Singing a little Aretha Franklin R-E-S-P-E-C-T is for sure a day brightener, plus its always funny to blare oldies with your windows down as you pull up to a car playing rap with lots of bass. So much entertainment value too. The talk aspect of the show . . .well, let's just say I'm not quite their target market. But for them to dust off the oldies so this girl can belt out some (seriously) old skool goods earns four stars.

Did Steve Harvey Predict Occupy Wall Street?…read more In 2005, I had the pleasure of ending a 3-year contract with the King of Comedy, Steve Harvey. It was a pleasure to serve a man that was more profound than the persona he portrayed. My daily routine two weeks each month began at 2:30 a.m. with a drive to my small café in Bedford, Texas, to gather the linens, china, glassware, portable cooking devices and any other special requests by Mr. Harvey to complete his daily breakfast and lunch meals. In the first six months of my employment with Steve Harvey, I would listen to his morning inspirations speeches as I prepared everything from egg white omelets and T-Bone steaks, to hearty oatmeal, fish and grits. He never could remember my name and I never looked at him as a celebrity. To me, he was just Steve, the man that loved his wife, cherished his children and longed for his mother. One morning, Steve started his show by giving advice on finance. I listened carefully because of my constant need to make ends meet as a small business owner. He told his audience that if they wanted a long-term relationship with a bank to find a small branch in the middle of nowhere or a small credit union, because they treat you better. He said they have personalized service and sometimes you would probably see the bank president. He told a story of how he put his money in a small suburban bank outside Dallas Texas. I never forgot his advice. It's now 2011, and people are occupying Wall Street, banks are corrupt, the economy is going down the tubes and Americans are frustrated. In 2007, when Steve left Texas in pursuit of bigger and better things, I began federal contracting. To my surprise, after only 90 days in the process, I received my first government contract. To no avail, I went from bank to bank looking to secure funding. Although I passed the initial interviews and analysis, and had a government contract in hand, my request was still denied. Reluctantly, I headed to Washington, DC. to satisfy the terms of my contract and remain in good standing with the federal government. To survive, I borrowed money from friends and family and sold items on eBay. I refused to allow the poor lending practices of big banks to deter my entrepreneurial dreams. Recently I decided to leave Chase, Capital One and Citi because they acted poorly in overseeing my financial future. I thought an average balance of $25K and a half-million in sales would at least warrant me a dedicated banking officer. I was wrong. Today, I bank with Cornerstone Credit Union in Lancaster Texas. They were ecstatic that a defense contractor was moving to their bank. My decision to move to a smaller bank was based solely upon the advice that Steve Harvey gave his listeners years ago--patron small banks because the big banks are not willing to work with businesses who make 70 percent of the jobs in the US. Thank you Steve Harvey for showing me how to grow my business. It's comforting to know that despite your wealth, you support small businesses! Until next time Chow-baby! Commercial free and VERY laid back. I don't live in Atlanta, but from time to time I will stream online. Also my brother DJs so I occasionally listen when he is on the air. When I heard that Georgia Public Broadcasting was taking over, I was upset. For years I've been supporting this place. I had it locked in my radio whenever I come home to visit. I am kind of in denial right now, however I still have hope that someday we will get the coolest radio station in the world, back!

It has been a while since I have been forced to listen to this poor excuse for a radio station…read more During my early years working at various retail establishments around Atlanta, I could not escape the death grip that Star 94 had on my managers radio station preference, mainly because their crappy music was blasted on every speaker in the store. I would have random thoughts pop into my head like: "If I have to hear that stupid Bare Naked Ladies song one more time, I am going to resign. Then I will run around the store singing 'Its been one week since I looked at you', while making sure I knock every item of clothing off of its hanger, unfold all of the shirts and throw them on the floor." What is with this radio stations typical music lineup anyways? The normal play-list is usually compiled with songs that were hits on other radio station months or years earlier. It is almost like the DJs on Star 94 are in another dimension that is set a year behind the normal time in our dimension. Either that, or Star 94 just prides itself on being the radio station who is always stuck with the musical leftovers.

We had an amazing time touring Star 94 and going on air with our scout group. The station was fun…read moreand accommodating with our large rambunctious crew. We got to see how everything looks and works and record our own private scout choice version of some songs in a workroom. The kids all loved being live on air and answering funny questions. They were impressed with how guests can call in and how the weather copter reports during our morning rush hour report time slot. It took a lot of persistence and patience on our part to make it happen but we're so glad we got in and made some great memories with the kids. I think the thing we really got a kick out of was hearing the scout stories of some of our favorite DJs
