Window is able to be partially opened but it was so windy that it felt as if it would be ripped off their hinges entirely! We were in the 7th floor, facing the street, you can still hear the street traffic. That might be a consideration when getting a room. Toilet with bidet, the bathtub is that odd European style of a high tub, no grab bar other than the far end, short tub door that makes the floor inevitably wet. Do be careful getting in and out as it is slippery! Our stay included buffet dinner: pasta penne with sparse sauce , steamed veggies had some raw pieces of eggplant which is inedible, grilled turkey and baked pork loin were also quite tough and dry. The mixed greens salad ended up being the better choice. Water table service is either carbonated or flat, thankfully I was allowed to take a bottle to my room! Otherwise water or soda is from the mini bar. Our tour group also had bottles of wine being served and that's not a great idea with a 2:30 am departure time to get on the 6:15 flight out of Lisbon. We decided to stay here because I had a free night to use, but also they are dog friendly. We wool a separate flight from koa the wonder dog but this was where we would rendezvous. They not only welcomed us and Koa but 6 huge bags , 4 suitcases and a large dog crate! Free breakfast, also dog friendly, and everyone loved to say high to koa especially the staff. What a great welcome to our new country!

Upon sitting near the flat screen TV the waiter came with menus. At 2:30 the full menu was not offered. Only the section called Snacks was. We had a Club sandwich and the Veggie burger. The Club was filled with meat, cheeses, tomato and lettuce with mayo. We could have shared it. Fried chips came with it. The veggie burger came on a large muffin with lettuce and tomato. It did not fall apart. The quinoa burger held together. Crispy steak fries came with it. Perfect! Both sandwiches were good and filling. To drink we got a bottle of water and two coffees, Delta brand. Beers and wines were offered. Service was friendly. With food and other charges the bill came to 41 EUROS. Check it out.

Pros and cons with luxury hotels- there's no loud and gaudy signs to alert itself; just a small subtle golden sign outside. Hahaha! The hotel blends so well with the area around it that it was honestly hard to find the hotel. We went around the square like 3 times; even the locals and the workers working around the area weren't sure where it was despite showing them the address. Nonetheless, I truly appreciate it when designers respect the surrounding areas and try to maintain the original parts and history of the place; choosing to inconspicuously blend instead of obnoxiously standing out. Walking into this beautiful hotel is like walking into a museum. I love the old things they choose to display and showcase. I commend the designers who try to mantain the beauty of old buildings and incorporate to meld history instead of choosing to modernize things. Our stay here was literally and figuratively on a whole 'nother level. Our room was in one of their mezzanine rooms- so it felt like we were in like a mini townhouse since it was a 2 level room. One is greeted with a small foyer and then stairs that lead to the bathroom and then the topmost landing to the sleeping area. We loved how it felt like we weren't in a hotel. Upon the arrival to our bedroom, we were greeted with a nice amuse-bouche of Lisbon's quintessential dessert, pastel de nata and a souvenir of the iconic azulejos. The attention to detail is apparent in every corner. While the impeccable accommodations were stellar, there was some thing that made our stay inhospitable. Unfortunately, the people in the front desk left quite an unpalatable impression on us. Most would consider it wise to put a friendlier face at the front end of such an establishment. A welcoming face and an affable and understanding demeanor to weary and confused travelers would be a wonderful warm welcome!! However, this was not the case. The front desk people need some refresher course on their pleasantries and welcoming skills. Good thing this was not the first hotel we stayed upon arriving to the country!! We immediately wished that we had gone back to The Lumiares Hotel & Spa in Barrio Alto. Despite that place being busy and at the center of Barrio Alto, the staff there truly were hospitable and engaging; night and day difference compared to this one. I understand that the hotel could be busy but there's a difference with attentive staff on busy hours and just plain aloof. There were 2 gentleman and a lady who were in their desks. I observed all 3 of them sitting coldly in there while they were ent about their routine. There was another elderly couple standing with us when we were waiting for our turn to get checked in, and the guy on the other desk just sat there while his other colleagues were going about their work. Let's give him the benefit of a doubt... He could be busy or maybe not able to check any of us in, but one could argue that it's still not hard to provide some friendly support or maybe asked the other guests if there was anything that he could help with while we stand there. I mean offer the poor lady with a cane a chair perhaps while her poor husband was trying to coral their luggage's, the guy could've called a bellhop to help them. Regardless, the lady who checked us in was business as usual; all cold and quite unwelcoming that she couldn't even be bothered to try and work up a mere smile so she could appear acutely affable. After all, you are in the hospitality business and the face of the establishment being situated in the front. Thankfully, interacting with the front desk was a short one. Despite all that, I hate to highlight that debacle because the rest of the staff were wonderful! They were welcoming and friendly. Whenever we had our breakfasts, we were always pleasantly greeted. The servers and the kitchen staff were attentive. Despite being busy, they took their time to answer and explain some of our questions and sincerely asked us about our stay. Our server was delightful & genuinely curious about our trip and was kind to give us ideas and suggestions. We heard her have the same pleasant interactions with the other guests and impressively in other languages. Overall, besides our front desk fiasco, we still enjoyed our stay here. Fortunately, our interactions with the rest of the staff thankfully overshadowed the unpalatable experience we had with the front. Shout out to the security, our bellhop and the servers at breakfast.

