As an infant, moving infant, toddler, & 2 year old there had been regular activities & lesson plans covering science, basic math, sensory tables, ABCs, etc. There were quarterly conferences with the parents/guardians. About a year ago, multiple long time teachers left for other jobs & after this, the classrooms became overcrowded, unqualified people were hired, and lesson plans along with conferences ceased to exist. Our son came home multiple times angry, sad, & with bite marks. Despite asking for more information about what we could do to improve his life there or what seemed to be causing his big emotions, nothing changed & we were just told "this is normal behavior". The director promised to look into the lack of lesson plans & all they did was document the morning story time. The rest of the day was unstructured. Our son didn't want to go there anymore despite his friendships with his very good friends because there was no consistency with who was in charge in his room. There were different teachers & aides every day. When we decided to leave, we told him it was because he is a big kid now & big kids go to new schools. However, one of his teachers at Tutor Time told him he was leaving to go to a school "to teach him how to behave" 2 months ago, this location was under a DHS investigation for a restricted disciplinary act against a child. I also witnessed & reported a new teacher screaming at 4 month old infants. Despite this, she was kept there for a few more weeks before she left. Our rate was increased multiple times per year all in the name of being able to hire better people, however, untrained people were consistently hired instead. The bright spots that Tutor Time has going for them are both Miss Brittany's, Miss Laurel, Miss Grace, and Miss Alison. They are wonderful human beings

Orono Montessori School (OMS) is a gem of a daycare & preschool. We moved here from the east coast…read morein 2007 and OMS came highly recommended as setting the bar high for infant-toddler-preschool care (6 months-6 years). I remember our lengthy tour and conversation with the owners and knew immediately that indeed this was the place for our firstborn. He thrived under the gentle and guiding teachers and support staff and went from a shy, reticent 18 month old to a confident 5 year old. Fast forward to 2014 when our second son began at OMS (6.5 year age gap), a sensitive but social whirlwind, a very different personality than his older brother. He too, has grown by leaps and bounds under the committed eye of OMS' certified teachers and their assistants and always asks "is it a school day?". At 4 years old now, my husband and I are continually amazed at his growing academic abilities and sense of self, all components fostered under the independent child-focus of the Montessori method he is routinely exposed to. All of the staff at OMS are responsive, accommodating, loving/caring and deeply dedicated to their students. We have experienced very little turnover in staff during our nearly 10 years there. The teachers move around rooms when there are immediate needs and some support teachers have moved out of the Twin Cities area but compared to other teacher/student ratios and inconsistent staffing at nearby daycares/preschools that our friends/neighbors have used, we are very lucky to have a consistent presence at OMS. We live in St. Louis Park and OMS is located opposite our work destinations, but it is worth every mile driven to know that our sons were/are in the very best of hands. Kudos to OMS for running an exceptional preschool. P.S. The huge fenced-in play field and playground you won't find anywhere else in the metro area. Let the kids run and breath in the fresh air. I am a single mom and putting a center tuition into my budget is EXTREMELY stressful. However, as of Jan 2022 - the people there :) - director and staff - seem so authentic and sincere ... not only about my son (who needs a little extra help) but about working with me to try and make every day, and the budget work. As KC is a huge corporation, I didn't really expect this level of empathy/care - or for them to give a $h*t for my little situation. So far, I am very happy and will try to hustle the best I can so my son can learn and grow with people, I believe, have his best interest in mind.

However, when I called them on this last Monday, they were unable to get him in, and weren't sure if they were staffed enough to get him in any time soon, and couldn't give me any answers as to when they would be able to. Meanwhile, this is two months after I have fully registered him, and he has been there for a few weeks and started to get comfortable. So there I was, without childcare, and frantic. I called KinderCare late that Monday afternoon, after reading about them online, I spoke with Kayla on the phone and she was extremely helpful, put me at ease about everything, and was able to get my son in the next day and for the rest of the week with no problems, in their Discovery Preschool area. They made it very easy to get him in on such short notice, and I felt extremely comfortable with my son going there. He enjoyed his time there, and the staff kept me very informed and welcomed to all of the goings-on while my son was in their care. I would recommend their drop-in care to anyone I know who is in need of childcare at a short notice. They made my entire week better. And I will now be sending my son there on a more regular basis.

Now, she speaks in full sentences (4 months later), uses scissors like a champ, holds markers (etc) "almost" properly, and sings us songs with actions all the time. Her main teacher is master's prepared and truly pushes these kids to the best of their abilities. She loves every teacher there and always comes home talking about her friends! The other main reason I love this daycare is that they're reliable. They're open as early and as late as we've needed them for our work schedules, and are extremely flexible when I need to add on days. At the in home daycare we had to deal with the daycare lady's kids being sick, or poor hours, or them leaving on vacation frequently. It was not reliable enough and I found myself having to call in sick at my job when my daughter nor I were sick. The directors are wonderful and respond to calls and emails quickly as well. Seriously, no complaints from this mama!

I would drop off my child in the morning with no issues. Picking up, however, is where we had problems. Nearly every day there was an issue with misplaced belongings or some unexplained physical ailment. At the end of the day, my son's hoodie or coat ended up in another child's cubby. Parents shouldn't have to search other students' cubbies to locate their child's items despite labeling each of his items. After the first snowfall, I brought in his snowpants and boots. 3 days later, again at pick-up time, I was looking for his boots to ensure that they were still there. His boots were not in his cubby so I asked one of the teachers for help. The teacher responded that every student's items are put back in their corresponding cubbies. I responded that this was untrue because the boots clearly were not where they were supposed to be. The teacher said that they would locate the boots the next day. To my frustration, they could not locate my son's missing boots so I had to purchase new boots. There were several days where our son came home with a diaper rash due to not cleaning him well enough after bowel movements. There were also days where he developed a rash on his face which the teachers couldn't explain. The final straw was arriving to pick up my son to find that a bright, red ring had developed around his entire mouth. Again I asked the teachers what had happened and again they could not offer an explanation. When a parent leaves their child in an established daycare center, one would expect that the child is receiving proper attention and care. Clearly, this was not happening. I can't speak for all KinderCare locations but our experience at the Hanson Blvd, Coon Rapids location certainly was not pleasant. My wife and I now refer to this location as KinderDontCare.
