I was pleasantly surprised! What a cool spot! Located not far from Prudential Center.. came here for Wednesday night karaoke. Found street parking with no meter which was great. Smaller spot, but you don't feel like you're on top of each other. It reminded me of a Village kinda spot.. very dark interior... but a whole vibe. Bathrooms were really clean.. nice bar in the back of the space. The only reason I will give it 4 is because even though the drinks were reasonably priced, the bartender wasn't making the best drinks... you could barely tell that there was any alcohol in them.. I had to order an extra shot just to make it taste good. I think she needed some help because she seemed sorta flustered in taking care of everyone. I would definitely return!! i don't think they actually serve alcohol here. i went with a group of people on November 1st, was my first time there. i personally got around 5-6 drinks within the first 45 minutes and didn't taste of feel the alcohol at all. at least three other people in my group had the same complaints. additionally the security seemed quite relaxed. i saw a few people with bags walked in and did not get searched. i also had a bag but didnt get searched. i don't know if they just decide on bag size to search or not but either way, it didn't feel that safe. aside from this, the service was nice and the bartenders were doing their best to serve everyone as fast as they could. i like how everything was themed and such. i was not a fan of the music playing in any of the rooms but thats subjective so i cant take off points for that. i didn't order food so i can't comment on that. in conclusion though, i wont be returning for the first two points listed above. i cant say it was the same for everyone but it felt like this for myself and three others so i wanted to share my thoughts read more

Loved this place. I used to go to places like this on LA, like over 12 years ago. I felt sooo in my element. Theres a main room and two smaller rooms downstairs. Each room has a bar which is nice. There was a cover fee but the drinks weren't crazy expensive so i thought it was fine. One room had mixed 80s , another had industrial goth type music, main room had mix of 80s 90s alternative. First visit to this establishment and I was pleasantly surprised. The bouncer at the door was friendly and helpful about where to park on a Sunday night. Kervyn Mark & T Wise brought excellent deep house music vibes, the crowd was mature and friendly. The drinks were weak but moderately priced. I did not try the food. I was skeptical about the neighborhood or any part of Newark for that matter but when it comes to HOUSE music and the House Family, there is an older, mature and friendly energy that is always found at a house music event. I am undoubtedly inclined to visit this establishment again for a HOUSE MUSIC event. read more

I've been coming to this club for about 20 years off and on. It's amazing that some of the same DJs are still there! I get why they are still there because they stay up to date with new music, as well as spinning classics. Management is amazing and super friendly. They've diversified their nights a lot, so that you can hear goth, ebm, industrial, 80's, 90's, emo ,techno, synth wave, and more. Bouncers are mad cool and make you feel safe. There's a reason this place has stayed open for so long and outlived some clubs in NYC. read more

I've been a regular at this place since 1998. We all love our club. This isn't one of those places where you aren't required to dress up to go. This is a neighborhood staple where you can show up in your clothes from work if you wanna get trashed while being serenaded by The Cure or Hocico. If you want to wear your platform boots, dye your hair black or grab some army camos you're more than welcome to drop in of course. I just want to stress there is no pressure either way. Friday nights are "tamer"(Emo hipster crap ) than Saturdays (EBM/Industrial). The drinks are cheap, but they do raise prices from time to time to try to keep up with the rest of the clubs. Crowded and if you are good at avoidiong the unnecessary drama at a Goth/Industrial club you should do fine here. They built a stupid hockey arena a couple of blocks away so come early for parking free on the street charge for a couple of the arena lots. BTW, the PATH train RUNS ALL NIGHT so please ignore that reviewer. The area isn't bad considering its in Newark. I've drunkenly stumbled around all night many blocks away and have received no problem and I'm an attractive girl (I'd like to think). In short you want a place to go where you don't want to hear spanish music or hip hop or country. This is your place. read more

