XL QT drink. Hits the spot each time!
    Nydia H.

I don't typically consider gas stations a "destination" spot, but QuikTrip is an exception. Since QT opened up its doors in San Antonio, I've been making weekly pilgrimages with my husband or sister or anyone who will go with me. But I'm not there for the gas. Oh, no. I specifically go for the drinks. If you love iced tea, QT has the hookup. They offer multiple flavors on tap (my personal favorite is the unsweet pineapple papaya green tea, but everything I've sampled has been good). Same goes for coffee and frozen drinks--plenty of options to satisfy a range of palates. I mean, QT takes libations so seriously that they have two drink stations--one on either end of the store: one side focuses on hot drinks while the other focuses on cold drinks. This is what I imagine heaven to be like. Anyway, I've been to this location twice, and each time the employees have been attentive and friendly. The premises is spotless, which is a huge plus for me! And their snack game is on point. If you're looking to diversify your gas station options, you should definitely consider QT. This place is more than gas. It's family. Strike that. It's drinks.

This is the best convenience store in the whole area because of the employee attitude and service. The management is great. When you come in you are greeted and you actually feel good shopping here.

Cashiers are always friendly. This is my closest neighborhood convenient store & I'm glad they carry GT's raw kombucha synergy drinks. And most convenient, I typically don't carry my wallet around with me when I am walking my neighborhood, but I always have my iPhone, and they accept Apple Pay... Flipping bonus man. I love it.I never know when I'll be walking in this area, and I'll want to grab a kombucha & buy it with my iPhone. I could buy any snack I would need I suppose!

Stopped in for a quick check to see what things were like here. I had never been to a QuikTrip before, but had seen them around. Stepping in I was impressed by the variety of food and drink items available. The drink selections are incredible!! Variety of iced teas, coffees, frozen drinks. These alone could get me to come in. They have a good variety of hot items as well. I must come back to experiment.

So glad my QuickTrip has my fave Monster Hydro flavor and plenty of it. As long as they carry it, I'll be back over and over. Bonus- any roller grill item and Hydro combo $1.00 off for a while!

For Texas road trips, there's Buc-ee's, but inside the city, we're all looking for a little slice of that sort of awesome--great snacks, clean bathrooms, options galore. This is where QuikTrip comes in. I'd heard rumors about this place for months and was blown away by the sheer size of the QT building I'd passed by during crazy rush hour traffic in Leon Valley. Of course, I hadn't bothered to stop because the Leon Valley destination goals are always Chacho's, Arby's, or Peter Piper Pizza--not some large gas station. When the new one started going up on Culebra and Westover Hills, I decided I'd check this place out as soon as it opened, and I eventually did. Heck! We had dinner there one night, what with all the junk food we bought. ;) Sure, QT offers the same kind of gas-station fare that every other corner-store pit stop does, but what QT does best is drinks. One side wall is devoted to your soft drinks and fruit punches. You get not one, but TWO, different ice varieties. They cover your cubed and crushed needs. THAT'S what I call SERVICE! The adjacent wall has a large assortment of slushee flavors--some soda flavors: Dr Pepper and Big Red in the bunch--as well as all your classic (and some not so classic) fruit flavors! If I could marry an inanimate object, a beverage station would be it. And QT doesn't do just one beverage station. The wall across from the sodas is devoted to coffee drinks (cold AND hot), horchata, and hot chocolate, served up steaming or iced! The drink walls alone make this place INVALUABLE. But then you have a multitude of snacks AND a food counter in the back that serves ice cream cones for 50 freaking cents. THAT'S LIKE LIVING IN THE 1940s! Maybe it makes for an odd, hodgepodge dinner, but three people ate for less than 20 bucks, and we drank to the point that our eyeballs were swimming in carbonated liquid. That's just a good day. Service is phenomenal. They're cleaning things that already look clean. That's how on top of things this ENTIRE corner store of employees of the month are. And a clean store with friendly employees is such a great sign of respect for the community. QT is a gift, and you're welcome.

Neither the Yelp map or Google maps look they are currently correctly depicting the location of the business on the map. The current Yelp address for this business is incorrect. The correct address (according to the register receipt is): 801 East Riverwalk San Antonio, TX 78205 I've submitted a correction to Yelp HQ. Anyhoo (yes I used the phrase "Anyhoo") onto the review. The place sells beer, wine, soda, bottled water, snacks, cigars, and all sorts of tourist trinkets. We picked up some cold beer and cigars here and went and sat down on the Riverwalk one evening, smoked our cigars, drank our beer, and laughed, talked, and argued for several hours. The shop owner will offer you the use of either his bullet punch or guillotine to prep the end of the cigar (if you ask) before you leave. You can get paper matches to take with you to light your cigar (he had no wooden matches). You are also allowed to drink your alcoholic beverages right along the Riverwalk. Or so the shop owner told me as he was trying to get me to buy some beer to go with my cigar. I did buy some, he opened it for me - I walked out, walked up to this lady police officer standing a doorway down - and asked if it was legal for me to carry an open alcoholic beverage. She laughed and told me "yes" - just don't venture up onto the street with it. Cool! So - a great little shop to pick up cold alcoholic beverages, snacks, and cigars!