Bad: The gym is small and doesn't offer a lot of variety. The food is so good in Portugal that exercise is a necessity (even with all the hills in Lisbon). The gym is also not open 24/7 as advertised. The door is closed and locked at night; and clients must go to the front desk to get someone to unlock the gym instead of being able to use their room key, which is the standard in most hotels. Good: Diogo and Daniela: What an AMAZING Team!!!! A concierge is a dedicated staff member who helps guests with various services. Their primary role is to save people time and make life easier by handling tasks like making reservations, arranging travel, securing event tickets, and providing personalized recommendations. Diogo and Daniela perform that duty better than anyone I have experienced in any country. The present a master class-level of service. I knew Lisbon would be an amazing experience; but Diogo and Daniela sealed the deal in stellar fashion!

We got in at 5 am and we had booked the previous night so that when we got there we could check in and sleep a little before getting out day started. We came from miami on a red eye flight so we were a little delirious once we arrived. I called the hotel as I boarded the flight and gave them a heads up that we were going to be arriving late which was great because we didn't run the risk of them canceling the room. Once we arrived we had a lot of luggage because we are hosting an event but I was surprised when the no one helped so one of the guys had to go get the cart and we had to lug all the luggage inside. Once inside the same bellman was the guy who checked us in. The check was easy and fast and we were eager to rest up in our room. Once I got my room key I made my way to the 5th floor. I was a little thrown off by the hallway because it was all black and the numbers were on the floor. Once I found my room I walked in and took a shower and got in my bed. I didn't account for all the construction happening. It was hard to ignore as I was trying to get some sleep but I tried to make the best of it. Checkout process was easy and they were able to hold our luggage until we were ready to go to the port.

I'd consider the resort a depiction of dystopian surrealism. First we get to the resort and the lobby is under construction. There's barely anyone staying at the resort which already made it feel like a scene straight out of The Shining. We were first given a mediocre room but was upgraded - we didn't complain but they must've known how absolutely destructive the construction noise was. Awful. Why they didn't put us in the nicer room from the get is beyond me, since such a small portion of the resort was filled. We heard zero construction after this move while in the room. The room itself is amazing. Roomy, lovely bathroom and a spacious outdoor patio looking over the pool area. There were two Michelin star restaurants here but we only visited Midori. It was a great experience but eerie in that, again, it felt like we were in some dream where we were one of the last people on earth. Strange. We had most of our fun outside in sintra and cascais. The resort needs a serious facelift - the entrance from the outside and all the common areas really look so aged out. I'm sure it's nice during the summer but I still wouldn't pick here to come back to unless there's been some heavy face lifting done.