QXT is iconic for dancing for 80s, goth, and all the dark genres. it's a true gem to be in Newark. the indoors have everything you could ask for in a bar/club: projected videos, indoors feels like a bat cave, neon funness, art and beautiful decor and top dis for the genre. If I could give zero stars I would... QXT's claims to be the "cheers of nightclubs." Sorry, but that doesn't seem like something to be proud of. It's a goth/ alternative night club... not a neighborhood bar. The place used to be good... there used to be a nice variety of events and the music that the DJs played used to be great. Now, they are trying to make money by becoming a sort of "concert venue." They have random/ crappy bands play that nobody has ever heard of/ nor cares about. They also have really, really lame "theme" nights that are kind of pathetic. Sorry, but after having spent many a Saturday night at the alternative nightclubs in and throughout the Camden Market in London, QXT's is a joke. I don't know what happened... it used to be so good. In a region where clubs come and go with trends, and even worldwide big names like Pacha can't hold on for the long term, QXTs has been open for almost as long as I've been alive! I started coming here about 15 or so years ago, and still like to return whenever I can. They have 3 distinct rooms all playing a different style of music, which all differ from night to night. As an "alternative" scene club, expect industrial/EBM/terror, 80s, as well as some punk and 90s nights as well. A great mix that always has something for everyone. They have 3 bars as well, and drink specials if you arrive early (it's worth it!). All this is great, but the thing that really makes this club is all the people. Everyone is so nice here, not just the bartenders and owners, but everyone in the scene is welcoming and fun. Ever since the long time bartender, now owner, took over it's only been getting better! Definitely worth a visit, plus cheap admission leaves more money for drinks, haha. read more

Haven't been there in probably 5 years at this point, but I'd gone there nearly every weekend through my 20's and early 30's. Once the pandemic clears up and I go back to worrying about being asked for money from a stranger seeking chicken - I will most likely return. This is the ultimate dive goth / industrial / new wave club. I've been to plenty, and none are quite like it. Great security, great drinks, low entree fee even on event nights. There's nothing like walking out of that place at 2:30am, hitting a diner, grabbing a bakers dozen bagels as they leave the oven at G & A's on the way home, crawling into my bed at 5am and sleeping until dinner time. I'm sure my recovery time won't be as quick as it was 20 years ago, but I've never had a bad time at this place. read more

I came in here initially not sure what to think. This was my first "club" experience, and though I used to wear black everything, collars, leashes and way too much eye liner, I've been far removed from the goth scene since high school. Ladies get in for free before 11, so you bet your ass I was inside at 10:30. Guys are $10 but you can print out a coupon to save $2. Keep in mind, you cannot show them your phone. You must print out the coupon. There were only about 10 people on the dance floor at first, but that doubled around midnight. Dancing here is totally different from your typical (or what I assume to be typical) club scene. Everyone basically dances by themselves or in circles of people. No one is going to judge you here because everyone is doing something a little different. It's also dark and the laser lights are distracting. I don't typically go all out, but before I knew it, I was right in the middle of the action. I came here with 5 friends and everyone had a great time. One gross thing was the pool table. I played a round and noticed that there are these huge stains that look like blood. I wondered later if they did that on purpose to set the scene. I hope not. The music was loud. Very very loud. So don't be an idiot and stand next to the speakers for an hour unless you want to continue yelling over the buzz in your ears for hours after you leave. I didn't drink but my friends were happy with their beverages which were reasonably priced around $7. If you've never visited a goth club and you have an interest, you should try this place out. read more

The spot itself is really cool, different enviroments and musics, I could totally spend some weekends chilling in the basement bar, hearing some 80's rock, seeing people dancing with no rules while watching some movie on the big screen on the wall. But when I went it was pretty empty, what kinda made the place look sad. P.s.: it's a pretty alternative place, with different people, where you can find young, old, gothic, posh, gangsta, all styles mixed up. I like this place alot. Located in downtown Newark, QXT is very easily acessible by NJ Transit Bus, train, PATH, and Light Rail. If you're coming from NYC, you can get home on the PATH all night, but DO expect to wait in Penn Station for at least 15-45 min, The music is awesome, lots of industrial, 80s on Fridays, gothy tecnho and heavy synth. Drinks are moderately priced, and tasty, however the cups could be bigger. Bar area is usually a mob scene, but the bartenders are always friendly and attentive. Overall, good place to check out if you want to get dressed up and get wild for the evening. If you aren't driving, I would recommend going in a group since walking anywhere at 3 AM probably isn't the best idea, but NWK can get rowdy so just be careful. read more

