For the uninitiated, Thai massage is like the opposite end of the spectrum from Swedish. It always makes me wonder about my masochism. The price is very affordable, about 40 Euros for an hour's massage. If Thai is not your thing they offer other types such as zen, deep tissue and foot reflexology too. The room is spacious, clean, and not at all dingy. There was a little communication problem but once they figured out what massage we wanted, the therapy began. This is authentic massage, exactly like the ones I got in Thailand, with all the signatue poses and pulls, that while a bit painful, was also relaxing. After the masseuse asked me to turn face up and started massage on her upper body, she put a mask on. he also washed her hands before massaging my face. Such little details makes me feel good about the level of hygiene.

It took me 5 minutes to get back to the hotel room. It took my wife under 10 minutes to get ready and within another 5 minutes we were inside 'Thai Sensation' choosing our massages. I was given the traditional kit to wear and we both went into the one scented room for our treatments - it was low lit, piped music played and the sound of gently running water permeated the room. There was no messing about and we got full time. My wife opted for a deep tissue massage for 60 minutes and another treatment of 20 minutes. She ended up with some painful bruising on her upper back. I was only interested in the original Thai massage as I'm a big fan. So over 60 minutes I was stood on, pummelled, compressed, pressured, and generally pulled, stretched and rocked by hands, fists, fingers, elbows and feet by a diminutive Thai lady with obvious Herculean strength - she has the perfect job for a misandrist. It was glorious. At the end even my pains and aches had pains and aches. Night one was €105 for two for 80 minutes and 60 minutes treatments respectively. It was so good we returned the next night for the same again in my case, but my wife opted for a more gentle alternative not to exacerbate the upper back bruises too much. Original Thai Massage 2 was even better than the one the night before. Two 60 minute treatments was €80. At the end we hobbled out happy achy and within 5 minutes we were seated in what turned out to be one of the best Indian restaurants we've dined in for a very long time: the Bollywood Lounge. Our only regret was that it was our last night in Lisbon. Some days are diamond.