Obviously there's no actual pharmacy here since it's on the river level with no access to street parking. It's not even your standard CVS. There are also post cards and $20 phone chargers, one of which I needed since I accidentally left mine at the hotel. Would I come here to buy anything otherwise? Probably not, but it was certainly worth checking out. And the cashier was also very nice. She did ask if I have a phone number with CVS (I haven't for several years now. I wonder if they ever actually close those years old inactive accounts). She also allowed me to simply use the reusable bag from the Alamo we already had with us to save the trouble. Oh and an entire aisle dedicated to Texas and San Antonio. It was a fun time. Also, the shelves could probably stand to be wiped down more. Lots of dust. And what's this? No kitty cats to greet me? Now I'm sad. :( I'd come back just to see them, and they're good for keeping rodents away. So for the cat haters out there, bear in mind they're smarter than many give them credit for as they hunt mice and birds to keep the river walk free of infestations.

Did you know that you can legally drink alcohol out in the open along the Riverwalk? You can't have an open container while walking around at street level, but on the river, it's all good! One option would be to get a drink at the local bars, which tends to be expensive, and they're not generally happy with you running off with their glassware. Therefore, going to Lucky's is always a good option! You can grab a quart or a tallboy here, get it in the paper bag if you insist on drinking on street level, but you don't need it for the Riverwalk! Drink up, buddy! This place seems to sell a lot of crap! They have a variety of San Antonio souvenirs- t-shirts, hats, and such. I didn't see anything I needed. When I went, there were a couple of homeless folks in here. One was buying a fake rose packaged in a glass tube, and steel wool. Hmmm... The beer was cold, but they didn't have the sizes that I'd prefer for drinking on the Riverwalk. Buying a six pack rarely makes sense when you can keep buying individual beers, since the six-pack will get warm in the Texas heat quickly. There are better options around here for what you wanna get from here- there's a Walgreens down the street, and a CVS down the river. There's zero parking for this place.

There's another one close by that's even closer to the river that you can only get in by way of the Riverwalk. This CVS only has a streetside entrance. I don't know what the world record is for the smallest CVS pharmacy, but this is definitely one of the smaller ones out there, so you can imagine the lack of variety in their merchandise. It's mostly snacks inside, but you'll find a few other non-food items in the rear of the shop. However, it's not very well-maintained. I came in three times during my stay in San Antonio. One just to browse around, and two to purchase a snack. On my first trip, the store was empty, and I saw two employees working at the front. On my second trip, the store had a handful of customers, but I didn't recognize an employee until he went up to the front minutes later to service a customer. I was looking around for a small snack, but I was kind of disappointed in what they had. Not that I'm comparing this to the Buc-ee's in New Braunfels, but there are a handful of snacks I would remember at other CVS locations that I couldn't find here. So the small snack I was planning to get had to be a little larger than I expected, which meant spending a little more. I got a Cheetos popcorn, which was the last one they had in stock the evening I went. That was the only item I recall that I hadn't seen before at any CVS. There might have been others, but the Cheetos popcorn was the most noticeable to me. However, upon checkout, I noticed some milk cartons lying on a table, not inside a refrigerator. I touched them, and they weren't even cold at all! Such a small store, but nobody realized the milk that's going to go bad real soon or has gone bad already? And speaking of checkout, if not for the two self-checkout stands at the front of the store, you might be waiting a while for an employee to ring you up, especially if they are assisting other customers. I made another visit on my last week here, and I was the only customer in the store at the time. There were two employees, but neither greeted me or offered to help. I wanted to get an ice cream sandwich, but the price tags were missing on a lot of them! I had to use the coupon scanner to find out the price of them. So inefficient and annoying to have to run back and forth just to find out the prices. I used the self-checkout again because I didn't think the employees were in a mood to ring me up. My suspicion was confirmed when one of them simply glanced at me without a word as I walked out the door with zero intention to make a return visit. If you're looking to make a (hopefully) quick stop to pick up a snack, and you happen to be in the immediate vicinity, this CVS will at least be there to answer your call. Otherwise, I would recommend going to some other CVS, like the other one with the Riverwalk entrance.

Here is a general store across the street from a site with more than 2,500 photos, almost 1,000 reviews (and an inexplicably low 4-star composite rating) and has a paltry EIGHT reviews and 4 photos (which I'm going to double today). Maybe I just love general stores with the amalgam of touristy stuff, toiletries you forgot to bring, and temptations of the sweet and salty kind. They sum it up best with their motto, "Travel necessities. Hometown setting." First, yes, as you would expect, there is PLENTY of Alamo-related stuff. Neither cheap nor chintzy, there are plenty of Alamo t-shirts, cups, magnets, mugs souvenirs, and other ephemera at prices (at least based on my experience) a bit less expensive than at other establishments. An, if you want to show some Texas pride, there's plenty to buy to remind your friends where you're from and what state not to mess with. And yes, it has the feel with the old-time pharmacy catch-alls, from medicines and ointments to phone chargers and travel bags. The convenience of an airport gift shop without the high prices and drab formulaicness. Five and Dime ain't for the cynic. You'll find the kind of cowboy hats you'd find on a sorority girl at a Saturday night party. You'll find the kind of sombreros you have lying around awaiting the moment when your friend passes out drunk and you can place it on his head and Sharpie a Zapata-style mustache on his upper lip. Yes, there's plenty of humor in the Five and Dime collection! In the end, Five and Dime is a great store for both local and tourist alike. Their hometown philosophy can also be found at their other locations: On the San Antonio Riverwalk, on the Landing in Branson, in Old Town San Diego, Market Street in Charleston, Old Town in St. Augustine (FL), Cannery Row in Monterey (CA), River Street in Savannah (GA), and the Historic Plaza in Santa Fe.