It's a sad state of affairs when New Yorkers have to go all the way to Jersey to hear good new wave and post-punk in a club bigger than a shoebox. Qxt's has a decent layout, with one large dance floor at ground level and two small rooms downstairs. I've only been on Saturday nights, when the music is goth/80's/industrial/EBM/electroclash. A lot of it is the typical set list you'd expect to hear for each genre, but it's still better than the dark, claustrophobic, airless atmosphere of the Pyramid or similar NYC venues. Also, drinks are cheap and strong (we loved our Kevin McDonald lookalike bartender). One crappy thing happened here this past weekend. We were out with a friend who has a pretty adventurous style of dress. That night he wore a corset and hotpants. At one point during the night, a bouncer came over and told him he needed to not only put on a shirt, but zip it up all the way. First of all, our friend did not have his ass hanging out or anything. Second of all, this is the sort of club where alternative people should be able to not worry about having to censor their appearance. It was completely ridiculous for the ignorant bouncer to approach him like that, and we nearly left the club and demanded our money back because of the incident. After talking to the door people, the matter was cleared up and our friend was able to forgo the shirt. In fact, our friend got compliments on his look all night, and later on, all of us got a free round of shots from one of the other patrons because he loved our friend's look so much. Take that, ignorant bouncer dude. Overall, I always have a good time here, because I love a lot of the music played and there's decent enough room to dance. It's also fun to take a mini-road trip to go clubbing. Sure, the space is kind of run down and the crowd is kind of dull, but if you bring your cool crowd (including designated driver) you can have a fun night out. read more

I've been to this place three times now. The last time being this past weekend for their "Halloween in July" event. I have to admit, I really like the place and I'm not typically a club person. They have comfortable seating, nice decor, and plenty of space so that you don't feel all squished in (likely why having a venue in New Jersey instead of New York is a good idea). Firstly it should be noted that there's a parking lot one block over that lets you park for $6. I find this is a good reasonable price to have your car safely on a lot and close by. Secondly if you're a girl then rejoice because you get in for free between 10 and 11PM (unless there's a special event). The drinks are cheap too. I usually get amaretto sours there for $7. One night they charged $3 for the drinks, though not really sure why.. I ain't complaining. The music varies. Some night they played too much 80s rock, other nights too much hardcore, but overall they mix it up so you can find something you like. Occasionally they open the basement which has two more rooms with different music. The people are all very friendly and nice. It's also fun to people watch there. The atmosphere is very open and you don't get judged by how you dress like some clubs I've heard of (this is a goth club after all). Some people dress casual, others dress it up. The only reason they lost a star is because of the Halloween in July costume contest. It really did seem kinda set up with how the guy who won did not put any effort into his costume and seemed to be friends with the staff. That was a jerk-ish thing to do, and I'm surprised they let that happen like that for all to see to blatant favoritism. read more

I guess this club is OK, but nothing great. Upstairs the DJs play EBM, 80s, and some crowd pleasers like Franz Ferdinand and She Wants Revenge. Downstairs you can stomp to hard EBM, powernoise and industrial in one room, and sway to gothic tunes in the other. To Q's credit, they have reasonably priced drinks. They also have a free parking lot. However, the place is downright dirty. Ladies, DON'T sit down in the bathrooms! The neighborhood it's in is shady, too. The last two times I went, the po-po were breaking up fights at the bar next door. This place is fine for having a couple of drinks, but I can't bring myself to stay long. *Edit 12/9/07* Parking in the lot is no longer free! It costs $10. read more

