Parking is completely free around the centre, though beware of rolling trolleys in high winds! There's also a good bus service and for anyone walking in, I wouldn't recommnd the walk alone but all footpaths are safe and a way from the road. The Rainbow leisure centre has a main hall, squash courts, a pool room and bar, a library, a cafe, a gym, pool and a smaller hall usually used for aerobics classes or bouncy castle parties. It's open 7 days a week and offers pretty much any sport you can ask for. You can hire it out for quite a few things, I've been to Bouncy castle parties here and I have been to an 18th here once. The library isn't always open though so look up the times before you go. The cafe is situated above the hall so any parents can look down and watch their children in various sports. Prices are moderate, but you can only start to book cours 24 hours before unless you're a member at the leisure centre. By joining you get to go to a number of places around Middlesbrough. The staff are all really polite and I only have one small annoyance about this place that because of the balcony you're often subject to people leaning over and wolfwhistling as you play badminton or sqaush.

They have a wide variety of fitness classes. It is a popular gym but my husband cancelled his membership as they shut at 8pm on a weeknight and 2pm on a weekend meaning that by the time he finished work and saw the kids he did not have time for a full workout.

Oxygym is a fantastic gym located just outside the cowpen estate on cowpen lane in Billingham…read more It is a great facility with dedicated fitness staff who are fully qualified gym and fitness instructors and are extremely helpful and friendly as well as being extremely passionate about their jobs. The gym has a large area downstairs which is full of weight machines and free weights. Upstairs is all the cardio machines such as treadmills, exercise bikes and steppers. There are also punch bags in the studio room which are free to use between fitness classes. The gym hosts several fitness classes which are fantastic they really push you and get results fast. The only downside to this gym are the fairly expensive membership prices and they don't offer a pay as you go option.

The pool is a nice area with the deep end in the middle which I think is much better designed. The small pool is nice and warm! There is a large viewing area with lots of vending machines including chocolate and crisps. The perfect things to put those calories back on! There is also a jacuzzi and sauna although I have never been in them I can't comment but they are expensive. There is also a gym and classes available.
