. He made good recommendations and I took his advice. I rarely go to Dick's as this store seldom leaves me satisfied. My most recent trip here was in search of a specific item, a sports bra. I was a little lost in the store trying to locate a section where it may be (a women's section) but I could not find an employee to ask for assistance. After wondering the store, I found 2 areas where they were located, but they did not have the style I needed. Furthermore, even if they did, I very rarely see any plus size or larger sized items in any type of product in the women's section (sports bras, shorts, sports apparel, swimsuits, etc). Plus size women are physically active as well and need sporting apparel just like everyone else. I don't see myself going back here unless it is a last resort. read more

Personally, I'll give it 3 stars because I'm not a big sports fan. I'm cranking it up to 4 stars because this two-level mecca is one of the biggest sporting good stores in town (maybe THE biggest). From sports with... balls... of various sizes to outdoor activities... it's all here. Throw in athletic apparel and exercise equipment and this becomes the "go to" sports place in town. read more

If Dick's is selling it for $100, you can find it online for probably $65. While some associates are great with customer service, others just stand around. Went Christmas shopping here yesterday for my two sons. Been here several times but chose to rate today. This place is pretty big store. Had a pretty good selection for this time of year. And this weekend I was able to use multiple coupons and they had additional 25% off. So why only 3 stars? Service as usual. Staffed with mostly teenage kids, some were in no hurry to assist us with our needs. Waited about 10 minutes to get into a dressing room which was empty. And the girl did not even address me ....just open and gone. No greeting or pleasantly at all. Any the girl at checkout was friendly. I know these places are busy this time of year but customer service is always key to my business. read more

First the pros: Great selection and variety. Friendly, helpful employees. I always find what I'm looking for in any department at the St Matthews location, other local locations, not so great. The store itself is impressive. But I think they really need to rethink their layout... I went in to pick up about 120 lbs of dumbbells. Now, I'm a stud-muffin of awesomeness, but I really didn't want to have to juggle all that weight walking around. So I got a cart. And I started meandering around the first floor to find the weights. You see, I mistakenly thought that the very heavy and not-easily-transported weights would be on the first floor. Nope. Up on the second floor. Where you have to walk down a creepy hallway to find the elevator. Oh, and as I was leaving, I felt the need to apologize to the poor checker girl. Clearly, asking her to ring up the weights was a huge imposition. I felt terrible. read more

I purchased a basketball hoop early in September at this location. Working with their installer SELECT EXPRESS - on inground hoop installation has been a major pain in the neck. They never showed up for Phase II of the installation, which is putting the actual hoop on the poured concrete after Phase I, I was traveling, which I had told the installer, so I left all of the parts outside in the box so he could come back in 2-3 days (as he said he would). He never called, never showed up, then I was out of town for a week, and still had not shown up when I returned, so I called the Monday I returned (10/2). They were supposed to come Tuesday between 2-6, called earlier in the day to say they were late, but then never showed at all, no one called to say when tey would. So I called Wednesday, they said they would be here Wednesday (today) in the same time frame (not sure why not first thing), didn't show up until 9:00pm and it is now 11:22 pm and they are still outside in the dark trying to get this basketball hoop up. Not at all pleased with the delivery/installation process and based on yelp reviews of Select Express (which I also did a review of), this is par for the course on Select Express delivery services. The people who work there are perfectly nice once they get here and I've been super nice to them. Different guys showed up for Phase II than for Phase I. Not sure if they can't keep people or what, but I'm guessing since their scheduling is awful and people are working until midnight, they probably have high turnover. Terribly run scheduling side of the business. Dick's should work with someone else. Ridiculous. read more

Went here to try on & buy a pair of Timberland Pro boots that were advertised for $79 online, only to find no help in the shoe department and only 1 shoe per model pair for display available. And sale price $20 more than advertised! To top it off (if that weren't enough), 4 cashiers staffing the checkout and they still had customers lined up. 2-4 other checkouts unstaffed. Going to competition across the river that has ample stock immediately available for trying & buying, along with adequate staffing. read more

I'm a big fan of the chain, and this store is the best. They have fishing, hunting, clothing, golf and services for everything. Very convenient if you need something done but aren't quite up to doing it yourself. The only downside to this store is that there is NEVER any parking. read more

I really like this store. I give it 4 of 5 because of the last time I purchased Nike running shoes there at the beginning of the past summer (May or June) . I was looking at the shoes displayed in the center of the shoe section where a shopper has to ask for the shoes on display because there are none on the store floor. The shopper has to ask ( jump up and down, shoot a flare, knock over a display, maybe cause some loud noise - I suggest any of those to get the staff to notice) when the employees ignore them. I'm not standing there looking at shoes for my amusement you know. I understand maybe the employees don't get paid on commission and maybe they get paid more to txt and use smartphones. My patience wore out while waiting to ask to be fitted and I went over to the other Nike running shoes and picked out a great pair of shoes, on sale. I ended up buying that pair, saving money in part because of the lack of customer service. I can't complain about that! This store has a great selection of sporting goods. This is the best sporting goods store in the area. Since Academy has opened I have shopped both places but I will drive the extra couple of miles to come to this location for anything that requires specific knowledge. The staff at this store are always helpful and answer every question I have. The one complaint I have is that sometimes the employees are tough to find but it is understandable in a store this size! I will never go anywhere else for a wide range and selection of sports products. read more
