This weekend is the 50th anniversary of the quilt show so the town was bustling with many campers…read moreand visitors. I walked through here with my MIL who enjoys this type activity. There was a good selection of fabric prints. But what caught my eye was the hangings of quilts that I guess you can buy the patterns of and I thought that was a great way to see what they look like. I took one picture of a very detailed one that wasn't for sale but beautiful. Prices seem a little high for me but it may be good for here.

There are a good section of notions and they are thoughtfully arranged so you can easily find what you are looking for. There is a well organized corner of the store set aside for sale fabrics . I found the staff to be available when I needed them and helpful. I appreciate the coffee and water in the entry area.

My mother recently visited The Quilt Basket after moving to Bend following the loss of her husband…read moreof 60 years. She left behind her home of 50 years and her entire circle of friends, and as a lifelong quilter, she was hoping to find connection and community through quilting again. While in the store, she noticed a group of women quilting together and, with a lot of courage, approached them to ask if it might be possible to join or learn more about the group. Unfortunately, she was met with a very cold and dismissive response (mean girls style) and told it was a closed group. The interaction left her feeling deeply hurt and rejected--to the point that she left in tears. Shame on you ladies!! I completely understand that some groups may be private or full, but kindness and compassion cost nothing. A simple, gentle explanation or even a small word of encouragement would have made all the difference, especially given her situation. I'm sharing this not out of anger, but in hopes that others--especially those who are new, vulnerable, or looking for connection--are treated with more warmth and humanity. Quilting is such a beautiful, community-centered craft, and I hope this shop reflects that spirit more fully in the future.

Imagine going to your local Hobby Lobby to grab a dozen dog toys for a Humane Society event in the…read moremorning only to get to the register and be told Apple Pay is not accepted. Eh, ok. However, when you ask to have the items held for you so you could return first thing in the morning, the cashier says "No." thinking a manager would surely understand ,I let her know it was for our local Humane Society event in the morning and that I would be there first thing at opening. The response, "No." "so it's 7:50 PM and the store closes at 8 PM and you won't hold the items in the bag till morning? " No." ... Well, I know Hobby lobby doesn't like certain types of people, but I guess we can add the local animals in need to the list. Nevertheless, I went down to TJ Maxx & doubled the budget. If they only knew my locally owned multimillion dollar company in Bend uses Hobby lobby for all of their marketing events throughout the year and have spent thousands upon thousands ... Not anymore.

The town I live in is a few miles away from Oregon Embroidery, so I checked the hometown business first. They were about 6 1/2 times (not a typo) more expensive! Cindy called to check in with me on what colors I wanted and was very nice. Her recommendations were spot on. To save a drive to pickup, I gave them a postage-paid envelope and they gladly sent coats back to me, perfectly embroidered, in a couple of days. Save time, save money, and be happy with their workmanship.