I miss Batcave and The Bank... Having gotten THAT off my chest, I finally found my way to this place. I got to dance. And for that I am happy. Used to go dancing every weekend. No matter where in the country(or out)I was. I only partook of the main floor, not being sure of how to access the basement if it was even open. I've been coming here since the Loop closed and I love it. Love the 80's and 90's throwback nights. Drinks are cheap early (before 11) , get your drink on then dance,dance dance!!! I love places that make me feel like I've entered a time warp. This is one of those places. I came for the Pet Shop Boys tribute night and had a great time with my friend and her boyfriend. There weren't a lot of people present, but there were some rather entertaining folks there. All that's missing are a few coffins in the basement and some people smoking cloves outside the front door, and I'm transported to the mid-1980s where everyone rocked a feathered fringe and a lot of hairspray, goths included. I gave this place a 3 because I'm not sure what to think of it. For one, it's in Newark. Sure Newark has a shitty rep but how much trouble can you get into when there's a Taylor Swift concert going on around the corner? And I'd still rather go to Jersey than the City. Two, if you stay there long enough, you feel like you're in an armpit. Brought me back to when I used to go to local band concerts. Speaking of things that no longer exist, maybe I'm too old school but I don't really understand the techno-y, industrial aspect in the goth genre. I can easily dance to Korn or Kidney Theives or SOMETHING with lyrics or good beat but the music was kinda shitty. I liked one song they played and they managed to play Garbage and NIN and then went back to crap again. Then there was the piss ass drunk chick trying to hit on any girl she could find. Pretty much every girl within a foot of her including myself and my friend. The alcohol was good and fairly priced and I liked that there's plenty of seating as there is dance space. The bathroom on the main floor was clean but no so much the bottom level. And the people who work there seem nice and drunk girl aside, the people there are nice for the most part. The other reason they lost a star is that their halloween in july contest was a joke. There were people on stage who put effort into their costumes but the contest was judged by how many friends people had to clap for them. The guy wearing a bra won the contest. WTF? They practically gave him the prize and seemed to just go through the contestants for sheer principle. Would I go back? Maybe. I might. QXTs has pretty much been the icon of the NJ alt scene for two decades now. They host a variety of nights from your typical alt music (Goth, Industrial, EBM, synthpop ), as well as other regular events such as nights for 80s mixes, 80s New Wave, Synthwave, open mic, karaoke, techno, etc. In addition, QXTs also acts as a venue for many other different acts (recent ones that come to mind are metal shows, hip hop, local bands, etc). The staff is great, their prices are competitive, their events are varied, and the regular crowd is very friendly and welcoming. So if you are looking for something to do keep an eye on their calendar and you are sure to find something that appeals to you. read more

Updated below* The place is alright. A good place to go get your dance on. As long as the "promoter" for the club isn't groping guys inappropriately. I returned here after a long stretch of not going since the last time I was here the "promoter" started touching me inappropriately. I went to dance and have fun, not be harassed by some emotionally undeveloped employee. Whats more disturbing is that, as soon as I returned to the place, said promoter then approaches me while I'm ordering my first drink, and jokes about how I pissed her off when SHE put her unwanted hands on Me.I had to actually leave the bar area to stop being harassed by this....person. Just ask Nicole, the bartender. She saw both encounters. I still got my dance on, but only because I was determined. At least she didn't pursue me on the dance floor. Avoid the scarecrow looking old bartender/"promoter" if you are a guy and you should be alright. Update: 5/22/15 : From 2 stars to 1. Just went back to give this place it's third shot. They had a new age thing that looked cool on their promo stuff online. When I got to the door to pay, the bald guy with horn rimmed glasses at the front asked my name. When I told him my name he asked that i step outside with him for a second. Weird. Once outside he then asked if I had written this original yelp review (above). When I responded that I had written the review he said that it would 'be best if you weren't in here anymore' because a review like mine 'is really bad for business'. In effect telling me I couldn't come in. Because of a yelp review. Seriously? And me writing the review is the problem, not the employees behavior. To be clear, both of my previous visits were uneventful other than the unwanted advances and comments toward me. After distancing myself at the beginning of my second and most recent visit (before tonight), I danced all night, kept to myself and stayed till closing. Nothing about my behavior would warrant being denied entry. So instead of trying to get to the bottom of the complaints in my review, instead of asking about my previous experience, he decided to deny me entry to the venue. Interesting customer service approach. After trying to explain my side of the story (you know, the one I described above originally) for several minutes, (because at the time i still wanted to go in, have a good time and dance) being told the employee acted that way 'because she was probably drunk' (yes, he said that), and then being told that it would be 'appreciated' if i changed my original yelp review, and me not accepting that, the bald headed guy lost his cool and began with the classic menacing behavior of a bouncer. He charged up to me, got in my face without making contact, saying 'you better leave' etc. I have no interest in bully tactics. Hell, I thought this community was against just such things. So I left. Total vibe crusher. Bummer. As someone who works for a living in the entertainment field, it's unbelievable to me that some venues decide to treat complaints from their customers and problems with employees this way.
