Used to be good. Then they closed and reopened their CRV center and now it's the same deal as most other places. Before they used to put recyclables on the conveyor belt so the exact amount was visible and reflected in the return via receipt. Now they use one of crappy industrial weights, write down the alleged amount on a piece of paper and you get what you get. I took in an amount that had been accumulating for almost a year. Would have amounted to 250-300 dollars via their prior process. Got 185 bucks. Don't waste your time. This place is no longer any better than the rest and they'll try to chisel you. read more

First time here. Writing the process here for other first timers. I called a couple of times to ask questions before heading over and was happy to talk to a person. They are easy to reach, someone answered the phone right away and answered my questions. When you get there, go left to the garage door that says Hollister recycling. I was looking for RJR sign so I was a bit unsure of where to go until someone directed me. Park in front of the open garage door. Someone helped me take out the cans, bottles, plastic from my car. Then he put them into this machine. Then he asked for my ID and then handed me a receipt that indicates the weight of each type and amount. Then he directed me toward the "cashier" which is an atm machine behind a metal door. Scan your receipt then the machine will dispense the cash. The guy who worked there was nice enough to stay with me to help me because I may not otherwise have known what do at that machine. He also said that sometimes it doesn't dispense the right amount so he was ready with cash to give me the difference. Here is a photo of my receipt for info on $$$. Relatively quick and efficient process. Can't comment on the amount paid because I just wouldn't know what is fair or unfair. read more

Drove out to RJR from Gilroy because our local recycler won't take crushed aluminum cans anymore. Read the reviews before I drove out. Went during a weekday and only one car was there. Backed in and met the young kid working there. Nicest guy ever (sorry don't remember your name.) Struck up a conversation with him while he was feeding the machine with cans. After he was done, he handed me a receipt and asked me to walk over to the booth in the middle of the parking lot to get my money. He offered to come help me if I couldn't figure out how to get my money out of the machine, but it wasn't too hard. Went back and handed him a nice tip. He refused at first but I insisted. Customer service is everything. If you treat people right you deserve compensation. I will be coming back on the regular to RJR. Much appreciated for the service. And if you go out there, be generous to this young kid. He deserves it. read more

Our family had been going to the one on East St., One Stop next to Aqua Azul, for decades with no problems. Then several months ago we went there, and what usually would bring us at least $250-300 got us only $90; I did feel cheated and put it up on this platform. Then about 2 weeks ago we went there again, thinking it was a fluke, or maybe the prices are down; nope, we got a lot less again! This time, I kept & read my receipt when we got home, THEY WERE CHEATING US: he listed on the 'Tare' several more receptacles than we had on the scale, and at 8# each which is a lot! With 6 barrels of aluminum cans, 5 plastic & 1 of glass (all full to the brim), we only got $63.00 for this??!! Today we went to RJR, and a nice young man even did MOST of the sorting & work for us - unbelievable, he worked so hard and with such a friendly smile!! We had only 2 barrels of aluminum, 1 plastic (none were even close to full) & just a few glass bottles - yet we got $20!!!! I figure that's 3-4 times more for our recyclables! Well of course, from now on we are ONLY using RJR for our recycling; yeah it's a drive of about 2-3 miles out of town, but it is so WORTH IT!! Oh, plus it's VERY VERY CLEAN, with places to wash and clean up too - unlike the other one!