This is the first 1-star Yelp review of mine in more than one hundred I've written. I see that the large majority of glowing reviews are from a number of years ago. Whatever its condition then, this ain't the same resort those people were staying at. We attended a wedding in the town of Sintra this past Summer. In choosing a hotel, my wife opted for this Ritz-Carlton property that was viewed as the highest end hotel in the "area." I put area in quotes because in reality, it was a 15-20 minute drive into and out of the center of Sintra, and it could take at least a half hour if you hit daytime tourist bus traffic. After our first day of commuting during a 4-night stay, we immediately regretted our decision. But it would get worse. While the vista is nice, I don't think I'd call it stunning. Perhaps we've been to too many other great places in various settings over the years. For us, the grounds and views fell short of the "wow" factor. Check-in was prompt, and the front desk people were nice, particularly one woman who made a couple of restaurant recommendations, including calling on our behalf. That was probably the high point of the stay. Once in our room, it presented more like a Marriott than a Ritz. Dated (circa 2005), with many imperfections. Beyond that, however, as we explored the hotel, we were taken aback by how much the resort was in disrepair. For starters, our own balcony had four vertical railings that had rotted out, leaving sharp dangerous edges (especially risky if you had children staying with you). Outside stairs leading to a common seating area had countless stained and broken tiles, leaving you to question the safety of using the stairs at all. The handle to a main door leading outside near the spa was completely gone, forcing you to put your finger into a sharp opening to pull that door open to reenter. Plus, windows in a lounge area near the front entrance had been compromised, leaving the panes cloudy. I could go on, but I stopped documenting this disaster once it was clear that management was content to leave things in deteriorating condition. I mentioned the breakfast buffet. It was okay - certainly fell short of the better European buffets we've experienced at resorts of this supposed caliber. We had trouble one morning getting someone to bring us a simple pot of coffee and cream as we watched them deliver to other tables. Took three requests. Beyond that, the main dining room is far from relaxing. This is a destination resort for many families, and you know what that's like in the morning. We discovered the "escape" room on our second morning and ate there during the rest of our stay. In sum, the Penta Longa Resort was a big disappointment. It's not cheap, and when a place is carrying the Ritz-Carlton brand, that has historically come with a broadly understood high standard of luxury. My wife will be the first to say that Marriott has blurred the lines between R-C properties and the rest of its brands, and not for the better. My suggestion to those planning to visit Sintra is to stay in the town itself. There are one or two properties that should deliver at a higher level than this place, and it will be much more convenient for you as well.

The hotel is brand new, they just opened in January so everything is in perfect working condition and very clean. The free breakfast buffet is one of the best I've had in a long time. There are so many choices and it's all presented so nicely in the dining area. The room is very clean, small but comfortable. There is a mini fridge, and plenty of closet space. All rooms also have a very nice big balcony with table and chairs. Perfect for sitting out and admiring the views of the ocean which all rooms have, unless you are on the lowest floors. The heat and AC works wonderfully (it's a brand new building!) and it is quick to adjust the temperature in your room (oddly enough that's a rarity in Europe so it was very much appreciated). The water pressure in the shower is also good. Another thing that is sometimes hard to find. The location in Cascais is nice. It is right across the street from the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. There are a few other hotels and condos in the area, but it is not in the main part of town. It is about a 20 minute walk from town. There are bike rental stations across the street, where you can rent a bike for around $4 for the day. My one and only complaint would be the wifi system, it worked just fine, but they give you a new user name and password each day. We got one set that was good for the whole stay but another that expired after 1 day. So you have to go downstairs and ask for a new piece of paper with a new login. I don't understand the point of this- highly doubt anyone is going to try to steal wifi in this location, why not just make it easy for the guests? A great stay, highly recommend this place!!

I stayed here recently for three nights and the staff were very helpful and responsive. The rooms were comfortable and I had one with a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean. You can walk along the sea and there are some fabulous restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. Hotel staff were very nice and the process for checkin and staff at the restaurant and bar were also very attentive and responsive. Breakfast was quite ok and they had enough options for food. I would happily stay here again. It's not that expensive and is close enough to the center of Cascais.
